Made celeriac dauphinoise with dinner this evening. So, so tasty. 11g of carb in the whole oven dish (which made about 3 or 4 decent servings). A potato dauphinoise with a comparable amount of potato would have more like 85g of carbohydrates. Had with spinach stuffed mushrooms and butter roasted cauliflower. Yum yum yum Grin

CiderwithBuda · 07/09/2017 21:54

Aw how gorgeous is Alfie?! And massive congratulations to your daughter. That is a fantastic achievement. I'd be tipsy too C4!

BIWI - I'll take the gurglies as a good sign then! Had that horrid taste in my mouth so I am assuming it's all good. I took magnesium yesterday and today hoping to ward off any constipation.

Food today was as mentioned upthread. Yummy chicken curry with cauliflower rice. Pre dinner 'gin' and tonic with the non alcoholic gin that StuntNun recommended. And one glass of red wine to celebrate DS being back at school for first time since November. After dinner I had ginger tea, water (lots), a Babybel and about six trips to the loo!

Mimosa1 · 07/09/2017 22:12

Oooh Leni, recipe please!

Huge congrats, c4!

marioncole the Dukan diet also does porridge in the morning so may be one for your mother to look into?

Had a KIT day at work with Wagamama ordered for everyone so whole I resisted the noodles, not as LCHF as is have liked. Really good to see my colleagues and catch up on what's been going on. I'm lucky that I get on really well with them.
As usual not enough water - aaargh.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 07/09/2017 23:15

Grah are your gallons of black coffee decaf? I believe caffeine can stall weight loss.

ragz134 · 07/09/2017 23:34

clear eyes nooooo! Really? Is 6 cups a day too many? That's probably my average. Doesn't decaf taste funny?

Congratulation on clever children, essays, babies, dress fittings and victories both on the scale and off. For some reason have been as bad tempered as sin today. Internet kept flaking out during client calls, my feet were freezing, it hasn't stopped raining and out of nowhere, I developed a notion for a toasted bagel with cream cheese and bacon. Have no idea where that idea came from as I've been pretty much craving-free but I ended up bizarrely sorry for myself about never eating bagels or dunkin donuts again. Given I've never eaten the latter in my life anyway, not sure why it was bothering me so much! Anyway, didn't eat any of those things but I would very much like another scale victory to buck me up. See you all tomorrow, when hopefully I won't be feeling a total bitch!

Congrats to your DD and DS and DIL C4, new beginnings all round Flowers

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 08/09/2017 06:42

I've never heard of caffeine impeding weight loss? I thought it was suppose to temporarily increase your metabolism / fat burning ability?

Lenl · 08/09/2017 07:17

Really easy mimosa though it's a bit made up so may not be a true dauphinoise.

I peeled and quartered a celeriac, then cut slices as thinly as I could, probably 5mm or so. That gave me about 500g of celeriac.

Then heated up cream in a pan - I used 250ml of leftover single cream plus another 200ml of double cream because that's what I had, however I think single or double cream would work. I've made dauphinoise with all double cream in the past.

To the cream I added a fuckton several gloves of crushed garlic to taste, salt and pepper and a sprinkling of nutmeg. Then I added the celeriac to this for no particular length of time, just until the cream started bubbling. Then I poured it into an oven dish and sort of spread it around til it was quite even. Then I thought some cheese would be nice so grated cheddar over it. Stuck it in the oven on gas mark 6 for about an hour. If it looks dry but the celeriac still has too much bite then cover in foil.

It made quite a lot though we ended up eating almost all of it between two of us. However it was the main part of our meal. I reckon it'd serve 4 as a side with a steak or something like that. Smile

Grimbles · 08/09/2017 07:18

I weighed myself this morning -13.9 so thats 7lbs off since Sunday!

dances

Lenl · 08/09/2017 07:18

Gloves of garlic Grin obviously that's cloves!

Lenl · 08/09/2017 07:19

Wow Grimbles that's amazing!

Grimbles · 08/09/2017 07:22

Thanks lenl. I have been quite strict with myself this week so I am not sure I can sustain it, but it's good to see that it does work.

I think I will ease off a bit over the next week to see what happens.

CiderwithBuda · 08/09/2017 07:32

Great result Grimbles!

I weighed and am down two pounds since Monday. And that is with wine on three nights. Not a lot but I did have some. Am def bunged up though. Gurgly bloated stomach all night. Actually thought someone was moving around the house at one stage but it was my stomach! Will drink more water today.

Lenl - that sounds lovely. Will put that on menu for Sunday. We are having a Nigel Slater chicken dish which is essentially fried chicken and we usually have with mashed potatoes but the celeriac dauphinois sounds perfect.

MOIST · 08/09/2017 08:12

I'm away on holiday. Lots of lovely LCHF Greek food on its way. I'll minimise the big cold glasses of mythos.
I've been total crap for a few weeks, having booze weekends, birthday cake, chips at the seaside etc so I'm looking forward to just getting back on it properly.

ASDismynormality · 08/09/2017 08:22

I drink a lot of coffee, doesn't seem to cause me any weightloss problems.

Morning. I'm 5.5lbs down in my first week. Properly chuffed about it.

Going back to read now.

SayrraT · 08/09/2017 09:57

Well done grimbles

Mmm, celeriac dauphinouise is one of my favourite things lenl

Giraffeski · 08/09/2017 10:20

@summersazz that looks good, thanks. Do you think I could replace the yoghurt/cream entirely with dairy free yoghurt? DH is allergic to milk so I have to keep my cream and butter to myself when cooking for us both!
I went with this one last night which was really yummy, used bone in chicken thighs. Added a couple of tablespoons of coconut cream to tone it down as I went a bit overboard with the chilli.

wotabastard · 08/09/2017 10:28

Arggh! I feel like I've missed so much just in the past day or so! Struggling to catch up now. Grin

Flowers Congratulations Flowers to everyone with babies, uni, exam results etc and weightloss/NSV's of note!

I have a serious case of celeriac envy what with all this flaunting of fries and dauphinoise! adds to shopping list *

I made fathead pizza the other night too and ate the whole thing. Fucking hell it's filling!Shock

I've also inadvertently not being hitting my water targets the past two days which has led me to feeling not right, bit of bloating and sluggishness. I put this right yesterday so back on track now. I had an early dinner yesterday with the kids about 4.30pm and didn't think about food til this morning. This would be unheard of in my previous lchf life. It makes me feel great!

Had a delicious plate of buttery, steamed broccoli and two scrambled eggs with cheese for breakfast.

I wish you all a good day!

@MOIST enjoy the Greek life! We need pics/updates so I can live vicariously through your holiday. Envy Did the balls of wool make it? Grin

ClearEyesFullHearts · 08/09/2017 12:07

Caffeine: I don't know. I've avoided it for nearly two decades now and know it makes a difference for me generally in terms of being calmer, sleeping better, and certainly for my heart issues.

I first read about the caffeine weight stall thing in The Idiot Proof Diet book (India Knight & Neris Thomas I think). It said caffeine can stall weight loss, not that it always does. Not like, say, consuming 5,000 calories a day and getting zero exercise does stall weight loss. Grin

I don't have the science (I never do yet still go steaming ahead anyway Blush) but
this article touches a bit on both sides of the debate.

lisbapalea · 08/09/2017 12:22

Hi all,

Wow - some amazing weightlosses this morning! Well done grimbles and justcontemplating!

I am now wising I had weighed myself on Monday morning and not waited until I was two days into doing the right thing! While it would probably have been a much nastier number it would make the weigh in next wednesday feel more satisfying!

I am feeling much better today than my weird queasy self yesterday.

B - a slice of emmenthal, two slices of salami and half an avocado
L - probably another M&S salad / chicken lunch
D - supposed to be having a thai takeaway with Dh which I know is not ideal as it's often so sweet. BUt I thought a stir fry with either cashew nuts or broccoli would be ok? Any advice?

TimeIhadaNameChange · 08/09/2017 12:25

Well I continued to feel sorry for myself last night and jumped off the woe wagon - did myself a fryup of bacon, mushrooms and potato scones, and followed it with cake and cream. I should have avoided the cake, but it finished it up and I decided that as I wanted it I was going to have it. Don't worry, I'm back on the wagon today, though no idea what I'm going to have for lunch as I couldn't be bothered doing anything early this morning, so I'll see what the cafe has.

My arm is worse than yesterday - the infection has spread into my hand and up my forearm. The doctor did say that would happen. And DP, who usually avoids asking about illnesses, actually checked it this morning for lymph infection. But it's not that bad. Just itchy, burny and stretched. I nicked an ice-pack from work this morning and and hope will work better during the night than wet cloths, which was the only way I could calm it down enough to sleep, but meant the bed was wringing this morning.

C4 - Have a lovely time with the grandkids this afternoon. Say hi to Alfie from us all!
