Does anyone here have a weight problem due to hormone imbalance? Or toxicity? Is that even a thing?

I'm 4 months in with this WoE. I'm still at exactly the same weight. It went down 7lb initially, then back up. It fluctuates a little but hasn't changed really.

Foodwise, I'm eating:
B - nothing, not hungry
L - Green salad, with mushrooms fried in butter, lots of mayo
D - belly pork, cabbage, leeks, mushrooms - all cooked in butter
snacks are pork scratchings

My portions have more than halved since starting and have been roughly the same for at least the last 2 months. I've cut out dairy since BIWI suggested it might be stopping my weight loss.

I have the odd carby twatdom moment but they are very few and far between and its a testament to this WoE that i haven't strayed much at all. I enjoy the food, don't feel hungry, cut out sugar, don't crave sweet stuff (In fact, when I do stray, I don't enjoy the sweet stuff at all)

FFS, I'm even having hypnotherapy to help with drinking the water! This I do struggle with but even when I hit 3 litres I haven't lost any weight.

However, my huge belly is very squidgy! When it eventually decides to break free everyone will need to stand on higher ground!

And I haven't lost any inches either. I'm still in the same jeans and tops.

I'm trying really hard to stay positive but I'm struggling. I go away on holiday in 5 weeks and I actually thought about not going. I can't bear to clothes shop and I don't look at myself in the mirror (well, not in the eyes, not anymore. I look at my teeth when I clean them and my hair when I comb it and that's it)

Fuck, I'm crying now

ClearEyesFullHearts · 02/09/2017 18:07

mumto3 Flowers

Bless you, you sound so sad and down on yourself. It's heartbreaking to read.

I'm no expert but I do know @BIWI has talked about a very small percentage for whom LCHF doesn't work. If you initially lost 7 lbs it sounds like it did work for you and I'm just not equipped to explain what's been happening.

Just wanted to say that you're doing a great job sticking with things and your positivity is admirable and inspiring.

Go on holiday. You don't need new clothes to relax and laugh. Flowers

wombattoo · 02/09/2017 19:11

mumto3 that is so demoralising. Well done on even sticking it out so long. {thanks]
Could it be that you are not eating enough? Do you have much to lose? Or maybe, as Clear has said, that you are one of the few that it doesn't work for.
Maybe post your meals for a few more days so we can spot anything amiss.

wombattoo · 02/09/2017 19:12

Doh! Thanks for mum

YoLoZammo · 02/09/2017 19:19

mumto3boys that sounds very demoralizing. Can you give more detail like a pic of your plate to see portion size and your weight and height. Someone with expertise will come along and advise.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 02/09/2017 19:20

mumto3 have you ever had your thyroid checked?

mumto3boysHE · 02/09/2017 19:23

I'm eating the same every day (more or less) I like it. And I have at least 5 stone to lose, so it's not like I'm almost at goal.

I lost 4 stone in 6 months last year at SW but then stayed the same for the next 6 months and spent every day hungry. I'm not hungry on this Woe.

I've cut out the usual suspects as suggested, yoghurt, cheese (oh, I miss cheese). No change. I've reduced my portions. No change.

ilovecherries · 02/09/2017 20:14

Food today

Breakfast : fasting, but I did have a coffee with cream about 11.30 while out shopping
Lunch : bacon, sausages, egg, spinach and mushrooms
Dinner: salmon on asparagus, broccoli, spinach and mushrooms with a HM flour-free hollandaise sauce

mum, nothing really to offer, but didn't want to read and run, that sounds very hard. To answer your question, yes, I do think my weight gain was at least partly down to insulin resistance and massive blood sugar swings, but I'm not sure if that's what you mean? I also have had a total thyroidectomy, but to be honest, weight gain is not an early symptom of hypothyroidism for me. If my supplementation is off, I notice it in my skin, nails, hair, eye bags etc long before it impacts weight.

mumto3 don't cry lovely. You've lost 4 stone! That's fantastic! Ok you're in a 4 month stall, but that will change.

Post here pictures of your food. These lovely people will help. I am thinking you're not eating enough fat/protein. But we can't tell your portion sizes. Is it one slice of belly pork? That and some butter and mushrooms is not enough protein and fat.

mumto3boysHE · 02/09/2017 21:03

I'll post a photo tomorrow (I've just eaten today's)
I'm insulin resistant, PCOS, had tests years ago for ivf and thyroid was ok. Was put on metformin years ago and never lost a lb. I haven't spoken to a medical person about weight loss since the conversation about the Eat Well plate some years ago...

I've just had some blood tests done through Thriva. Cholesterol is 5.3, iron is fine but D3 is low at 53 (they say it's within good limits but I know from research that 53 is too low really) so I'll try and bump that up. I also have some supposedly wonderful hormone-fixing tablets on their way... Can't believe I've fallen for the advert, although the link was given to me by my hypnotherapist-health-food-vegan-lady. I suppose I can afford the extortionate cost because I'm not eating fruit, sweets, chocolate, bread, potatoes etc

mumto3boysHE · 02/09/2017 21:32

As for size of portion, I'm now eating off a plate that my nan had at age 97 from her meals-on-wheels! So not huge. And I've been doing that for months!

YoLoZammo · 02/09/2017 23:05

Might sound silly but have you tried exercise to boost your metabolism? Brisk walks I am talking about not necessarily the gym. Just upping physical activity levels. Do you have a fitbit? If so what is your average step count?

ragz134 · 03/09/2017 00:05

Hello all, just back from the wedding, so haven't caught up yet. Managed to avoid most carbs but I wasn't as strict as I'd hoped to be, I did have a few drinks and several miniature dessert things, I ate mostly salad and meat and cheese so at least I avoided all the cake, pastry and bread.
Have attached a photo as I was actually really pleased with how I looked today and that has been a very recent (last few weeks) thing. Even when I was a lot slimmer I thought I was fat and wore black most of the time! I've worked hard for this weight loss and I may not be at target but I really pleased with what I've achieved. Got a lot of compliments today, not weight loss based as most guests had not seen me in my obese stage, but just in general, which was lovely. Hoping this feeling will spur me on with SSS and possibly inspire others as well. Apologies if it seems like boasting, but I feel I can share these feelings with you all here

c4 so sorry to hear about #bastardsuperbug. I wonder if the infection is also lessening your appetite?

YoLoZammo · 03/09/2017 00:26

You look beautiful ragz. Surely you must be at target now. Smile

ragz134 · 03/09/2017 00:27

mumto3 that sounds rotten, I can why you're upset. But you still have your 4 stone loss and that is amazing for someone with pcos, the hormone imbalance that caused definitely does impact your weight. There may well be some supplements that can help with that, Low Carb itself should help as well so don't give it up if you are finding it reasonably easy to stick to (sounds like you've been doing a lot better than me!), but well worth tackling it from other angles as well. Not sure how helpful your gp is likely to be though?
cleareyes was it you asking about oil for deep frying? We use Lid vegetables oil which is actually rape seed oil and pretty good for frying in terms of heat resistance but not brilliant in terms of how processed it is. DH wants to try beef dripping in ours, in slowly coming around to the idea but need to check the manual to see if it's allowed. You can use solid fat in some deep fryers. Fats that are solid at room temperature are meant to be more stable so less likely to produce/break down into those dodgy trans fats when heated. Also animal fat is likely to be less processed because of it being a lot easier to extract than vegetables fats.

Wow, sorry for the essay! Better off to bed...

ragz134 · 03/09/2017 00:30

yolo aww thanks. About 20lbs to go, I'm only just on the cusp of a healthy BMI, but near enough to look OK in the right dress!
I'll post my latest progress photo tomorrow, it's a different story in just underwear!

YoLoZammo · 03/09/2017 01:06

Just don't go all Paula Radcliffe on us Ragz !!

Loved your dress btw. Great for your colouring.

ilovecherries · 03/09/2017 07:29

You look lovely, Ragz. Gorgeous dress as well.

ragz you look amazing, you should be proud!

Baby shower yesterday was a bit weird. Took some chicken drumsticks in the end, so ate 2 of those, plus some vegetable crisps and loads of tea & coffee & water. The host made homemade sausage rolls, so I ate the inside of one, very nice it was too. I was sitting next to a girl who is obsessed with diet & weight loss & very competitive. Apparently it "made her laugh" when I ate the inside of a sausage roll. Apparently Slimming World is the only way Hmm She was talking about "eating mindfully" and saying she was full, then going back for half a jam tart & chcocolate cake etc. I'v found this WOE actually does make me eat mindfully and actually I'm rarely properly hungry! But I refused to be drawn into a discussion.

Veryflummoxed · 03/09/2017 09:43

You look lovely Ragz. To feel confident and pleased with the way you look must be one of the best victories there is. So glad you had a good day and felt in control

ASDismynormality · 03/09/2017 10:09

You look lovely Ragz, you have every reason to feel proud!

mum. That sounds incredibly frustrating! Do you feel better in yourself, more healthy? Some people try an egg fast when they stall, maybe that would give the weightloss a kick start.

hippa. Diets really do seem like cults sometimes with people thinking their way is the only way, well done for not getting drawn into an argument!

lilydaisyrose · 03/09/2017 10:42

Off to a buffet today with friends. I am taking along a homemade coronation chicken and some cooked sausages (as well as crisps for the kids). I know there will be cold meat and cheese there too so I WILL be good - I just have to avoid the meringues! I'm down another couple of lbs and my energy levels are off the scale - I am actually getting off my backside to do housework!!!
