Shiraz it's an awful feeling! When I had it made drinks from oxo cubes or knorr stock cubes and put about a half teaspoon of salt into it. I take magnesium pills too as I think they help to get your electrolyte balance.

Shiraznowplease · 30/08/2017 16:31

Thank you @nomoreoatcakes, will try that. I think it's come as a surprise too which is making it feel worse

NOMOREoatcakesandcheese · 30/08/2017 16:36

If you like soft cheese then you might like these that I found yesterday in Waitrose - I love it!!
The feta Greek yogurt is bloody lovely. I had it for my evening meal on top of salad with a small salmon fillet and Delouis mayonnaise (also bought yday) and warmed in the microwave- it was delicious!!!

shiraz 12g is quite low, some people have found staying between 20-30g is necessary or they feel awful. Maybe add a little veg?

ilovecherries · 30/08/2017 17:08

I didn't count carbs at all initially, as advised, but as I persisted in feeling a bit crap, even though I was drinking bullion, taking magnesium etc I started to monitor my carbs just to see if there was a correlation. Under 20 and I feel dreadful and itch like mad. I don't have to go much above that to feel fine, but if I'm down at 18 I really do feel unwell.

shiraz 12 carbs is very low, I agree with OldBooks (I can never bring myself to shorten that name to Old, it just seems mean Wink)

Try to get more leafy green veg in there, spinach is a great one (Popeye was right!) as it can be in a salad or braised or wilted with garlic or whatever.

Lenl I don't think anyone answered whether being a carby twat can reset your appetite so you want more food. Yes, it definitely can and does.

Someone had a great link that explained it will--might be in the links on the spreadsheet tab. It explains why that happens and what the best way is to adjust again to your low carb fabulous way of eating.

I think it will take a couple of days, sorry.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 30/08/2017 17:29

Also, let's not discount the possibility you might be coming down with something. Hmm

Shiraznowplease · 30/08/2017 17:43

Thank you so much @ilovecherries, @old books and @cleareyes💐💐💐Yesterday was even lower in carbs plus I have been exercising (walked 5 miles on Monday and climbed pen y fan on Sunday and Zumba yesterday) so think you are all right with increase carbs at bit.

OldBooks · 30/08/2017 17:48

cleareyes maybe I should change it to RapidlyApproachingMiddleAgeBooks?

It's a reference to my job, the oldest book in the collection I manage is from 1398 Smile

Ilove I thought it was you who found it hard going under 20g but I wasn't 100% sure so didn't mention you!

wombattoo · 30/08/2017 18:20

Hello everyone and welcome new folk.

The thread has been busy and there have been some great post/losses and nsv.
shiraz Well done. 11lb is amazing Thanks

ClearEyes I hope you are feeling better Thanks

Part of strict September for me will be giving up alcohol, for the first ever Shock Wish me luck Grin

ClearEyesFullHearts · 30/08/2017 18:34

wombattoo, luck. Wink

ilovecherries · 30/08/2017 18:40

Yeah, it's me, OldBooks. I don't know yet how I made it through the first three weeks, I felt so miserable. I keep my carbs pretty much veg based though, apart from the odd coffee with cream. So a few slices of red pepper, a few cherry tomatoes, squeaky beans and an onion used in cooking on top of all the normal leafy stuff keeps me feeling fine. I don't need to eat carrots, parsnips or anything. I need to be careful on days out though, when the temptation is to just cart some cheese or hard boiled eggs along for ease, and the carbs then drop off, then by night time I'm all itchy and miserable.

cleareyes Flowers hope you clear it soon. Cranberry extract tablets and gallons of water always prevent mine turning into a kidney infection (had it in the past. Thought I was going to die with pain)

lenl one way of helping you succeed is to improve accountability. One way of doing that is to tell people. If your close family can't help you succeed by raising an eyebrow if you stuff your face with cake or chips, then what are they good for?? Wink

I cant see any benefit in keeping it a secret unless you are preparing for failure. Grab that determination to succeed that I am sure you have and just tell people that you dont eat carbs any more. It is that simple. Then if they say it won't work you can take great delight in proving them wrong. And if they love and support you Then they can help to keep you accountable. If you need to, ask a good friend/family member/partner to physically throw themselves between you and if they see you being tempted to cheat. Smile

Just my tip for the day. Wink

Before you know it, you will join the ranks of the lchf cult preachers and will tell everyone you know how great it is and why they should be doing it too. I am running out of people to try and convert.... Wink

shiraz this article posted by Grah may give you some answers.

Hi @Lenl

ClearEyesFullHearts is right I posted a link in this thread about carbs effecting you.
If you view all messages and do ctrl-f and search for carbyt it will bring up a link called carbytwatness and physiological responses

Which explains why the body has crazy hungry feeling the day/s after-the initial carby day.

My NSV -
Hovering on the brink of 200 since the 199.7 reading.

But haven't emptied any fiber, if you know what I mean since, so hopefully will produce the whoosh straight down to 14st or 196.

With the booze chats, I have a bottle of champion beer with 199 on and it was the target achievement reward. September is DW and my birthday month. So will have to decide is the 1st target reward worth it or shall I save it till the final target 180....

hummmmm.

Grah0SoontobeaFatty · 30/08/2017 19:13

Thanks @YoLoZammo was writing and previewing in work so didn't see your update.

Lenl · 30/08/2017 20:12

Thanks Grah0SoontobeaFatty I found it, really interesting

L238 · 30/08/2017 20:17

Can someone give me a bit of a slap pep talk please?
I haven't lost any weight for about 4 weeks but clothes do feel looser. I did have 2 carby twat days at the start of the month but have stuck to the plan since then. I'm pretty sure I'm following the rules properly although I will look over them again just in case. I've cut right down on booze too, had it maybe twice in total this month.
I'm not finding LCHF too much of a struggle although they have been some sweet cravings recently but I somehow feel "hard done by" because the scales aren't moving. Someone I know is doing WW, eats crap all day but has lost 11.5lb in 4 weeks whereas it's taken me 3 times that long.
I know I'm being stupid but just a bit frustrated. I don't want to quit because I really believe in this WoE. Maybe I need to hide the scales!!

wotabastard · 30/08/2017 20:36

@L238 If your clothes are feeling looser you are definitely on the way. You could be due a 'whoosh' soon! Take measurements of your upper arms, waist, hips and thighs and check them once a week rather than relying on the scales for tangible evidence of weightloss, especially if the darn scales aren't cooperating! KOKO!

RaininSummer · 30/08/2017 20:49

L238, my scales don't seem to move much at all but I have lost almost a stone now since May so just koko and eventual!y the scales will catch up.

Veryflummoxed · 30/08/2017 20:55

L238 Listen to your clothes not the scales. They feel looser that means you've lost fat. Keep going, (plateaus are common) the scales will shift again but the looseness of your clothing is really all the proof you need. Well done with your loss so far. It doesn't need to be fast. Look at the other benefits. Do you enjoy your food? Are you satisfied? Are you feeling health benefits? You've lost roughly a pound a week. That's a very healthy rate of loss.

Cleareyes that sounds horrible. Hope things improve soon and you get reassurance Flowers

Grah0SoontobeaFatty · 30/08/2017 20:55

@L238 somethings to consider
Depending on your amount to lose, and intake v usage and how long you've been doing it. Then reason can be different.

BUT Stalling for weeks is not unusual and regardless of how many times we tell ourselves you're right it is a piss off.

If you're new go to the boot camp main thread list and look at the thread for the week your on. See others experiencing the same thing... might help.

Put in here where you are ( amount to lose, week on) and then what you're eating and perhaps someone might be able to help.

Some of us that weigh multiple times a day notice there is several pounds of swings in a day. So if your weighing every now and then you might not be spotting the best numbers.

Then like wotabastard said having NSV shows its working and your just holding water in the half emptied fat cells.

MOIST · 30/08/2017 21:23

Still haven't caught up properly. Been at work for days and days. Bloody knackered.

However I have discovered corned beef!!!!!

And tomorrow I am writing the bastard essay.

L238 · 30/08/2017 21:30

Thank you everyone for your wise and comforting words.
very I am enjoying the food and feeling energetic, not hungry etc BUT I miss experimenting with the wide range of food and recipes that I used to. I was very into bread and cake baking and whilst I don't miss the foods themselves I do miss the creative process of making them. I don't trust myself not to cheat if I bake at the moment!
As for the rate of weight loss I think I'm used to losing faster on previous diets BUT none have been as easy/enjoyable to stick to so I just need to pull my socks up, KOKO and stick to it!!
Might make some flaxbread to scratch the baking itch and hope a whoosh is on its way Grin
Thanks again

ragz134 · 30/08/2017 21:53

clear eyes hope you're better soon and it doesn't turn to kidneys, DB got that last Xmas and ended up in retention and spent Xmas with a catheter in (silly sod felt a little better after two days on ABX and decided to go out and drink too many pints!).

SSS for me is

  • no alcohol (bar one small toast at the wedding Saturday). Not hard for me.
  • no eating peanut butter from the jar. No eating nuts as I eat too many.
  • no protein rolls
  • no eating cream from the pot, just cook with it!
  • more green veg (DH bought me a spiraliser for my birthday, loving courgetti!)
  • IF as I find it easy and rarely eat breakfast.
  • Drink 2-3l of water a day. I really slacked off with this and it shows.

Today has been an example of why rules are needed! (Excuses are pmt, pain and painkillers!)
Brunch - sofa, spoon, jar of peanut butter... Snack - Piece of cheese.
Dinner - chili con carne with broccoli and cheese.
Snack - cream from the tub...

Looking forward to an excuse to get strict! Am back at uni so will need packed lunches roughly 3 times a week, so I need to plan ahead and shop accordingly.
