ClearEyes I think you are making my point. Cereal for breakfast, sandwich for lunch, pasta for dinner - all potentially low meat options.

prettybird · 29/07/2017 15:51

Yes - but a HFLC yoghurt and blueberries for breakfast, Greek salad for lunch and a small portion of roast chicken with celeriac and broccoli, a few macadamia nuts for snacks are hardly "peak meat" Hmm

Even adding in free range eggs is hardly adding to the "load" on world food production.

Remember that in Italy, pasta is eaten in moderation as a starter and pizza is fast food a treat, not eaten every day meal.

The Western carb loaded diet is the aberration, not the norm - and is not even that "old".

OldBooks · 29/07/2017 16:16

No one is advocating the elimination of carbohydrates. The real battle is against processed foods, additives, and sugar leading to problems with health

Hear hear cleareyes

The other day I had chunks of cheeses and cold meats for breakfast, leftovers from a picnic. My colleague came in and said (light-hearted) "how medieval". I thought actually yes, that's the point!

ClearEyesFullHearts · 29/07/2017 17:04

Golly, y'all, thanks.

As an ex cheerleading captain, I find the pom pons are particularly appreciated, OldBooks.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 29/07/2017 17:04

But we are all just taking sense, really.

I was 'nearly' vegan for over a decade (still ate honey and wore silk, so a little lax round the edges). My motivation was entirely based on 'feed the world', not about health or animal welfare particularly. Overtime though I came to realise that a lot of what I was eating came with a shit load of polluting air miles, and/or were crops that contributed to modern slavery, land depletion, deforestation etc. I've always lived in fairly rural areas (north of Scotland, Cumbria etc), and I looked around and realised I could probably eat meat that had been raised on ground that wouldn't support much else (in the case of lamb), and/or had lived and been slaughtered within 10 miles. That seemed a better option all of a sudden. I'd certainly say that with the exception of more eggs that usual, I haven't eaten more protein on this BC - I've just eaten it with a lot less crap. I still eat a fair amount of vegetable based meals - meat is used for flavour and texture rather than huge slabs of protein sitting on my plate. But because I'm adding fat now, those vegetable based meals are satisfying. There are loads of problematic issues round food in the developed world - food waste, food miles, franken-foods. I suspect against these, low-carbers aren't creating an apocalyptic future for everyone else.

ilovecherries · 29/07/2017 19:16

Breakfast - vegetable stir fry (in butter) to use up wilting veg, with a fried egg in the middle.
Lunch - nothing, we were out walking and just didn't notice lunchtime
Snack - coffee, small piece of cheddar and a square of dark chocolate when we came off the beach
Dinner - home made veg curry. 6 different veggies, loads of coconut oil.

Naschkatze · 29/07/2017 19:27

Gosh I keep falling off the thread. *

Cleareyes* I fully agree with your post. Although there are foods I've missed, I know I don't need to go back to eating three carby meals a day. I'm looking forward to finding out what I can eat to maintain my weight and I know what works if I do put on a few lbs.

Today:
B - tea, piece of cold bacon.
L - cheese and spring onion omelette. Cooked by DH so probably lacking on the butter. He hasn't quite got the hang of the high fat part of this WOEHmm
D - Chicken in an ale rarebit sauce from Sainsbury's (8.8g carbs) broccoli and swede. Fairly carby meal but it was worth it for things we could just shove in the oven and leave!

So pleased I've broken the snacking habit that seemed to be a consequence of breastfeeding and being home most of the time!

ClearEyesFullHearts · 29/07/2017 20:38

My Parmesan courgettes need work. Ffs.

NigellasGuest · 29/07/2017 21:08

Want to be 8.5 stone but ALWAYS plateau at 8.12 ish. I wonder if that's where supposed to be.
Thanks everyone for the thread - not posting much but reading every day. So happy to read about everyone's victories. Namastorama!!!

MOIST · 29/07/2017 21:35

I really like that I'm eating proper food. No packet shit.
Busy lovely day at work. A 2 baby sort of day.
Not drunk enough but I didn't eat any of the chocolate or 8 bags of sweets we were bought.

MOIST · 29/07/2017 21:41

I could be 8.5 stone.

If I cut off one of my legs

And weighed just the leg.

NigellasGuest · 29/07/2017 21:47

It's all relative. Half a stone is most of my body and the 8 stone is just my belly

MOIST · 29/07/2017 21:51

And my BMI would be normal if I were 6 foot 7.

YoLoZammo · 29/07/2017 22:00

Lol @ moist and nigella !!! I reckon my chins weigh a couple of pounds!!

And hippa sorry I don't buy it. At the risk of being a bit BIWI-ish, we all have choices about what food we put in our mouths. Nobody takes these away from us. I've got through a family wedding and two birthdays and stayed mostly on track (a bite of cake, one cocktail) and if I can do it anyone can. I am known for my complete lack of willpower. hippa I hope you followed the good advice you had to either eat before you went so you wouldn't be hungry, to just eat fillings or ask for strawberries and cream instead, etc. I say this because you will no doubt feel shite if you just eat high sugar crap (even to please someone else). Shite physically and mentally. And it's not worth it. And then the guilt and the weight stall or gain, the water retention, getting out of ketosis , the self hatred and disappointment... I've been there. It's not a good place. I mean this in the spirit of support and comradeship, not to berate you. Smile

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 29/07/2017 23:08

Zammo I'm not offended, I took it in the spirit in which it was meant.

It wasn't too bad in the end, there were only 3 small finger sandwiches. I ordered smoked salmon & cream cheese & managed to take one of the fingers of bread off. Ate the cream from the DDs children's cream horns and had lots of coffee. And a bite of DD2's cake pop. Sorry not sorry Grin

Came home and had a lovely BC keema curry with cheese on top. Yummers.

Veryflummoxed · 29/07/2017 23:39

Grin Moist and Nigella

Today I had lunch. Broccoli and cauliflower with butter and melted cheese.
Dinner. Meat balls with buttered cauliflower, broccoli, sprouts and a sprinkle of Stilton. Oh and mushrooms cooked in butter.

Not much water today. Hadn't really realised till now (and I think that probably means Ive been slipping over the last few days if I'm honest). It was so much easier to down when it was hot. He be had a lot of mint tea though.

Only a couple more days to go. My trousers felt looser today. I am away for a couple of nights next week and have formed a low carb plan. I've had a couple of carbs impulses the last day or so and normally I might have said well I'm going to treat myself on holiday so I might as well start now. Because of my intent to eat well and healthily while away I've resisted the urge, and happily too, as I now finally seem to be understanding that I'm not going to feel better after a binge.

YoLoZammo · 30/07/2017 01:31

hippa Smile

Grah0SoontobeaFatty · 30/07/2017 06:31

Hi everyone,
hi C4 how about your kids staying at their mum will you have the contagious pneumonia?

And for the wedding as they are over the age of 21 get them to PAY for themselves, or get the relative/wedding party people to suggest some similar age person to take them clubbing, partying. Surely they should have grown up enough to no want to drag DH around to all these events.

Final option Wait you might have a relapse and not be able to go and need to let DH go with just the skids for a week 24/7 just him and them. See if its fun or eyeopening?

But enough of nosey webbie bloke. Been having a great week my self. completed a 100 mile bike ride - terrain mostly flat, 32c humidity feels like 38c. Drank 6 litres of water
b - omelete bacon coffee
l cheese / pork almonds at the halfway beach

Finish ride weight 201.4 lb so supper
Rack of ribs no sauce cheese spicy mayo salad 2litres of water 2 large teas weight 205.4.

Which fingers cross by money I can get rid off. Will be over the moon if can get to 199. but 201 is lowest for about 18 years. so still feeling chuffed tonight. Might start HIIT exercises next week to build muscle and not lose to much.

This boot camp and you lot have really helped avoid a lot humanicide treats.

Thank you
Grah is a fatty - not a Obese

OldBooks · 30/07/2017 07:03

Well done Grah! Will you change your name to reflect your fatty status?

Flummoxed I have been rubbish on water the last few days. DD keeps stealing my water bottle which doesn't help!

Good work avoiding temptation Hippa. I have to say I have been disappointed by the few mouthfuls of 'treats' I have had over BC, whether a bit of DD's birthday cake or a lick of DDs ice cream. They just didn't taste that good. The need for the sugar high has gone and now that I am objective I can see that these things aren't actually that nice!

Your exchange did make me snort Nigellas and Moist. But on a serious note while 8 stone is a very distant and unachievable dream for me, I wouldn't want Nigellas to feel that she can't come here for support to lose those last few pounds. I like the diversity of the group that some are close to maintenance and some (like me) have literally years to go.

I had a very bingeing day yesterday Hmm not sure why, maybe AF again - it has been a whole week since my 4 week long AF stopped so surely I am due again? I seem to be synchronising with my colleague and she started end of last week so it is plausible. I binged on LCHF 'approved' stuff but way too much. Feel rough for it this morning, really hungry and headachey. Going to have a big breakfast then probably skip lunch as working 10-4 in a public facing event so there usually isn't time to break for lunch. Then lovely big lchf tea when I get home!

Distractotron · 30/07/2017 07:41

Hi everyone 😊
Did my first proper LCHF day yesterday and carrying on today. Ate a LOT yesterday (always hungry at the start). Cheese omelette for breakfast. At work today (I work at a hospital) - haven"t got a packed lunch so am hoping I can find something nice for lunch in the canteen. Yesterday I had chilli with green beans so not too bad. Need to be more organised with packed lunches.
The meat discussion is interesting. I do tend to eat a lot more meat when keeping to this WOE - and like someone said, when not sticking to it I end up having nonstop sandwiches, chips, etc. I want to aim for more veg-based meals so will have a think about that and do some research. Will also have a look through these threads for ideas. Hope you all have a good day!
