I've always measured my waist as my smallest part, which is a couple of inches over the limit they set, however it is coming down and so I thought I was ok.
However, I was reading this on the NHS website yesterday:
^To measure your waist:
find the bottom of your ribs and the top of your hips
wrap a tape measure around your waist, midway between these points
breathe out naturally before taking the measurement
Regardless of your height or BMI, you should try to lose weight if your waist is:
94cm (37ins) or more for men
80cm (31.5ins) or more for women
You are at very high risk and you should contact your GP if your waist is:
102cm (40ins) or more for men
88cm (34ins) or more for women^
When I measure my waist this way, which is just above my bellybutton, I am 38in! Which means I am 4in over the 'at very high risk' limit!
I am now within the healthy BMI range (although only just) and am starting to fit in some size 12 clothes, so am a bit surprised by this. Is it something I should be seeing by GP about?
I am losing weight and therefore hopefully inches, but can't imagine that I will lose 7 inches around my waist to get to the healthy size?!
