Week 6 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - we're racing on!

Morning campers!

Here's the spreadsheet

Some good losses reported already this morning!

Four weeks left, so we could still see a good half stone disappear if we're vigilant.

The hot weather looks like it's disappearing this week, so hopefully anyone still struggling with water retention should find some relief.

But good luck to us all

Afternoon all, haven't had chance to catch up with the thread properly - it moves too fast!

Thanks for the dessert suggestions, I've passed on the chocolate pot recipe to DP Grin

I was up 2lbs for the official weigh in this week, but I've just sneakily weighed myself this morning and I'm now down 3lbs making me 11st6

I'm so, so pleased I love this WOE. I keep thinking I can't possibly be losing weight eating all this delicious stuff but I am! I think I'm 11lbs down now since the start of bootcamp now.

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 28/06/2017 13:47

Haha that's brilliant Jim and well done Scooby

I've just discovered heaven. Adding a few drops of tabasco sauce to mayo. I can't believe I've never thought of doing it before. It's amazing.

Food:
B - Microwave scrambled eggs & ham
S - (hungry today) - biltong and some cheese
L - egg & cream cheese pancakes, rocket salad, mayo
D - got roast pork shoulder, swede mash, broccoli, although I'm stuffed after the pancakes, they're very filling

dustmotesinthesun · 28/06/2017 13:55

Lol jim. Nosy cow. I would never ever comment on other peoples' food choices. It's so rude

StuntNun · 28/06/2017 13:58

Nameless you just need a leather punch to make new holes in your belt.

I'm no expert C4 but a quick Google of the literature suggests that there's no basis for making such as drastic reduction in calorie requirements due to paralysis. I don't think you need to photo your food but bear in mind that your portion sizes will only be slightly smaller than those of a more active person. Trust the Bootcamp rules and eat to your hunger levels. Also make sure you're getting plenty of protein so that you can heal effectively.

Finally they are oh so wrong on statins. I've been trying to get my mum to stop taking them but she trusts her GP. Despite the fact that there is not one study showing any benefit of statins in women apart from that they lower cholesterol levels. Which sounds good in theory, except that they have no effect on overall mortality rate. And the side effects can be pretty serious.

Sounds like your dad's in a bad way Jiminny. I hope he makes a quick recovery. Well done on getting through yesterday without being a carby twat. Grin I'm making your pork belly recipe today, can't wait for it to be ready. I love a bit of pork belly.

Cherrypi you have that backwards. There is an assumption that you lose weight on a low carb diet because you are eating fewer calories. The way it actually works is you eat less on a low carb diet because you are overweight. If someone that is already at their ideal weight starts eating low carb they they won't lose weight. It's all to do with leptin signalling, your fat cells release leptin to tell the brain how much fat is stored but a modern "healthy" diet causes leptin resistance so that message can't get through. Your brain gets the message that your body is starving and prioritises fat storage. You don't get overweight because you eat more; you eat more because you are overweight.

Chester Flowers it sounds like you're struggling at the moment. I can sympathise with your woes, they sound a lot like my own.

Rupert the soya milk is fine. It probably won't foam well for a latte but you'd be able to steam it.

Hippa I love mayo with a bit of curry powder mixed in. Delicious with hardboiled eggs.

Dust I love eyeing up other peoples' trolleys at the supermarket. Not to pass judgement or anything, I'm just nosy. My DBIL once went through the checkout with a bottle of champagne, a box of chocolates and a pack of condoms just to see whether the lady behind the checkout would say anything!

BIWI · 28/06/2017 14:02

@ChesterDraws Flowers You sound truly fed up. What did you DH say when you cried? Did you talk to him about how overwhelmed you are feeling?

He may work away, but surely he's not away all the time - why can't he be helping out with sorting and tidying when he's there?

But definitely get yourself a babysitter and make sure that you go out. You are totally entitled to some R&R time of your own.

ShastaBeast · 28/06/2017 14:03

Wow that's incredible Jiminny, how flipping rude! Your trolley looks fine, you could've been using the butter and cream for a bake sale for all she knew. I'm pretty sure she'd never have said anything to a man, and obviously not to a 'thin' person. I've had shit for being a "young" (I'm actually a lot older than they think) mum so I can well believe it. On the other hand my husband gets random praise for taking the kids to the supermarket.

On the flax cracker issue - I used a glass to roll it flat, doesn't stick like it did to the wooden rolling pin.

Had my usual cream coffee with yoghurt and raspberries. Some sneaky peanut butter and apple as a snack. Flax seed crackers with butter and cheddar for lunch - felt very guilty for that. I don't know about dinner. I skipped dinner last night as I was full from the rest of the day's food. Fat definitely keeps me full for longer.

StuntNun · 28/06/2017 14:13

For the flaxseed crackers, you could try rolling it out between two sheets of greaseproof paper to stop it sticking.

NamelessEnsign · 28/06/2017 14:14

Jimminy I am (quietly because in a meeting) cheering on your trolley stand off Grin

NamelessEnsign · 28/06/2017 14:16

StuntNun ooh yes to a leather punch! Thanks!

Naschkatze · 28/06/2017 14:55

Jim I've started looking at other people's trolleys to spot other LCHFers. Haven't seen anyone yet!

Chester Definitely get a babysitter, get dressed up and go out. Do you have family who can help you out? I get really fed up when the house is untidy as well - it really stresses me out. And that drives my DH mad because he doesn't really see the problem of a bit of clutter!
I hope your dog will be home soon and you can spoil her rotten to let her know you will always come back for her. Flowers

NSV today: I've packed away all my maternity clothes apart from one pair of jeans that are just too comfy and one pair of normal jeans I bought straight after DS was born because I had no non maternity clothes that fit are now far too big! Also had a sneaky weigh in and it seems that I'm another 2lb down. Hoping that it lasts the week. Don't know what I'm doing differently except my appetite is much reduced!

HemanOrSheRa · 28/06/2017 15:07

What on earth makes people think it's OK to comment on someone's shopping trolley contents Confused.

nekobus · 28/06/2017 15:10

Chester Flowers its good to share on here if you are having a crap time! Can you get a babysitter and still go out?

Grin at trolley stand-off. I love checking out what other people are buying, would never comment though unless it's to say ooh that looks nice have you tried it before!

Weighed myself yesterday after my cast came off and I'm a pound heavier Shock I have got lots of swelling though which I hope is what is causing it...

Today:
B - coconut pancakes and butter, creamy coffee, tea with soya
L - leftover cottage pie with extra swede mash and melted cheddar
D - either roast chicken or meatballs. Both need cooked today Hmm I'm terrible with use by dates and end up shoving stuff in the freezer on its use by date.
S - a few slices of chorizo and a few olives. A spoon of the meridian cocoa and hazelnut butter (must not buy that again I'm not to be trusted)

Lots of liquid in the form of 2L bottle fizzy fruit tea water plus 1L water. Sloshing about

HemanOrSheRa · 28/06/2017 15:22

Oooh. I had a subway salad for lunch. I haven't eaten for a couple of days due to illness - just some dry toast. I wasn't really hungry this morning either so didn't take food with me.

Anyway I was gripped by hunger at 12pm so I called in at the subway near our office. I had a chicken breast salad with Chipotle dressing (I recall someone posting that ?Stunt). It was bloody LUSH! I've only been in subway twice before. I don't understand the questions about what you want BlushGrin. DS loves it but he has to go up to the counter on his own otherwise he'd die of The Cringe Grin. So I'm very pleased to have found a low carb fast food option if we need it.

JiminnyCricket · 28/06/2017 15:27

stunt I NEED to know how your pork belly turns out Grin

Cherrypi · 28/06/2017 15:35

That's interesting stuntnun so when I stop losing weight by low carbing I'm the correct weight?

What a rude woman Jiminny.

It does seem that the most praised female achievement is losing weight and the most praised male achievement is looking after their own children.

Sunborn · 28/06/2017 15:45

I just want to cry. I've tried SO hard with food this week, and been really good, and I've put on a pound since yesterday. I so wanted to break the 10 stone barrier this week, and I've put on a pound instead?

I feel so angry and upset and disappointed.

Food today has been:
Breakfast: small portion of ff Greek yogurt
Lunch: asparagus Frittata with cauliflower rice
Dinner: fatty tuna with soy fried broccoli.

AdalindSchade · 28/06/2017 15:51

Ooh I just had two teaspoons of butter and peanut butter mixed Blush after making toast for ds I had to. Lush.

Naschkatze · 28/06/2017 15:55

Nekobus Where did you find the cocoa nut butter?! I've been looking everywhere. --Well Sainsbury's and Tesco..

ClearEyesFullHearts · 28/06/2017 16:08

I think I can help you. I don't mean to be rude but...

Ha ha ha! Possibly a consultant?

Jiminny you handled the situation really well and it's a lesson for all of us, to be prepared if/when someone questions our choices (even if the person is being rude, others might be curious).

It's understandable that people want to share the secrets of their success and we've all acknowledged that this way of eating might not be for everyone, and that's fine.

But we can all point to our trolleys and point out we are eating real food, loads of vegetables, making steady progress, and there is science to back it up.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 28/06/2017 16:12

Sunborn a "pound since yesterday" is meaningless. It truly is.

Look at the overall trajectory after a week, a month, three months.

Enjoy the food you are eating.

Hate to bring out this old saw, but it didn't take you two months (for example) to gain the weight, and you won't lose the weight in two months (for example).

We all need patience, commitment, and understanding of our reasons for gaining weight. Flowers

cabbage67 · 28/06/2017 16:13

My mouth is still Shock at that woman's comment Jim. How very dare she?

Flibbertyjibbit · 28/06/2017 16:14

Naschkatze I found the cocoa nut butter in Sainsburies, it's on the same shelf as nutella / peanut butters. It's great with a dollop of cream and a few raspberries as a dessert.

Kleptronic · 28/06/2017 16:14

Sunborn it's water. It is not possible to put 1lb of fat on overnight. Don't be despondent, honestly it's water. You can go + or - 1-5lb any given day, due to fluid retention/loss, what's in your stomach/bowels. Trust me, day to day I wibble about all over the place! BUT my overall trend is down. 12lb down. You will too. KOKO Flowers

MOIST · 28/06/2017 16:22

Chester Flowers.

I'm busy. Too much on. My days off are stuffed to bursting and I still run out of time to do stuff. I need to cook something for tomorrow's meals but haven't the energy. I need to shop before cooking too. Dogs need a walk. House is a tip. Must get on......

ShastaBeast · 28/06/2017 16:28

Sunborn - step away from the scales. A bit of slow digestion can easily add a few pounds, it's meaningless. That's why the body analysis scales are useful, although I never managed to use them reliably. The best weightloss is loss of fat and minimal muscle loss, or even muscle gain which increases your metabolic rate. And I've lost inches without shifting the scale, followed by a big drop in weight but little change in appearance. Listen to the wisdom here and limit weigh ins to once a week at most.

I'm definitely feeling better in some clothes, but weirdly not much difference in feel or looks in my jeans. Stretch denim has a lot to answer for! It contained an extra 10lb of me without complaint so I didn't notice.
