I don't think that BIWI has managed to post a new thread so I'll do this one.

I don't have the wise words of BIWI so I'll just say that by now you should be more in the swing of lcing so just keep it up and remember, only 1 week until bclite.

Hopefully you all have a successful weigh-in but if not, don't be disheartened. Post for some help and we will do our best.

My husband normally spends the entire two hours trying to convince me that we really don't need mountain rescue to airlift me off the bloody hill, so he was a little amazed it was such a peaceful day, and all I needed was a water bottle.

nekobus · 29/05/2017 15:43

Well done ilove that's great! Love a NSV

nekobus · 29/05/2017 15:44

Found this poster on 'ditch the carbs' site - quite useful I thought (net carbs per 100g)

Week 2 - Pre-summer low carb bootcamp
Naschkatze · 29/05/2017 15:52

Sayrra I think I'm a 2 at heart but trying to be a 1 because I'm scared of Biwi and her stick because telling myself I can eat that biscuit (and cake and crisps and chocolate bar) as I'm breastfeeding was what got me into this mess in the first place. Grin --Secretly hoping I can be a 4...

B - 1 sausage, 1 slice bacon, mushrooms, tomato, fried egg.
L - also at a food festival. Watched DH eat his pulled pork burger. Had chargrilled chicken and salad and olives on a flatbread, bread went in the bin Halo

Not sure about dinner yet... we don't have much in and I'm not that hungry (yay for this WOE) so might just be some yoghurt, or celery and cheese.

I need to meal plan for this week. Does anyone have any tips for not spending a fortune on this WOE? I'm used to bulking meals out with cheap carbs.

styledilemma · 29/05/2017 16:10

I'm craving sausages. Think I might buy some for tomorrow.
(Asda extra special low carb (plain) ones were delicious and really filling)

styledilemma · 29/05/2017 16:11

Meant to say they were gluten free (didn't say carb free), but they were 90% meat so that's not bad.

ilovecherries · 29/05/2017 16:11

I've been a 1 this last week, so I'm hoping that continues. I can't decide though if I actually spent 5 years at the pre-contemplation stage, or 5 minutes. Certainly been trying and failing to lose weight for 5 years (I used to be quite slender, now I'm most definitely not), but I just saw the sign up post in popular threads on Sunday evening, which brought me over here, then I read dozens of threads in the topic, took a good hard look at myself, and went 'Ok, you need to do something different, and you need to start now, there will ALWAYS be a reason why it's not a good time, so just do it', and I signed up and got going. The sudden spectacular drop in carbs did make me feel totally shit for a good few days and I wish I'd maybe been slightly more cautious at the beginning, but for the first time in a long time I feel some hope that it's possible.

styledilemma · 29/05/2017 16:19

Hi cherries, glad to see you're feeling positive and things are moving in the right direction for you.

explodingkittens · 29/05/2017 16:20

Love the stereotypes Wink

Someone upthread was asking about 16/8 fasting (sorry iPad is refusing to scroll atm!) I've not eaten breakfast for years and tend to eat in a window between 1pm-8pm with only fluids outside of that time. However that does include creamy coffee so not technically 'fasting' (ie no calories) in the strictest sense.

It works for me though, and I think there is a lot of sense in the idea of giving your body a rest from constantly digesting food. The idea of 'grazing' or eating little and often has now been proved to be harmful - another bit of crappy receive wisdom doing us more harm than good - particularly if those foods are carb-based. Plays absolute havoc with your blood sugar, whereas on LCHF plus a bit of intermittent fasting you stay nice and stable all day long. Our bodies certainly wouldn't have had a constant source of energy as we evolved, and we are adapted to manage short periods of 'starvation', in fact for most people it's a very healthy way to be.

However my caveat (before the stick comes out) is that Bootcamp means breakfast, at least for the first two weeks! You do need to be quite well fat-adapted to not eat for 16-18 hours on the trot...

*Someone who thinks sod it, slinks off and misses out on all the support available.....

That last one sometimes reappears a few BCs later on when it clicks as the 'evangelist'*

Blush think someone's described me to a T. Grin

Have pork loin in the oven which smells divine. Also just made one of the DC's favourite puddings - a very unmumsnetty angel delight on a digestive base. I promise I didn't lick the spoon and I won't be partaking later. So, the round up of today's food is:

B: creamy coffee x2
L: tuna mayo, olives and salad
D: pork, crackling, mashed cauli, buttered leeks and broccoli. I always make sure there is enough of Sunday's dinner left over for me to take to work on Monday. I know my days are wrong, but that's still the plan.
S: another creamy coffee.

Someone was asking about 16:8, it fits in very well with this woe and a few people do it. If I didn't have my creamy coffees, then it would pretty much be what I do.

CaptainBraandPants · 29/05/2017 16:24

exploding cross post! I love my creamy coffees. Grin

ilovecherries · 29/05/2017 16:25

I bought some 0.6 gms of carbs/per 100 gms sausages from M&S today on a multi buy offer. I'm trying not to eat processed stuff but there is something so satisfying about a sausage. I find it's really hard not to feel that all is well with the world when sausages are on the menu. I got 4 packs but put 3 and a half packs in the freezer, so I've just got a few ready to cook when that moment hits. :)

explodingkittens · 29/05/2017 16:28

Me too captain! And I've just seen what you had for lunch - same as me, I even had olives as well...spooky Grin

Although in a rather poor bit of planning I'm going to be having tuna for dinner as well, steaks this time, with buttery cabbage and roasted broccoli I think.

Patapouf · 29/05/2017 16:32

It's taken me all day to catch up on the threads. I'm down 4.8lbs this week so I'm pleased, especially given AF is back.
I'm more or less the weight I achieved at the end of last BC, so onwards and downwards as I'm only 1/3 of the way there.

I've eaten a few random meals in th last couple of days because I have spent no time prepping anything. Today I've been grazing on roast beef slices/Serrano ham/prawns in olive oil because I've not been hungry enough to eat a normal plate in one go. Did manage some scrambled egg for lunch and I've got several meats marinating in different herbs/oils so I've got meals sorted for the coming days.

1.5l of water down, 2 to go and I'll be off to the gym later.

ilovecherries · 29/05/2017 16:34

Following on from the cookbook conversation up thread - I have the Tom Kerridge book, but he talks about low carb and pushing protein. It's not low fat as such, but he doesn't really seem to address fat, it's def more protein. And I have Annie Bell's Low Carb Cooking, and she def talks about high protein and low fat - or at least, managing fat downwards, with lean meats etc. It's as if (certainly in Bell's one), they've decided low carb is good, but can't bring themselves to go against the low fat messaging, so it all gets a bit confused (and confusing).

CaptainBraandPants · 29/05/2017 16:35

We obviously have similar good taste exploding. Grin
ilove I agree, the world is a better place when a sausage is involved.

ilovecherries · 29/05/2017 16:36

I think when Ive flirted with low carb in the past, it's failed because I've tried to also go low fat. There are only so many skinless chicken breasts with salad and low fat dressing that you can eat without diving face first into the Ben and Jerry's.

ChesterDrawers · 29/05/2017 16:37

Loving the stereotypes too, I think I've been all of them at some point over the years but currently trying to be a number 1 after reaching my heaviest non-pregnant weight ever.

DH and DS have just been sat devouring Magnums while I have had one of my almond milk lolly ices feeling all virtuous I'm not going to lie and tell you they were anything remotely as good as a magnum but they hit the spot for me.

explodingkittens · 29/05/2017 16:41

'There is something so satisfying about a sausage'

Grin

Never a truer word was spoken! Can that be the week 3 thread title please?

styledilemma · 29/05/2017 16:41

ilove I agree, the world is a better place when a sausage is involved.

Agree with this 100%
Steamed fish and boiled eggs don't quite hit the mark somehow.

Mandelinka · 29/05/2017 16:42

Thanks to all the ladies for keeping an eye on the BC and putting us straight when needed. I cheated on my first day ( not intentionally- used sw potatoe and a spud in my soup ) and was reminded about the rules. This made me realise to take the BC more seriously and appreciate the time and advice from the more senior BCampers 💐

Today is day 7 for me, weigh in tomorrow morning.

Well done to all for all the lovely losses and sticking to it! 👍

styledilemma · 29/05/2017 16:43

Chester was it you that made the coffee flavoured lollies? (i've lost track of where I am and who's done what Confused)
What were they like?

ilovecherries · 29/05/2017 16:44

Grin, Kittens

ScoobyDoosTinklyLaugh · 29/05/2017 16:48

Well done Cherries! Flowers

Can someone explain to me the US carb/ fibre / net thing?

I want to find out if I can eat nettles and wild garlic.
