Week 3 - Spring Low Carb Bootcamp - To B or to BC, that is the question!

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet

I see from the last thread that some of you have already weighed in - well done to those who've lost and commiserations with those of you who haven't.

We now enter week 3, which is notorious (along with week 4) for being a bit of a bugger of a week Grin

At this point, you'll see weight loss slow, stop or even reverse. It's a very, very common thing. So if this happens to you, don't panic - it's perfectly normal. Your body is adjusting, and weight loss will resume again, assuming that you keep on keeping on.

You can now choose whether or not you want to move on to Bootcamp Light, which allows a bit of fruit, some nuts/seeds and alcohol - all in moderation of course!

If you prefer, and if it's suiting you, you can stay on Bootcamp - or you could do a mix of both. So Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend. Up to you.

Good luck whichever approach you take

Psyllium husks Tunnocks.

CaptainBraandPants · 22/02/2017 17:42

Change of plan for dinner as I managed to nip to the farm shop and get belly pork. I've put it in the slow cooker for a few hours, then I'll finish it off in the oven, so I get lovely crackling. Mmm, crackling
Tunnocks magnesium tablets do the trick for me.

mrwalkensir · 22/02/2017 18:02

Suspect that fried courgette is good for constipation. I'm eating a lot of salad which probably helps too. On the dream front, popped in to see Richard E Grant last night in his 1960s mid terrace townhouse - helped him make better use of the storage space under his stairs. (This is not a euphemism)

wombattoo · 22/02/2017 19:14

Hello all
Welcome kitty you are welcome to post and good luck Thanks
Psyllium husk you say Stunt? I have tried everything. I took magnesium tablets last year - no joy. On the recommendation of a poster I have bought Magnesium that is fizzy and dissolves in a glass of water. No better and it contains sweeteners my bad I have also been drinking flax oil which cost an arm and a leg. Still no better Sad
I will try the husks.

Veryflummoxed · 22/02/2017 19:20

Hi all.
Lunch left over belly Kirk and dressed leaves. Ff total yogurt.
Dinner rack of lamb sprouts and cauliflower with butter, then a bit more sprouts and cauliflower.

Week 3 - Spring Low Carb Bootcamp - To B or to BC, that is the question!
Veryflummoxed · 22/02/2017 19:21

Belly pork. I know no one called Kirk.

CaptainBraandPants · 22/02/2017 19:26

Phew, that's a relief Very. I was about to call the police Grin
Love the picture of the lamb chops, DH isn't keen on lamb but I think I could sneak a couple of those passed him.

Been lurking for a while and joining in late. Been gradually cutting carbs last few weeks and Day One of bootcamp today

Starting weight 13'12
Target weight 12'

B 6 rashers streaky bacon
L tin of tuna, 1 tbs full fat mayo, 6 sticks celery
D roast gammon, one roast carrot, leeks and brocolli cooked in butter, cream and cheese

Snacks - 1 brazil nut, 1 BPC

Now just got to keep going til bed time! How does that look to anyone with more experience?

SummerSazz · 22/02/2017 20:25

Staying on the straight and narrow here 😊

L: Halloumi and grilled asparagus salad drizzled with basil oil
S: 3 slices chorizo
D: Low carb sausages, kale and coleslaw. FF yog and a few raspberries

I'm still drinking tea but only have a tiny dash of milk. I couldn't have a WOE without builders tea.

Walk and Level 1 shred today plus 2.5hrs gardening. My fitbit reports 138 active minutes!

nekobus · 22/02/2017 21:24

On the straight and narrow here to! (Phew! Grin)

B - leftover meatballs, LC mayo, 2 coffees and cream (needed the caffeine to cope with half term activities!)
L - ham eggs and salad (pub lunch, swapped chips for salad)
D - leftover butter chicken and cauli rice. Love this!
S - a few slices of chorizo with boursin
Water - 2.5L

Avoided lots of junk like ice cream and chocolates which others were having. Feels good to have resisted Smile

explodingkittens · 22/02/2017 21:45

Two coffees with cream and a couple of cups of strong tea (I don't take much milk in it). I know I need to drink more water though.

Lunch was salad with tuna mayo and avocado
Dinner was chilli with spinach instead of rice
Half a bag of pork scratchings
2 squares of 80% chocolate just now

Only been back LCing since Monday and already have more energy and feel less bloated. I love this feeling.

BIWI · 22/02/2017 23:15

Ronniesleaddress - welcome!

Your diet is OK-ish. You'd do better to avoid the carrot, and nuts aren't OK on Bootcamp (although you were very restrained to only eat 1!!!) But also be aware that you've had bacon and gammon, which are both processed meats - you'd be better off restricting these.

B: Greek yoghurt with a couple of strawberries and some vanilla paste.
L: braved some more crackslaw as I didn't have time to prep anything else. I haven't had a violent reaction so yesterday must have been down to something else (probably all the black coffee)
D: courgette and halloumi muffin thingies with cucumber salad with lots of olive oil.
S: dark choc and some hazelnuts.

Managed all the water but felt far too exhausted to brave the gym. I think the carb heavy breakfast was a mistake, it was too sweet and triggered cravings for the dark choc I ate in the evening. I ate more than I intended to and it wasn't because I was hungry! I'm terrified of falling back into old habits of bingeing so I've told DH that we can't keep any in the house.

playmobilpeacock · 23/02/2017 07:59

Good morning all.

Yesterday was an ok day but I did have a small glass of wine.
B- coffee with cream
L- cheese omelette with coleslaw and salad.
S- wine at friend's house
D- a few spoonfuls of cauliflower cheese at 10pm

It's amazing how much my appetite is reduced. It shows how much eating is from habit rather than hunger.

I'm sorry the magnesium didn't work for you wombatoo. You could try a hot bath with Epsom salts?

Today's food:

B- coffee with cream
L- cauliflower cheese
D- chicken stew and green veg

KOKO Smile

Hesdeadjim · 23/02/2017 08:40

Morning :)

So I haven't pooped for 6 days and it's all getting a bit desperate Blush sent DP out for laxatives today so will hopefully be sorted soon.

I'm tired today, first time in a week or so but I think AF is due this week so that might be why.

Anyone else a lot more productive at work? I'm getting through bags more work than I did before BC and not really sure why, I don't feel much different.. maybe slightly more awake?

Imissmy0ldusername · 23/02/2017 09:40

Hesdeadjim I don't get the post lunch slump I used to get, and because I'm sleeping better, I'm remembering things better at work.

We are having a late lunch with work today at a restaurant, which I think should be ok on the choice front, as the menu is pretty diverse.

B: coffee & cream
L: salad leaves, egg, olives, mozzarella
D: not sure yet

CaptainBraandPants · 23/02/2017 10:19

Morning all.
Good luck with the pooping! I think BIWI mentions the sugar free Thornton's toffee if you are desperate as it has quite a marked laxative effect. Grin

Hesdead I agree with Imiss, I no longer get the post lunch slump, either.
Loved the belly pork last night, think I could have it every day. DS1 has already requested it for this weekend as we don't eat with the DC in the week and he was jealous of the lovely crackling.
Also had some frozen berries with cream as a treat.

Today's plan is:
B - 2x creamy coffee
L - frittata with green salad
D - chilli with cauli rice

I've got the chilli out of the freezer and I think it may have kidney beans in it, so I'll have to pick them out. Haven't got much else in until I go shopping tomorrow.
I'm full of cold at the mo, but feeling ok and staying away from those carbs. I think this is the longest I have LCed for without falling off the wagon and I don't want to fail now.

Musicianofbremen · 23/02/2017 10:46

Oh no he'sdead Confused hope you get some movement soon. Think of the weight loss.

I am definitely more productive at work if nothing else because I am not making endless cups of tea.

B:berries and ricotta
Brunch: scrambled eggs
Lunch: out (hopefully salad)
D: roast chicken, asparagus and broccoli.

Hesdeadjim · 23/02/2017 12:45

Has anyone seen this? Fabulous lecture on LCHF, i've watched it over lunch munching on my avacado salad, feeling rather smug Grin

StuntNun · 23/02/2017 13:00

DH is feeling down so I'm planning a sneaky low carb feast for tonight. We're going to have mixed olives and salted almonds for appetisers then mussels in garlic butter for a starter. The main sea bream stuffed with feta with a side of samphire in butter with salt crystals. Dessert is going to be strawberries and total yogurt mixed with double cream and vanilla bean powder. If he's still hungry after that lot then I have applewood cheddar, Brie and Roquefort for a cheese course. Does that sound sufficiently cheering-up-worthy?

imustbepatient · 23/02/2017 13:07

Afternoon all, would it be ok for me to join in? I've been lurking more or less since the start and following along. Probably best I actually dive on into the threads and properly commit myself!

I have just had a seriously nice lunch of prawns, cucumber, raw sauerkraut, mozzarella and tomato salad with loads of HM tarragon mayo. So filling and not too carby on the tomato front as I've already plugged in my planned dinner of pork belly and LC vege and I still come in at 16g of carb for the day.

I know carb counting isn't needed on this fab BC but I just want to keep an eye on it as quite frankly after about 20 years of bloody stupid dieting I've stuffed my insulin resistance and have noticed I definitely fall in the group of people who are really sensitive to carbs.

I've been low carbing for a fair while (after being in a BC years ago) but still have a good chunk of weight to lose. I tend to get less strict as time goes on so joining in this BC is going to make me refocus and notice what I am eating, rather than kidding myself that I'm low carbing when I'm probably not, or at least not as fully as I need to.

I've also recently read Jason Fung's Obesity Code which resonated so much. I'll be throwing in some intermittent fasts here and there, now that my appetite is decreasing (woohoo!) and I'm in the BC swing of things.

You lot are all so inspiring, reading your posts has really helped me get focused again, at last. Thanks all Flowers

stealtheatingtunnocks · 23/02/2017 13:42

Thanks for the jobbie tips, folks.

Am drinking so much water that I am diluted. Didn't know about magnesium and will find the husks. Aiming to release this poo hostage soon.

That's what a woosh is really, isn't it?

Aderyn2016 · 23/02/2017 13:47

Doing okay here. Had a burger and fried mushrooms and spring onions for bf and a couple of creamy coffees.
Starting to get hungry again now though.

Ronniesleaddress · 23/02/2017 14:12

Thanks BIWI - the brazil nut was a work related taster....I'm a chef so it's going to be hard at times to taste things but done ok last 2 days

So today, bearing in mind the advice...

B - Coffee with cream x 2 (finding it hard to cut down on this
L - 2 egg omlette with cheddar
D - home-made beefburger, guacomole, salad, bacon and halloumi or mayo (not put that into MFP yet to carb check)

Also bought some Stevia and Total yoghurt. Not sure if sweetener is allowed so only had one tsp so far...are we allowed strawberries or other berries? Seen them mentioned a few times!

Already down to 13'11 which is a massive incentive to keep going. Fouond some 0% carb frankfurter sausages in the co-op two packs for £4....amazing!

maggiso · 23/02/2017 15:31

Heisdead - that lecture was interesting- thanks.
I am going to attempt a modified courgette lasagna tonight- as I am making butternut lasagna for the boys. Not sure it will work, but will report back if its OK. Personally I prefer butternut lasagna to the traditional one but its too carby for BC.
I messed up this morning and forgot breakfast (rushed out - I'm still on week one) - only having tea with a splash of milk, then water later and some chicken soup.. Lunch was mushrooms, egg and bacon.
I changed to LCHF two years ago but have like others slipped back into eating more carbs - so need a stricter time to get me back on the straight and narrow. Stuntnun that dinner sounds lovely.
