Here's the Spreadsheet for you to confess all!

I hope that you've seen good results, and that they have convinced you that this WOE works - if you weren't already convinced, of course Grin

Here's to a good second week. Hopefully all of you suffering from carb flu will be through that now, and will be feeling much more energised.

Good luck to all Flowers

Not totally sure what the etiquette on here is yet but I'm assuming I can say 'thank you' to you both. Sometimes my day is made because I happen across nice people. Today is one of those days. Will try the cheese sauce this weekend.

wombattoo · 17/02/2017 22:26

Of course you can say that. We are usually very relaxed on here and don't follow any etiquette. If you look back through the thread, veryflummoxed often posts pictures of her meals and they always look delicious.
There will be more posters along tomorrow who will be able to help. I very rarely eat sauces.

dementedma · 17/02/2017 22:53

Thanks you all and apologies for being a bad tempered rat bag!! Blush

wombattoo · 17/02/2017 23:15

Aw (( )) hugs demented. See ya tomorrow

Can I just ask a silly question?

Is the main reason this diet works because your calories are naturally less as the fat keeps you full longer?

Or is there some other magical body magical that happens because you are cutting out carbs- apart from the water loss that is because I assume at some point you have to lose some actual fat.

mrwalkensir · 18/02/2017 00:06

Popsicle - both 😀 Can remember in o level biology at school. The metabolic breakdown of fat took energy whereas sugar didn't. When I asked if this meant that effectively fat was less calorific than the equivalent in sugar I was told don't be silly all calories are the same...

snowdonstreet · 18/02/2017 06:56

Hello I'm back! I stopped this as my depression kicked in really badly. Feeling well again now though and starting today. I have still lost 3lbs so I put that in last weeks weight loss. Just hoping my mental health was no connection and I don't go downhill so fast again as it was really scary. I've been on meds for years and rarely have any problems.

Well done all on your weight losses, very encouraging

StuntNun · 18/02/2017 07:44

I'm another one that had a bad day yesterday. I succumbed to two glasses of wine so not the biggest fail but not a great move either. So I won't complain if the scales haven't budged on Monday. In my opinion the most important thing is to pick yourself up and climb back on the wagon. Hope you're with me Dementedma.

Imiss I practically lived on pork belly when I had to give up dairy and eggs while breastfeeding my DS4 who has allergies. It was getting a bit embarrassing every time I went to Lidl. As it's pure protein and fat it's pretty hard to overeat it. You would probably feel very queasy if you did.

Down try and find a few easy recipes that you can cook over and over again at first, or batch cook. Then you can gradually expand your repertoire as time goes on. There's no harm in having the same breakfast and lunch every day at the beginning. If in doubt, pour melted butter on it. Butter goes with most foods, some people even put it in their coffee!

BIWI · 18/02/2017 07:58

@PopsicleBopsicle

Is the main reason this diet works because your calories are naturally less as the fat keeps you full longer?

You may find that you're eating fewer calories, but it's not so much about calories - as not all calories are equal! Your calories from carbohydrate will have more of an impact on your biochemistry than the same number of
calories from fat - because carbohydrate results in an insulin release which (simplistically) results in laying down of fat. Whereas dietary fat, i.e. the fat that you eat, doesn't produce the release of insulin, so will not lead to the laying down of fat.

Or is there some other magical body magical that happens because you are cutting out carbs- apart from the water loss that is because I assume at some point you have to lose some actual fat.

It's not magical, but what happens when you seriously curb the carbs is that you switch your body from using them for fuel to using your body fat for fuel.

You will have started losing weight from the very first week. The first week of a strict low carbohydrate diet often sees a significant loss (as many have seen on this Bootcamp). This loss is water, the using up of the energy from carbs that has been stored as glycogen in your liver/muscles, and a little bit of fat. From there on, it's the fat that continues to be burnt, and therefore you're losing weight.

@Downbutnotout - one of my favourite meals also happens to be one of the easiest!

Sausages and roasted vegetables.

Brown some low carb sausages (The Black Farmer ones are really good, but most supermarket premium brands are low in carbs; always check the back of the pack, but you're looking for very high meat content sausages. They should be less than 2g carbs per sausage)

Then cut up some low carb veg into chunks - or example, shallots, leeks, fennel, courgettes, cauliflower, and add a red or yellow pepper into the mix as well. If you like you can chuck in a chopped chilli and some garlic cloves.

Put the sausages and the chopped veg into a roasting tray.

Season well with salt and pepper , then drizzle very generously with olive oil.

Roast in a hot oven for 20 minutes; take it out and stir it all round, then turn the oven down to medium and roast for another 20 minutes until things are nicely cooked and starting to char.

StuntNun Dairy and eggs? Shock That's an adjustment that takes a bit of work! I've got a friend who is lactose intolerant. I invited her over for dinner, and made her a creamy pud using soya milk. She'd been so used to just having a bit of fruit that she ate all 4 puds all by herself Grin I've no idea where she put them, as she's tiny - must have hollow legs.

Great news on the pork belly front - I seem to be living on pork belly & chicken thighs. I'll pick up one of those MASSIVE turkey legs in Tescos so I've got some variety on the lunch front (I can't have leftover kebabs and moussaka every day - that would be nuts!). I can understand people saying this is an expensive WOE, as last week I went on an M&S bender, spending a small fortune, but now I've got into it, I think I could manage this WOE on a smaller budget than I had previously.

I'm currently enjoying the peace and quiet of my block of flats at this time in the morning - all the shift workers have gone to work, and none of the kids are up. The birds are chirruping, and there's a nice breeze coming in. I'm still in bed, having had a good sleep, and I can honestly say that I don't think I've been this chilled and feeling so good of a weekend in the best part of 10 years.

Onwards & downwards fellow Bootcampers!

mistywillow17 · 18/02/2017 09:06

Morning all. I can't believe it - I'm wearing my pre-pregnancy jeans for the first time in years. I definitely couldn't get into them last week! The scales haven't moved much since last week (I've struggled with water consumption over the past couple of days which can't have helped) but I FEEL so much better.

Found out last night that we've been invited to PILs for dinner today, cue a hasty phone call to explain the diet - MIL is a star and is doing a roast with lots of green veg, so I should be able to manage just fine.

Hope everyone's doing ok - I've never stuck to anything like I have to this, and I can't believe how much better I feel already (even if the bastard scales seem to be a bit stuck.)

StuntNun · 18/02/2017 09:18

Imiss turkey is very low fat so not ideal for this way of eating. I save money by buying cheaper meats such as chicken drumsticks and stocking up when meat is half price although I do have a freezer big enough to hide a body in. Frozen veg are another way to save money although some are better than others. Giving up dairy and eggs for over a year while still eating low carb did end up pretty monotonous. DS4 is also allergic to soya and coconut so I had a very limited diet and managed to get scurvy which is just bizarre in this day and age. Apparently you can get scurvy from a sudden drop in vitamin C intake, not just from too little vitamin C in your diet. So in my case it was caused by a combination of breastfeeding and running out of my breastfeeding vitamins. The doctor had never seen a case of scurvy before.

CaptainBraandPants · 18/02/2017 09:30

Checking in from sunny Center Parcs.
Our trip didn't start quite to land yesterday as DS1 woke up unwell with a temperature of 38.3. As he is 15, he doesn't like getting out of bed at the best of times, but there was no shifting him yesterday. So, we left him behind! ShockGrin before you all think what horrible parents we are, it isn't quite as bad as it seems. MIL is dog sitting, so she's keeping an eye on him, too and he slept at hers last night. Latest update this morning is that he still feels crap, but better than yesterday. I am hopeful that we will be able to go and pick him up later today to join us.
On the plus side, DS2&3 are enjoying not having him here. DS1 managed to baggsy the room with the double bed and DS3 said it's quieter without him he's right.
Anyway, had an active day of cycling and going down the rapids a million times, so should help.
Food wise, had a Mexican omelette for lunch - without the nachos. I think it was a good choice for eating out and it was lovely and very filling. I did look rather longingly at DS3's ultimate chocolate waffle, though.
Dinner was a Caesar salad and yes, I did eat the croutons. I think it was the best option available though. I managed to resist the cookies.
Off to the pool again shortly.
Sorry for the long post, I'm not used to having this much time to relax. Smile
Hope everyone has a good, low carb weekend.

SayrraT · 18/02/2017 10:01

In all the time I've been LCing I've never tried the bacon and egg muffins. OMG, they are delicious! I had them for breakfast yesterday and today.

Yesterday's Food

B: bacon and egg muffins (x2), coffee with cream
L: the fridge was bare so I just ate pate with a spoon
D: burger in a lettuce wrap

mrwalkensir · 18/02/2017 10:31

Bemused to wake up this morning looking forward to ff yoghurt for breakfast and asparagus for lunch ie back on the wagon. Not meant to enjoy diets for goodness sake!

wombattoo · 18/02/2017 11:43

I have never tried the muffins either. I might give them a go some time.
misty I often post on the threads for people not to get too disheartened if the scales don't move, but to judge by clothes. I had a long period where the scales only moved by a couple of pounds. I stuck with it and somehow went down a dress size. Tis sorcery Grin

playmobilpeacock · 18/02/2017 12:25

Good to hear you're feeling better snowdon

I slept for 12 hours last night! With very vivid dreams too. The last time I had dreams like this was when I quit smoking.

I'm going out for dinner later so I checked the menu online and I'm hopefully going for garlic mushrooms for a starter and steak with herb butter and salad as a main.

It gorgeous weather here today and I'm full of energy so I'm going to tackle our disgusting utility room.

I hope everyone has a good day.

mrwalkensir · 18/02/2017 12:33

lovely here too playmobilpeacock - lambs out in the fields 'n' everything

beachestoexplore · 18/02/2017 13:32

A lurker here with a quick question. Is a whole avacado filled with prawns and drizzled with vinagarette dressing acceptable for breakfast? It was delicious by the way Grin

BIWI · 18/02/2017 13:54

It is indeed!

beachestoexplore · 18/02/2017 14:04

Music to my ears!! That is a new favourite Grin. Thanks BIWI

BursarsFrogs · 18/02/2017 15:17

Not a huge appetite today, but otherwise feeling fine.

B: Some Greek yogurt and an avocado.
L: Just had coffee with a bit of milk. (I've been stuck in hospital and had nothing with me, and not hungry).
D: Will hopefully be a salmon fillet with a creamy sauce, some salad leaves, and maybe some buttery cauliflower.

Imissmy0ldusername · 18/02/2017 15:21

StuntNun - I took your advice and swerved the giant turkey leg. Lucky for me, there was a shedload of fatty meats in the Reduced section - it turned out that they were short staffed on the meat counter, so they were madly yellow stickering everything to avoid backlogs at the counter or something.

So I now have a freezer full of lamb neck, pork and lamb shoulder, a free range chicken, and yet more pork belly! I've plonked a shedload of beef skirt in the slow cooker with some garlic butter, a shallot, a leek, loads of mushrooms and some bovril. I've added some smoked paprika, and when it's all soft, I'll add some cream cheese. It will be awesome, and I'll serve it with some roast courgette.
