Starting today - low carb

Right it's time to get back in the low carb saddle. I basically follow boot camp rules. That works very well for me. I find getting into ketosis hard so making my public declaration of intent here. Planning to weigh and measure shortly.

So I'm starting today. Whingeing about carb flu all the way. Join me

Starting again one week post birth. It worked last time so hopefully should work again.

Not exactly sure of current weight but was 200lbs just before DD was born. Need to get back to fighting weight of 137lbs.

Plan on general low carbing, will try bootcamp lite probably then join BIWI'S bootcamp on Feb 6th.

I usually include lentils and squash even when low carbing, one portion per day roughly of each. Loads of veg, protein, fat and water. This with lots of walking really works. Looking forward to seeing results!

Duck confit salad for supper with olive oil pine nut dressing Smile

NotdeadyetBOING · 13/01/2017 21:49

Ooo - ham and egg muffins look fab. Will try them!

Feel I rather over-ate tonight, but none of the things I ate were banned so maybe that's ok…..

Aderyn2016 · 13/01/2017 22:14

So today I've eaten cloudbeead with tuna mayo and rocket and a slice of smoked cheese for breakfast.
Lunch was cloudbread and cheese and dinner was cajun chicken with celeriac chips.
Also bought flax meal and ground almonds so I can make that low carb bread tomorrow.
Am doing okay but need to up the water intake, I think.

thenightsky · 14/01/2017 00:07

So, that flax meal/almond bread looks amazing, but how much does 'a cup' weight? Confused

CaptainBraandPants · 14/01/2017 10:27

Morning all, just catching up.
Another question about the flax meal/ almond bread - I put the ingredients into MFP and it looks as if a whole loaf is about 50g carb. How many servings would you say there are per loaf, please Chester It sounds great, but I don't want to end up binging on a whole loaf!
nightsky I can't remember, but Ihave some cups at home and I'll check later, if someone hasn't already answered the question.

Had an almost-blip yesterday. Had a light, early lunch as I wasn't hungry for anything else and had to drive to a meeting. Then, when I drove back need to stop for petrol and was very, very tempted by the petrol station goodies. I know this is because I hadn't eaten enough earlier in the day. Crisis averted by going into a nearby M&S and getting some salted almonds. I probably ate too many of them, but much better than the alternative.
Had an absolutely yummy chicken carbonara with courgetti for dinner.

MrsKoala · 14/01/2017 10:40

Morning all. I was so tired yesterday, the dc were up the night before and dd1 must be having a growth spurt as she is on the boob constantly thru the night. Almost had a chocolate cookie, but managed to resist and I'm glad I did because I woke this morning feeling noticeably flatter on the tummy. I weighed myself and IVE LOST 6lb!! In just 5 days.

I now have renewed motivation and feel better - despite another crappy night.

Had sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs and fried leeks and mushrooms for breakfast. Got broccoli and Stilton soup for lunch and a takeaway curry tonight. I think I'll go with the pp suggestion of shashlik and paneer and spinach (not tried that before).

Koko everyone.

ChesterDrawers · 14/01/2017 11:55

Wow, well done MrsK, 6lb is amazing! And we'll done for avoiding the cookie too, great willpower.

Same to you Captain, petrol stations are a total minefield. I always try to use the pay at pump thingy but I did go through a stage of telling myself that if that wasn't working and I had to go in, it was a sign to buy shite! And I wonder why I'm fat?

The loaf, I only ever slice it thin, less than a centimetre. Because of the flax it's very filling so not really something you could binge on. I normally only have a couple of slices so I'd be surprised if that was more than 5g. 50g is a lot though so I will keep an eye on my portion sizes from now on.

Just had an amazingly lovely brunch of bacon and mushrooms fried in butter, and eggs scrambled with butter and cream. Oh and a coffee with coconut milk in. All felt very decadent and satisfying. Hoping that will put me on til tea, DH's slow cooked Malaysian beef curry (hence the coconut milk) and cauli rice. Yum!

Did succumb to a gin and slim and one glass of red wine last night but compared to my usual Friday night indulgences that positively saintly. Will probs have another glass, to finish the bottle, later but only the one.

DearPrudence · 14/01/2017 12:55

There's nothing like a good loss to boost the motivation - well done MrsK

Brunch today is a frittata with leeks, bacon and cheese, which I had with fried mushrooms, lettuce and mayo. DH is making a chicken bhuna for dinner.

ClopySow · 14/01/2017 14:18

Wine. Bloody bastard diet ruining wine.

ChesterDrawers · 14/01/2017 16:22

Back on it Cloppy, don't let the Wine get you down.

CaptainBraandPants · 14/01/2017 17:42

Well done Mrskoala, that's a fab loss.
clopy forget the wine, it's in the past now. Concentrate on all the lovely food you can have going forward.
Not eaten much today as been rushing around busy. Also went for a short, slow run.
Beef burgers, hm mayo and salad tonight. I'm looking forward to my roast tomorrow with pork and lots of lovely crackling

BetsyM00 · 14/01/2017 18:00

Just got the low carb bread in the oven. Captain - check the packets rather than use MFP. The flaxseed I have is 3g carbs per 100g and the ground almonds are 6.9g carbs per 100g.

I used 1 cup = 165g of flaxseed and 0.5 cup = 60g of ground almonds in the recipe. So the whole loaf is less than 10g carbs.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

BetsyM00 · 14/01/2017 19:00

Loaf was lovely. Had a couple of slices with mayo, warm roast chicken and buttered leeks piled high. It worked out as 0.8g carbs per slice.

Aderyn2016 · 14/01/2017 19:11

Very cream heavy day today. Is this okay?
Had slice of cloudbread with a chink of brie for breakfast, small bowl of strawberries and cream for lunch. Have had about 4 small creamy coffees today and for dinner, ostrich steak and celeriac gratin made with, you guessed it, cream. There was some veg in there some green pepper and onion.

ChesterDrawers · 14/01/2017 22:11

Just keep an eye Aderyn, dairy stalls some people. You might be lucky but if the scales don't budge and you are doing everything else right, it's usually the culprit. So much of LC is dependent on the individual, but I really enjoy that side of it, learning about my own body rather than some diet guru or other!

I've been a bit heavy on the dairy today too. Cream in my eggs this morning and four Babybels Blush this afternoon. I had missed lunch, but even so... I had a small glass of red this eve too which I really enjoyed. I won't lie and say it was enough, but as it was the last of the bottle the choice was really out of my hands.

thenightsky · 14/01/2017 22:25

BetsyM00 Thank you for the flax bread weight.... will try that tomorrow.

Today was good.

Creamy coffee and baby bel or breakfast.

Curried cauliflower soup for lunch (from the recipe thread)
Salmon baked with butter and pile of broccoli for dinner.

Snacks - 6 olives.

Now just had 2 vodka and sodas.

thenightsky · 14/01/2017 22:26

Oh... and I ran 2.5 miles.

And I'm now 6lb down from starting weight

Grin
Aderyn2016 · 14/01/2017 22:38

Thanks Chester. Am not weighing myself as I tend to get demoralised if nothing happens for a while. Am going to judge by how my clothes fit.
Will stay off the cream tomorrow. Am going shopping so will stock up on veg.

ChesterDrawers · 15/01/2017 09:21

I've got a flax loaf in the oven now and weighed the ingredients. My cup of flax only weighed 110g so roughly 6g carbs for the whole thing. I think I remember reading flax can stall some people though so maybe don't go mad. That said, I am going to have some with butter, avocado and crispy bacon in a bit - yum!

Today's food will be:
Brunch: as above
D: slow cooked pulled pork, HM coleslaw, swede cubes roasted in garlic and rosemary olive oil, big dollop of mayo

Will probs have a BPC either this aft or this eve to up the fat.

CaptainBraandPants · 15/01/2017 09:25

Thanks Betsy that's interesting to know. Think I'll need to give that recipe a go.
I'm 1.6lbs down this week, which means I'm 8lbs down in two weeks. I'm really pleased with that Smile
Well done on the run thenight I've restarted c25k, but still mostly at the walking stage at the moment.
Aderyne I agree about the dairy. I try to stick to 2 creamy coffees a day and then small amount in cooking.
Plan for today is:
B: creamy coffee x2-3
L: scrambled eggs and smoked salmon
D: roast pork, with lots of lovely crackling, various veg and mashed cauliflower.

NameChanger22 · 15/01/2017 09:37

Hi

I've been low carbing since 1 January. I'm not weighing myself because I find a lack of weight loss can ruin a good diet. I would like to loose 2 dress sizes.

I'm vegetarian and my favourite food is quiche with jacket potato and salad. Yesterday I made vegetarian quiche as follows:

3/4 cup of ground almonds
1/2 cup of grated parmesan
1/8 pack of soft butter
Oregano

I mixed these ingredients together to make the pastry and pressed them into 8 small individual quiche foils. I blind-baked them for about 15 minutes until golden.

I filled them with fried garlic mushrooms, veggi bacon and egg mixed with a bit of double cream. There was no need to put cheese on the top as the pastry is cheesy.

I ate 2 of them with a really nice salad and it was delicious. I'm just working on how to make a carb free jacket potato now Grin.

For lunch I had fried tofu and vegetable katsu curry. Breakfast was scrambled eggs and tomato.

CaptainBraandPants · 15/01/2017 09:40

Welcome Name that quiche sounds lovely. I tend to just do a crust-less quiche, but I fancy trying that for a treat.
Good luck with finding a LC jacket potato Grin

NameChanger22 · 15/01/2017 09:43

Thanks. I was really missing quiche. I did worry a bit that ground almonds are relatively high in carbs, but it did make a nice treat and the pastry tasted really rich and better than normal pastry.

I think I can probably mash a cauliflower with cheese and pretend it's jacket potato.

ChesterDrawers · 15/01/2017 10:14

Welcome Name, your quiche sounds lovely. I have just weighed half a cup of ground almonds and it works out at about 3G carbs, so I doubt each of your quiches amounted to 1g. As long as you're not scoffing the lot, I'd say they are fine for BC light.

ChesterDrawers · 15/01/2017 10:16

And here is a LC potato skim recipe. I've never made it but it's on my list of things to try.
