Starting today - low carb

Right it's time to get back in the low carb saddle. I basically follow boot camp rules. That works very well for me. I find getting into ketosis hard so making my public declaration of intent here. Planning to weigh and measure shortly.

So I'm starting today. Whingeing about carb flu all the way. Join me

Does anyone have a low carb gravy recipe? Doing a roast today and need some way of thickening the gravy!!

BIWI · 04/02/2017 11:26

Why do you need to thicken it?

Change your mindset, so that you're serving a 'jus'! Just as tasty as gravy, but a thinner texture.

Add some water from any vegetables you've boiled to your roasting pan, perhaps with a sloosh of wine (go steady as there will still be carbs in this), or perhaps add some extra stock - stir it all well together, scraping up the bits on the bottom of the roasting tray, and it will be just as lovely.

If you're roasting a chicken, I always put it into roast with a good half litre of water in the bottom of the roasting dish, sometimes the juice of a lemon or two, and plenty of olive oil and seasoning on the top of the chicken, and it makes a lovely gravy.

I haven't lost any weight this week which is a bit disappointing. However I think week 3 can be a bit like that and hopefully things will move when I start bootcamp again on Monday.

B. FF yogurt, strawberries, blueberries and coffee with cream
L. Chicken, green salad, half avocado, mayo. Tea with soya milk.
D. Pork chop, cauliflower cheese, spring greens with butter.

Kronutpearl · 04/02/2017 15:48

No I can't stand "jus". I've done an alternative sauce with double cream instead.

thenightsky · 04/02/2017 17:17

I've done this broccoli and stilton soup twice now and its amazing!

Don't use 150g of stilton though like I did the first time... it blows your head off! I used just less than 100mg on my second attempt and it was perfect.

BIWI · 04/02/2017 18:01

If it isn't already, can you put that on the recipe thread, thenightsky?

Flibbertyjibbit · 04/02/2017 23:05

Starting to feel settled with my new w.o.e. have lost just over 4lbs this week (15lbs total lost now). Added in a small bowl of raspberries & double cream today as I had been strictly following bootcamp rules up till now. Thought i would have a couple of days relaxed before bootcamp on Monday.

Soup sounds amazing thenightsky thanks for sharing.

I too am embarking on low carb as of today. Keep starting then failing. Ive got about 4kg to lose which is just over half a stone. Ive already lost 12kg since my last baby was born (he's nearly 2) and trying and failing to lose last of baby weight. Hopefully this forum will help me back on track.

BIWI · 05/02/2017 10:40

Welcome! Half a stone should be easily doable (as long as you follow Bootcamp rules of course Grin)

NameChanger22 · 05/02/2017 14:05

I'm still going, although it is getting a bit boring, I need to try more recipes. I think I have a little bit more energy now than when I started (not when I exercise though) and I've probably lost around 7 pounds since 1 January; although that is just a guess because I don't weigh myself. Unfortunately I lose weight very slowly because of dieting so much in the past, because I'm quite old and because I sit down all day at work.

Veryflummoxed · 05/02/2017 14:45

Re breakfast, you are right BIWI

BIWI · 05/02/2017 20:30

Week 1 chat thread is here

chatnanny · 06/02/2017 09:22

I have had a strange 10 days including a life threatening medical emergency with my DC (adult) and have slipped off the wagon especially with wine. I am back on track this morning though and I don't think there has been too much damage (I'm not a weigher) as I have actually lost my appetite so been on an alternative stress diet. Just had my haloumi and tomato breakfast and black loose leaf tea so am starting well today.

BIWI · 06/02/2017 13:39

Oh goodness! I don't think anyone would blame you for falling off the wagon. I hope all is well now?

MiniCooperLover · 07/02/2017 13:04

Breakfast was some FF Greek yoghurt with a dash of double cream and some raspberries.

Lunch has just been a 2 egg omelette cooked in butter with cheese and some salad leaves, FF mayo and olive oil.

Dinner will be a pork chop cooked in Coconut oil, plus a helping of cauliflower cheese.

Plus lots of water 👍
