Starting today - low carb

Right it's time to get back in the low carb saddle. I basically follow boot camp rules. That works very well for me. I find getting into ketosis hard so making my public declaration of intent here. Planning to weigh and measure shortly.

So I'm starting today. Whingeing about carb flu all the way. Join me

I sort of started yesterday, but had too much fruit. I did go food shopping so the house has more things I can eat and fewer carbs. Made a big batch of chicken, leek, carrot and swede soup.
Then dh came home with a big hamper of Christmas treats he got given and I blew it by eating some chocolate. Am sending the rest back to uni with ds, so it 8)isn't in the house!

Hello all, I started on Tuesday (after a reasonable loss of 10lb a couple of summers ago), I have 3st to lose. I'm enjoying lots of creamy scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, salads with avocado, cheese, olive oil and mayo, pork chops in coconut oil with greens and today I'm going to have a burger with salad for lunch and dinner will be prawns with something but not quite sure yet (prob more salad) Grin I usually have some mayo on the side, drizzles of olive oil, using coconut oil and butter to cook. Plus lots and lots of water. Does that sound ok so far?

NotdeadyetBOING · 06/01/2017 09:08

Morning all. I am easing myself back in after major December and maybe also November over indulgence. Have put on a stone and it needs to go. Have had a protein shake with almond milk plus creamy coffee this morning and planning avocado, mayo and salad for lunch. DH is doing roast chicken for supper so will just leave the roast potatoes. Felt a bit rubbish yesterday and then remembered how much water I am supposed to be drinking which is probably why. Good luck everyone. Helps listening to what others are eating too for inspiration. I can get bored/stuck. Only so many eggs anyone can stomach.

lisbapalea · 06/01/2017 12:55

Got very excited at the work canteen today to see some LC friendly hot food (am very bored of the salad option), so have got gammon with braised cabbage! Trouble is the gammon is like cardboard, but I am muddling through.....

CaptainBraandPants · 06/01/2017 15:07

MiniCooperLover that sounds lovely. And on a completely separate note, I'm just about to get rid of my lovely mini as my DC have got too big for it Sad
I'm feeling tired today, don't know whether it's the woe or just back at work lethargy. I'm working unexpectedly this weekend to cover a colleagues illness, so hope it's fairly quiet and stay on track.
Had creamy coffee x3 Blush and then leftover courgette bol for lunch (yummy)
Steak with peppercorn sauce and creamed spinach and roasted veg tonight.

Definitely heading into Ketosis now, vile breath, achey burney muscles when I exert myself and cracking headache this afternoon that sent me to bed for an hour until the painkillers kicked in.

I'm not hungry but I'm such a grazer by habit and preference it is really, really psychologically difficult to not eat (even though I feel full Confused). I have such a bad relationship with food. I don't like big meals (never had) but would happily pick all day long if I could.

GuinefortGrey · 06/01/2017 17:36

And I've just made the mistake of reading the peanut butter thread and now all I can think about is all the delicious carbtastic things I could be eating peanut butter on Blush. Note to self - stick to the low carb forums for the time being!

Would a spoonful of PB be ok???

NotdeadyetBOING · 06/01/2017 18:08

I defer to those with greater LC wisdom, but my understanding is that nuts aren't a total disaster. Not allowed on bootcamp, but a spoon of it (assuming the sugar free variety) should be OK, no?

lottieandmia · 06/01/2017 18:28

Peanut butter is ok but I'm not sure if it is ok in phase 1. I'm avoiding nuts for at least 2 weeks.

I always eat a burger with a slice of fried tomato and a slice of cheese on the top and then some mayonnaise. I avoid bacon. It seems to make me feel unwell. I'm going to try coffee with cream in it again.

lottieandmia · 06/01/2017 18:29

Oh by the way the lowest carb peanut butter I found is in Sainsbury's. The crunchy one.

Bluntness100 · 06/01/2017 18:32

How big is s spoonful? If it's a teaspoon and your in induction uou can get away with it, a flat table spoon after, yes, that's fine too, the issue with peanut butter is people seldom stop at one spoonful.so it's best not to start.

CaptainBraandPants · 06/01/2017 18:37

Almond butter is better than peanut butter. Peanuts as a whole tend to be a no-no on BC proper. And full on BC is totally nut free for the first two weeks, then on BC lite you can have nuts in moderation.

I had to go and pick DC3 up from school early as he bumped his head, so didn't get chance to pick up steak, so plan B tonight: scrambled eggs, bacon, fried mushrooms and creamed spinach. Still yummy, but disappointed to miss my steak.

GuinefortGrey · 06/01/2017 20:14

Thanks captain for the info on nuts/nut butters. I managed to resist and went and had a bath instead! That's quite an achievement for me, but I've had a few wobbles today thinking "I can't do this", despite not actually feeling hungry. Need to sort my head out!

Hope your DC3 is ok and you can get your steak tomorrow Smile

GuinefortGrey · 06/01/2017 20:19

That's good to know lotti thank you I'll get some of that pb when we run out of our current pot.

Yes, Bluntness, that would definitely be my issue - not being able to stop at just the one tiny spoonful. Managed to resist earlier and the craving has passed... for now

thenightsky · 06/01/2017 20:59

Day 4 for me and no slip ups so far! Turned down homemade brownies, quality street and lindt chocs when they were passed around at work.

B - Creamy coffee and small lump of cheddar.
L - Tuna mayo with lettuce and cucumber
D - Flaxseed pancakes spread with ff Philly.
snacks - another cream coffee mid-afternoon and 2 brazil nuts.

Now Friday night is usually Prosecco night and I'm sat here sipping fizzy water and gritting my teeth. (must not crack, must not crack).

nekobus · 06/01/2017 21:41

Guine I made same mistake reading that thread and have been craving PB on granary toast Blush. I buy the 'pip & nut' almond butter squeeze pack things (one serving) which is better than sticking the spoon in the jar again and again!

I've managed my first week and it feels good. Today I was out and about but cafe did omelette with cheese and ham but I did have milk with my coffee (I usually take a little mini pot of cream in those systema dressing pots but forgot!)

B - 2 hb eggs and butter,
L - 3 egg omelette, ham, cheese, coffee & milk
D - butter chicken with courgetti (couldn't be arsed making cauli rice!)
S - almond butter pouch, chunk of brie

DearPrudence · 06/01/2017 22:56

Day 3 for me. Sticking to low carb but not finding it easy - yet. Feel like I'm eating a lot.

Cherrypi · 07/01/2017 06:59

Day three for me too. Lost 2.5 lbs overnight. Sure it's just water but still is motivating. Feeling a bit rough this morning. Greek yoghurt and cinnamon for breakfast I think.

lottieandmia · 07/01/2017 09:51

Day 4 here. I woke up really achey. Yesterday I managed to eat a bit more. My stomach feels so much better. I'm an ibs sufferer so I find low carbing helps.

I don't weigh myself at all because I get stressed about it. I tend to go by how my clothes are fitting.

Tartle · 07/01/2017 10:03

Hmm had a few haribo last night at the cinema (oops!) so ended up at about 80g of carbs but hopefully I can get back in to things today. Have a birthday party to go to though so it might be a challenge!

How was everyone's Friday night?

lottieandmia · 07/01/2017 12:23

I have found some silicilan lemon juice in the home baking section of Waitrose. It has 2 grams of carbs per 100ml. If you put a tiny bit at the bottom of a pint glass and then fill it up with water it tastes very nice. And you only need a tiny bit.

thenightsky · 07/01/2017 12:32

DH did the shopping this morning... he's come back with a massive french stick, all fresh and lovely. Sad

lottieandmia · 07/01/2017 14:14

Yep, the worst thing is when you feel like grabbing a biscuit. I have certain weaknesses. Cups of sugary tea. Dark chocolate digestives. Over Christmas I like all the fruity things like Christmas cake and Christmas pudding.

But it's worth low carbing when you start to feel the benefits I think. It's also an excuse for me not to be able to drink. In the past I have found that after 2 weeks I can drink a moderate amount of alcohol and still lose a lot. But I only drink Sauvignon blanc so not many carbs. Over Christmas I developed a worrying coke craving (the drink not the drug). I'm sure that did me no good.

thenightsky · 07/01/2017 16:07

I resisted the lovely fresh french stick, yay!! I kept my head down and ate my soup and desperately tried to ignore that mouth watering bread smell. It's all gone now, so no more temptation.

Fish pie tonight, made with garlic and herb Philly for the sauce and mashed cauliflower topping. Nice cheddar and parmesan grilled top that goes all chewy. Mmmm.

NotdeadyetBOING · 07/01/2017 16:45

Day 3 for me. Being good, but carb 'flu kicking in. Not fun. Went to gym but felt rather dizzy and pathetic….
