Starting today - low carb

Right it's time to get back in the low carb saddle. I basically follow boot camp rules. That works very well for me. I find getting into ketosis hard so making my public declaration of intent here. Planning to weigh and measure shortly.

So I'm starting today. Whingeing about carb flu all the way. Join me

lottie I also love watching my middle deflate. In terms of coffee I have mine with unsweetened soy milk. Less carbs than milk. No fat obviously but I'd rather eat some cheese or Greek yoghurt instead of cream. Except in the afternoon when sometimes I eat a coffee cream but it's almost a dessert Wink

Guy what about bullet proof coffee? Put 2 teaspoons of unsalted butter and 2 teaspoons of coconut oil into the black coffee and whisk it with a frother. It tastes a bit like a latte. It's not to everyone's taste.
I still use milk in my decaf tea but I only have one on a morning, and occasionally one in the evening, but not often.

Hello. I'm joining you all today 😊. I'm about to go and weigh myself (shudder) and it's going to be bad!

I am setting a target of losing 2 stone by Badminton weekend (beginning of May). I'd love to be able to treat myself to something from one of the posh stalls this year (instead of just my horses!). I've been feeling fat and frumpy for far too long and definitely got even fatter this past year. If I can meet that goal then maybe I can even begin to dream of being 12 stone by summer hols!

I am splashing out and have bought a months meals from "Natural Ketosis" so get me off to a good start. I don't have to plan or shop, I just eat what they send me. I've followed their diet before and the food is delicious so I know what to expect. First day done today and had forgotten how much I need to wee when I'm low carbing!!!

lottieandmia · 04/01/2017 19:55

That sounds brilliant (i.e. Ready low carb meals) is it very expensive?

lottieandmia · 04/01/2017 19:58

I've just had a look at it - very tempted to try it.

DearPrudence · 04/01/2017 21:32

Hello to the joiners.

I've done it. I stuck to it all day today. Had avocados for mid morning snack then sliced beef with lettuce and mayo for lunch. DH had cooked steak, so ended up having beef and lettuce again for dinner, with mayo and some fried leeks and shallots.

Looking forward to the 'carbs are irrelevant to me' stage - I like that phrase! Grin

GuinefortGrey · 04/01/2017 21:32

It is expensive but I managed to order when they had £25 off and they do seem to have offers fairly frequently. For me it is definitely worth it as I am a crap shopper/cook with zero self control!!!

CaptainBraandPants · 04/01/2017 21:40

Fourth day done and it's going well. I'm a coffee and cream girl. Two of those will do me for breakfast. I try to limit my coffee to just those two. If I have more, I try to have it black. Also I like fennel tea, so they're my hot drinks.
Had leftover beef curry and cauli rice for lunch, salmon fried in coconut oil with roasted veg and courgetti fried and swirled with cream cheese.
My meals are so much nicer when I'm LCing. Just need to still to it this time.

Aderyn2016 · 04/01/2017 21:44

Can I join. Have gastritis and dont want to keep taking omeprazole. Would prefer to fix it by changing my lifestyle. It was recommended to me on a thread I started about fixing the gastritis that I cut down on carbs. Am a big sugar eater so this will be difficult for me but I am fed up of feeling bloated so have to do something.

thenightsky · 04/01/2017 21:47

Signing in after getting on the scales yesterday morning... 11 stone 11lbs argh! I lost 2 stone about 3 years ago on one of BIWI's bootcamps. Its slowly crept on again this last year with Xmas and New Year adding a final insult of 7lbs on top!

So... today was my second day and I'm still waiting for the headache to kick in.

Liking the look of the Natural Ketosis programme because I'm crap at meal planning and up eating eggs, eggs and more eggs, then getting bored and dropping of the wagon.

nekobus · 04/01/2017 22:07

Hello, can I join you? Smile (re)started LC on Friday so I'm over the worst of it and managing to avoid the kids leftovers and the odd chocolates still lingering from Xmas.

I made a few big LC meals with leftovers - cottage pie with swede mash, curried cauli soup (from IPD cookbook) and a huge batch of butter chicken so have been living off those for past few days.

Tartle · 04/01/2017 22:12

Just got back from a horrible class at the gym and devoured half a chicken!

I have only had about 1000 calories today though and am totally stuffed so I guess it's working.

Do you all track calories on lchf or just eat til full? Fitbit thinks I have burnt 3500 cals and should eat another 1500 but that seems mad to me?

GuinefortGrey · 05/01/2017 10:10

Good start to the day! Lovely frosty walk with the dog after the school run and now home enjoying a decaf coffee with double cream. Feels and tastes so decadent!
I think I'm going to fry up some mushrooms with ghee to snack on during the day until I get into Ketosis and stop obsessing about food.

Finally weighed myself this morning. 14st9 Confused. I am aiming to get back to 12 before May. I've only ever achieved such a big loss once before about 7 years ago on a VLCD. I still remember the feeling of catching glimpses of myself in a mirror and not recognising the slim person in the reflection. It was such an amazing feeling, I'd love to experience it again. 11.5 - 12 stone is slim on me as I am tall and broad boned.

lottieandmia · 05/01/2017 13:14

I've got the awful headache now. Luckily I'm not weight training at the moment because I find it almost impossible to be doing that and trying to get into ketosis without feeling like I'm going to fall over.

Yes the mayonnaise with mustard I buy from Waitrose which has a variety of different ones with extra flavours although you need to look at the carbs. Usually low but some lower than others. Since Waitrose is on my doorstep I can usually find some unusual things (good for this diet but not for my bank balance!)

Today I've not really felt hungry, just want to drink water - I need to get something into me.

lasttimeround · 05/01/2017 15:15

I try not to track cals but eat 3 meals 1 snack. It gets easier once I'm properly in ketosis. I've not previously managed to exercise and be keto. But I think this time round it'll be doable as I'm keto adapted now and don't get that hit the wall feeling when I exert myself. But basically tartle I have no idea what to do with a fit bit. My feeling is if you are hungry you should eat. Enough water, ketosis and not eating for non hunger reasons should mean weight comes off.

The fried mushrooms for snacking are a good idea- going to pinch that.

Bit pants day today food wise. Planning fell through yesterday

B - eggs
L eggs
D- pork belly and greens
S- cheese celery

Tomorrow morning im shopping snd I need some fresh ideas.

Welcome everyone new. Shall we have a weigh jn on Monday and note progress? That way we can segue smoothly into the official boot camp when it starts on the 6th February. I think boot camp weighs in on Mondays. Altho tbh this thread is more for motivation and ideas. I find getting to ketosis a drag but worth it once I'm there.

DearPrudence · 05/01/2017 15:24

I don't track anything Tartle. Just followed BIWI's rules and lost almost 2 stone in the last boot camp.

Delighted to have a headache this afternoon. Making bolognese sauce for dinner which we'll have with fried cabbage and maybe cauliflower.

lottieandmia · 05/01/2017 17:43

How long does it take to get into ketosis?

lottieandmia · 05/01/2017 17:44

Oh also how many grams of carbs are you all allowing yourself a day?

lottieandmia · 05/01/2017 17:45

I thought you aren't supposed to count calories, only carbs? I find I lose more weight more quickly if I eat more fat.

CaptainBraandPants · 05/01/2017 18:42

Welcome to those old and new - I definitely recognise a few names. Grin
I'm following BIWI's bootcamp rules and neither weighing or counting carbs. If I'm not feeling hungry and am losing weight, then I know I'm on track.
Good day here, ha ft here creamy coffees rather than the scheduled two, but I needed the extra amidst the chaos of my older two going back to school: Mum, where he is this, that and the other! Both old enough to sort themselves out, but lots of noise whilst they did it.
Had mushroom soup, smoked salmon and two hb eggs for lunch and spag Bol with courgetti is bubbling away at the moment.
I've restarted C25K and did my third run today, going pretty well considering I won't be fat adapted yet.
Well done everyone for koko.

ariana1 · 05/01/2017 19:38

Okay - I'm easing myself back in - it looks like tomorrow's the day as I fell off the low carb wagon slightly today.
Good luck everyone - I'm looking forward to being in control of what I eat again and intend to cook more this time so I don't get bored and eat badly.

StuntNun · 05/01/2017 20:00

Lottie you don't need to be in ketosis to lose weight. As a rule of thumb then stick to below 50g of carbs per day but some people need to stay around 20g or lower. If you follow the Bootcamp rules you don't need to count calories or carbs, it will just work out by itself.

lisbapalea · 05/01/2017 20:30

Hi all,

I didn't log in yesterday but was largely OK in terms of meals but a couple of rogue snacks did appear, mainly because I found more Christmas leftovers that needed to be got rid of, and I wasn't strong enough just to bin them!

But today has been good:

B - ff yog with berries and flax
L - tuna salad with boiled egg and coleslaw
D - stir fry with broccoli, mushrooms, kale, prawns, chilli

Lots of water today and I don't feel hungry or tempted by junk. Much....

nekobus · 05/01/2017 21:37

Good day here too Smile
B - leftover butter chicken
L - Brussels sprouts, bacon and cheese
D - salmon fillets, courgette lots of butter and oil
Snacks - Brie, olives
Nearly done my 3L of water

lottieandmia · 05/01/2017 22:59

I haven't managed to eat much at all - is that bad? I had a chicken breast with salad and mayonnaise, then didn't really feel like any dinner so I had some cheese mixed up with butter. Maybe tomorrow my appetite will return.

I have in the past eaten too much protein on this diet and too many eggs. I ended up feeling really poorly so now I'm careful. But I really do feel full today. I ate more yesterday though.
