Starting today - low carb

Right it's time to get back in the low carb saddle. I basically follow boot camp rules. That works very well for me. I find getting into ketosis hard so making my public declaration of intent here. Planning to weigh and measure shortly.

So I'm starting today. Whingeing about carb flu all the way. Join me

Still KOKO here. AF arrived yeatersay and I've do far managed to refrain from my usual monthly sugar binge. I have had a bit more wine than last weekend though so need to knock that on the head.

Today:
Brunch: fauxtato skins topped with avocado and bacon
D: roast chicken, swede cubes, roast broccoli, cauli cheese.

Might make some flax bread in a bit so will no doubt have a slice or two with butter and marmite for a snack later.

RupertsMum2 · 22/01/2017 12:04

Bibble I used to find the yogurt on its own a little boring but strangely it is now my preferred breakfast. I will add a few berries to it once I have "bootcamped" for a few weeks.

I would like to read the Pig to Twig recipe book I bought last night but between Ds3 and the dog I'm not getting any peace.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 22/01/2017 13:06

It's a shame that the soda bread recipe didn't work out right. I'm trying another batch of the flax bread as the first lot was a bit too moist and eggy. It's cooking now and all I can smell is egg! I'd love to find a decent bread substitute but maybe I need to accept it doesn't exist.

BIWI · 22/01/2017 13:25

I think it did work out right - it just isn't bread! I wondered about the proportions of the ingredients, though - as it's mainly ground almonds that's really why it's more like cake. Perhaps if it used more flaxseed and coconut flour that might make it more bready?

Bibble - as far as possible we avoid artificial ingredients, and especially sweeteners. Sometimes it's just not possible, but obviously that depends on the recipe.

Bibblewanda · 22/01/2017 13:28

I've tried a few bread alternative recipes and I haven't liked any of them, I have to say. Cloud bread is just hideous. Sometimes I make a very thin omelette and use it as a wrap. An omelette with chopped coriander and garam masala makes a decent naan substitute too.

I think the Carbzone low-carb bread is quite tasty….. Link to it here: www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Carbzone-Low-Carb-Protein-Bread/304465011?from=search&tags&param=low+carb&parentContainer=SEARCHlow+carb_SHELFVIEW

Hello all.
I'm loving reading what you're all eating. Sounds delicious.

Bibblewanda · 22/01/2017 15:41

Ah bollocks just had 2 doritos (bloody DH had them) and a spoonful of my toddler's mashed potato. No willpower at all Angry

NotdeadyetBOING · 22/01/2017 15:53

Have been baking with DD. Only just stopped myself licking vast quantities of icing out of the bowl. God it's hard!

Bibblewanda · 22/01/2017 15:56

You've got way more willpower than me boing

Is there such a thing as a low fat cake she asks hopefully.

ClopySow · 22/01/2017 16:03

Bibble i had a list of stuff yesterday that would make your low carb toes curl.

Back on it. Slip ups happen.

BIWI · 22/01/2017 16:05

It happens. Just pick yourself up and get back on the wagon! Drink lots of water, and make sure you have a lot of lovely low carb stuff on hand so that you're really enjoying what you're eating.

NameChanger22 · 22/01/2017 16:07

Today has been the hardest day. I missed having a snack in the cinema. I resisted a pizza and now I'm trapped in the house with pain au chocolat and coconut macaroons (my favourite). I have good willpower, but it's being tested today.

ClopySow · 22/01/2017 16:26

I'm trying to figure out how to get dairy out of my diet a bit more but keep the fat content up. Cheese and cream are featuring a lot. I'm eating fatty meat and veg cooked with lots of butter. Any other suggestions?

Bibblewanda · 22/01/2017 16:50

Yes I'm also eating loads of cheese.

I think if it turns out I can't have much dairy and still lose weight I shall have to abandon LCHF and return to 5:2. I can just about handle no milk but not no cheese or yoghurt.

ClopySow · 22/01/2017 17:04

I can handle no cheese, i just need substitutes and i'm struggling to find any.

Aderyn2016 · 22/01/2017 18:06

Mixed day here. Been really busy so food has consisted of 3 big strawberries with a tablespoon of greek yoghurt, 2 babybel, 1 bite of ds's choc brownie and 1 square of 90% cocoa chocolate. And 2 thick slices of gammon.
Will have eggs and flax bread for dinner. Cba to cook again having made sausage casserole and roasties for dh and the kids.

BIWI · 22/01/2017 18:10

Salads with an oily dressing will help keep the fat up. You could also try roasting your veg in olive oil.

If dairy does turn out to be a problem, you can buy substitutes for yoghurt made from coconut milk, which are very lovely! CoYo is one of my favourites - although it does have to be said that it's very expensive

BIWI · 22/01/2017 18:11

Not much veg or salad going on there, Aderyn!

NotdeadyetBOING · 22/01/2017 18:28

I seem to be living off vast quantities of roasted veg (in olive oil with herbs) and extra mayo on top. Suspect the carb content isn't super low - even though I am avoiding the high carb ones like carrots - but I can't help feeling it must be healthy and the best way to eat carbs.

Also eating FAR too much cheese. Hard habit to break. Alarmingly easy to overeat cheese, for some reason….

ClopySow · 22/01/2017 18:29

I remember seeing on a previous thread that dairy is often a problem if you have pcos, which i do. But i definitely lost more last time i did this and it's much slower this time. I've been really strict, had my first lapse yesterday after 2 weeks of good lchf. Every day is either egg with mayo or ham and cheese egg muffins for breakfast, a salad with ham/cheese/tuna mayo/olives in oil/mayo. Dinner is lamb/pork/chicken thighs/salmon with cabbage or cauliflower with butter or salad. I feel constantly hungry. I never did last time. Gallons of water, at least 5 pints per day if not more.

I feel like i must have it wrong somewhere but not sure where.

Although i can see the fat shifting from my back and upper abdomen.

Aderyn2016 · 22/01/2017 19:48

I had mountains of roasted veg with dinner last night BIWI. Will make another prawn curry tomorrow, which has lots of spinach, leeks, peppers and baby corn in it, to make up for lack of veg today.
Have had too much dairy today, what with yoghurt, babybel and 1 creamy coffee. Am also getting bored of the flaxbread so think I will have a go at the soda bread in the week.

Veryflummoxed · 23/01/2017 08:03

I agree about the flax bread being cakey, and it needs a lot of toasting for even a fine layer of crunch. However a (thin) slice fried definitely has a real fried bread thing going on, for those who like fried bread.

My weekend consisted entirely of me sabotaging any attempt to LC. Not only did I not low carb, I ate junk food which didn't even taste good. I was in a stressful situation but even so why.? My stomach feels huge, like I've got a weight strapped on.

I second the loads of olive oil on salad as an extra way to add in fat.

Right, back on it or I'll be starting bootcamp heavier than I finished the last one.

lasttimeround · 23/01/2017 08:43

Weekends are tricky. My stress eating is also a real is isshoo.
Buy for once I'm down on a Monday - just over 2 pounds. Hurrah
