Starting today - low carb

Right it's time to get back in the low carb saddle. I basically follow boot camp rules. That works very well for me. I find getting into ketosis hard so making my public declaration of intent here. Planning to weigh and measure shortly.

So I'm starting today. Whingeing about carb flu all the way. Join me

Bibble looking at the alpro unsweetened soya milk, it's 0.2g carb per 100g, so would be fine.
I prefer the almond milk, personally. It's lovely warmed up in the microwave and then dunking a spicy chai teabag into it to make a chai latte.
Not eaten much here today, hardly any veg, but will do better tomorrow. Drank well and went on a run, so still feeling positive.

GuinefortGrey · 21/01/2017 19:54

I bought unsweetened hazelnut milk today - 0 carbs! Had some in my coffee and it was rather nice. I like that idea of making a latte with a chai tea bag, definitely going to try that, sounds yummy!

GuinefortGrey · 21/01/2017 20:19

Oops - just checked and it is actually almond milk, don't know where I got hazelnut from! Blush.

RupertsMum2 · 21/01/2017 20:25

Bibble I just bought pig to twig and was planning the cookbook but I don't think I could go without yogurt I have it for breakfast most days.

Ridiculously pleased to discover that my water bottle, which I had assumed held 500mls, actually holds 700mls so I've had almost a litre more than I thought.

B. Bacon, egg, sausage, mushrooms, spinach and coffee with cream
L. 1 rasher of leftover bacon and a coffee with cream
D. Pork medallions in creamy mushroom sauce, cauliflower and broccoli with butter and grated cheese.

I feel I have probably eaten too much today but at least I stuck to low carb.

Bibblewanda · 21/01/2017 20:49

Rupert the recipes are lovely in the cookbook, that's the thing!

CaptainBraandPants · 22/01/2017 06:37

I've lost 3.4lbs this week, that's 11.4lbs in 3 weeks Grin So very, very pleased. I'm 8 lbs away from not being obese any more, which is my first goal. Grin Sorry, can't stop grinning.

Btw, I agree there are some lovely recipes in the pig to twig cookbook. The actual book of their weight loss is quite a good read, too.

BetsyM00 · 22/01/2017 09:33

Well done Captain, that's a great loss. Star

RupertsMum2 · 22/01/2017 09:40

Day 6, fine apart from a slight headache and 7lbs down, really pleased.

Captain fantastic. I'm several stone from not being obese but hopefully by summer ........

Bibble I've just bought the recipe book on kindle. Will read it this pm.

Don't know what I'm going to eat today yet. I will go and search the kitchen and post later.

BIWI · 22/01/2017 09:51

The recipe book is lovely - but beware quantities! Some of them are given for 2 people, like the beef korma (which is gorgeous), but when I doubled them to make enough for 4, I could have fed the whole street Grin

Also, I'd just like to point you in the direction of the Bootcamp recipe thread, which also has some lovely low carb recipes in it

BIWI · 22/01/2017 09:52

Recipe thread

Yesterday's experiment was almond soda bread, from Tom Kerridge's new book

On the positive side, it was really easy to make (once you've got hold of the ingredients - although I could buy everything I needed from Sainsbury's). Literally just dump everything in the food processor, along with some melted butter, and process for one minute. Then bake for 35 minutes.

But it was a bit disappointing. It was lovely to have something as a carrier for Marmite, which I truly miss, but it's really not like bread. It's more like a savoury cake.

I tried toasting it, but all that it does is gets hotter rather than crisper.

I did make it with eggs smaller than he stated, (medium rather than large), so it might have risen and been a bit less dense with the right size eggs, but it was still unmistakably cake rather than bread.

However, I reckon after a couple of days, when it's staler and therefore drier, it might be better. And it would definitely work as a bread substitute for something like an open sandwich, e.g. with smoked salmon and cream cheese on the top, or smashed avocado, etc.

BIWI · 22/01/2017 10:08

... and it is very low carb. He says that the whole thing should make 10 slices (which would actually be quite thick slices), and each slice is 2g carbs

GuinefortGrey · 22/01/2017 10:54

I am drooling at those pics BIWI! Especially the one with the melting butter - nom!

I'm a little afraid to make any sort of bread substitute in case it kicks off my cravings. Plus I have absolutely NO self control and would probably eat that whole loaf in one sitting and then hate myself. I think I'm going to plan one as my "one month" treat to myself on the 9th Feb though Grin

LovelyBath77 · 22/01/2017 10:55

I made a low carb pixie yesterday and it was good, the DSs had some too and liked it. Recipe is on the ditch the carbs site. Just had an omelette with mushrooms which was nice, finding the appetite is going after a few weeks of this, anyone else finding the same? probably won't have much till dinner tonight now.

LovelyBath77 · 22/01/2017 10:55

Pizza not pixie!

Bibblewanda · 22/01/2017 10:56

Just having my brunch - didn't have breakfast. 4 scrambled eggs with tomatoes and chilli plus some grated cheddar. Should keep me going til dinner which is beef burgers with green salad.

Sound ok?

LovelyBath77 · 22/01/2017 10:56

I feel the same about bread, Grey. Maybe will try it in time, not sure. I felt the same with the pizza base, going to just do baking once a week or less I think.

RupertsMum2 · 22/01/2017 10:56

Thank you BIWI I have made several things from the recipe thread previously. Some of them have been delicious. I will watch the quantities in the book but, having teenaged boys (and a Labrador), nothing much goes to waste here.

B. FF Greek yogurt and a coffee with cream
L. Smoked salmon, green salad, half an avocado, mayo
D. Basa filets cooked in butter, cauliflower & broccoli with butter

LovelyBath77 · 22/01/2017 10:56

Sounds great bibble

LovelyBath77 · 22/01/2017 10:57

Rupertsmum I like the things you are having today, sounds fab!

Bibblewanda · 22/01/2017 10:59

I love yoghurt but would find it very weird having it without fruit I think

BIWI · 22/01/2017 11:02

It's lovely without fruit! Sometimes I add some almonds, and often I'll add a bit of vanilla extract.

Bibblewanda · 22/01/2017 11:05

I'll try it. I had some yesterday with vanilla extract and just found it a little dull...doesn't feel "complete" as breakfast almost. No idea why I feel like that but I do.

Bibblewanda · 22/01/2017 11:30

The pig to twig cookbook uses Splenda in some things. I've always tried to stay away from artificial sugar! Is it a no no?
