Starting today - low carb

Right it's time to get back in the low carb saddle. I basically follow boot camp rules. That works very well for me. I find getting into ketosis hard so making my public declaration of intent here. Planning to weigh and measure shortly.

So I'm starting today. Whingeing about carb flu all the way. Join me

Definitely avoid the coffee! Any milky coffee (latte, cappuccino etc) is way too carby I'm afraid.

Bibblewanda · 21/01/2017 09:48

Hello may I join? At the end of week 2 LCHF. At the end of week 1 I'd lost 4lbs which I was delighted by. However weighed myself today and I've put 3lbs back on Sad. Feeling v demotivated. I did mess up by having a few slices of pizza on Thursday but can that really have made that much difference?!

My food plan for this week is as follows, please critique it!!!

Breakfasts will be frittata or full fat yoghurt with blueberries (more likely to be frittata)

Lunches will be either scrambled eggs (4) with tomatoes and feta or courgette salad consisting of fried courgette, feta, avocado and dressed in olive oil and lemon juice

Dinners are spag Bol with courgetti, creamy chicken casserole from diet doctor website, Thai red curry with salmon (obviously no rice), frittata, no bread burgers with salad, breadles fajitas (guacamole, cheese, sour cream with a mix of vegetables in tomato sauce w feta or halloumi)

Snacks I hope minimal but will be plain full fat Greek yog, cheese, pepper and cucumber sticks or the occasional 85% cocoa chocolate square (trying to gradually wean off sugar)

Tips?

Bibblewanda · 21/01/2017 09:48

Oh and I drink tea with full fat milk and no sugar

Notso · 21/01/2017 10:24

How do you deal with a hangover without carbs?
Celebrating my a Mums big birthday this weekend too much wine last night and am feeling rough this morning. I think tonight is going to be boozy too.

ClopySow · 21/01/2017 11:41

I usually manage with something like bacon and eggs. I'm afraid i have not just fallen off the wagon, i have hurled myself off with gusto...toast and marmalade.

NameChanger22 · 21/01/2017 12:37

I'm still going. I quite like eating like this, although I'm finding I have to be creative with my cooking to avoid getting bored. I don't weigh myself but I feel like I've lost a few pounds, my boobs and belly have shrunk a bit.

Today I've eaten full fat Greek yoghurt with about 5 crushed, roasted pecan nuts.

Lunch is going to be aubergine (base) pizzas and salad.

Dinner will probably be cauliflower cheese and vegi sausage and veg stir fry.

I'm not counting everything exactly. I'm just not eating anything with above 9 carbs per 100g (9%), with the exception of a few nuts. I'm vegetarian. Please let me know if this is the wrong approach.

CaptainBraandPants · 21/01/2017 13:44

Still going well here.
Bibble that sounds reasonable. Can you avoid the milk in the tea? Maybe have almond milk? Also go easy on the tomatoes and the peppers.
Clopy climb back on, don't let it derail you totally Flowers
Notso agree with the bacon and egg suggestion.
I'm in full on appetite suppressant mode at the moment, which is good but weird Grin

LovelyBath77 · 21/01/2017 13:48

Hi, can I join you? I've been doing this since the start of Jan. thinking of making a fathead pizza, with almond flour this evening. Has anyone tried that before?

LovelyBath77 · 21/01/2017 13:48

Double cream in coffee is lower carb than milk I think.

BIWI · 21/01/2017 13:48

Sounds good, NameChanger! Just be wary though - 9g /100g could be quite high, depending on how much of something you're eating.

Have a look at the Bootcamp recipe thread for some inspiration. There are lots of veggie options on there (it's stickied at the top of the Bootcamp topic)

ClopySow · 21/01/2017 13:58

It won't derail me, i'm enjoying feeling much better too much to go back to a carb heavy diet. Today is a blip.

NameChanger22 · 21/01/2017 14:04

Thanks BIWI. Most things I've been eating are less than 3g. Vegetables seem to vary from about 3g to 9g. Some vegetables are higher, so I'm avoiding those.

I'm not eating large quantities of anything, just three small to medium size meals. I'm mostly eggs, tofu, vegetables and cheese with a few nuts, full fat yoghurt, full fat cream and butter and oils. I haven't eaten any fruit. I don't expect to lose weight fast, I'm happy to stick with this diet for a long time.

I think my only slip up was having 2 servings of vegi lasagne (lasagne sheets replaced with fried courgette). It was too delicious to stop at 1 serving. I won't make it again for a while.

I'll have a look at some more recipes, as it is easy to get bored.

Bibblewanda · 21/01/2017 14:45

I can't bear almond or soya milk, I think what I might do is just cut down to two cups of tea a day rather than my usual five or six Blush

Today so far:

Cream cheese and smoked salmon on cucumber slices

Avocado tomato and feta salad dressed with olive oil

1 hard boiled egg.

Flibbertyjibbit · 21/01/2017 15:47

Have you tried having your tea black bible? Ive found black tea with bit of added cold water is actually quite nice.

Today so far full fat yoghurt for breakfast and coffee with double cream. Didn't feel hungry at lunch so didn't have anything. Boot camp says to have 3 meals a day. Should I eat even if not hungry? I'm still drinking what seems like gallons of water and peeing constantly

Aderyn2016 · 21/01/2017 16:08

I've been drinking lots of mint tea - removes the need for milk altogether.

GuinefortGrey · 21/01/2017 17:43

So depressing about the Waitrose cappuccino!!! I can't believe it so high in carbs. I don't get there very often but do like to claim my free cup on the occasions that I do. What about a "flat white" from a Costa or Tchibo machine? Are these just as bad??

I've had a rough couple of days with the latest lurgy and have really failed to drink anywhere near enough water. Struggling with that a lot. I think it's partly because my appetite has gone, I just don't feel like drinking anything either. Did a Sainsbury's shop earlier and bought a big bar of Montezuma's 100% cocoa chocolate. It's only 8g carbs in the entire bar, 2g per serving. I'm kicking myself for buying it though as it's just a sign of me falling back into my grazing ways, a nibble here and a nibble there, when I should be sticking to my 3 meals a day. Grrrr! I'm my own worst enemy I really am Sad

Bibblewanda · 21/01/2017 17:57

Can't stand black or herbal tea either. I'm too British Grin

I'm also struggling with the water, it's always been a downfall of mine as I just forget about it.

Aderyn2016 · 21/01/2017 17:57

I think the chocolate is okay. Better to have that in the house than get cravings and eat a dairy milk or something.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 21/01/2017 18:17

Made a lovely pudding today - ff Greek yoghurt flavoured with coffee and served with dark chocolate shavings. Delicious and felt very indulgent!

Bibblewanda · 21/01/2017 18:42

Has anyone here read neris and India's idiot proof diet cookbook? The recipes are lovely but they ban all milk and yoghurt.

Bibblewanda · 21/01/2017 18:42

Is ff fat free?

boldlygoingsomewhere · 21/01/2017 18:46

Ff is full fat. Smile

BIWI · 21/01/2017 18:51

Bibble - milk is probably banned because it gets very carby very quickly. Not sure about yoghurt, but it could be that dairy does impede weight loss for some people.

And ff is definitely full fat when you're low carbing! Never, ever, go near fat-free stuff Grin

Bibblewanda · 21/01/2017 18:52

That's what I thought, was confused for a second!!

Bibblewanda · 21/01/2017 18:53

Is unsweetened soya milk low carb as I could probably tolerate that in my tea...
