Starting today - low carb

Right it's time to get back in the low carb saddle. I basically follow boot camp rules. That works very well for me. I find getting into ketosis hard so making my public declaration of intent here. Planning to weigh and measure shortly.

So I'm starting today. Whingeing about carb flu all the way. Join me

Sorry - kaletts

ChesterDrawers · 19/01/2017 20:58

Thanks for the avocado tip Rupert, will give that a try.

CaptainBraandPants · 19/01/2017 21:12

Just catching up as I don't think I've posted since Sunday. Doing well. I'm in the 'zone" here. Had a stressful day yesterday and was separated from my lunch and getting hungry, but I managed to stay firm.
Then had lovely evening at my reading group. I ate almonds and cheese and avoided all the high carb food. I made sure I drove, so I just drank water. very pleased with myself.
Today I had:
B - 2x creamy coffee
L - broccoli and stilton soup, halloumi and olives
D - peppered mackerel and roasted veg

I made something called a Tex-mex casserole from the DietDoctor site the other day. Had it with green salad, sour cream and hm guacamole. It was lovely, but bloody hell, was it hot! Need a steam coming out of my ears emoji Grin

Veryflummoxed · 19/01/2017 21:59

Kaletts are a hybrid kale Brussels sprout. Looks like a sprout but made of kale leaves. I should have taken a photo. Smile

ChesterDrawers · 20/01/2017 10:22

Lost - one apetite. If found please return to ChesterDrawers, c/o Mumsnet.

Seriously, I have never felt like this before through low carb. rarely even lose my appetite through worry, usually go the other way. I feel like there's a big hole of nothingness where my stomach used to be. I can't think of anything i want to eat right now, but I know I ought eat something to cos I must be hungry.

BIWI · 20/01/2017 10:48

If you don't feel hungry, that's a good sign! Don't eat for the sake of it.

BetsyM00 · 20/01/2017 11:15

Found - one appetite. Eaten everything in sight, all good low carb things, but still. Here, have it back I don't want it!

NotdeadyetBOING · 20/01/2017 11:27

Morning feeling LCers.

I am checking in to pass on my own sorry tale to keep you all on the right track….. Made the mistake of succumbing to a white bread craving at lunchtime yesterday. Needless to say - didn't stop at a single slice, and triggered chocolate craving. Was a BAD DAY.

Back on it today, but annoyed with myself.

nekobus · 20/01/2017 13:25

Well done on the loss Ruperts that's great!

Very I like the sound of fried flax bread. I toasted then put garlic butter on it and that was my garlic bread substitute with courgetti bolognese - was nice and stodgy feeling like one of those garlic flatbreads...

Anyone else see the courgette and spinach supply crisis on the news!! What am I to do? Not a courgette to be found in Aldi or Sainsburys! I go through 3-6 a week....

Not got to the lost my appetite stage yet.... have been going for more fat and water - thanks BIWI!

nekobus · 20/01/2017 13:26

Sorry meant to say notdead- today is another day! Get back on it Smile

CaptainBraandPants · 20/01/2017 14:00

nekobus I sent DH out for courgettes the other day. He went to SIX shops before he found any! He sensibly bought double the number I asked for, but I'm going to run out next week and don't know what I'll do without courgettes. Sad

RupertsMum2 · 20/01/2017 14:06

So, day 5, woke with a headache this morning and assumed it was the start of carb flu but 2 paracetamol and a bottle of water and I'm fine. I'm 'in the zone' at the moment - long may it last.

B. FF yogurt and 2 x coffee with cream
L. Beef burger, goats cheese, green salad and mayo
D. Tuna steak, cauliflower mash, spinach and butter

nekobus interesting. My courgetti had been substituted by butternut squash noodles in my online shop this week. Perhaps that's why.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 20/01/2017 14:41

Just trying my hand at the flax bread mentioned upthread. I suspect my loaf tin is too large and I'll end up with teeny-tiny slices! Will have to see if I can find a smaller one. It smells delicious though - looking forward to sampling it!

I love a bit of courgetti! Will be hard without them as it's one of my quick and easy staples.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 20/01/2017 15:56

Flax bread has come out a bit eggy but otherwise nice. Will have a bit toasted with dinner later. Thanks for the recipe. Smile

Flibbertyjibbit · 20/01/2017 16:21

I seem to have woken up headache free which is nice on day 5. Hoping if I keep drinking lots of water I'm through the worst of it.

B - 2 chipolatas, coffee with double cream
L - Cauliflower soup & parmesan crisps
D - Gammon & Salad.

I've got a friend staying with us this weekend so I am hoping I can stick to my low carb plan. How carby would a cappucino be? I'm wondering if it would be better to have black tea when out at coffee shop, can't seem to drink coffee black.

Flibbertyjibbit · 20/01/2017 16:29

Starbucks has a tall cappuccino listed at 9g carbs. Is that too much for one drink? I'm trying to stay under 20g a day but not sure if 9g in one go would set me back.

Aderyn2016 · 20/01/2017 16:32

Hi all. Going quite well here. Feel quite energetic, so have put it to good use and cleaned the house and done the food shop before the weekend.
Have eaten b - slice flaxbread with almond butter. L - 2 babybel and handful of walnuts.
D - will be prawn curry with lots of spinach.

Have been drinking loads of mint tea to keep water levels up. It is really lovely and stops me wanting to eat quite so much!

Tomorrow will be hard as I am going to be eating out and will have to find suitable food that isn't carb heavy.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend

wombattoo · 20/01/2017 16:38

I'm still here but not really doing great. I don't know if mentally I am spoiling it whilst I wait for bc to start. I start each day starting again Grin
Good to hear how well everyone is doing.

nekobus · 20/01/2017 17:49

Oh dear wombat, been there! Just think of the head start you'll have if you keep going Smile

Flibberty I wouldn't waste 9g carbs on a drink - have you got anything you could bring a dash of cream out with you? I use the sistema dressing pots (think they are 30ml) and take them out with me if I know I'm having coffee. No one bats an eye!!

NotdeadyetBOING · 20/01/2017 17:55

Thanks Nekobus Grin.

Today has been much better…. fried eggs in butter for breakfast, roasted veg, sea bass in butter for lunch and having roast chicken (no spuds) followed by cheese for dinner. Plus went to gym.

Tomorrow with be on anti Trump march so that will be some decent exercise.

The courgette thing is boring, isn't it?

CaptainBraandPants · 20/01/2017 18:23

Flipperty I agree about the cappuccino. Costa have cream, or as nekobus said, take your own. Theses sistema pots are brilliant, just the right size.

Aderyn2016 · 20/01/2017 19:58

Ive just looked up the carbs in a waitrose cappucino from the vending machine. 12!!!
Bugger! Been drinking those virtually every time I go in, as consolation for all the money I spend in there.

wombattoo · 20/01/2017 20:00

Thanks neko

Veryflummoxed · 20/01/2017 21:24

Flibberty, last time I was in Starbucks i asked if they had cream. They served me an Americano and a jug of cream.

wombattoo KOKOFlowerswhy is it some times it's so easy and other times so hard?

Breakfast eggs and ham and thin slice of flax bread.

Dinner Parmesan pork chops. Fried sprouts with bacon. Mushroom. Celeriac chips.

A coffee with cream. Feel like I've overeaten though. I think my portions are a bit large at the moment.

Flibbertyjibbit · 20/01/2017 22:08

Think I will purchase a 30ml tub as I'm sure it will be useful for future coffees out. Will ask for cream when out over weekend. Thank you all.

Keep going Wombat Flowers
