Starting today - low carb

Right it's time to get back in the low carb saddle. I basically follow boot camp rules. That works very well for me. I find getting into ketosis hard so making my public declaration of intent here. Planning to weigh and measure shortly.

So I'm starting today. Whingeing about carb flu all the way. Join me

Are we allowed tomatoes on boot camp? I threw a tin of chopped tomatoes in the mince tonight but it said 7g of carbs per 100g so thought that was quite high?

StuntNun · 18/01/2017 20:01

Has anyone ordered from here before? www.natural-low-carb-store.co.uk/ They sell low carb soups, ready meals and snacks.

wombattoo · 18/01/2017 20:58

Flibberty If you are cooking a reasonable amount of mince, say 4 portions, the carb count doesn't work out too high. I believe that Sainsbury's are the lowest carb.

Flibbertyjibbit · 18/01/2017 22:58

Thanks Wombattoo. Made 4 portions so I guess its 7g per portion as it was 400g tin.

The scales are being pretty stubborn for me, but my back boobs are disappearing. I forgot about this phenomenon, my bra has gone from fastening at the biggest bit to the smallest but and i can see a waist appearing. I'm just going to avoid the scales for a bit.

I've upped my water the last few days and am trying hard to reduce the dairy.

I made more wee egg muffins last night. They really are delicious.

lasttimeround · 19/01/2017 07:30

Nice progress on the back boobs! I'm floundering a bit. Dd has been ill with a vomiting bug earlier this week and I'm not feeling so great. Thinking about taking a break and returning your things earn boot camp starts. I'm glad to have stopped the mindless eating that I started at Christmas though

Dont stop now last. I think it will make boot camp really hard. You have motivated all of us to get going so hopefully we can persuade you to stay

BIWI · 19/01/2017 08:52

Flibberty - Sainsbury's Basics tomatoes (in a tetrapak) are the lowest carb I've found.

lasttime - agree; it would be a shame to stop now! Sorry to hear that you're feeling ill though, and I hope you're better soon

lasttimeround · 19/01/2017 09:33

Thanks for the encouragement aderyn and BIWI. You have made me think again. I've been feeling a bit weak and nauseous. I'm going to up my carbs a bit but tbh that's still pretty low carb as I've been very low carb.

Sorry to hear you're feeling shitty Last. I have to agree though that you've done the hard bit now so maybe just have some really indulgent meals, a bit BC light maybe, til you're feeling better. I guarantee you'll feel worse if you eat a shit-tonne of carbs.

I am feeling a bit down, but I think AF is due and I am fed up of being mostly housebound, especially as DH is away. Consequently last night's tea was two chunks of cheese, so not great. Not had breakfast either as had early deadline for work that needed doing. Will have brunch shortly and have slow cooker on so something easy for tea in case I get another case of the Can't Be Arsed-s later.

So today:
B/L: Flax bread with butter, topped with avocado and crispy bacon. Had this the other day and it was so nice.
D: slow cooker chilli - has got two peppers (one yellow, one green) and a tin of toms so a bit on the carby side, but should be at least four portions so hopefully not too bad.

I have got a bottle of red wine calling my name so might have a glass tonight and have some pork scratchings in case I get hungry in between meals.

Aderyn2016 · 19/01/2017 10:13

last, I have been feeling tired too and was advised upthread to increase veg and to be aware that it takes a while for the body to adjust to burning fat instead of carbs. Maybe what you are feeling is similar. I feel better today, having had loads of veg with my prawn stir fry last night, so hopefully I am coming through the difficult bit. I hope you do too x

GuinefortGrey · 19/01/2017 11:02

Still here! I seem to have settled into a routine that works well for me. A light early breakfast before the school run (portion of Natural Ketosis nuts/seed granola plus 2 tablespoons natural Greek yogurt), then a hot "brunch" when I get back from sorting out dogs/ponies/chickens at around 10am - usually scrambled or poached egg with bacon, mushrooms or spinach in butter. Yum!

This keeps me going until late lunch of a NK soup around 2.30, followed by my NK pouch plus veg supper at 7.30pm. I do find I get very nibbley at around 5pm. I am a grazer by nature and sticking to set meals is a real challenge. I have discovered Kale crisps which seem to hit the spot very well when I just need "something".
Tesco are selling massive bags of curly kale very cheaply at the moment and I think I am buying them all Grin.

I've given up on the creamy coffee as it was making me feel bleurgh. Just add a tiny splash of milk now and only have 1 or 2 decaffs a day.

Notso · 19/01/2017 11:35

After deciding not to buy a bar of 80% dark choc last night I had major sweet cravings. I was roaming in and out of the kitchen opening and closing the cupboards and fridge all evening. I ended up drinking a scalding hot green tea and going to bed early. I WILL be strong.

Brunch was lamb breast and roasted broccoli today with extra butter on the broccoli, delicious. Hopefully will keep me going through a chilly afternoon at forest school.

ChesterDrawers · 19/01/2017 11:38

Is there anything more disappointing than an underripe avocado?

Sigh...

Notso · 19/01/2017 11:46

Indeed Chester I love avocado, I left slimming world for the last time after being told off for eating avocado.

nekobus · 19/01/2017 12:47

What about 2 pack of avocados which look ripe but are totally black and yuk inside? Thank you Aldi 😞

Notso that sounds like me last night opening and closing cupboard and fridge looking for something to ease the cravings! Had a fruit tea in the end and some more water. Lol at your slimming world experience - avocado is blacklisted on ww too, I could never go back!

Last do stick around as you have been really supportive starting this great for us! Like others say, maybe BC light for a while until BC starts - you might be cross with yourself if you put on and undo your good work to date before BC

nekobus · 19/01/2017 12:48

'great' = 'thread' stupid autocorrect

feekerry · 19/01/2017 12:57

Just having a look at that stunt
Like the look of their breakfast granola tho quite pricy. Nearly 7 quid for 7 servings so that would last me prob week and a half as have other stuff at weekends. Just trying to work out if it's worth it

Flibbertyjibbit · 19/01/2017 13:04

Last hope you are able to stick with us, I've had a stinking headache all morning but I know it will be gone in a few days if I carry on drinking lots of water.

B - Scrambled Egg and coffee with cream
L - Cauliflower soup with Parmesan crisps - successful batch Smile thank you for all the tips!

BabsUnited · 19/01/2017 13:49

Feel like I've come out of the fug of the first few days - day 4 here and feeling good. I feel so sprightly and like i have loads of energy! Definitely less bloated too. I have also lost 3.5lbs since monday morning. I'm finding I'm not hungry first thing so Ive been having an omelet at around 11 as a sort of brunch that sees me through till maybe 3pm when i have a smallish snack like a chicken drumstick or something then a dinner at about 8. Going well so far but probably need to up the water intake....

BIWI · 19/01/2017 14:02

My lunch today (at work): salmon fillet, poached in butter and lemon juice, with a mixed salad, cherry tomatoes and Feta crumbled on top (with an oily dressing)

Starting today - low carb
RupertsMum2 · 19/01/2017 15:14

Is there anything more disappointing than an underripe avocado?

A tip from a previous bootcamp thread was to serve the underripe avocado lightly fried. I tried it and it worked well.

Today
B. FF yogurt and coffee with cream
L. Chicken breast with skin, green salad and 2 cherry tomatoes
S. cup of tea with cream (yuc!)
D. Pork chop, cauliflower mash and green beans.

I wasn't going to weigh myself but fell onto the scales on my way out of bed this am and I'm 5lbs down. Just waiting for carb flu to hit now!

Veryflummoxed · 19/01/2017 17:09

Updating my usage of flax bread, I had it fried with fried egg. Oh it was fabulous.

Dinner last night and tonight; roast beef, roast celeriac and kaletts with butter. I'd never heard of kaletts before, I think they could become my new favourite veg.

Veryflummoxed · 19/01/2017 17:10

Salmon looks good BIWI Smile

BIWI · 19/01/2017 19:33

What are kallets?
