Morning all!

for the last time this Bootcamp, is the Spreadsheet of Wonderfulness

I hope that this Bootcamp has been successful for you. I have to say, it's been one of the most trouble-free Grin

I'm certainly carrying on, and with a bit more focus Blush given that we now have a holiday booked in 11 weeks time, that will mean I need to be ready to don a swimsuit.

Ahhhhhhhh! Most delicious breakfast with Alpro almond flavour soya yogurt, only 2.3g carb per 100g.

This is what I miss on this woe, normal breakfast food.

Betty do you remember those programs where they set obstacle courses for squirrels to see if they could reach the nuts? That is how my Enzo views life. It took us a while to work out the he'd jumped on a chair in the dining room to get on a table which enabled him to reach a serving hatch which he could climb through onto the worksurface!

Also, your experience of this woe seems very similar to mine, I only actually loose weight if I am pretty strict. I found the 16:8 fast helped. For me if I have a good breakfast and lunch I don't get too hungry in the evening but if I try to skip breakfast I'm struggling by 11.

BIWI · 08/08/2016 08:15

betty

Well 165 seems to be back for a second day in a row, which is ominous. This means I've gained 5lbs in a week, without so much as a crumb of bagel or a grain of rice! angry and lots and lots of exercise. But I know I've been drinking too much and being way too lax around slightly higher carb LC foods which all adds up.

Well you've answered your own question! LC isn't just about bagels or rice - it's very easy with today's foods to eat too many carbs.

I get your frustration though, totally - the key lesson to take out of this is that you need to find your 'happy medium' - what can/can't you eat without gaining weight. It's not an easy thing to do.

Just one thing though - I know you're enjoying your exercise, and it's obviously a great relief to you to be able to get back to it. But don't rely on exercise to control your weight.

I always though that weight loss was 80% diet and 20% exercise, but a book I read recently (Dr Jason Fung, The Obesity Code) gives this as 95% and 5%!!!

Betty I'm WFH today and would have previously thought the same as you about fasting at home but I tried it last Monday and found it surprisingly easy to eat nothing. I had thought the same as you because of 5:2 experience but unlike 5:2 you're not restricted to 500 calories for dinner, just lots of delicious LCHF food until you're satisfied. Grin

BIWI I think we need MNHQ to give us an LCHF friendly food emoticon - the cake and chocolate ones just don't cut it on here What do you reckon? Smile

bettyblueeyes83 · 08/08/2016 08:45

Thanks everyone. BIWI you're right, I know! It's just annoying - I could understand better if I'd been really lazy and eaten, say, a cake! It's the blooming alcohol, I know it: three wines on Thurs, three G&Ts on Fri, and too much prosecco on Sat! And all the while I'm smugly proud of myself for having created a super low carb picnic thanks M&S - although I did then eat lots of cherries at said picnic Blush

You're right about exercise too, but I do enjoy it as you say, so I'll just try to stop expecting miracles from it.

Right, my hol is in two weeks and these very unwelcome five pounds had better watch out. Adding in 16:8, plenty of fat, plenty of water, watch the dairy, no nuts or berries and NO alcohol Shock

Loving the determined squirrel-dog, I think I'm the human version!! Grin

BIWI · 08/08/2016 13:22

Absolutely nothing wrong with exercise, btw - it has lots of benefits to us. Just weight loss isn't as predictable an outcome as people expect it to be.

I do combine this way of eating with fasting and now find it quite easy to miss a meal. I also find out that I need breakfast and a good lunch then I can easily skip the evening meal.

I know what you mean about finding it easy to put the weight back on. Trying to find the balance is tricky...

Hello All,

Posting from the Spanish seaside. Internet is intermittent so I am posting nw so I can keep up.

LCHF is going ok, but we all cook communally so have decided not to ask for something different from the rest. Only once has this meant a high carb meal so I am hoping I won't put on too much while I am not really in control of what I am eating. I can't resist some of the fruit, though. It's delicious. I am also using almonds as a fall back in case there isn't quite enough food I can eat at a meal.

I'm not drinking at all either. Something about emigrating has made me feel a bit at sea and I don't feel like any other kind of dizziness even though this bit of it is holiday.

The only exercise I am doing is jumping about in the waves. I hope that counts!

I have just googled Affenpinscher. That's one cute food theif!

SestraClone · 08/08/2016 18:13

Made this tonight, swapping the pasta for courgetti which worked really well. Also added a slosh of cream. Was delicious!

Haha aww what a naughty dog!

Less said about today the better. Despite my avowed fresh start, I came back from a hospital appointment (nothing at all serious, very minor but a bit stressful) and stress/comfort ate for no reason. Again, lowish carb food but unnecessary and not in control. Sigh. I think seeing the higher weight makes me think, well screw it. I really need a good day tomorrow, going to fast until half two (just had dark choc - argh!) so I've done 16:8 and go from there...

IndianaJone · 08/08/2016 23:03

I almost had a good day today. I fasted until about 1pm then had a lunch of tuna salad. Then nothing for awhile but did tuck into a few spoons of the kids leftover dinner of chickpeas and rice. Arrggghhhhhh!!! Why did I do that?!! It's such a bad habit and has started to creep back in.

Then back in line with a dinner of pollack and veg.

Sestra that looks good! I'm going to try it soon.

Tomorrow I hope to hit my water target. That's another thing which has slipped recently.

SestraClone · 09/08/2016 20:49

Skipped breakfast as was so nervous waiting for DDs exam results arriving in the post! (passed them all woohoo!)

Lunch - chicken ceasar salad, no croutons
Dinner - www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2013/mar/12/nigel-slater-sausage-cabbage-fry
Snack - 1 square of Lidl dark choc with orange, it is divine and about 4g a square, so a treat very occasionally!

nekobus · 09/08/2016 21:09

Well done sestra's DD!

Saw this cauli rice and prawn curry pop up on my FB today, looks nice and easy:

I'm not totally back in the zone yet. I think it's the school holidays that are throwing me out of routine, I was weak and had a magnum when buying kids a treat ice cream this afternoon. Must do better!!

Bonjours les tous! Nearly at the end of our hols so posting and running...

Been mostly very LC, but rather too much of the vin cremillant et Le cidre brut artisanal. Managed to resist, with lots of sulking on my part, the bread, pastries and crepes. And now bored out of my skull of ham, cheese and salad. Apart from alcohol, the only thing I have done is have the odd (like three, on different days) unsweetened (though still pretty sweet and carby) fruit purée mixed with cream. So sweet after weeks of nothing sweet at all it has blown my head off.

So am hoping I have at least maintained my weight while here because it has been HARD WORK not indulging myself more than this. Holidays are usually a free for all for me, so been really difficult challenging those mental habits. I don't want to have undone all my good work so will be disappointed if I have gained any weight!

wombattoo · 10/08/2016 19:32

Hi everyone
Overcome - well done. 5lbs is amazing.
Sestra I'm really pleased for ds
Wilf it sounds like you've done great

Veryflummoxed · 10/08/2016 21:38

I'm returned from holiday and slinking back in seven pounds heavier. Today was back on track though. Cheese and cucumber and scratchings for lunch. Belly pork and green salad for dinner. I feel so much better for it too.
Wilf well done, you deserve ( ) ( ) ( ).

Flowers for StuntNun. Glad things are sorted now.

bambambaby · 11/08/2016 09:54

Can I hop in? I first started this WOE back in 2014 and lost 30 lbs quite easily but I've regained 12lbs over the past year so I'm half way down a very slippery slope and I need to stop now before I undo all my hard work.

I'm trying to remember the 'rules' - how many eggs a day are we allowed?

Anyway, here will be todays food - I'm not looking forward to the sugar cravings that I know will be coming hard and fast over the next few days.

Breakfast - BPC & 3 slices of ham
Lunch - 2 boiled eggs, cucumber sticks and FF mayo
Dinner - will see.

bettyblueeyes83 · 11/08/2016 11:58

Bambam I've never heard of a limit on eggs, other than the fact it's physically difficult to eat too many and it might have unwelcome digestive consequences!

All well here, my rogue additional five pounds have more or less gone after two days stricter (but not perfect...) LC and doing 16:8. Am going to keep up the 16:8 until holiday now, it seems to work well. Today I had a BPC after an early run as I wouldn't have got through to lunchtime otherwise, but my understanding is these don't really break the fast as they don't send insulin up?

Well done on your '10' something!

I'm no expert but I think all the specialist coffee nonsense is guff to get you to buy expensive branded products...

I put one tablespoon of butter with the same of coconut oil (I use Biona, the cuisine/flavourless one for this) into my blender with a hot cup of normal coffee from the cafetiere. (I might try adding vanilla next one I make.) Properly whoosh it up so it is completely blended. It goes lovely and frothy. For me it's a bit less acidic than black first thing, and is helpful for cutting back on diary (it turns out there is such a thing as too much cream for me, although I love it). Keeps me full for ages and a great way of getting your fat up with no additional carbs or protein. In the evenings I sometimes make a bulletproof chai latte with cinnamon on top.

But I'm a relatively recent convert - others might have greater expertise!
