Morning all!

for the last time this Bootcamp, is the Spreadsheet of Wonderfulness

I hope that this Bootcamp has been successful for you. I have to say, it's been one of the most trouble-free Grin

I'm certainly carrying on, and with a bit more focus Blush given that we now have a holiday booked in 11 weeks time, that will mean I need to be ready to don a swimsuit.

breakfastbap - I'm an (ex) IBS sufferer too. Hopefully, once your body has attuned to low carbing, you'll find it clears up. I started low carbing to lose weight, and was then astounded when I realised that my IBS had just disappeared!

If you've been following a low fat diet for a while - which most people have, to be honest, given government/NHS advice over the last 30 or so years - it may take you a while to get used to it.

But take heart from the fact that you're not suffering from constipation, which is what many low carbers initially complain about Grin

Papaver - what are you struggling with? How can we help?

Very up for boot camp in October. Thank you BIWI for doing this.

Hope you are OK papaver.

I'm not doing so well on shifting the 'water' weight. Maybe it's not water...anyway. I'm also not getting scales tk budge much. August was just 1 kilo down. But inch wise I've lost a fair bit round the top even tho I've done no exercise. Huh.

Anyway its still better than either carbs so I'm keeping ar it.

breakfastbap · 01/09/2016 11:27

Thanks BIWI - despite the horrible evening of an upset tummy today I feel amazing! Woke up feeling very refreshed and 'cleaned out' Grin with loads of energy.

Todays food will be
B - 2 eggs with butter
L - 2 peppered piri piri mackerel fillets with pepper and cucumber sticks and mayo
D - Probably a bolognese type stuff (without the pasta) just the mince and veg in a tomato sauce. - this may be carby though?

PapaverSomniferum · 01/09/2016 13:19

BIWI I'm feeling queasy at the thought of most food. When I eat, my throat seems to close up and I semi-gag. It seems to be worse with fatty food. I can't think of anything that I want to eat, which is a problem, because dinner is usually the highlight of our day! I haven't enjoyed my evening meals for the last few nights, haven't been able to eat enough that I feel satisfied (because of the gagging thing), and have to have a big bowl of yoghurt and cream afterwards. I can manage ok in the day; cheese is fine, tomatoes are ok, the crustless quiche is fine, creme fraiche/trout is fine, but even the chicken liver parfait made me gag yesterday and now the thought of it makes me feel queasy.

The last couple of nights I've cobbled together dinner and then really not enjoyed it. I need to plan meals I really fancy, but I can't think of anything that doesn't make me feel queasy. I assume it's being in ketosis that's making me feel like this. It's happened on past bootcamps, too, and it's why I haven't stuck with the last few.

Thanks for the support, BIWI and last. Smile

PapaverSomniferum · 01/09/2016 13:27

I'm also getting intermittent but spectacular diarrhoea. Had to take immodium two days of the weekend and it's bad today, too. Not feeling great.

PapaverSomniferum · 01/09/2016 21:42

Food today:
L- quiche
D- smoked mackerel with cauliflower and cavolo nero mash.

notsoold · 02/09/2016 04:28

Please can I join in October????

ReggaeShark · 02/09/2016 08:33

Got on the scales yesterday. Only one lb up but also put on 1 on holiday. Back on it. Had moussagne for dinner (cross between lasagne and moussaka). Was delish. Lunch was smoked mackerel with left over cauliflower tabbouleh (BBC good food recipe minus the pomegranate). Have also been enjoying sainsburys Tatziki with added dried mint and mixed with low carb mayo to up the fat and lower the carb count. And found the new whipped Philadelphia is lower carb than unwhipped and easier to spread in lower quantities as softer. Out for lunch today so not sure what will be available.

notso BIWI usually starts a 'sign up' thread nearer the time a boot camp is due to start. You will be very welcome.

Hi all, I'm still here plodding along. Scales have stayed the same since the original 4lb loss which I assume was water.

Does anyone else feel a bit 'wired' its the only way I can describe it? I wake in the morning after sleeping well with the most horrible taste in my moth - my teeth feel disgusting. When i get up im a bit shaky and strung out feeling but this goes away a bit when ive had a cuppa and food.

Yesterdays food
B - 2 eggs and butter, half a piece of smoked mackerel
L - half a block of FF feta cheese and green salad
D - 4 egg omelette with cheese and ham
Tiny packet of scratchings
Couple of cups of tea and loads (at least 2 litres) of water

Today will be
B - block of chicken liver parfait and cucumber sticks
L - Green salad with tuna in oil
D - Sirloin steak with buttered mushrooms / grilled peppers

I'm really hoping there'll be a step change on the scales soon, i get a bit defeated when I cant see a change to spur me on but to be fair my stomach feels flatter and I dont have any bloating at all.

BIWI · 03/09/2016 08:16

You're not eating much veg at all, breakfast - so it's very, very low carb. You don't need to go that low, and you need the nutrients from veg so I'd definitely suggest that you up that.

The taste in your mouth, although not pleasant, is a good sign though - it means you're definitely in ketosis. It should be temporary. In the meantime, drink plenty (even more) water, keep your fat levels high and also make sure you're getting enough sodium, magnesium and potassium - key electrolytes. So make sure you cook with salt, and add it to food. Salmon, spinach, avocado and full fat natural yoghurt are also good things to include in your diet.

But you also need to be aware that it's very common for weight loss to slow/stop in weeks 3 and 4. It's nothing that you're doing, it's just your body adjusting to things.

All sounds like it's going very well so far, so keep on keeping on! Grin

Okay, thanks so much BIWI. I really appreciate you taking the time to post and give me advice. Ive been used to years of 'slimming world' type diets so to adjust to this very different way of eating is a complete change.
I'll up the veg - actually I'll be glad to do this. I think its portion sizes I'm going to have trouble with. I still have the 'slimming world' concept of filling your plate with veg.

BIWI · 03/09/2016 17:21

If you're eating enough fat and protein (which it looks like you are!) you should find that you're not really hungry anyway - so you won't want to overfill your plate.

Am properly back on the LC wagon after holiday but am going thru mild carb flu and feel totally drained. I forgot my supplements the last two days so have just taken those and drank a cup of bouillon. Praying I don't wake at five am with leg cramps like the previous times I felt like this! But the weight is shooting off and I'm already lower than my pre-holiday weight so I'm not complaining. And it feels so good to be back in the groove enjoying my fave LC foods. Smile

breakfastbap · 03/09/2016 19:37

Well done Betty (love that musical) if you don't mind posting a few examples of what you eat? I've been doing this for about 2 weeks but I can't exactly say the weight is falling off, I've lost about 4lbs. Since Monday ive not lost an ounce 😡

bettyblueeyes83 · 03/09/2016 21:35

2lbs per week average is great! Normally it's much slower going for me but I thinking I've basically just lost the water/glycogen from my holiday carb-fest.

Today I've had:

Breakfast: FF Greek yog and a splash of double cream with raspberries, coconut flakes and vanilla
Lunch: Sarah wilson's paleo 'inside out' almond flour bread (includes bacon, Parmesan, courgettes and green olives) with butter
Dinner: home made cheese burgers with wilted garlic rocket, gherkins, sauerkraut, avocado and mustard mayo
Snacks: iced coffee with cream, matcha latte made with unsweetened almond milk and unsweetened matcha powder, bouillon drink, 'mint choc' psyllium husk/chia seed high fibre pudding

It wasn't a strict LC day, because of the snacks and 'bread', so more processed foods than ideal. Also in retrospect a day of overhyped hipster 'superfood' ingredients! But yummy and filling.

margaritasbythesea · 03/09/2016 23:13

Gosh you have exciting drinks Betty. Smile

NotdeadyetBOING · 04/09/2016 06:53

Hi guys. I am back after a few weeks away and spectacularly off the wagon. I dare not weigh myself - tight clothes tell a very clear story. I have a terrifying work week ahead and would like to avoid bad carb 'flu. So wondering if it might be an idea to ease myself in over a few days so I get to the super low carb level, but not overnight. Any view on that, BIWI?

SestraClone · 04/09/2016 10:03

Creeping back in after a week wallowing in carby twatness Blush

Glad to see so many enjoying the velvet pork chops - I tried it with a cheap steak/beef stock and it was also delicious! Added mushrooms & shallot to the sauce as well.

breakfastbap · 04/09/2016 10:45

What about gravy? How can I make it thick? I use the meat juices (guessing that's ok)l I have slow cooked beef today - should I just pour a little of the meat juice over the meat unthickened and just add butter to my veggies so it's not all so dry?

PapaverSomniferum · 04/09/2016 11:28

I think I'm going to have to bow out; this really isn't suiting my body and I'm fed up with feeling queasy and gagging all the time. Back to the drawing board. Sad
