Morning all!

Not a good day for me. Have had a horrible night's sleep (i.e. hardly any) because I have a really nasty cold, which is making breathing difficult.

Have a full-on day at work to look forward to as well, which is nice.

Anyway, here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you all

Just two more weeks to go, so let's keep this last fortnight a strict one.

Nearly killed me Grin

notdead. He didn't add anything else. Just pressed it down firmly in the pan and made sure we'll cooked before turning. Very gentle turning needed as it is fairly fragile. End result cut into portions and lifted from the pan with an egg slice.

Veryflummoxed · 12/07/2016 08:04

Well cookedSmile

lasttimeround · 12/07/2016 09:06

Hope you're feeling better today BIWI.

I'm up 2 lbs but that's the summer holiday behind me and I think much of it will be from eating carbs the last 2 days so it will go again once I'm back on the wagon. I was interested to see how once I'd started on carbs I was having to constantly debate snacking or treating myself. Every bakery every donut stand I was having these constant should I?shouldn't I? moments. Compared to that low carb is just less stressful. Once you get over that nasty hump of carb withdrawal -although im finding that also easier this time round.

Do some people just continue eating this way long term?

RoundTheBend · 12/07/2016 09:12

I am smiling here. I lost 4lbs so that is 10lbs overall for me so far. I have only really got my head in the right space for the past two weeks, so I will KOKO. Grin

Your weightloss is fab Pippilotta!

DoctoraNova · 12/07/2016 09:24

I think I will concur eating low carb long term, I think it's the healthiest way to eat. I think it's very similar to a Mediterranean diet - rich in vegetables, oils and fish. It's makes a lot of sense.

I wonder how I could incorporate more low carb into my diets. I feel like every time I give them breakfast cereal I'm poisoning them, but both suffer with constipation and a bowl of weetabix every morning keeps them regular. They used to always have an egg each for breakfast and both have had very bad constipation. My daughter is just getting regular now after 9 months of hard going treatment and management. Weetabix, pears and prune juice seem to keep them regular, but they aren't low carb. I don't give them sandwiches or potatoes, and I make a pasta dinner less than once a week.

Anyone have any ideas? I don't want to provide a low carb diet that is only sustainable if they take medication for constipation, but eggs, cheese and meat is a sure fire recipe for tears in our house.

BIWI · 12/07/2016 09:42

Why not switch to something like wholemeal toast, with poached or scrambled eggs? Or even beans on wholemeal toast? OK, baked beans aren't especially low carb, but they're a lot better than cereal!

Glad someone mentioned carb withdrawal there - I felt really on edge yesterday, anxious almost which isn't me at all. Could it be carb withdrawal? Did anyone else get that, and if so how long does it go on?!

margaritasbythesea · 12/07/2016 10:25

My children have one of the following: crackers with cheese or pepperoni, wholemeal toast with olive oil, boiled eggs with toast, the odd bowl of porridge or jam sandwich.

This entirely their own choice and not imposed by me. They've been doing it since they were toddlers. I must say I don't allow them to have cereal unless they are poorly, we're late or they choose to give up their pudding after dinner. They have pudding at school and after dinner at home and I think that is quite enough refined sugar in a day. If they want cereal too , they have to swap.

margaritasbythesea · 12/07/2016 10:27

p.s. I did get my birthday present on the scales but I finally have to confess it is impossible to read my new scales properly. I am chalking it up as 1lb. Could mean anything!

NotdeadyetBOING · 12/07/2016 10:34

Many thanks, Veryflummoxed. Going to give it a try….

Veryflummoxed · 12/07/2016 11:38

My ds ten has Greek yogurt, berries, porridge (all in separate bowls because he's funny that waySmile) every school day. Weekends eggs with whole meal toast or something similar. When I did Dukan a while back one of the rules was a portion of oat bran every day. My son was equally happy to eat that as porridge and sometimes I did a mix.

Veryflummoxed · 12/07/2016 11:39

Hope people like the Rosti. Feel a bit responsible nowGrin

SestraClone · 12/07/2016 11:39

My Morrisons still have celeriac in, they are quite small just now though!

Flisspaps · 12/07/2016 12:16

DoctorNova "I wonder how I could incorporate more low carb into my diets. I feel like every time I give them breakfast cereal I'm poisoning them"

I'm glad it's not just me. My DC seem to survive entirely on white carbs and I've rapidly come to hate it. They won't eat meat (only sausages, hot dog sausages, fish fingers and chicken nuggets), very little in the way of veg gets past them and DH expects a carb with his meals. It's frustrating because as babies they ate anything and everything.

DD is 6, PCOS runs in my family and I've noticed she's already quite a hairy little thing (she's fair but it's quite noticeable already) so if I can tweak the DCs food now, hopefully if she does have PCOS it will be easier for her to manage if as she'll be used to this way of eating.

Flisspaps · 12/07/2016 12:19

Today's food:

B - bacon, scrambled eggs, cherry tomatoes

L - salad, bacon, halloumi, oily dressing, avocado. Greek yoghurt with a few strawberries.

T - Spanish chicken (skin on thighs/drumsticks, small pepper, mushrooms, chorizo, tinned tomatoes)!salad with garlic oil (garlic bread for DH)

2lb off this morning following yesterday's weigh in. What a difference a day makes.!

DoctoraNova · 12/07/2016 14:55

Ok, so just looked at the nutritional information on the side of the weetabix, and it's sixty something percent carbs, but only 4% sugars. So, the rest is fibre? If so, is that low carb???

I had been talking to a friend about breakfast meals for the kids and came up with porridge with hazelnut/almond milk, berries and/or nuts. Which they would love. And every other day eggs. Am just worried that they'll get constipated again. But it would be great to get away from processed breakfast cereal, even though I do think weetabix and shredded wheat are the least worst of them.

Someone asked about anxiety symptoms: could be low blood pressure? Drink more water and add salt to food and see if that helps. I had it too and this helped.

BIWI · 12/07/2016 15:28

No - that's 69g carbs! Weetabix is not low carb at all. It's made from wheat ... Wink

SestraClone · 12/07/2016 15:33

Doctor, can you add flaxseed to their porridge for fibre?

MothershipG · 12/07/2016 16:05

Hello all just popping in to say that abstaining from dairy has done the trick and I have finally broken my stall, only 2lbs but definitely movement in the right direction.

Interestingly sugar and bread cravings are worse than ever. I have an overwhelming desire to bake! I don't want to buy something, I specifically want to make sour dough or a cake or biscuits. Doesn't help that I work in a library and we had some lovely cookbooks in our new stock today.

SestraClone · 12/07/2016 16:15

Well done on the loss MothershipG :) I know it has been a long slog for you!

PippilottaViktualia · 12/07/2016 16:41

Well done Mothership ! Smile now that you've dropped your dairy is your fat intake still high enough? Just thinking about those cravings...

Doctora there is a school of thought that a high fat diet is very good for constipation... So instead of fibre lots of fat. My son has a dairy allergy and when he was little always had constipation problems, but he know eats high fat and he is always nice and regular. An idea?

DoctoraNova · 12/07/2016 16:58

Ok, ok, no more weetabix. Yes to linseeds, I'll mill them and add them to porridge.

True about the fat being a "lubricant", just I sometimes get stuck in old patterns of thinking. Afterall, linseeds are high in fate, and they work a charm. Thanks to everyone for their input.

I so badly want for this to fit into my life. Not just to be a "diet". The typical western modern diet model sucks. It makes me so angry that the health of so many has been sold out for the sake of money for so few. And the misinformation.

Well done, Mothership, breaking through a stall takes Trojan effort but brings such relief to see the scales move again! Maybe it'll even turn into a big whoosh???!

SestraClone · 12/07/2016 18:11

My celeriac rosti fell apart! Tasted amazing still though, so definitely something to experiment with. Had it with a pork chop with crispy fat - yum!

Veryflummoxed · 12/07/2016 20:11

Glad you liked it Sestraclone. Well done Mothership, glad you've got a result.

L boiled egg cheddar cheese olives and dressed leaves.

S dinner was delayed and I was Hungry so picked at meat from the fridge.

D asparagus soup and leftovers from last night. Too much because I'd left it late and got Hungry.
Nothing like enough water
