Low-carb bootcamp

Week 8 - Pre-summer Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all!

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here

Looks, at last, as if we have a bit of sunshine - at least Darn Sarf.

A bit of a less fraught week for me, so it may even be possible that I hit the gym mid-week, which I haven't done for months.

I'm avoiding the scales this Bootcamp, but tried on a couple of dresses I bought a few weeks ago, which were a little on the tight side. One of them fits perfectly now, and the other one is almost there, so I know things are working. But I know that I've a way to go before I'm 'there'!

Hope those of you who are weighing have a good result today!

Here's to another successful week.

Try to get hold of some raspberry vinegar - it's truly gorgeous with that!

I had roasted radishes for the first time and they were lush - i dont like them usually.

I am struggling to get back on the bandwagon. My failing is a lack of preparation so i have some home made chicken stock in the slow cooker and i will be making a jalapeno and bacon soup tomorrow and bulk cooking a load of lchf meals. I can only do this this when i am organised.

Washing from my holiday is done so i have no excuse now - except non sleeping, nap refusing grumpy toddler! Hitting Lidl in the morning and cooking all afternoon when i am home after cuddles with friends new baby. My digestive system feels wrong, all rumbly and sore and i dont like this constant hungry feeling. By monday i should be in the zone again.

gcal I've been reading all you've written with interest as I have pros and tend to over do protein.

I have fallen seriously off the wagon the last two days but there was celebrating to do. It involved chocolates, all other forms of sugar and savoury pastry items. Blush

I'm back on it from today. I don't know what the damage has been as I've been too scared to get on the scales (daily weigher). Hopefully the exercise I'm starting tmr will counteract things.

Thanks BIWI! Noted re the dairy! I'll try to cut back. I was semi-aware of it but it's good to have it pointed out. Smile

You may be fine - you may not have an issue with dairy - but it's something to keep an eye on

Not too bad today, bit more back on track although ate too much cheese waiting for dinner to cook late this eve and had feta twice!

B: scrambled eggs, butter, avocado
L: tuna mayo, feta, olives and salad
D: red pesto chicken feta casserole, Mediterranean veg
S: gherkins, cheese, Pret egg/salmon protein pot

B a sausage in the car
Lunch cheese olives and pickles
S more off the above
D belly pork cauliflower and broccoli. And (way too much) swede.
Lots of food today.

That sauerkraut recipe looked interesting.

Sorry, it's very childish but 'a sausage in the car' has tickled me for some reason! Grin

Can I have some advice for DP? He's stopped losing weight and he's getting a bit despondent.

He has a lot to lose so was hoping for to keep getting a loss of some kind each week but nothing for 3.

His daily diet is,

Eggs for breakfast (usually scrambled with cream with salmon or bacon)
Coffee with cream

Chicken salad for lunch with a cube of cheese or 2.

Dinner yesterday was coconut chicken curry and caulirice.

We will often have pork belly with spinach and swede or celeriac mash as another example.

He will have some Greek yoghurt in the evening.

I don't know how much water he drinks in the day because he's at work all day, he usually has another coffee with soya milk.

Tbh I've not lost in a while either, what are we doing wrong?

Any advice?

The first thing I'd say is that it's not unusual to have a period where nothing happens, so don't panic. Weight loss isn't linear.

However, looking at your menus:

a) there's a lot of dairy - I'd cut that right back/out for a start
b) it sounds like there might not be enough fat, especially if you/he is eating a lot of chicken - go for something fattier, or make sure that you/he is adding more fat to the rest of the meal
c) if you're saying he's not sure about the amount of water, that usually means that someone isn't drinking enough!

Argh, my leg cramps are back with a vengeance! They start really early in the morning, before my alarm, and wake me up, it's horrible. Am still on the multivit/magnesium/potassium and taking them regularly so perhaps it's sodium this time, although I am salting all my meals.

Report
BIWI · 08/07/2016 08:47

info here on leg cramps

Are you taking magnesium/potassium as separate supplements or as part of a multi-vit? If the latter, then you won't be getting enough.

And definitely up your sodium (as well as the amount of water you're drinking). Try drinking Oxo/Bovril/Marmite hot drinks and see if that helps. Are you cooking with salt as well?

Thanks BIWI I'll pass that onto him. I think lunch is a struggle for him, he's only really got Subway Salad or M&S for options and everything seems to be low fat and lean with salad.

I know I eat a lot of dairy, I'll make a conscious effort to cut down.

Thanks BIWI, yes cooking with salt and have been taking separate supplements since I last had them a few weeks ago. Will get back on the bouillon!

Tits - there's loads of stuff he could buy in M&S that's low carb! He's just making an excuse if he's telling you he can't find anything!

For a start, all their sliced cooked meats, and fish, and prawns which he could have with a bag of salad. They sell olive oil and vinegar so he could make his own oily dressing.

Or, they do their Balanced for You (I think it's called) range, which has at least three meals in it that are low carb.

... or he could take in leftovers from home. It's easy to cook enough for one extra portion

wombat or Sayrra the spreadsheet seems to have lost the ubercamp recipes, apart from the one for celeriac chips!

I ate a lot (too much and felt sick) yesterday. Today I am quickly hungry. Yet it seems that the days I don't eat a lot at all I'm not hungry the next day. Anyone else noticed this?

Hello everyone! Still at goal weight from last time - thank you BIWI and everyone for the highly supportive threads - would never have got to 8.5 stone without you. On here again now for continued support with maintenance....

Another thing - my 17 yr old DD is also low carbing, for weight loss. Thing is, she gained a load of weight from taking anti-psychotics. A bit of a long and sorry story, but she's getting better. However, does anyone have any experience of low carbing for weight loss gained through having to take anti-psychotics? Will it be extra hard? I hope not, for her sake.
