Week 4 - Pre-summer Low Carb Bootcamp: are you KOKO?!

BIWI · 06/06/2016 07:40

Morning all!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Doom Fabulousness

Week 3 might not have been kind to you - and here's the warning that week 4 might be the same Sad

But hopefully by now you're starting to adjust to low carbing, and should be feeling some of the other benefits, even if the scales are resolutely ignoring you!

If you're struggling, come here and tell us about it. Don't self-sabotage by thinking 'oh fuck it' and diving into the carbs!

Ok so my advice to him will be:
Less dairy
Less processed food. How many mornings a week is sausages acceptable?

BIWI · 11/06/2016 17:48

There's no specific number, but definitely not every day!

And add veg and salad too - with lots of fat.

Bad food day yesterday, but have made up for it today by eating super well. No wine at all (unlikeyesterday).

FF yogurt for breakfast with blueberries and raspberries, egg salad for lunch and my roasted vegetable lasagna for dinner. Looks ugly but tastes amazing.

Gcal glad you're feeling better

Just catching up after a busy few days. I'm currently ravenous as have had lunch a friend's house who is doing Slimming World. I've managed to stay relatively LC (salad with chicken, salami and feta) but she made me a couple of coffees with milk and gave me a few too many berries which I ate - far too low fat. DH is doing DS's bedtime so we'll have pork belly slices for dinner later and in the meantime I'm scoffing salami and whatever high fat cooked meat I can find in the fridge.

I anticipate tomorrow being challenging too as we're having lunch at a different friend's house who will no doubt provide low carb low fat for lunch. I'll have to take some babybel and pepperami to eat in the car! Grin

Veryflummoxed · 11/06/2016 22:40

My food for the day
B prawns avocado fried haloumi.

No lunch as such but two snacks, one late morning the other early afternoon
Cheddar, cucumber slices with butter and Stilton on and a bit of beef.
Celery and Babybel crisps. I was amazed at how crisp the Babybel turned out, I didn't expect it at all.

D as last night. Beef, celeriac mash, swede and green veg, lots of butter.

Another week nearly over.

bettyblueeyes83 · 11/06/2016 23:18

Ate too much today, including nuts and milk, but think I did well at the seaside in Brighton with many carby temptations - even avoided delicious gelato when my friends had one and swerved buns and chips with burgers with dinner.

B: bacon, scrambled eggs and avocado, creamy coffee
L: chicken Caesar salad, cappuccino
D: beef burger with cheese and jalapeños, smoky slaw, small side salad
S: tea with milk, whole bag Aldi pistachios Blush, small white wine, aperol spritz

I'm telling myself Aperol spritz is relatively low carb - prosecco and soda water with splash aperol - is this right? I hope so!

Gcalgske · 11/06/2016 23:37

Thanks everyone, I'm still feeling ok but a little delicate. It's coming up for the anniversary of dads death plus I'm TTC after a very traumatic birth / near miss (or two) which left me with cPTSD and I'm branching no out in my maternal mental health campaigning so it all got a bit much.

www.drinksmixer.com/desc169.html

betty prosecco can be high ( I've always counted around 5g per glass) and looks like aperol is very sugary. I thought it was (just from taste) but this website seems to confirm (11g/ounce)

Gcalgske · 11/06/2016 23:39

I'd go with a very dry white wine with soda and crushed raspberry/ spritz of line.

reader77 · 12/06/2016 00:31

Hello all. Still at it here. Had some berries for the first time yesterday. Felt like cheating.

B- egg muffins
L- chicken and veg
D- lamb and buttered cabbage

I am just under 140lbs at 139 lbs. Sometimes I have not managed to drink more than 2 litres and wondered if that was why I was bouncing up and down the same 2lbs? But if you think 2 litres is OK perhaps it is something else? I start week 7 on Monday and have been bouncing up and down these 2 lbs since the start of week 2.

stilllovingmysleep · 12/06/2016 05:33

Gcalgske sorry to hear about what you're going through & hopefully things will get better soon.

Yay, at last the scales are going down more quickly... let's hope it lasts until monday at least, so that I can have the satisfaction of some visible weight loss on the spreadsheet!

It's not likely to be just the water - list out for me what you've been eating over the last few days and let me see if I can help.

GCalgske sounds tough. Are you sure you're not taking on too much?

stillloving that's good to hear!

One of the best low carb sites is the Diet Doctor, and here's a really good piece about low carbing generally which is definitely worth a read

I weighed in this morning because MIL is coming over today with lunch and dinner and I don't know what carb damage may be done. Am re-reading all the advice about how to handle it tactfully that you gave me earlier this week but am planning to bootcamp hard and avoid scales for the next few days.

Anyway, am happy to report a 2lb loss even though I'm in Week 3 and I know that I have been too free with the nuts, cream and cheese these past few days. Have been inexplicably hungry but my appetite seems more settled today. Am pleased to have had a decent loss anyway!

BIWI · 12/06/2016 08:41

That sounds good! Good luck with MIL's food ...

PlayNice · 12/06/2016 08:55

Congratulations, Laser! I hope that news keeps you strong :).

Further tips are: eat slowly! If there are carbs on your plate, eat really slowly and leave them. People are less likely to notice you haven't finished your meal if you finish at the same time as them. Focus on talking and drinking water or herbal tea.

Idk if dessert is going to be a problem, but if it is, maybe be too full, and ask to have it later. Even say that it's your favourite and there's NO WAY you're going to eat it on a full stomach and not appreciate it fully. And if it's mentioned again say that you have a real shit of a day on Monday and it would be amazing to save it for then - you'll be looking forward to it all day. Then throw it away once she's gone.

But, as I think other people said to me, it's a marathon and a long term thing, so if some carbs do happen, it won't be the end of the world! However, I am quite invested in the idea of you as a sneaky secret low carb agent, so let us know how you do!

nekobus · 12/06/2016 09:04

Good morning all. Can't believe we're about to head into week 5!

Gcal that sounds really tough - a lot going on.

Laser well done on the loss and good luck with MIL

Yesterday's food:
B - 2 hb egg with butter, coffee and cream, 1 babybel
L - 1 heck square sausage (2.8g carbs) in little gem with 2 fried eggs, mayo, dijon
D - bunless burger, bacon, cheese, coleslaw (from food stall at event - prob not v low carb but best option there) followed by cheese, hb egg, butter, olives when back home
S - one small pimms, some of DCs watermelon

Managed to avoid a lot of food at kids party (including holding a giant slice of what looked like the most moist and rich choc cake while DD played and came back at intervals for a bite. That was tricky but I didn't even lick a crumb!)

Good luck with weigh ins tomorrow.

I'm not sure what I'm having to eat today, I have promised the kids we'll make a cake for DHs birthday, so was thinking I might make one regular sponge cake for him and DCs and maybe try a flourless choc torte type things for me - off to google and check what links I've saved - can anyone recommend a LC cake/desert recipe?

bettyblueeyes83 · 12/06/2016 09:15

Gcal your alternative to Aperol Spritz sounds delicious. I'm going to ask for that next time and call it a Bootcamp Spritz!

LaserShark · 12/06/2016 09:37

Just made mayonnaise but only had dark extra virgin olive oil with the really strong flavour so it's not a triumph! Might be ok mixed with tuna. But the taste of the olive oil is so very overpowering.

nekobus, the Diet Doctor site has a recipe for low carb dark chocolate squares with peanuts that look amazing.

I know MIL is coming with special treats from her holiday which will be all my favourite French things - the pluses are that these will likely include dark chocolate and coffee! But there will also be cakes and crisps. Fortunately, I have two powerful allies in the shape of a 5yo and a 2yo who have a finely honed cake-radar. The toddler will actually prise food out of my mouth if it looks sufficiently appetising so I think that can be managed discreetly. I will just make sure I don't hurt her feelings and whatever I do have, I will make sure to fully enjoy!

ClopySow · 12/06/2016 10:05

I just actually did a double take when i saw myself in the mirror.

I have never really had a waist, but i do now. Most of my inch loss has gone from around my waist and under my boobs, none from my hips and only a small amount from my boobs. Whenever i've lost weight before the first place it comes off is my boobs.

This is sort of amazing.

nekobus · 12/06/2016 10:12

ClopySow, I have noticed this too! Looked at myself in mirror yesterday and I have a slimmer waist and thighs but boobs still same, usually on low cal high carb my boobs shrink and end up less than perky to put it politely!

Flisspaps · 12/06/2016 10:23

I've measured myself this morning and despite my gain last week, I'm 8 inches down in total. 2 of those are from my waist which I'm stunned about.

I weighed myself too and I appear to be going back down on the scales but I need to up my water and fat intake as I've slipped a bit and I'm a bit protein heavy in my meals.
