Week 4 - Pre-summer Low Carb Bootcamp: are you KOKO?!

BIWI · 06/06/2016 07:40

Morning all!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Doom Fabulousness

Week 3 might not have been kind to you - and here's the warning that week 4 might be the same Sad

But hopefully by now you're starting to adjust to low carbing, and should be feeling some of the other benefits, even if the scales are resolutely ignoring you!

If you're struggling, come here and tell us about it. Don't self-sabotage by thinking 'oh fuck it' and diving into the carbs!

I am a bit annoyed too. Weight static for the last 10 days. Don't have vast amount to lose which I'm sure is part of it - but still….. And wondering if the fact that we are losing FAT has something to do with it (as it doesn't weigh much).

Equiem89 · 11/06/2016 10:10

My OH has been low carbing since Wednesday and he hasn't lost a single pound. He has told me everything he has eaten and he drinking loads of water. We also checked on ketostix and he is in keto. I'm at a bit of a loss as I always get a big loss at the start, I've lost half a stone in my first week. He says he feels a bit smaller and not as bloated but I can tell he is frustrated. Any ideas?

BIWI · 11/06/2016 10:21

Get him to keep a food diary, and list everything he's eating and drinking.

And list out for me what he's been doing over the last few days.

How much does he have to lose?

OP posts:
CiderwithBuda · 11/06/2016 10:24

Just to keep at it Equiem. I'm sure it will come off. If he is feeling smaller get him to take his measurements. I moaned yesterday about no loss but I def feel smaller today.

princessconsuelabannahammock · 11/06/2016 10:34

I made metazza last night and it was yummy. I used a sun dried tomato pesto as the base (5.1g/100g) then topped it with a couple of slices of salami, grated mozzarella and parmesan and pickled green chillis. It was delicious and very filling. I then had a leftover slice for breakfast this morning - so just like proper pizza! I had a BPC so now feel totally stuffed.

Mookbark · 11/06/2016 11:27

Notquite Well done
Gcal I agree with the others, you are a very experienced and motivational poster, so hopefully we can do the same for you. Flowers Hope you are feeling more positive today.
Not If you haven't got much to lose, it will take a while. Have you measured? do you feel slimmer?

So, DH is definitely being dairy free as he thinks he may be lactose intolerant (getting abdo pain and diarrhoea), although why this should start at the grand old age of 47, I have no idea. Good news, it means I can have the left over frittata for lunch, bad news it means that main meals will now have to be either dairy free or something that I can add dairy to my bit, whilst he has the DF version. So, no more carbonara at the moment I guess it may help me to keep my dairy in check anyway.

I had one square of 90% choc last night (1.5g carb) and it was lovely, it was also enough. I used to regularly eat 50g (5 squares) of 70%, but just didn't see the need.
I'm working this weekend, but hoping it will be quiet. I especially hope I am home for the England match tonight. Grin At least with working, I don't have the drinking temptation. I would have had a drink last night otherwise as DS1 was stressing me out as he packed for his DofE expedition which he is on today oh boy, is he going to be grumpy when he gets home as it's been pouring down

Food today will be:
B - 2x creamy coffee
L - frittata, green salad, vinaigrette and mayo
D - something from the farm shop, possibly pork or chicken.
S - spicy chai latte, may have another square of choc

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

flyright · 11/06/2016 12:40

best wishes and positive thoughts to Gcal and Sarrya - such supportive posters.

Looks like there's a mix of positive stories, frustrations and real life problems - life basically.

Good luck to everyone for just accepting the curve balls and hopping back onto the wagon for a bit more KOKO. We'll get there in the end - just via a somewhat circuitous route.

I've been on the brink of giving up - still worried about my cheating with wine combining with high fat to just result in a high calorie diet that doesn't work like a low carb one but have decided to carry on as after a few days of scale gains today was down a bit. And I know I need to look at the overtime trend and not get stressed about individual days - or individual weeks come to that.

My parents are coming up for a barbeque tonight so lots of the right food is on the way - halloumi, stuffed mushrooms with dolcelatte, chicken, beef, salad, roast new potatoes for the others - and I'll just have to limit the wine. And really hope the rain stays away.

I have a feeling Monday weigh in will be a STS but I shall plod on. 4 pounds a month would be a stone and half down at Christmas. That's got to be a realistic target.

nekobus · 11/06/2016 13:41

Flowers* for Gcal*, as others have said you are so supportive on these threads it is much appreciated, please post here if you need support yourself, anxiety is an awful thing to experience please come on and chat even if just to calm your mind Smile it doesn't have to be about LC-ing (((un-mumsnetty hugs)))

Cider, I kept reading about your heck sausages - square ones (we are scots living in SE England) so just had to try them when I spotted them on offer in our Waitrose. Got the chicken ones too. Have just had one of the square ones with a fried egg, mayo and mustard in little gem wraps - delicious! (Although DH was despairing that there was too much meat and not enough sawdust and gristle to be like a 'slice' as they are known where he comes from!) will be getting them again as a healthy alternative to the real thing Grinas kids can have them too

I think one of the things I do have to point out/caution you all about is that at this stage of Bootcamp you're only going to be losing 1-2lbs a week (obviously this also depends on how much you have to lose).

And despite the fact that the food is generally pretty delicious and satisfying, we are still on a diet, so you do need to be a bit strict with yourselves.

You can't suddenly throw nuts and fruit and chocolate and alcohol into your day and then expect to lose a lot every week!

Gcalgske · 11/06/2016 13:59

Thanks guys. I had the icecream but it's low carb and less than 4g worth. Not ideal but not the end other world. Went to see my psychologist too so head has been shrunk and schema button switched off. Feel a bit better.

Glad you're feeling a bit better, Gcalgske Flowers

Have been out to lunch with a friend. Had a slice of sourdough with my eggs benedict/avocado/smoked salmon. And then a slice of 'Jaffa cake' - basically orange flavoured sponge with a dark chocolate ganache.

Now feel nauseous and bloated from sugar and flour. Have got loads of work to do and just want to nap. And the cake wasn't even that nice.

To think, I used to feel like this all the time. Let me be a terrible warning to you all Sad

Equiem89 · 11/06/2016 16:30

Sorry been out all day.
For the last couple of days he's had black farmer sausages for breakfast, lunch was tesco hot smoked salmon fillets with lemon and parsley, some Mayo, chorizo, he had three babybels as a snack. Dinner last night was rib eye cooked in butter, served with garlic butter, peppers, mushrooms and a few shallots all cooked in butter. He had some Mayo with dinner. He also had a few coffees with double cream.
The one thing I can think of is too much dairy.
He does have weight to lose, he won't tell me exactly how much he weighs but he is 6ft4 and over 16st. He's been on two stag do's abroad where's he's eaten and drunk rubbish. It goes straight to his belly, he's looking top heavy at the moment.

CiderwithBuda · 11/06/2016 16:47

Biwi - what do you mean we can't have chocolate, nuts fruit and alcohol and lose weight??? No fair! Smile

Gcalgske glad things are seeming better.

Equiem - could be the dairy. Could be portion size. He might get a sudden whoosh. Is he drinking enough water for his height and weight?

Titsalinabumsquash · 11/06/2016 17:01

Sorry I've been absent ave had the week from hell.
2 children in hospital (1 now discharged) and DS1 who's still in needs to be transferred to London but they're being absolute arses about me taking bfed dd.
I'm doing ok diet wise except yesterday I hit a real 'woe is me' low mood and when dd rammed a chocolate digestive she's sucked in my mouth I ate it, normally I make yum yum noises and remove it.
I jumped back on the wagon though and made a pulled pork shoulder today that I had with a big green avocado salad and tonight I'll stick some chilli in it and have with cauli rice.

I'm not sure the weight is going but I'm deffo looking slimmer so the scales can bog off!

Mookbark · 11/06/2016 17:02

Equiem I think we may be married to the same man. Grin I think my DH is a very similar size and shape to yours. My only comments on the food were similar to Ciders i.e. Dairy and portion size. Also a bit of processed meat if he's having sausages every breakfast.
Gcal, glad you are feeling a bit better.
Saffy it's just not worth it, is it?
BIWI I'm going to sit down and watch the Wales, then the England matches now. Without beer or snacks. Grin See, I do know it's a diet although I prefer to think of it as a WOE as I don't intend to go back to high carb again as even if I wasn't losing weight I just feel better.

Mookbark · 11/06/2016 17:05

Tits we cross posted, but Flowers for you. Don't be too hard on yourself, that sounds really tough. I hope your DC is getting better. If I'd had one, never mind two, DC in hospital, I'm pretty sure I would have fell face first into a bucket load of carbs.

BIWI · 11/06/2016 17:14

Is he supposed to be doing Bootcamp?

Where on earth is all his veg?! He's basically eating a high protein diet, which won't be helping.

It's highly likely there isn't enough fat in that diet, as well as there being too much protein.

And there's a lot of dairy - "a few coffees with double cream" will soon add up to be quite carby as well.

And how much water has he been drinking?

OP posts:
BIWI · 11/06/2016 17:15

Oh, and yes - sausages, chorizo and the smoked salmon are all processed foods, so they really should be avoided if possible. Every now and then, but not every day.

I think, if he's supposed to be following Bootcamp, that you both read the rules again!

OP posts:
Equiem89 · 11/06/2016 17:16

He said he drank 4 litres yesterday and was weeing all the time so I think he's drinking enough.
He's going to do eggs for breakfast tomorrow. Not sure about lunch yet. I'm going to make a clean curry with cauliflower rice for dinner

BIWI · 11/06/2016 17:18

Sorry to hear that you're having such a hard time Titsalina Sad But well done for staying strong!

OP posts:
Equiem89 · 11/06/2016 17:18

No he's not doing bootcamp. Sorry realised I missed out the green salad he had with lunch. I told him today he needs to have olive oil with his salad rather than mayo

BIWI · 11/06/2016 17:19

... or both! Grin

Just popping head round door....had a tough week health wise but KOKO and have all but lost the 6lbs I appeared to have gained at the beginning of the week!
See you all on the week 5 thread (which is technically my week 2)
