Ask anything you want here!

Hopefully between me and some of the other experienced Bootcampers we can answer your questions.

Someone mentioned 'grumpiness' as a symptom of 'carb flu' upthread. I'm just wondering if it's possible/common to have irritability as the only symptom? I generally feel fine: I'm not hungry or tired or flu-like. But I feel like I'm on a short fuse and I've got cross (and shown it) with two of my bosses/superiors, which is very out of character! I've got to run a staff training day tomorrow and the thought of it just makes me want to either run away or murder all my colleagues! Angry Grin

SoMuchToBits · 17/05/2016 19:21

The mince was from the local butcher, so not sure how much fat in it. I have been eating some fatty meat (roast pork with crackling), but generally prefer fish/chicken/cheese, so don't generally eat a lot of meat. I have been putting butter on my veg and eating mayo in most of my salads, and eating quite a few avocados though.

I suppose I can try cutting down dairy - I've hardly eaten any yoghurt anyway, but have been having some cream. Stopping cheese will be hard though - I love cheese! In that case I'll need to find something else that's easy for snacks, until I stop feeling hungry.

Hello, I'm a Bootcamp lurker, delurking! I was wondering - where do we stand on tahini? I was hoping to make moutabel for my lunches (aubergine, lemon, garlic, tahini, yoghurt) but I'm not sure if tahini is allowed yet given the nuts/seeds prohibition. If it helps, my jar says it has 1.9g carbs per 100g. Thanks!

wombattoo · 17/05/2016 19:43

Hello Brek - I don't claim to be an expert, but I would imagine that you only need 1 teaspoon of tahini? I would have thought that it wouldn't make a great deal of difference per portion.

betty - I don't know the answer to your question. It hasn't affected me in that way

BIWI · 17/05/2016 19:44

If it's that low, Brek, then it's fine.

SoMuch it's definitely worth you trying to get fattier meat into your diet, as this will make a real difference to you. Try chicken thighs rather than chicken breast (and make sure that you eat the skin), and eat mackerel rather than less fatty fish.

Thanks wombat and BIWI Smile I would usually use about 30g per aubergine, but I would expect that to do at least 4 portions, so about 1/2 tbsp per portion, which isn't much in the way of carbs. I thoroughly recommend it by the way - fantastic loaded onto celery or green pepper.

trixymalixy · 17/05/2016 20:03

Butter is unlimited right? I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable about how much I've just eaten with my steak and spinach!

wombattoo · 17/05/2016 20:04

Butter is great trix

SoMuchToBits · 17/05/2016 20:26

I have been eating chicken thighs with skin for main courses, and any chicken in salads has been breast, but baked in butter, and have added the buttery juices to the salad.

I don't like mackerel very much, but am cooking my salmon in butter.

Will try to look for some meat recipes though (most of the meat I eat is a roast once a week, and Bolognese every so often - I just don't cook meat much).

Oh bugger that posted twice! Blush

SayrraT · 17/05/2016 21:01

trix don't worry about butter, sometimes I've eaten a slice as a snack. Mmmm, especially the crunchy salty stuff Smile

BIWI · 17/05/2016 21:09

SoMuch - you haven't got that much to lose, really, so I don't think your loss is going to be massive each week.

Thanks biwi

Eva50 · 18/05/2016 07:51

How much FF yogurt are people eating for a meal. Would the 200g tub be too much?

Hopefully yours, etc.

SayrraT · 18/05/2016 08:19

How many carbs per 100g Eva I try to have 100/120g at 4.8g per 100g. But I did eat a 170g tub of total the other day.

BIWI · 18/05/2016 08:28

That's a lot of carbs from something that isn't a vegetable or salad, Eva.

I'd try and keep it to half of that amount if I were you.

bettyblueeyes sorry to hear that you're feeling so grumpy. It wouldn't surprise me it if it was to do with carb withdrawal, and so much of this is about our hormones being out of whack! Hopefully you'll be feeling better soon.

FaithAscending · 18/05/2016 09:25

Another question about constipation: I've been LC for 10 days. It's been a revelation, I've hardly felt hungry, really enjoyed my food and once I got past the grumpy stage generally feel great, but I am very constipated - difficulty going and bad stomach cramps. What's the best approach to relieving this without going back to my old ways?

BIWI · 18/05/2016 09:35

Lots of fat and water - which you should be doing anyway!

Are you eating plenty of veg and salad? Look to increase this anyway - if you're eating very low carb veg (like mushrooms and spinach for example, go for something slightly carbier. Check on the list on the spreadsheet.

A strong coffee (careful with the milk), and a high strength vitamin C tablet are also supposed to help.

And a bit of exercise should also help.

Ok thanks. I think my biggest issue is work, I struggle to drink enough at work (think busy nurse!) so after two long days I haven't drunk enough. Working on that now with water and a slice of lemon. I think I probably do need to eat more fat, there's an avocado in the fridge I'll have for lunch!

Eva50 · 18/05/2016 10:37

Ah! Thank you. It's total yogurt I have and, so far, have just been eating half but am greedy craving it.

I'm feeling better today. Only a slight headache and sore muscles but I have fibromyalgia so that's not unusual. I actually feel quite energetic for me.

B. poached egg, heck italia sausages, mushrooms and spinach in butter. Coffee with cream.

L. smoked salmon salad with mayo

D. bacon wrapped chicken breast in a buttery sauce, cabbage, celeriac mash with butter.

S. Ff yogurt

Mmmmm, it sounds an awful lot.

Eva50 · 18/05/2016 10:39

Whoops, I posted that on the wrong thread. Perhaps I'm still a bit fuzzy headed!

Nateismine · 18/05/2016 12:45

Hi

I know the rules are unlimited butter but I can't quite get my head round that.

Eg I have scrambled eggs most mornings, should I have 15g of butter with that or 30g or 50g.....will the amount of butter have any effect on weight loss?

Thanks

Mookbark · 18/05/2016 12:45

Hi BIWI Can I ask about worcester sauce? Yes or no? I was preparing a beef stroganoff for the slow cooker last night and the recipe said a tablespoon of it. This would be for four servings. There was no nutritional info on the bottle, and as it happened, it was irrelevant as the bottle was empty! Just wondering whether to replace the bottle or not.

Thanks

margaritasbythesea · 18/05/2016 12:57

I'm still not sure I get the milk thing. Cream is 3.6g per 100 ml, that yoghurt upthread is 4.6 and milk I 5. I get that it's higher but not alot. If it's just a bit in tea is it ok?
