Ask anything you want here!

Hopefully between me and some of the other experienced Bootcampers we can answer your questions.

Good oh
I don't mind it for breakfast
Next question
What to eat at my worst point of the day - kids tea? Second helping of salad maybe??

kissmelittleass · 17/05/2016 11:53

I take it we can have as much good veg as we want? I have had a full plate of cauliflower and Savoy cabbage mashed with butter the last few evenings. Very satisfying and yummy, just hope I haven't had too much?

BIWI · 17/05/2016 11:59

Depends what you mean by 'good veg', kissme! Anything around 3g carbs per 100g is fine. Just eat what you need to satisfy you - but it's not carte blanche to stuff your face unnecessarily Grin

Olivia just make sure you aren't hungry when doing the kids tea! Cubes of cheese are good. Or give your kids a low carb tea, so that if you pick at it, it will be fine.

kissmelittleass · 17/05/2016 12:10

When I said 'good veg' I meant the lower carb veg.

BIWI · 17/05/2016 12:11

yes, absolutely fine (and sounds lovely!)

I'm struggling with the water, I really don't like drinking water at the best of times (really hate fizzy water) and I know overall I don't drink enough, so how can I make it more appealing? I usually drink sugar free grapefruit squash.

I also drink WholeEarth coffee substitute but I've just looked at the jar and it's 82g of carbs/100g!! Does that mean I need to give up this as well? Sad I only use 1 tsp, so 2g tops and only have one or two cups/day.

It's only day 2 and I'm struggling, I want some bread or crackers, fruit and normal breakfast. I've spent years getting used to skimmed milk and fat free yogurt and I don't like the full fat versions anymore, everything is too rich.

Sorry for the whinge.

BIWI · 17/05/2016 15:05
Grin

Whinge rather than cheat.

How about cutting up a grapefruit and putting slices in a jug of water? Then you'll get the flavour without the carbs.

Why are you drinking a coffee substitute?! If you promise me you're only having 1 or 2 cups, then that's OK - but are you putting milk in it?

What do you mean by a 'normal' breakfast?! Do you mean something that cereal manufacturers have persuaded us to buy? What's wrong with eggs? Or mushrooms and bacon?

I have been Low Carbing for 3 weeks now. I am finding it pretty easy to stick to, and love the food, and am not really missing most of the carbs. However, I'm still getting hungry between meals, and needing to have snacks, which I thought would have improved by now. I'm full enough after eating each meal, but seem to get hungry about 4 hours later. It's not too much of a problem between breakfast and lunch, as they are often only about 4 - 5 hours apart, but if I have lunch say at 1, I am hungry again at 5, and won't be eating dinner until about 7.30 most days.

I think I'm eating enough fat though. My usual meal pattern is as follows:- breakfast - an omelette (2 eggs, with either bacon, a small tomato and mushrooms, or spinach, mushrooms and cheese) cooked in butter.
Lunch is a salad - I always use either olive oil or a dollop of mayonnaise as a dressing. Salad always contains a protein element (prawns, chicken, feta, mozzarella, tuna & egg etc) and some salad leaves, cucumber etc plus often some avocado. Dinner varies, but some examples are bolognese (minced beef, olive oil, mushrooms, tomatoes, basil, shallots) with grated parmesan, + broccoli and asparagus with butter on. Or salmon in garlic and cream sauce with leeks sautéed in butter. 2l of water per day, plus a few cups of tea, which I am now having with double cream, having ditched the milk!

I just wondered whether I'm doing something wrong, as I still get peckish in the afternoons, and need a snack!

Also, would pesto be allowed on Bootcamp (in a recipe) or not?

BIWI · 17/05/2016 15:31

Then eat! Choose something low carb, like olives or cheese.

Are you losing weight?

OP posts:
SoMuchToBits · 17/05/2016 15:37

I am eating snacks (mostly olives and cheese actually! Grin), but thought I shouldn't need them by now.

I am losing weight, but quite slowly. 2lb the first week, nothing the second week, 1lb the third week.

MothershipG · 17/05/2016 15:55

Thanks for replying BIWI, I love the grapefruit idea, I thought I couldn't do that because it's fruit, so that's a relief.

A proper breakfast is overnight oats made with almond milk and a banana or fat free yogurt with my homemade sugar free baked granola.

I know it's no nuts the first 2 weeks, does that include almond milk? I was looking at the carton and it's only .1g/100g which looks pretty good to me!

Fake coffee is because I think the real stuff sets off my IBS. But I do drink it, and tea, black so that's marginally better.

How's Moscow? Grin

Myothercarisalsoshit · 17/05/2016 16:24

Hi Biwi, sorry I am new to this. Been LCing for 4 days now. Would it be possible to be added to the spreadsheet please?
Thank you

eleven59 · 17/05/2016 17:27

Today has been a revelation! I ate:

B: leftover beef and mushroom soup for breakfast, with two coffees with butter and coconut oil (sounds revolting and was sceptical but can't believe how lovely this is)
L: hard boiled egg, ham and cheese (was half way up a hill with the kids otherwise I'd've added salad
D: chicken thighs, broccoli, leeks and spinach. Desert of natural yoghurt.

No hunger, no shakiness, feel energetic.

Can someone add me to the spreadsheet please. I'm 145lbs and want to lose around 10lbs.

Thanks!!

wombattoo · 17/05/2016 17:42

Myother I've picked up your post from the main thread and will be adding you to the spreadsheet later.
eleven59 I will also add you.

Jealous that I missed the royal visit from Olivia

wombattoo · 17/05/2016 17:43

eleven come and join us on the main thread. You'll be made welcome.

BIWI · 17/05/2016 17:48

SoMuch I'd try two things, as weight loss seems a bit low, as well as you being hungry.

First, I'd try to choose fattier protein sources - chicken, prawns and salmon could be a bit too low in fat. Was your mince a high fat one? Add more fat too - so butter on all your veg, lots of mayo, etc.

And second, I'd try and give dairy a miss for a week to see if that makes any difference.

Mothership I think almond milk is OK

Moscow is - well, Moscow! I don't get time to see any of it. People are 'interesting' here - can actually be pretty rude. When they're nice, they're very nice, but it seems to be the exception. But hotel is clean, close to the facility I'm working in, food is good and the wifi is free and speedy!

Myothercar if you ask on the other thread, Sayrra or wombat will add you. We have so many people joining, Sayrra has to keep adding new rows to accommodate everyone! Oh and welcome Flowers

I know fruit and fruit juices are forbidden, but does a splash of lemon juice in cooking count? I thought I was being all clever making hollandaise sauce, it being mostly butter with an egg yolk, but it needs lemon juice, 1 tspn max. Surely that's ok? It doesn't make it sweet, and there can't be that many carbs in a teaspoon of lemon juice?

PresidentOliviaMumsnet · 17/05/2016 18:28

What works for low carb kids tea?

BIWI · 17/05/2016 18:33

Lemon juice in cooking is fine! As is lime juice.

Olivia Grin

Just avoid anything that's brown and you'll be fine.

I take it sesame oil and coconut are out for this first bit?

flipdoodle · 17/05/2016 18:40

Thanks BIWI.

Olivia - sausages. Lots of sausages. Grin

BIWI · 17/05/2016 18:43

margaritas - no, they're both fine.

Olivia Home made burgers, chicken 'breadcrumbed' in parmesan. Have a look at the recipe thread. Loads of good ideas there Grin
