Morning all

<a class="break-all" href="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Vwh_9-y9ejMjg_sFMCK38uoPqZZFps39T7RY-VdUaI8/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=0docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Vwh_9-y9ejMjg_sFMCK38uoPqZZFps39T7RY-VdUaI8/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here

No point me weighing in today as the weekend has been lovely shocking. My official weighing-in day is Friday, so hopefully all will be back to normal by then!

Those of you for whom the scales have slowed/stopped, in weeks 3 and 4, hopefully things will get moving again now.

I'm off to Leeds with work for a couple of days, so who knows what I'll be eating? I have, though, packed some boiled eggs, a pot of Total yoghurt and a couple of sachets of tuna in my little cool box, so I know that I have something to eat if the choices available to me aren't low carb.

Good luck all, and hope this is a good week for all of us

Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of part one
FoodPorn · 17/02/2016 15:28

betsy oh! Thank you! I was just adopting my usual lurking position and saw my name! Well done on your loss! I'm down 2 pounds this week and for once in my life didn't cheat on Valentine's Day. I am being ruthlessly strict (who am I and what have I done with the real FoodPorn?). My idea of cheating at the moment is having a glass of Diet Coke. DP (shortly to be DH) has joined although his version of boot camp allows clear spirits Friday-Sunday Grin. This is lower carb than the usual cider.

I made a huge tomato sauce for the freezer yesterday that I can't stop eating so today looks like this:
B - tomato sauce and feta
L - buttery scrambled eggs with tomato sauce and feta

AuntieMaggie · 17/02/2016 17:01

Not sure about this woe affecting periods but I'm on my second this month Hmm granted it's not as painful as normal but still!

Bolognese goes lovely with cauli cheese...

LexLoofah · 17/02/2016 18:24

felicity glad you are still with us, your lunch sounds lovely

Back home after 5 days away all BC lite compliant thanks to my lovely sister accommodating me

Spent the afternoon making grain free granola, stewing rhubarb and whipping up Mayo so I am all ready to keep it up

BippityBoppity · 17/02/2016 19:31

I'm KOKOing. I think I need to be more accountable with my foods - I've been a bit lax with my veg and I think there's a bit of carb creep going on - I'm starting to crave sugar again and feel a bit picky in the evenings. If I log here everyday (instead of weekly when I weigh) I'll be better & I'll look into mfp too.

Today I've had:

B - Boiled egg
L - Baby spinach, egg mayo & coleslaw
D - Mashed swede, steak with a cream & mozzarella mushroom sauce

Snacks - about 40g of peanuts

Water - about 1.5L. I'm still struggling with drinking enough - it's difficult in work, as I can't always get to the loo (sometimes 6 hours before I can go, more usually 3-4 hours). I'm trying to drink in the evenings but I keep waking up to go to the bathroom. Not sure what the answer is...

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 17/02/2016 19:34

Been out all day, so not the most successful day as i had to compromise around the food that was available. Have kept the water up though :)

FelicityFunknickle · 17/02/2016 19:48

Grain free granola ??

StuntNun · 17/02/2016 20:06

My new low carb love is celeriac smash. Fry 1 cm cubes of celeriac in olive oil seasoned with dried thyme and chilli powder. Then turn down to a low heat and simmer, covered, for about an hour, stirring occasionally. If it looks dry add some water, stock or white wine to the pan. Season with salt and pepper then roughly smash up the celeriac with the back of the spoon.

BetsyM00 · 17/02/2016 20:07

Oh yes!
grain free granola
grain free granola bars

Gcalgske · 17/02/2016 20:46

The grain free granola looks v similar to the muesli I posted on the recipe thread (which is itself an adaptation from an OLD Atkins low carb recipe)
It's very good but only for BC lite as v nutty/ seedy and you need to be good with portion control. X

GinThief · 17/02/2016 20:47

I've been lurking and attempting to low carb as much as I can. Following bootcamp light. Today I had

B - coffee with cream, scrambled egg
L - mozerella with roasted green pepper & cherry tomatoes
D - homemade beef mince burgers with salad

Next challenge is feeding friends visiting for weekend without joining in on carb element of meal. Up till now it's just been me at home so no one else to worry about and have removed all high carb stuff from house! I am thinking of low carb bolognaise which I can have with courgetti and pasta for guests? Dessert I am thinking Raspberries and double cream for me, and throw a meringue in for guests?

Gcalgske · 17/02/2016 20:54

Food today:
Creamy coffee
Tea with cream
Green smoothie, small pork shoulder steak
Celeriac bravas with mozzarella

Found a good keto macro calculator. Although I'm not cheating things are slow in weight loss terms so I wanted to nail my macros and try that for a week or two before resorting to an egg fast/ fat fast (as I'm not a big fan of either). I think my stress cortisol levels are at play here so I'm a bit Hmm but koko. I feel better on low carb plus I'm not actively gaining weight and have control of my appetite/ non cystic ovaries so I'm not going to stop I'd just like to see some weight loss (as would my myriad of HCP.

Away for a 10 minute static bike (it's all prolapse can handle) and a fizzy water and a wee Pilates/weights session now that DD is asleep.

shouldiblowthewhistle · 17/02/2016 21:00

Ooh Betsy that looks lush! I'm still not losing weight so will keep it in mind for a bit later down the track though.

BIWI · 17/02/2016 21:07

GinThief

Really good entertaining meals that they'd never know were low carb:

  • roast chicken, drizzled slathered in olive oil and butter, seasoned well and with lemon juice squeezed over it, and the lemon halves in the cavity; serve with a tray of veg roasted in olive oil too - choose from all/any of peppers, courgettes, fennel, shallots, courgettes, leeks, aubergine; serve with a green salad
  • Spanish chicken - chicken pieces browned in butter/oil, cooked with olives, shallots, garlic, chorizo and a tin of tomatoes; again serve with a salad and/or some celeriac and leek mash (there's a recipe for Spanish chicken on the recipe thread, I think
  • moussaka - again, a recipe on the recipe thread

And if you really want to push the boat out, you could always cook a piece of fillet of beef This is a fabulous recipe
Again, serve with a celeriac and leek mash, or a swede mash and a green vegetable

Berries with cream will always make a great dessert, and of course, a cheese board is a fabulously low carb option!

Have a good look through the recipe thread for other dessert ideas.

Chocolate truffle torte springs to mind... Or a big LC crumble with rhubarb and custard. Or trifle....

DiscoDancer · 17/02/2016 21:16

DS is Kung Fu Panda mad so I'll struggle to keep a straight face now, carb fu is still here though, just whacked of energy, could sleep for a week!

GinThief · 17/02/2016 21:20

Thank you so much, great ideas Smile

Fascinating read, BIWI, especially the one showing the start of the obesity epidemic aligning with the intro of low fat guidelines - obvs correlation does not equal causation but very interesting nonetheless. I am so cross about the low fat high carb diet industry and the hold it had on me for so long. For me it's calories in/out that works and I was always hungry on low fat diets so snacked on 'healthy' bars like special K but would have 2 or 3! Now I can have a hb egg with butter for less calories than a bar and I am stuffed!

FelicityFunknickle · 17/02/2016 22:28

Thanks Betsy those bars look fabulous.

blackteaplease · 18/02/2016 06:10

Morning all. I am back home now and weighed this morning hoping that I had sts.

I was pleasantly surprised that I have continued to lose thanks to my best efforts. I have eaten some weird food combos over the last few days to avoid the carbs at PIL.
