Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - We're not cheating at all, are we?!

Morning all!

Here's the SoF

Hopefully it will be working for you all. As ever, if you can't enter your weight, please ask on the thread and (hopefully!) someone will do it for you.

And just to reiterate StuntNun, this WOE really does work. However, it's a very unforgiving way of eating, and if you're going to cheat, then it won't.

I totally get that circumstances interfere with things - but we all have to try as much as we can to plan around 'off piste' occasions.

Also, however, don't forget that we're still in the tricky 3-4-5 week period, where it's not unusual for weight loss to stop altogether.

Remember - KOKO! If it worked for you in weeks 1 and 2, then logically it's going to work in subsequent weeks.

Good luck all

lex I've just been shopping for the very same thing. I have a big mandolin but it's a faff so I've always used a bargain wee one (Kuhn rikon) that I got for less than £10 about 8 years ago. It's finally given up (blade still v sharp but plastic has snapped - nasty cut on my thumb as a result) but that's 8 years of near daily use so I would recommend them. I've ordered a replacement with a box bit from Amazon tonight.

Got it now beyond I thought you genuinely like spam for a bit Confused I'm slow today.

ready I do something similar using the extra thick cream - no whipping. Extra easy. I call it 'almost instant choccy mousse'

Thanks for the credits lex Grin

Patapouf · 11/02/2016 22:31

lex lychees are definitely not my comfort food but it's all that was in the house that was sweet!. I've calmed down a bit now had a glass of wine I don't cope well with shock.

I use the oxo good grips mandoline and its quite good, I bought e most basic one they do for around £10 IIRC.

Makes sense beyond, I did wonder if I had missed someone asking about spam carb counts!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 12/02/2016 06:05

Haha re spam - yes the deleted message was some random chancer trying to get us to do a survey, totally irrelevant to the thread. I loved beyond's spam message!

I have that mandolin, Gcal! And also the same make julienne grater. I quite like the look of the one with multiple blades and the box though, might get one of those while I'm in the UK and bring it back here (my usual thing!)

Pata - that must have been awful, I hate that sort of thing happening! :(

Hardly eaten today, courtesy of a 12:30 dental appt (just checkup and clean this time, nothing serious!) - but will be having turkey steaks with Boursin for dinner, with veg - haven't decided which ones yet, but will likely be broccoli and green beans. Aside of not eating much, have been back on the wagon, which is most important for me. Just had a large lump of cheese prior to dental appt (and then cleaned teeth of course!).

This weekend is going to be tough. Mum passed away in November and we are scattering her ashes tomorrrow. Sunday is her birthday. I will be spending a lot of time in the car tonight and tomorrow then going straight to PIL which is a carb/sugar paradise.

I have made ground almond muffins with feta and olives to go with salad bits for tonight's dinner, will have fry up in morning and salad for lunch. I am planning a trip to Tesco when at PIL to stock up on supplies. Wish me luck.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 12/02/2016 06:31

Oh that sounds tough, blacktea - lots of emotional stress. (((hugs))) for you. Thanks
The muffins sound good though - and maybe (if you like it) pick up some smoked salmon and cream cheese at the shops, you can make little rolls of the salmon around lumps of the cheese, very nice little snacks.

blackteaplease · 12/02/2016 06:40

Thanks thumb. That sounds like a very decadent snack, just what I will need this weekend to avoid falling into a plate of carbs and sugar.

fohamy12 · 12/02/2016 07:52

Poor you blacktea be kind to yourself, that's an incredibly tough weekend but I hope you can fill it with sharing lovely memories of your mumFlowers

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 12/02/2016 07:57

blacktea, I hope your weekend is as gentle as it can be in the circumstances.

I have shed 1 and a quarter lbs overnight! I do love it when that happens.

mustbemad71 · 12/02/2016 07:57

Right back on it today:

B: 2 coffees with cream, 2 cubes of cheese
L: left oven chicken bake with salad - chicken, celery, mushrooms, spring onions baked in a sauce made with mayo, creme fraiche, lemon juice and grated cheese
D: probably an omelette

Have a good day everyone!

Thanks for the flowers and kind words. Didn't mean to derail the thread too much.

Back on topic, I am going to weigh in today as I won't be able to weigh again til next Wednesday. Would somebody be able to add me to the spreadsheet at 157 please? I am still losing steadily which is good.

Flowers Flowers Flowers for everyone who's had such a hard time recently
It's amazing that you all can KOKO you are all heroes please remember that!

Gcal thanks for Sukrin gold recommendation - I will look out for that. Could you recommend a good ACV please?

hefzi · 12/02/2016 12:06

Sorry, Lex Grin - I totall deserve the barm craving you've just given me!

Mook hope your dad is doing better Flowers

ready if you do your mixture, and leave it in the fridge overnight, it turns into a sort of fudge (I used to make this before BC!) - otherwise, you can make loads and put it in a big tin, and serve in slices: or roll into balls like truffles. It also freezes Smile

hefzi · 12/02/2016 12:07

blacktea hope it goes well at the weekend Flowers

feekerry · 12/02/2016 12:31

OMG amazing comment alert here I have to share!!!
Boss took me to one side this morning and suggested I order some new work uniform as current one is baggy and hanging off me!! Amazing!!!!!!x

BIWI · 12/02/2016 12:33

I'm working in Wigan at the moment, exploring the cake decoration fixture in Asda.

I don't really have much of a sweet tooth, but honestly - two days of looking at cupcake icing and sprinkles is driving me mad. I'm sure I'm gaining weight just by looking at all the packs.

Hef I will give that a go. Thanks.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 12/02/2016 12:57

Blacktea - if you like Boursin, that's a particularly fine option for the cream cheese, I find.
When not LCing, one of our favourite picnic foods is rice crackers (not ceiling tiles, the small round crackers) with Boursin and smoked salmon on top. Well, Ds2 doesn't like the smoked salmon, but the rest of us do, and DS1 goes nuts for it! Grin

BIWI - you deserve some kind of medal for maintaining your resistance in the face of extreme provocation!

LexLoofah · 12/02/2016 13:14

hefzi no worries Smile

feek that is brilliant, so good to get boosts like that

I am having a using up the fridge day ahead of going away tomorrow so:

B - quarter of a red pepper, shredded savoy cabbage, shallot fried in butter in my new ceramic frying pan after my other one was ready to be retired after a year of daily use. Scr eggs with chilli powder in another new pan
L -Fathead Stromboli using up ham, tomato paste, cheese, olives --- was so good, loads left to go cold and hopefully be portable enough for car trip tomorrow, great picnic food. Improvised salad of thinly sliced celery, shallot, walnuts in hm mayo with teaspoon of Dijon. thanks for mandolin info gcal let me know how you get on with your new one, I like the look of that with its own collection tub
D - not sure, will need something quick so possibly more Stromboli and a big spinach salad with oil and acv dressing, dark choc

have a good weekend all

Mookbark · 12/02/2016 13:31

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. He's old (84) and crumbly, but seems to be doing ok. At least, we haven't had the ceiling of care/ not escalating/ not resuscitating talk that we had to have when he was in last year.

Blacktea Flowers Be kind to yourself.

I'm pleased with how I coped yesterday, had prawn cocktail and the pork crackling from M&S on the way home, plus 25g cashews (3.something carbs) from spar. Then had ff greek yoghurt and frozen berries once I got home. Not enough veg and a bit too much BC lite, but ok under the circumstances, I thought. My weight hasn't changed today, so seem to have got away with it.

Love the chocolate and cream dessert idea, have added that to my list of LC recipes to try.

Today is:
B - 2 x creamy coffee
L - Scrambled eggs with babybel melted in
D - chicken carbonara with courgetti

I'm working this weekend, so will wait and see how that goes.
Well done KOKO everyone and BIWI well done on resisting the cakes

Sending low carb thoughts your way biwi,

This is the one I get www.nutricentre.com/biona-organic-vinegar-cider-vinegar-with-mother?gclid=CLS4i-C08soCFQhuGwoddywJog

It's biona - I bang on about them a lot (their coconut oil is ace) but honest I'm in no way connected to them, just my local health food shop has their catalogue and being in rural Scotland it's one of the only places I can get stuff. It's a nice appley vinegar and it's got the 'mother' which is the bacterial culture you want. Any brand with the mother will do. Super for gut health and all manner of things. I use it as a toner when my ezcemas flared, sore throat gargle, mouth wash, salad dressing or just a tsp in a pint of water to spruce it up without adding carbs or sweeteners.
