Low-carb bootcamp

Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - We're not cheating at all, are we?!

BIWI · 08/02/2016 07:33

Morning all!

Here's the SoF

Hopefully it will be working for you all. As ever, if you can't enter your weight, please ask on the thread and (hopefully!) someone will do it for you.

And just to reiterate StuntNun, this WOE really does work. However, it's a very unforgiving way of eating, and if you're going to cheat, then it won't.

I totally get that circumstances interfere with things - but we all have to try as much as we can to plan around 'off piste' occasions.

Also, however, don't forget that we're still in the tricky 3-4-5 week period, where it's not unusual for weight loss to stop altogether.

Remember - KOKO! If it worked for you in weeks 1 and 2, then logically it's going to work in subsequent weeks.

Good luck all

Flowers

Let's be absolutely clear here...

Bootcamp works so long as you follow the rules.

The Bootcamp rules are all there with excellent reason and if you follow them then you will lose weight. If you aren't losing weight then the more experienced low carbers on these threads will be able to help you to work out why not. But their first question will be 'Are you following the Bootcamp rules?'

We all have different carb tolerances, we are all at different points in our weight loss journeys, we all have different diet histories or health issues:

Some people can eat more carbs in the form of nuts, chocolate, etc. and get away with it, others have to keep carbs low to lose weight.

# Some people can handle dairy, others have to cut down on it or cut it out entirely.

# Some people can have a cheat meal once every week or two, others need to stick to the rules 24/7.

Ultimately you will want to experiment and find out what works best for you in terms of compliance and weight loss results. But for the duration of Bootcamp I strongly suggest that you stick to the rules!

Well my LC Valentines Day consisted of being taken to the Garden Centre and DH buying whatever I fancied!
One of the items I opted for was a 2 for one Offer on farmyard manure. Grin
He was a bit Confused and kept saying, why don't you get something pretty? I had to explain all the bedding plants would be dead after a frost. My final tally was 3 pots of herbs, seed propagator, fish blood and bone, gromore, bark, 3 packets of seeds (sweet peas and zinnia) plus manure. Why I'm listing this I do not know.
Happy Valentines Day!

Hope everyone had a nice day.
I still can't get over how not hungry I am ever. I think my whole attitude to food is beginning to change. And to alcohol. Still dry now Grin

Sounds like bliss nigella, I am only getting into gardening (as of last spring really) as I 'm physically able to do a bit more (we now have a lovely big garden on the site of an old piggery so the ground is very fertile). My lovely little half width south facing lean too green house (for seedlings and tomatoes) that I got for my birthday got smashed to bits in the storms recently (neighbours trampoline landed on it) so hubs bought the replacement bits today. Your trip sounds very romantic.

Gcal ooh, do it, do it, do it! That would be totally awesome (and I am an expert washer-up also Grin) - I was thinking today about what I would like to do if I could do anything, and rural retreats was top of my list! Sadly, I live in a battle zone depressed inner city area, and have actually been banned by my boss from hosting visitors to work as a result - so I don't think I'd get much uptake at the moment!

Hope everyone's had a good weekend - I was delightedly waiting for my dairy meal of the week yesterday: and it was rank! What a bloody disappointment - it didn't help that I over-fried the halloumi on one side, but it had rather - ahem - explosive results all night Blush

Today's dinner was seriously yummy veggie jalfrezi, with a shallot instead of onions, and loads of butter, with cauli, spinach and broccoli: totally fantastic, and definitely worth a week of no tomatoes (my favourite eating ever) to allow for the carbiness of the tinned tomatoes.

I'm making an effort to go into work a few days this week (on long-term sick leave atm) so have prepped some hard-boiled eggs and celery: I have some lovely colleagues who are very likely to suggest an adjournment for the world's best cheesecake, so I need to remain resolute!

I had a difficult week because of travelling last week, and compounded things with a (lovely) weekend away in Brighton. I shall draw a large veil over the weekend. But it was lovely and we had a great time.

Tomorrow, I have to go to Leeds for a couple of days - work again. So I've bought myself some little packs of tuna (don't need to be chilled), and have a small pot of yoghurt and some hard boiled eggs to take in my cool bag.

I'll hopefully be able to buy stuff in M&S in Leeds, so should be OK. I'm feeling pretty miserable about having to be off again, not just because it wrecks the diet so easily but also because I'd just like to be at home!

Evening all, I'm back at work tonight for 3-4 hours. Have brought babybel and nuts with me, just in case.
Will need to be careful tomorrow I'm more likely to snack when tired.
Had a fab pork roast dinner, with excellent crackling, celeriac and leek mash, broccoli and cauliflower before I came though, so that will help with tonight.
BIWI I rarely go away with work and enjoy the odd day I get when I do. However, I can imagine having to do it regularly is quite depressing. Are you likely to be home for a bit after the Leeds jaunt?

No, sadly! I start another project the week after, which sees me running evening fieldwork in London - which will mean at least that I'm sleeping in my own bed! - but then I'm off to Birmingham.

I don't normally mind it. Stay in nice hotels, etc, it's just dull after a while, and also very easy for it to negatively impact on the ambition to lose weight.

Today
B scrambled egg, streaky bacon, coffee
L celery & sour cream dip, 1left over spare rib
D fish cake ( made out of fish, no potato ; duck ( scraped off the sauce) green beans & brocoli. I did eat some potatoes. I did eat. Pannacotta & raspberry dessert, and some fizzy wine. So a bit off piste, but I will be back to it tomorrow

I totally understand BIWI, I'm away with work at least 2 days/1 night per week, usually more, and despite staying in nice hotels it's really not much fun once the novelty wears off and as you say it makes it more difficult to stay on plan. I feel more in control at home.

I'll be away again tomorrow for a couple of days but will weigh before I go; might not get a chance to update the spreadsheet until later though.

Oh dear BIWI, we will have to brandish the big stick to keep you on track Grin
I forgot to say earlier, but when everyone had a fresh cream chocolate cake for pudding this evening, I had the 90% choc/ extra thick cream concoction that was mentioned up thread. It was very rich, so I didn't need much. I did put extra cream on top Blush but it was bloody lovely.

Had a lovely weekend relaxing wise, not so good LC wise but clean slate in the morning. Treating it like day 1 of BC so motivation is high.

Waiting for time of the month to arrive as hormones have been crazy and have been craving things I haven't wanted in ages. Was hoping it would have been and gone by now.
Good luck to everyone for weigh ins tomorrow. Apologies haven't read recent posts will catch up soon.

DH made a lush Valentine's dinner for us yesterday - a Jamie Oliver salad recipe. Unfortunately he really doesn't understand what's low carb and what isn't so it had pomegranate and dried cranberries in it. I won't bother weighing in today. The salad was delicious though, he's a good cook when he puts his mind to it draws a veil over the horror that was lunch.

How hard is it for him though, really, to understand that fruit has got carbs in it?I

Same weight as last week. Sad
Over the weekend I had some champagne and one pudding.
Avoided the beans, toast, hash browns at brakfast (away in hotel) avoided the potatoes and carrots and bread at dinner.
Didn't even open the box of specially imported turkish delight from dh. Didn't eat even one of his luxury chocolates.
So I am sorry. I don't think I can do this.
Good luck to you all, you' doing so well.

Aw don't give up Felicity. I had frustrating weeks where I stayed the same, but at the end of it, I could look back and see that my weight loss averaged out at a respectable one pound a week.

Why do you feel like you can't do it? Too much denial of treats for too little gain?

BIWI said some wise words last year which stuck with me. So not being able to eat everything you want makes you miserable? Well, doesn't being overweight make you miserable too? Smile

Anyway, it's up to you, but no need to be defeatist!

Report
StuntNun · 15/02/2016 12:33

Don't get too hung up on your weight Felicity, the scales never keep dropping every week. If I had my way everyone would only be allowed to weigh once a month. Just because the scales stay the same doesn't mean you aren't burning fat. Don't give up now!
