Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - We're not cheating at all, are we?!

Morning all!

Here's the SoF

Hopefully it will be working for you all. As ever, if you can't enter your weight, please ask on the thread and (hopefully!) someone will do it for you.

And just to reiterate StuntNun, this WOE really does work. However, it's a very unforgiving way of eating, and if you're going to cheat, then it won't.

I totally get that circumstances interfere with things - but we all have to try as much as we can to plan around 'off piste' occasions.

Also, however, don't forget that we're still in the tricky 3-4-5 week period, where it's not unusual for weight loss to stop altogether.

Remember - KOKO! If it worked for you in weeks 1 and 2, then logically it's going to work in subsequent weeks.

Good luck all

Flowers

Good today
Coffee with cream
Made a shake thing with the nutrininja- 100g cucumber, 1/2 avocado, 1 stick celery, handful spinach, small piece ginger, ACV, cayenne and almond milk. Was creamy, but spicy and lush. Had it with a pork shoulder steak. Really chuffed, I have been struggling to eat veg at lunch so this works.
Dinner was chicken 'noodle' soup made from chicken wing stock (just wings, water, salt, ACV)

Added ginger, coconut oil, courgettie, mushrooms, chilli, chicken meat from the wings and a touch of tamari then a couple of eggs mixed in at the end.

BIWI · 10/02/2016 20:47

Evening all! Hope all the various ills and woes are quickly sorted.

I'm off to Wigan tomorrow for two days, (business not pleasure!) so will have to plan things very carefully if I'm not going to undo what I've lost so far. I'm also away for the weekend, so will miss both of my PT sessions - and am with friends celebrating one's significant birthday, so there will no doubt be much booze flowing.

Thankfully there's now a Leon at Euston, so that's a good place for a low carb breakfast, and I can buy some stuff from M&S for my lunch. No idea what the food's going to be like at the hotel - but I am working for two days in an Asda, so there will be plenty of things I can buy if I need to.

What's ACV?

Gcalgske · 10/02/2016 21:13

Apple cider vinegar - if you get a good one with the bacteria in, it's amazing stuff, kills sore throats and infections etc.

mustbemad71 · 10/02/2016 22:13

Hey Nigella - yes loos were grim! Home now and collapsed in a heap - tomorrow is another day!

mustbemad71 · 10/02/2016 22:17

BIWI enjoy Wigan and your celebrations and don't beat yourself up with your big stick!

AuntieMaggie · 10/02/2016 22:41

I'm struggling with picnic/packed lunch ideas for me when I go out and about with ds... any ideas? I've not got much food in for tomorrow so he will be having a ham sandwich, dairylea dunker, fruit and a flapjack... all I've got in the fridge for me is ham, olives, cheddar, feta, salmon and spinach I think. Also bacon and eggs but that's breakfast!

hefzi · 10/02/2016 22:47

Gcal that shake sounds gorgeous!

Happy travels, BIWI- and happy Wigan Hmm: I really ought not to be so rude about it, as a number of colleagues live there - but it's such an easy target Wink

AuntieMaggie how about using the ham as "bread" and making cheese sandwiches to go, with spinach in them too, with some olives as snacky things? Or hard-boiled eggs (I know you're having them for breakfast too, but they are handy to take out and about)

ami9 · 10/02/2016 23:15

Hi everyone and well done🙂 I'm back on boot camp however my internet is not working so unable to log on from home and waiting for my new phone too. Miss reading all your posts xx

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 11/02/2016 05:58

AuntieMaggie - have you tried using iceberg (or other) lettuce leaves as wraps? This is my go-to instead of bread, works really well for egg mayo, and worked very well for a cheese and meat sandwich the other day as well. I'm not a fan of round lettuces, but the leaves of those would be less delicate than the iceberg, which is my preferred choice.

ChesterDrawers · 11/02/2016 07:00

Teetering on the brink of wrecking everything - need some stern words.

Was so tired last night that I took DH up on his offer of him making a curry (from a jar!) and had rice with it Blush And now I'm thinking of having toast for breakfast - WTF is wrong with me?

Been awake since 4.30 thanks to DH who was up to get the early train and can't seem to do so without waking the whole house. Me and DS are snuggling in bed watching Milkshake but it's going to be another LONG day.

Also I have got a really bad chest after almost choking to death yesterday on a pork scratching only being slightly dramatic I coughed for ages and now my throat feels really sore.

I feel better for writing that down. Sorry for being such a shit bootcamper this time Sad I just need some fecking sleep and all will be good. And sorry for the moan, I know there are lots of you with real problems who just get on with it Flowers to you all.

Ok so I suppose I need a plan, that doesn't include toast!
B: I will have eggs and butter plus I'll take a BPC for in the car
L: nothing as I have nothing in and am in a catered for meeting - wall to wall carbs as usual
D: have some left over chicken casserole in the fridge

AuntieMaggie · 11/02/2016 07:37

Thanks for the ideas. I haven't got any lettuce but it's good for the future. Usually I'd take some chicken legs or a salad but it's not always practical. I'm eating plenty of salmon and prawns at the moment too but not good for a day out where the food is going to be on the pram all day.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 11/02/2016 07:43

Chester - I'm sure BIWI will be along with her big stick to give you the hard words, but all I can do is sympathise as I had a massive fail last night too Blush - everything just got Too Much for me, I don't even know why really, and I first had a glass of red wine spritzer, then later fell face first into a bag of Maltesers. I can't even justify it by saying "at least I didn't finish them" (I didn't, but that just means there's half a bag of Maltesers hanging around...)

And today, I've already had a Pimms - although (and I realise this is both a crap excuse and slightly worrying that I feel I "need" alcohol) this afternoon was a bit of a drama - DS2 did his falling-over-failing-to-breathe-in-passing-out-and-failing-to-restart-breathing shtick at school pick up. DRAMA! I was trying to keep him away from other people seeing but couldn't, and so were surrounded by concerned kids and parents and teachers all offering to call the ambulance, offering advice, etc. while I laid him on the floor and did resus on him (He's done it several times before but he's supposed to have grown out of it, goddammit!! At 3! He's 3.4 now, FFS!) ANYway he was fine when he came round eventually (bit disorientated for a couple of mins) and the school were fab, but said we had to do an accident report (fair enough) - DS1 was very distressed as well (he always is, it scares him) but 2 ice lollies later, both boys were fine again. As was I because I've seen and dealt with it before a few times - but it takes it out of you! Too much adrenaline. :(

BIWI · 11/02/2016 08:14

Much sympathy Chester and Thumb - and how scary that must have been, Thumb Sad

Chester - you know the drill. You know why you're wanting to faceplate into the toast - because you're letting those Wicked Carbs take hold again!

Being tired also won't help.

So - the plan.

Don't be hard on yourself - you'll drive yourself into a pity party full of carbs if you do. Just acknowledge that things are tough right now. And the best thing to do to make things easier is to be good to yourself!

Which means getting back on the wagon and eating all the lovely things you know you can have.

You're going in the car, you say - make sure, then, that you drive to the nearest Sainsbury Local/Tesco Express/M&S Simply food and buy something that you know you can eat for lunch. If you set off without anything it's a surefire recipe for disaster at lunchtime, when you're hungry.

Don't eat the carbs in the meeting - eat your own stuff. Please.

No-one except you can do this. We can all stand on the sidelines and shout and cheer (or wave my big stick Grin) but it's up to you. Don't let the carbs grind you down!

Flowers thumb and Chester. Scary for you thumb even if you have seen it before.

3 seems to be a magic age for HCPs. Apparently my DS would grow out of a few things by 3. 6 months later we are still waiting.

I have discovered a new problem, speaking of said DS. He likes my low carb snacks. And has realised that dragging a chair over to the fridge gains him access. IGNORE SILENCE IN KITCHEN AT YOUR PERIL

Yes it's a constant battle in my house to stop others eating things that are 'mine'!

Hi, all, reporting in today.
Yesterday successful.
I had a pancake for breakfast - thanks Pcat for recipe, plus my berry syrup.
L ( packed) was celery sticks & egg mayo.
At conference I drank plain water out of a wine glass - they had no fizzy, which I thought a bit cheap!
There was a sort of cheap, all-purpose curry served, but I was not remotely tempted, and not hungry due to LC eating.
D on train back, I had chicken wings & some cheese & salami. Washed down with Diet Coke. My one indulgence for the day - I know it is frowned on, but is calorie free. See if it affects ketosis. Day a little low on veg.
AuntieMaggie my chicken wing recipe might be of use. I get a big lot of wing, cut off tips, dunk in melted butter, roll in a mix that is mainly Parmesan (or if you cheap like me, buy the econo packs of grated hard cheese) plus some paprika, mixed herbs, salt & pepper. Put on a foil covered baking sheet and bake in a moderate oven for 1 hr. This results in a fairly good imitation of fried chicken. In the recipe book (500 LC recipes) these are called Heroin Wings! ( eg, addictive)
Am now at garage waiting for car to be looked at. (Front windscreen sprayer thingie kaput)

Gcalgske · 11/02/2016 09:46

Flowers for thumb and Chester, can't imagine that thumb, must be super scary.

Drdiva we get the same, first my dd's haemangiomas would go by age 1, then 2, then 3, now 7....(she's 3). Speaking to a pal who is a paediatrician she said that they sometimes give an 'age they'll grow out of it' to give parents an end date to work towards. It's a trick. The parents cope because the think it's not forever, but in that time they also learn to cope with it and that they can manage whatever it is.

My 3yo also loves a LC snack, olives and capers are her favourites... Weird child.

Head the wise words of biwi! Enjoy your travels all. X

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 11/02/2016 10:12

I guess it's more scary for everyone else around me now, because I know what's going on and while it's still very tense until he breathes again, I kind of know he will. He probably would even if I did nothing - but I can't do nothing while my child isn't breathing! But it just needs his blood CO2 levels to rise to the point where the automatic breathing reflex kicks in, so me breathing into his nose speeds that up as well. But it IS terrifying for anyone who doesn't know what's going on - I had to put a FB message up for parents who had witnessed it, to say he's ok - we have a few very highly-strung mums who suffer from anxiety, so I needed to let them know all was well (and their children too).

Thanks for all the kind thoughts though - they're much appreciated Thanks

Gcal - DS1 adores olives and capers and stuff like that and has from a very young age (I remember him eating smoked salmon and capers when he was about 18mo in Scotland) - DS2, though, nope. Doesn't like them, although he does like tartare sauce (I make my own, so capers and cornichons in mayo with a bit of the vinegar and some lemon juice).

Tomorrow is another day - back on the wagon with a vengeance!
Tonight I had leftover cauli mash and baked salmon, with some courgetti, all fried together in butter. Very nice! and saved me from the beef pad see ieuw that the boys were having!

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 11/02/2016 10:14

Thumb, i read your post about pimms then and forgot you werent in the uk. I was concerned about your drinking for a sec, 7.45am being a tad early Grin glad your ds is okay now. We also have the arbitrary three deadline, just ours was speech related (and has now been moved to four...)

Breakfast was smoked haddock in butter and egg scrambled in more butter. Coffee with almond milk and (so far) 2l of water

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 11/02/2016 10:21

Grin - yes, I guess that would be a touch shocking, drinking before breakfast!! GrinWink

I am originally from Wigan so hefzi Oi! Grin It is the land of carbs though, I have consumed many a pie and chip barmcake in my time. hope you have a good trip there BIWI, I will be up myself in a few days to visit the rellies who haven't managed to escape.

total failure yesterday evening just shows how planning is key and should not let DH pick where we eat. Went to the cinema, had no placed picked for eating afterwards so of course ended up in a curry house and whilst was good on the dishes, no rice, I did have some naan - much less than I would have had pre-BC (which would have been about the same size as the tablecloth) but was immediately cross with myself. So lessons learned a) plan ahea,d b) do not let DH pick and c) do not go for a curry ever

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 11/02/2016 12:37

Hahaha BIWI! Grin

BIWI · 11/02/2016 12:39

I have very deliberately refrained from posting anything negative about Wigan Grin
