Low-carb bootcamp

Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - We're not cheating at all, are we?!

BIWI · 08/02/2016 07:33

Morning all!

Here's the SoF

Hopefully it will be working for you all. As ever, if you can't enter your weight, please ask on the thread and (hopefully!) someone will do it for you.

And just to reiterate StuntNun, this WOE really does work. However, it's a very unforgiving way of eating, and if you're going to cheat, then it won't.

I totally get that circumstances interfere with things - but we all have to try as much as we can to plan around 'off piste' occasions.

Also, however, don't forget that we're still in the tricky 3-4-5 week period, where it's not unusual for weight loss to stop altogether.

Remember - KOKO! If it worked for you in weeks 1 and 2, then logically it's going to work in subsequent weeks.

Good luck all

Flowers

I posted a link to low carb pancakes on the recipe thread the other day.... I tried them today and they were yummy. I had to leave the batter to settle a bit otherwise they were a bit fluffy. thelowcarber.co.uk/low-carb-pancakes/ I had mine with butter :-)

Me too cassandra Wink You are right Nigella it's a terrible place to try and LC in, so I won't beat myself too much about it. I used to live there and still miss it terribly! I'd love to move back and I know I'm going to have to drag DH home from Bordeaux!

B: scrambled eggs w. butter
L: pre cooked chicken breast from m&s
D: beef stroganoff with swede mash (beef, couple of shallots, spinach, parsley and mushrooms w. sour cream and paprika)

Evening, all,
B scrambled eggs with some Boursin, 2rashers back bacon,
Snack - homemade tomato soup
L 100% beef burger on salad with cheese & avocado
D steak, broccoli, salad + Caesar dressing, plain yogurt with sugar free vanilla syrup
I tried a keto stick this morning but it was negative. I have been eating some berries, but now realised that they are not BC allowed. And probably prevent ketosis. On the other hand, my keto sticks are pretty old!
I also joined a local 6 wk fitness challenge, which is a structured fitness class/motivation/ kick up the bum/nutrition programme. Starts 22 Feb.
Tomorrow a bit hairy - 3-1/2 hour train journey to Cambridge, 3hr meeting & then a return journey. Get home by midnight. I am taking celery, egg mayo, roasted chicken wings, cheese cubes & possibly some salami. In a big shopping bag. Hopefully not tempted. Will report on Thurs.

moan just looking at what you had today it seems like a lot of food to me, that could be stopping ketosis.
Too much veg will be too many carbs. Some people don't have to be in ketosis to lose so might not be an issue for you but if it is I'd reccomended you weigh and measure for a few days to get an idea of portion size. When I'm in ketosis my appetite goes too which helps.
Berries are ok on BC lite but small quantities.
Home made tomato soup can be very high (obvs depends on your recipes) but might be an idea to count it out properly? Tomato soup and sauces get high quickly because you reduce and intensify the tomato so you end up using quite a bit of tomato in a relatively small portion. I certainly wouldn't have it for a snack, maybe something fatty would be better or a meat stock based soup with fat added (creamy chicken?)

Just coming on to quickly over the duck paté I bought at the farmers' market on Sunday - the bloke is a Frenchman and took the time to explain his ingredients, as I needed to make sure there was no chicken involvement in the duck paté (there isn't, it's ALL duck - yum!) He adds brandy to it as well, which obvs isn't ideal for the LC situation, but it's only a teeny amount for preservation.

And OH GOD it's good!! I made some crackers earlier with parmesan and finely minced cauliflower (I'd been finding just parmesan crackers was too much, too oily, too salty, too I don'tknowwhat but I wasn't enjoying them - the cauliflower was a decent leaven to it) and they go fabulously well with the paté.

I'm also having 2HB eggs with cheese and cucumber in lettuce rolls today for lunch.

Feeling rubbish again! Can't shake this cold, been over two weeks now and I still feel dreadful. Not helped by DS waking me twice in the night - he's bloody five, surely he should be sleeping through by now. Upshot was he was grumpy this morning, I was grumpy this morning and I am still in my dressing gown while working from home (have showered/done hair and make up, but no energy for clothes).

Plan is:
B: eggs, butter, cheese, creamy coffee
L: not a clue do I have
D: pork steaks, cauli, brocolli, swede chips

Ta Gcal. YY they were fried in what Enid Blyton would probably refer to as lashings of butter!

That pate sounds amazing Thumb. Reminds me I have some lurking in the depths of the fridge. Grin

B - Greek yoghurt with blueberries which were nasty and woody so made a sauce by cooking them with some water and vanilla essence - much nicer!
L - probably a pret salad and americano with cream as tough day at work predicted
D - Pulled pork with broccoli and green beans. Butter on the veg
Such a delicious way of eating!

Glad you have some equally fab paté, Engelbert! I felt a teeny bit guilty for swooning over something that no one else on here could access, but not too much! Grin

Chester - sorry you're still ill, that's no good! Have you tried the whole vits A,C,E, selenium and zinc supplementation? I would also include vit D supplementation too, at a rate of 3000 IU (more than what is normally "recommended" because 1000 IU/d is just too low)

Gcal thanks for the Radio 4 clip, I love hearing that what we're doing is positively healthy! I'm still sheepish about explaining it to friends as they always raise eyebrows at full fat approach. It also supports my life-long love affair with butter, how could marg ever have been a good idea??
Guy I've carried on having milk in tea, it helps me feel I'm not on a diet at all, it would feel like such a sacrifice. Still losing, so going to stick with it.

Finally EGGS! I'm becoming such an egg ponce, but ran out of glorious Burford Browns yesterday, and corner shop eggs just aren't cutting it!

I'm on Week 6 now and have started week with whoosh, after a gain in week 3 and static weight weeks 4 & 5. It's really true what they're saying! Koko everyone!

I started this morning pretty pleased with myself as I could see my waistline returning. Then I made the mistake of calculating how many pounds I still have to lose to get back to pre-pregnancy weight and I am feeling rubbish again. Must koko.

I won't be able to weigh in next week as we are off to the in-laws, I shall try my best to stay on the wagon.

planning on trying the LC custard later - can't wait!

On the duck theme, we had roast duck at the weekend so cold duck has been a staple for me over the past couple of days, along with vegetables.

Last night I roasted aubergine slices and bits of cauliflower in butter and coconut oil plus seasoning, to have with a couple of slices of duck. Duck probs on last legs now so I will use the remainder to make duck soup and freeze it. Most of this duck has been for me, as the rest of the family have decided they are vegetarian (for the time being)! So they've been having veggies, but with quinoa which isn't too hard for me to rustle up. DD1 is extremely fussy even about vegetables, so I have to do separate vegetables for her (she's phobic about many foods actually). But DD3 happily eats most veg so thank goodness for that.

Hello, I haven't updated the spreadsheet or posted for a while but I have been doing my best to stay on track.

A couple of blips here and there but I'm 4 lbs down overall.

I would like it to be more but I think I need to up my water and my veg choices are a bit carby.

Overall though - not a sweet thing has passed my lips which is astounding and not something I thought I would be able to manage.

My snacking is way way down and I feel like I have more energy.

Yay me!

Moan BIWI also says that if you are drinking the volume of water that you should, then you won't register on the keto sticks as you're washing the ketones away. Don't know if that helps?

B: 2 hard boiled eggs and parmesan crisps
L: Chicken/courgette curry with cabbage from last nights tea
D: Peri peri chicken thighs with hm mayo and cucumber

Hello all! Need to RTFT but just checking in - have been a hopeless cheater last few days. Blaming stress - life has gone a bit tits up. Going to get back on it tomorrow though. On a sloooow train home from London - glugging water. Will start logging grub again tomorrow and get back to shredding with the lovely Gillian too.

Well done all on the continued losses! That LC custard sounds lush!

Toffee yes duck's the way forward!

Gcal thank you for posting that LC custard recipe, I never would have bothered looking for it myself Blush
I made it earlier and WOW!! it is so good!! Gorgeous texture. I used erithrol too and i must say I don't like the aftertaste of that, so I'm thinking of reducing the quantity right down next time I make it. Maybe add more vanilla or something. The texture of the custard is beautiful.

This BC I've been trying loads of new recipes - thank you BCers Thanks
Hi Must - don't overdo the water on the train home, those train toilets aren't great!

Gcalgske · 10/02/2016 20:33

Nigella I really like sukrin gold (brown sugar blend) or sukrin mellis (powdered sugar) they have the least aftertaste of the erithritols I've tried.

it's lush with a few squares of 85% choc melted in or a couple of raspberries. X
