Low-carb bootcamp

Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - We're not cheating at all, are we?!

Morning all!

Here's the SoF

Hopefully it will be working for you all. As ever, if you can't enter your weight, please ask on the thread and (hopefully!) someone will do it for you.

And just to reiterate StuntNun, this WOE really does work. However, it's a very unforgiving way of eating, and if you're going to cheat, then it won't.

I totally get that circumstances interfere with things - but we all have to try as much as we can to plan around 'off piste' occasions.

Also, however, don't forget that we're still in the tricky 3-4-5 week period, where it's not unusual for weight loss to stop altogether.

Remember - KOKO! If it worked for you in weeks 1 and 2, then logically it's going to work in subsequent weeks.

Good luck all

It's similar in carbs to cream (2.6g-3g/ 100ml). If you really must use milk it would be a good option. I'd recommend measuring your milk, maybe use a table spoon measure? 15ml at a time. I got a shock when I first started low carb - I was having about 70mls in each cup. Shock

Nutrininja people I bought one today - first creation was 25g frozen rasps, tbsp U/S coconut, 30g ff yoghurt, splash cream, u/s almond milk, ice. Was v yummy, fluffy and nice but not totally without raspberry seeds. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to blitz longer?

guy thanks crumble recipe here so named for Crabby who created it, she used to be on here. scroll past the chocolate tart recipe really quickly to get to the berry crumble. I used to make it with frozen berries but prefer rhubarb which is lower carbs anyway as I find I don't need to sweeten at all, the almonds and cream add a bit of sweetness.

vague I have made those pancakes for breakfast, they are not too bad but then you still really want to put sugar on them, perhaps a sq of melted dark choc would do but tbh we aren't going to bother and will give them dark choc instead as prefer to scar the DCs for life and win meanest mum of the year award Grin

Oooh, lc crumble!

Sorry, Bootcampers, but I have sinned. I went for a team lunch today and had the set menu - smoked salmon roulade was probably fine, but followed by pork belly bean casserole, and followed again by a free brownie. Blush Even if I had turned down the brownie, but it just looked so good! And if I must sin, I'd rather sin with a properly-made chef's brownie rather than a sickly Creme Egg (which I resisted yesterday - spotted one in the cupboard that I had forgotten about). How bad are beans? Kidney beans and borlotti beans, I think they were.

OMG! I'm going to have to make that crumble. It looks superb, think I'll need to buy clotted cream to have with it unless someone knows a lc custard recipe
Btw, not all HCPs are anti LC diets, some of us even follow them. Wink

Mookbark, I think you could definitely make lc custard. I suggested it to DH once (he's the cook in our house), but discovered afterwards that he had ignored my strict instructions about using double cream and water, and had instead used milk and added icing sugar. But I still think the principle would work.

LC custard is perfect but need sweetener so it's BC lite only.

gcal I shouldn't ask as I know I will want to make it and scoff the lot but how do you make lc custard ???

This is the one I make - it's passleys custard from the pig 2 twig forum (IPD) I don't use Splenda - I use stevia or erithritol and it works well.

Here it is:
Passley's Custard

Half a big pot of double cream
3 egg yolks
Seeds scraped out of half a vanilla pod
Splenda (to taste) - I use about a tablespoon

Get the cream in a pan and heat gently until it starts going frothy and worried-looking. While that's happening, put the yolks, Splenda and vanilla seeds into a bowl and mix until it's combined.

Tip the cream into the bowl and whisk until it's all in. Pop it back in the pan and stir absentmindedly for a couple of minutes.

Either drink it (I bet there's at least one of us that will!) or pour into ramekins left over from those old GU chocolate puddings and refrigerate.

That custard sounds delicious!

I read the full thread and bookmarked etc. and then forgot to press post Blush

Food yesterday
B scrambled eggs
L lc sausages x3 salad with mayo and oil
D cauliflower and broccoli cheese

3.5l water 2 coffee with cream

Today
Didn't have breakfast, wasn't hungry
L cauliflower and broccoli cheese
D (will be) egg fried cauliflower rice with chicken. I'm really, really looking forward to it.

I'm currently sitting outside the school waiting for the dc so I can go back to work. Will probably have a yog with double cream mixed in when I get back to work.
So far, 2 coffee with cream and 1tea. It would seem my cutting down on caffeine plan is not quite working out...

LC crumble and custard! mmmmm

I'm looking for some advice - we're going away for half term next week and will be staying with some friends, any tips on how to follow BC as best as possible without offending hosts?

We will offer to cook for them a few nights but I don't want to be difficult if e.g. everyone wants pizza! I could just have what is on offer minus the carbs and fill up with fats?

If I let myself BC light for a week it shouldn't be too bad? I've kept off the initial 6 pounds but have sts the past 3 weigh ins... Still have about 2 st to go and really don't want to derail at this stage Blush

thanks gcal have printed out for my lc recipe folder and off to plot a sort of mid carb trifle for spesh occasions, yep would drink it

neko after trying many routes I have learned that it is best to let them know in advance and give them some ideas as to what you can have and can easily replace carb for low carb. i.e. say you will have extra green veg instead of potatoes etc. You could take a few bits with you like the breakfast muffins, babybels and butter of course if they don't usually have any and cream or almond milk if you have in coffee/tea. I am staying away next week as well and will just eat around the carbs, add fat, keep up with the water and ignore the desserts, will go armed with dark choc should temptation strike

CassandraKumquat Another one with pcos who managed to conceive through this woe here...

Interestingly My gynaecologist/endocrinologist told me 10 years ago to limit carbs for pcos - when I was doing slimming world on gp referral he told me to stick to red days. I lost 2.5 stone but then struggled to lose any more and after the horrible consultant told me I must be doing something wrong my gp referred me to a dietician and I spent 2 years trying everything going with her support and the only thing that worked was low carb. It is the only thing that I have not only managed to lose weight doing but completely reduced my other symptoms and scans before I got pregnant showed my ovaries as cyst free!

I allow myself one cup of (decaf) tea every morning and I use milk in it. The only other hot drink I have is the occasional (decaf) coffee in the evening with double cream.

Cheddar Beans are pretty high carb. No point sweating now you've eaten them, back on track Wink

B: 2 Boiled eggs and a babybel
L: Chicken/courgette curry
D: Slow roasted belly pork on a bed of buttery savoy cabbage (fab)
S: A few parmesan crisps

Forgot to post yesterday: lost another pound, which is quite good considering I am 5 weeks in :) 11lb since I started on 6 January! :)

TooExtraImmatureCheddar - re Pilates, I'm in Glasgow but my instructor also does classes in Killearn and, I think, Stirling.

Re chocolate mousses, I posted a recipe a while ago in the Bootcamp recipe thread for "Chocolate Pots - really intense wee ramekins/espresso cups which are BootCamp Lite compatible. They have 100ml of milk (I haven't tried substituting cream for that - maybe next time I'll experiment) and juice of one orange amongst 8 portions - but no sugar Grin

They're my "go to" dessert for when I'm entertaining on this WoE. :)

Passleys custard is pretty dreamy in an almond crust, for a wee custard tart or used in a trifle with almond sponge and rhubarb compote or I make a ganache /chocolate pot with 85% choc double cream and orange extract. I don't really cook desserts on BC but find erithritol or stevia (or a blend) the best if you need sweetener. Or you can make a nice ÃŽles flottantes with the whites (confectioners blend erithritol, arrow root and the left over egg whites) poach in water then transfer atop the custard.

Report
prettybird · 09/02/2016 18:18

I know it's not - which is why I said it was one orange split amongst 8 (so therefore probably less than half a teaspoon per portion). Smile

Can anyone tell me how bad this is?

Pancakes made like this, but with no sweetener, so basically just whisked egg, sliced strawberries (4) big dollop of whipped cream, then a few dark choc chips between the pancakes which were all in a stack so they melted and made a choc sauce. I ate it feeling like it was OK but doubting myself!

Loving the lc custard. Would it work to freeze in an ice-cream maker do you think. Have just ordered one

Sorry, just with you saying the pudding was BC lite, there are new folk around who might get the wrong idea and start eating oranges. Thought it best to be clear. X

Option 1 I take it englebert? That's fine, just really a vanilla omelet. Dump the fry-light and cook in real butter. The choc chips can be high, depends on the brand and sugar content, you get very dark 85% chips in speciality baking shops (or I just chop a big bar because it's cheaper) X
