Low-carb bootcamp

Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - We're not cheating at all, are we?!

Morning all!

Here's the SoF

Hopefully it will be working for you all. As ever, if you can't enter your weight, please ask on the thread and (hopefully!) someone will do it for you.

And just to reiterate StuntNun, this WOE really does work. However, it's a very unforgiving way of eating, and if you're going to cheat, then it won't.

I totally get that circumstances interfere with things - but we all have to try as much as we can to plan around 'off piste' occasions.

Also, however, don't forget that we're still in the tricky 3-4-5 week period, where it's not unusual for weight loss to stop altogether.

Remember - KOKO! If it worked for you in weeks 1 and 2, then logically it's going to work in subsequent weeks.

Good luck all

Flowers

Stay the same here. I'm a bit disappointed but feel it's ok.
This morning however I thought oh I'll see if daily weighing help and I'd put in a kilo! In someways it's the kick I needed but we are planning a camping trip this weekend and I'm looking forward to having some low carb beers and now I'm not so sure.

Ugh, Lex and Guy, I am also short (5'2") and current weight is 10 stone 11. It was 10 stone on Halloween and then I just gorged for 2 months. I would love to see 9 stone again! In fact, right now I would love to see 10 stone. Hmm I was kind of hoping the stone I put on in Nov and Dec would just melt away, but sadly not.

Gcal I wish I'd seen your post before I was at my GP! I wasn't there about my weight (though I did have a try for a prescription for speed, once we'd started on it Grin) but she had a bit of a go when I told her what I was doing - I pointed out that 1000 calories a day of low fat, high carb, for three months, left me a pound lighter, so I'd stick with this WOE for three months and compare, and then decide which was more beneficial. (In retaliation, she made me get on the scales - and then helpfully said that really, I need to eat less and move more Hmm)

Found some Brazil nuts with only 3.9g of carbs per 100g, so I did cave in a little on the nut front, after saying I wouldn't: but my resolution for the week is to only have cheese once (much meal planning has taken place!) and see if that makes a difference for me this week.

Hope everyone's hanging in there, despite the awful weather - and hearty get well wishes to all the poorly ones: especially cassandra - labarynthitis is just horrible Flowers

Whoohoo! A progressive GP! Law of averages there have to be some about Wink
Tell your sis I was TTC for years (7 total, 4 on metformin for PCOS and 2 under fertility clinic) but the only thing that sorted my PCOS was low carb. The cysts in the ovaries are created by over production of insulin, low carb = stable insulin and your body heals the cysts. I owe my dd to dr Atkins.

I heard a very clever dr (cardiologist) on R4 last week, demonising veg oils, saying he cooks in butter, low fat isn't good etc etc. The message is spreading. He was saying how disappointed he is that the NHS advice is not keeping pace with research.

Report
DrDiva · 09/02/2016 08:21

gcal I need my DH to hear that cardiologist! He still isn't convinced that I am eating healthily, or that I am enjoying the food!!

This is my reading week, so am enjoying having the time to eat a nice breakfast before cracking on. This morning baby courgettes, samphire (I am addicted to samphire), egg and Parmesan. With a creamy coffee. What's not to like?!

Still not facing the scales after another appalling weekend. We had friends over on Saturday and although the food was perfect BC and I stuck to wine and gin, the quantity of alcohol was most certainly not. And then there was the hangover food on Sunday… Oh dear!

That said, I do feel as though I have lost a little fat this BC, but I doubt it will show on the scales right now. I was back on LC yesterday but didn’t eat a great deal as I was still feeling a bit ropey .

Yesterday:
B: Nowt
L: M&S prawn and thousand island dipper thingy, two chunks of cheese
D: Kind of a courgetti carbonara with pancetta, leeks, mushrooms, shallot, cream and parmesan
And about 10pm I realised I was starving so had two big chunks of cheddar.

Today:
B: Two eggs, butter
L: Tuna, avocado, salad, olive oil
D: Chicken thighs slow cooked in tinned toms, courgette, leeks, mushrooms, shallot with cauli rice and butter

DH and I are away this weekend too, and have got a posh tasting menu for Valentine’s Day, so I am planning on being v LC til we go away then doing my best to not go crazy while enjoying a very rare break away. And once I am back I am back on hardcore BC – no excuses.

Sorry for the essay. Not read the thread yet but will do so tonight. Hope everyone is ok.

chester my hubby and I used to be 'foodie tourists' (used to be, now have DD and I don't work so no £'s Sad )we would go on holiday and up and down the UK just to eat at v posh places. With the exception of the pudding course generally the posher the restaurant the easier it is to low carb. They aren't trying to improve their profit margins by stuffing you with cheap stodge. I've successfully low carbed at many a 3* Michelin. remembers cheese course whistfully

Through laziness I ate almost every banned food at the weekend when we had guests and I so wish I had only cheated with the drinks.

We are a lot of short arses, aren't we? Grin I'm 5'2" and weighed 12 stone at my heaviest, although I started this BC at 10st 10lbs. I'm looking forward to getting into the 9st - something bracket this BC and my ultimate goal is to get to 8st 13lbs, although it is about 30 years since I was that weight, so don't know if it is doable or not.

I felt quite down last night, I think because I was tired. I am an emotional eater, so know this is a trigger point for me. So, I had a bath and treated myself to 30g frozen summer fruits (5.6g per 100g, so not too bad) with ff greek yoghurt. It was lovely and did seem like a treat.

Today's food plan is:
B - creamy coffee x2
L - mackerel pate with lettuce and cucumber, maybe an avocado
D - got boeuf bourguignon and cauli rice out of the freezer so I can have a quick dinner tonight as I want to go to the gym on the way home from work.

Patapouf I LOVE Paris, very jealous!!

Guy Flowers I hope your DH is doing okay, and you too of course.

hefzi I am Shock at your GP - how unhelpful! I wish the NHS would catch up. I had a lecture from a good friend (cardiac nurse) about salt/saturated fat/etc etc when I started this. I decided that I will keep quiet from now on!

Gcal wow! Thank you for that, I will definitely tell my sister. She is very down about it all atm. 1.5 years of TTC and GP has said she has to lose 4stone before they will refer for fertility treatment. And yet a year of hard exercise and calorie deficit only shifted half a measly stone. Fingers crossed for weightloss and a natural conception then! Thank you!

Food plan today:
B- Scrambled eggs and mushrooms
L- Prawn and salmon salad
D- Pork stirfry with courgetti then a pancake!!! Grin
S- Avocado or olives

Cassandra - I feel your pain re. potential labyrinthitis - I've had it twice and it sucks. BUT I also have benign positional vertigo, which is a lot more intermittent - and happens to me when my neck is out of alignment. So if you've maybe ricked your neck, or been lying funny, or in a draught, or anything like that, it might be adding to your woes.

Glad to hear that some of the HCPs are catching on but it will be a long slow struggle, I think. Veg oils are fine so long as you don't actually cook with them - but as salad dressings, they're quite good. Obviously the more refined they are, the less nutrients they retain; but they're still not bad unless you overheat them. Having said that, I only cook with butter or EV olive oil; and bake with rice bran oil if a lighter one is needed (used to be grapeseed but I have a friend whose son is reactive to salicylates, so grapeseed is unkind to him)

Been medium to good except with the water content - had my tooth fixed today (at last!) which meant that I couldn't eat too much in the way of chewy food, not until tomorrow evening realistically. SO:
B - lump of cheese, piece of lettuce
L - cold roast beef, cheese and lettuce sandwich - used the iceberg lettuce as the wrap. Worked very well!
D - baked salmon with cauliflower & Boursin mash and green beans.
Didn't even manage to finish my portion, so have some cold fish and mash for tomorrow lunch :)

Am working towards having cherries and cream now though - cherry season is nearly over, bought a nice bag of them yesterday, possibly for the last time this season. I know it's wrong but it's still better than chocolate! And I'm down another 2lb this week, so I'm happy. :)

Big Paris lover here too Patapouf in fact I'm a total Francophile and dream about purchasing a holiday home in SW France. Only trouble is that BREAD is such a big thing over there, and wine, and patisserie..... (and cheese, so not all bad from a LC point of view).

Hi all Flowers

I need to work out how many carbs I have using milk in coffee. I can occasionally force (shudder) down a coffee with cream if I'm desperate but I do much prefer milk! I'm doomed aren't i. I'm not talking latte quantities (I wish!) but I do like a couple of hot drinks during the day. I've tried various green/herbal/fruit teas over the years and more recently and I haven't found any that Id be happy to drink. They are all foul Grin I used to drink a lot of hot water years ago but not liking that either anymore!

Poss stupid question but does anyone know how that lactose free milk compares? I've tried almond milk, soy milk, it inevitably gets opened, tried then left in the fridge to go mank Blush Are the majority here just completely cutting out milk or limiting? If so to how much per day?

I'm doing good today, made some mini crustless quiche things this morning so had a few for breakfast and lunch, dinner il have something light cos I'm not very hungry and the kids want pancakes.

Went and got my hula hoop out the garage last night, had a go and made Dh laugh so it's not all lost Grin

Sorry for the huge milk related post. X

Sheba - labyrinthitis is an infection, usually viral, of the inner ear. It doesn't hurt, but it messes with your balance organ. The first time I had it, every time I either laid down or sat up from lying, I got that room flip thing that your eyes do when you're really really pissed. Not so much spinning, more like the vertical flip, like you used to get on old tvs when the vertical hold "went". It can make you very sick, if you're prone to seasickness (I'm not too bad but my MIL gets it REALLY badly, so her labyrinthitis makes her sick as a dog). It's "treated" with something like Stemetil, for the seasickness, and a really strong anti-histamine (e.g. Serc) which I never found to be of any use at all. I don't think they've found a better drug option yet, those drugs were prescribed for my MIL only last year.
