Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where you get to make a decision!

BIWI · 01/02/2016 14:41

Afternoon all! Apologies for the later than usual start to this week's chat thread.

Here's the spreadsheet

I was up so early I completely forgot to weigh this morning Blush

Now. It's week 3, so you get to decide. Do you want to move onto Bootcamp Light, or do you want to stay on Bootcamp? Or, do you want to do both - Bootcamp during the week, and then relax at the weekend, with Bootcamp Light?

The rules for Bootcamp Light are at the bottom of the spreadsheet, but in a nutshell it means you can add nuts/seeds (occasionally, and in moderation); you can eat some fruit - mainly berries, and again in moderation, and you can have the occasional alcoholic drink - again, stick to spirits and wine.

If you're happy staying on Bootcamp, that's fine - but if you decide to do this, please make sure you're getting most of your carbs from veg and salad, and not from other processed foods, otherwise you won't be getting optimal nutrition.

And now for the warning! It's very, very common in weeks 3 and 4 (and sometimes even 5) for weight loss to slow/stop altogether. If this happens to you, please don't be disheartened. It's your body catching up with you! KOKO, and things will soon start to move again - albeit that you're more likely to see smaller weekly losses, around 1-2lbs a week.

Done your weights, Patapouf. You sure you want to put 235 in for the 3rd one? You can put your lowest weight if you want to. I don't, I must admit, I put the weight I am on the weigh in day, but I know that some people put their lowest weight of the week in. Up to you, I can change it if you like :)

Today:
Breakfast = cheese lump (boring but easy)
Lunch = babybel, leftover cold salmon from last night, mashed with Boursin and spread in celery
Dinner = sausages for the boys and I'm going to do the duck breasts I didn't do the other night, with green beans and cauli/swede mash. And probably some butter-cooked mushrooms.

mustbemad71 · 04/02/2016 07:22

Ready hope you babe is better soon - my DC had scarlet fever at the same time - not nice.

Thumb mmmmm duck breast sounds delish.

Hammer 3lbs in 3 days - I am jealous! I'm half a pound down - need to let off the cheese I think.

B: salmon eggs and avo
L: need inspiration
D: Seabass broccoli and Cauli cheese sautéed chestnut mushrooms

Patapouf · 04/02/2016 08:28

I may as well, thumb. Otherwise I might not register a loss next week Wink. I'm even doubting myself as to whether that counts as a weight change and not just a fluctuation 😒. Hopefully I'll have a nice whoosh soon. Thanks again!!

B: total FF yog with flax and 1 sliced strawberry.
L: probably an omelette with spinach and ham
D: pork belly, crackling and I'm going to attempt that celeriac and leek mash I think BIWI mentioned.

I really detest the smell of celeriac so I'll boil it in stock and hope the leeks and butter cover up the taste of it.

Why is it so hard to not have dairy? maybe I'll try reducing it and hope that's enough because it's the only thing that makes BC "easy".

DrDiva · 04/02/2016 08:36

Ok, I have caved in two counts.

First, I wasn't going to weigh, as losing weight isn't my main goal in doing this. But have nipped on the scales this morning and I have lost 4lb. I'm happy!

Also started entering my food on mfp, just to see the macros. Carbs hovering around 12-15%. Thing that strikes me though is that I am always under their recommended calorie intake - just can't eat that much! Maybe as finally the lurking hunger has vanished and I am on the whole fine between meals, unless I have a really heavy teaching day. For some reason that makes me hungrier!

DiscoDancer · 04/02/2016 08:50

Quick question, I have an awful memory, this morning I felt so exhausted and could have slept standing up - is this carb flu or am I just exhausted?!

Started BC again this week to get me into good habits, and had a sneaky weigh and the numbers had gone in the right direction. Am struggling a bit with water which is odd as I normally have no problem drinking.

Hope you're all well!

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 04/02/2016 09:26

Weight is still hovering around the same (daily weigher). Not that i'm expecting any different in week three, though it is slightly annoying that dh has started moving again just as i 'stall' Envy

Drank 5l yesterday, plus herbal tea!! Had a marmite too, so dont think it was salt related, i was just having a thirsty day Grin breakfast today was a blueberry and celery smoothie (greek yog), as i'm having a fry up for lunch... Mmm.... Oo, might make a MIM to toast, to dip in my runny egg

RomiiRoo · 04/02/2016 09:40

Very stuck here, it seems like everytime I deviate from BC I will put on 1lb or 2. I did flaxseed pancakes (flaxseed, two eggs and a bit of unsweetened soya milk) last night with spinach and grated cheese and I am up again. Everything else was as previously.

I probably need to up the exercise, which is hard at the moment.

AmayaBuzzbee · 04/02/2016 09:49

Somebody above asked about low-carb breads. Waitrose has 'Livlife seriously seeded sliced bread". One slice has 3.8g carbs.

I had one for brekkie this morning, toasted with mashed avocado and egg (with splash of tabasco!). Rest of the day will be strictly "lower" carb. It works well for me, does not kickstart any cravings etc.

Mookbark · 04/02/2016 10:15

Morning all.
Feeling better today and although I feel able to eat again, I'm not ravenous.
Had meatballs, with boursin in the middle last night with a tomato/ garlic sauce and courgetti. The portions were small, even by my standards, but was lovely and filled me up. DH was complimenting me on the food, too. Yet again Grin I just wish he would go LC too rather than just having the LC main meal with me. I think it would benefit him and he definitely needs to lose weight. Ah well, I'm not going to suggest it or nag, but will facilitate it if he decides to.
I've already been to the gym today
Today's food will be:
B - creamy coffee x 2, avocado
L - tinned mackerel, green salad
D - hm beef curry, it's in the slow cooker already, with cauli rice
S - ?babybel, spicy chai latte.

Have to go to an options evening with DS1 tonight, so have made sure dinner will be ready when we get back, otherwise would be tempted by something quick and high carb.

ChesterDrawers · 04/02/2016 10:31

Morning all,

Lost the plot with the thread this week so I hope everyone is doing ok and Flowers for anyone who is struggling.

Had a bit of a chocolate binge last night (about 60g of 85% so not as bad as it could have been) but then AF showed up early so that is no doubt why. Back on plan today anyway.

Plan is:
B: BPC
L: Left over bol with grated cheddar
D: Might have avocado chips and mayo again – bloody yum!

Got friends over this weekend. Any ideas for a dairy free, low carb dessert? Friend is dairy free, but it’s so hard to find things that tick both boxes.

Chester meant to ask about the avocado chips. They sound lovely and I am thinking of doing them tomorrow. Did you fry yours or do them in the oven?

Not sure about a LC, dairy free pudding. That would be paleo, wouldn't it? Maybe try looking at one of their websites?

HammerToFall · 04/02/2016 12:30

Food today
B - coffee with cream ( just totally not hungry)
L - roast pork with plenty of fat in, salad dressed with a bit of melted Camembert
T -rib eye steak, garlic mushrooms and celeriac chips (if they are edible as I've never even tried celeriac before never mind cooked it)
1l of water down and 2.5 to go

ChesterDrawers · 04/02/2016 12:30

Mmmm, avocado choc mosse sounds lovely, Will have a look at that.

Moo I oven baked them. They weren't as crunchy as I suspect they'd be if you fried them, but they were very tasty.

Patapouf · 04/02/2016 12:53

Is chopped swede freezable? I've finally found bags of pre chopped swede without carrot/squash and I've bought 5! I had a nasty incident last year and put a very big knife through the palm of my hand, so it a little scared of chopping it now and I can't rely on DH to do it for me forever.

antimatter · 04/02/2016 12:55

StuntNun - if you have time could you please have look at this thread?

VagueIdeas · 04/02/2016 13:19

Checking in late to this thread. I've been so ill this past week I've really been struggling to eat at all. So I've fallen off the wagon a bit with tinned soup, small amounts of bread etc. And yesterday I was walking forlornly around Co-op and came home with a Soreen malt loaf. Literally couldn't face anything else!

On the plus side, I haven't gained anything to speak of.

So back on BC today, because I'm feeling SO much better in my clothes already and don't want to gain back that half stone. I've been gaining and losing (but mostly gaining) this same half stone for YEARS and I'm so sick of it. Motivation restored!

BIWI · 04/02/2016 13:50

Patapouf, not sure if that will freeze - but you could always try with one bag? Personally I'd be tempted to cook them all and freeze it cooked, which would likely be more successful.

BIWI · 04/02/2016 13:51

Romi don't worry about the exercise - if it's difficult, it's only going to stress you out worrying about it.

I've heard other people report gains with Flaxseed, so it's probably better for you to avoid it.

I ventured into Lakeland on Saturday (always dangerous!) and bought this microwave egg poacher

Just used it at work (we only have a microwave to cook anything) and it was great - takes less than 2 minutes to poach two perfect eggs!

LexLoofah · 04/02/2016 14:45

chester I have successfully made chocolate truffles with coconut milk and dark choc could your friend have those?

HammerToFall · 04/02/2016 14:46

Any tips for celeriac chips?

LexLoofah · 04/02/2016 14:51

well momentous day for me on two counts: Day1 of C25K having done no exercise in the last decade. cannot believe I did it and felt Ok in fact more than OK afterwards, will see how sore I am tomorrow and more importantly if I do it again on Saturday.

Plus I gave blood and they tried to force a Special K bar down me beforehand and crisps, juice and choc biccies after but I whipped out my dark choc and I was fine

B - courgettes fried in butter, scr eggs
L - bacon, eggs, cucumber
S - said dark choc - mini bar of sainsburys taste the difference 85%, more than I would normally have due to blood giving, also had a few strawberries when I got home just to be sure I would be OK, so very sweet
D - will be courgette & mushroom omelette with brie

Patapouf · 04/02/2016 15:38

I'll give that a go, thanks BIWI!
Google results say either part cook it/mash it/freeze it raw so we'll see! They were only 50p a bag so I won't be inconsolable if it doesn't work.

hefzi · 04/02/2016 17:24

Eek, eek, eek! I made a stupid mistake today, and stood on the scales. Please someone tell me that it's not actually possible to have put on 9lb since Monday!

I've been sucking down my water like a good'un (average of 4.5l/day, because of my vast bulk), but the only thing I can think is too much cheese this week - I haven't been able to face eggs all week (after having an average of 3 a day for the past fortnight), but have eaten a Brie (170g, I think) as well as 120g of Stilton: apart from that, I've had a cucumber (150g-ish) and a pack of celery (about 120g after being trimmed up) and 450g of lettuce (NB across three days, not all in one go Grin) plus 2 tbsp of oily vinaigrette every day (homemade).

It's terrified me into eating a hard boiled egg for lunch, and I'm going to have egg mayonaise and oily leaves for dinner: please - someone reassure me that I can get rid of this 9lb again by Monday if I stay off the dairy until then: anyone?!
