Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where you get to make a decision!

BIWI · 01/02/2016 14:41

Afternoon all! Apologies for the later than usual start to this week's chat thread.

Here's the spreadsheet

I was up so early I completely forgot to weigh this morning Blush

Now. It's week 3, so you get to decide. Do you want to move onto Bootcamp Light, or do you want to stay on Bootcamp? Or, do you want to do both - Bootcamp during the week, and then relax at the weekend, with Bootcamp Light?

The rules for Bootcamp Light are at the bottom of the spreadsheet, but in a nutshell it means you can add nuts/seeds (occasionally, and in moderation); you can eat some fruit - mainly berries, and again in moderation, and you can have the occasional alcoholic drink - again, stick to spirits and wine.

If you're happy staying on Bootcamp, that's fine - but if you decide to do this, please make sure you're getting most of your carbs from veg and salad, and not from other processed foods, otherwise you won't be getting optimal nutrition.

And now for the warning! It's very, very common in weeks 3 and 4 (and sometimes even 5) for weight loss to slow/stop altogether. If this happens to you, please don't be disheartened. It's your body catching up with you! KOKO, and things will soon start to move again - albeit that you're more likely to see smaller weekly losses, around 1-2lbs a week.

Patapouf - the other way you can cook neep swede is to microwave it for ages about 20 minutes (Shock!) and then it should be soft enough to scoop out and mash with butter Smile

readyforno2 · 04/02/2016 19:55

Thanks Mustbe
He's much better today. Still on antibiotics but hugely improved.

Food today
B coffee with cream
L cheese salad with mayo and vinegar
D scrambled eggs.

Maybe 2l water. Will drink another before bed.

I'm considering an egg fast. I feel like I'm not losing at all. Went to the trainer last night and according to his scales I'm up 4lb from last week. I realise our scales will read differently but I'm not happy. I'm hoping I can turn myself around, after the trainer last night I went straight to aerobics and did an hour on the treadmill and cross trainer tonight.

readyforno2 · 04/02/2016 19:56

Pretty
Doing a neep in the microwave has never worked for me. It's always taken ages and never seemed to properly cook. I kinda feel it's easier to wrestle with it and boil it.

Wombatinabathhat · 04/02/2016 19:58

hefzi I wouldn't worry about it too much. Stick with it and weigh yourself early Mon when you get up and have been to the toilet Dairy can be tricky for quite a few people.

I am struggling at the moment, so still reading but not listing my food. I'll be back on it as soon as I can fingers crossed

knowclue · 04/02/2016 20:13

Evening all, didn't manage to post last night, and so many posts to catch up on - not finished yet!
nigella thank you so much! I love vanilla extract and am delighted I can buy sugar free! Looking forward to trying chesterdrawers avocado chips too (a weekend treat I think).
Hope everyone well, my gut is empathising with those with regularity issues Blush, never been a problem for me before and I'm certainly eating enough veg, need to up my water perhaps.

Food wise I didn't eat enough yesterday, no time and just wasn't hungry, MFP said less than 500 cal. Today has been better,
B: scrambled egg with. Utter
L: lettuce/toms/raw broccoli/LCMs Mayo
D:spinach and avocado smoothie with three LC sausages, one boiled egg

blackteaplease · 04/02/2016 20:15

Not a good day's eating today. Middle child had a hernia op. I took low carb snacks and asked DH to buy me a salad for lunch. He got falafel and tabbouleh as all the others were pasta and he thought I could eat it. Dinner was cooked by FIL - beef, tomato and root veg stew. I did decline the mash and cheesecake though.

Not nearly enough water and far too much coffee. Ah well, tomorrow is a new day.

hefzi · 04/02/2016 20:20

wombat thanks for the encouragement though it will have to be one almighty poo : I think I've been taking the not-weighing too literally when it comes to cheese!

I hope things come together for you again soon Flowers

knowclue · 04/02/2016 20:24

Hammer for celeriac chips cut them chunky as I find they shrink quite a bit during roasting. Preheat an oiled roasting tin, Boil cut chips for a few minutes until softened, drain and pat dry. Plonk them in the roasting tin, season as you like, cook for approx 20 mins at 180 until crunchy!

Patapouf · 04/02/2016 20:31

prettybird that's genius! I don't have a microwave, I did consider trying to boil one whole then thought better of it Grin

How much swede is too much swede? I feel like I could live off swede mash!

CobOnTheCorn · 04/02/2016 20:47

Meals yesterday were:

B: chipolatas and fried eggs
L: leftover chicken curry and spinach
D: chicken and chorizo with broccoli

Today:

B: bacon, lettuce and avocado
L: spinach and Parmesan omelette
D: cheeseburger with salad

RomiiRoo · 04/02/2016 20:50

Biwi, thanks, I have avoided the flax seed today. It is not so much that exercise stresses me out, just that I am easily tired at the moment. I walked to the shops this morning (15 mins each way) and had breakfast in a coffee shop, which was nice (but not affordable every day!).
But I then came back and slept an hour early afternoon. Small steps, I guess, but I want the energetic me back!

B was scrambled egg and smoked salmon
L was salad with mayo
D was soup (swede, leek, green cabbage and spirulina - sp?).

DD is helping with a bake sale tomorrow but I left the taste testing of my contribution to the DCSmile

RomiiRoo · 04/02/2016 20:53

blacktea, I hope your DCs op went well and they make a good recovery. You did well in the circumstances.

blackteaplease · 04/02/2016 21:11

Thanks Roomii I am sure he will be fine soon enough.

nekobus · 04/02/2016 21:24

S - 1 babybel
Water - have managed 2L trying to glug down another before bed!

StuntNun · 04/02/2016 21:49

Sorry I have been AWOL for a couple of days. Things have been hectic here! I'll catch up ASAP!

BIWI · 04/02/2016 21:57

hefzi you can't possibly have put 9lbs on since Monday! List out for me what you've been eating since Monday (and drinking) and let me see if I can help.

ready don't compare your scales with your trainer's. Firstly, they will give you different readings, because different scales always will. Second, you should be weighing at home, first thing, naked. Whereas when you're at the trainer's/the gym, you'll be wearing clothes (I hope!) and will also have eaten or drunk something. And looking at your day, it looks like you're really not eating much. Come on! You know how Bootcamp works! We're only in week 3, so don't think about moving on to something like the fat fast. You know that low carbing works for you - and you also know about week 3. KOKO and you'll be fine - as long as you're following Bootcamp rules.

Romi - doesn't look like you're eating much protein - which you will need for muscle development. You're probably not getting many calories either there, which is another thing that won't help you.

blacktea don't stress about it too much - hope DS is better soon!

pata you are best to get a big tray - lay the chopped swede on it in a thin layer. Freeze. Then scoop back up into a zip lock bag. Repeat.

It works with all freezable veg and soft fruit (rhubarb, strawberries etc)

hammer the best celeriac chips imho are deep fried. Chunky are nice but will be softer than 'real'. If you shred it very finely on a mandolin and deep fry you will get crispy golden deliciousness.

You can oven bake them, olive oil, lard or dripping are my favourites. Roast for around 45 mins in a hot oven.

Gcalgske · 04/02/2016 22:19

You can buy pre frozen plain swede in farm foods.

prettybird · 04/02/2016 22:20

Readyforno2 - I do a mix - sometimes microwave and I agree, it takes absolutely ages, sometimes boiled. I cut layers with a big knife and then cut the outside off of each circle.

I was just suggesting the microwave as a way that didn't involve a large knife Wink

Patapouf - you could maybe try roasting a whole or half neep as an alternative? and there is no such thing as too much neep Wink

Gcalgske · 04/02/2016 22:23

I love neeps (swede) but the carb count varies wildly, some places say around 3g/100g, some say it's up to 12g/100g. Shock Because of lack of clarity I usually try to only have it once / twice week at most.

I have managed to get it to cook whole in the microwave but it took closer to 30 mins. It was great. Really dry compared to the boiled so it was very nice in texture and took on lots and lots of butter.

Gcalgske · 04/02/2016 22:27

Food today:

B: creamy coffee
L: salad at garden centre, chicken & bacon in full fat mayo and slices of gammon. Coffee with cream
D: chicken curry (spices, chicken thighs, ff coconut milk, passata, coconut oil, green pepper, chilli, mushrooms, shallots)

readyforno2 · 04/02/2016 23:14

BIWI I know you are right. I'm just really struggling atm.
This week with ds has been so draining and after almost a year I finally got a referral letter through from the psychological plastics unit about my flabby overhanging skin on my stomach.
The problem is, I have put on so much weight since then it's pretty much just fat again. I've completely let myself down. What do I do now? The appointment is at the end of this month and I can't go and tell them how fucking disgusting it feels to have lost all that weight yet still have so much saggy skin when actually I've just filled it back up with fat again.
And, to top it all off, I've had a massive argument with dh about nothing he's a twat and he's currently asleep beside me and doesn't give a fuck.
God, I feel like all I've been doing on these threads is moaning. Sorry everyone..

Gcalgske · 04/02/2016 23:45

Don't be sorry ready, we are here to support you. Flowers

We all have slip ups, don't beat yourself up, you are trying!!

Can you postpone the appointment? Maybe tell a rampant lie about not being available and then hit the BC hard to work to a new deadline? Knowing the NHS it'll be a good while before you get rescheduled. X

Gcalgske · 04/02/2016 23:46

paleogirl v v v sorry I said I'd post my granola then forgot. It's on the recipe thread now.

HammerToFall · 05/02/2016 07:04

I seem to have lost another four pounds overnight! I don't think this is right though. There's no way I can lose half a stone since Monday! I haven't seen the scales that low for about four years.
