Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where you get to make a decision!

BIWI · 01/02/2016 14:41

Afternoon all! Apologies for the later than usual start to this week's chat thread.

Here's the spreadsheet

I was up so early I completely forgot to weigh this morning Blush

Now. It's week 3, so you get to decide. Do you want to move onto Bootcamp Light, or do you want to stay on Bootcamp? Or, do you want to do both - Bootcamp during the week, and then relax at the weekend, with Bootcamp Light?

The rules for Bootcamp Light are at the bottom of the spreadsheet, but in a nutshell it means you can add nuts/seeds (occasionally, and in moderation); you can eat some fruit - mainly berries, and again in moderation, and you can have the occasional alcoholic drink - again, stick to spirits and wine.

If you're happy staying on Bootcamp, that's fine - but if you decide to do this, please make sure you're getting most of your carbs from veg and salad, and not from other processed foods, otherwise you won't be getting optimal nutrition.

And now for the warning! It's very, very common in weeks 3 and 4 (and sometimes even 5) for weight loss to slow/stop altogether. If this happens to you, please don't be disheartened. It's your body catching up with you! KOKO, and things will soon start to move again - albeit that you're more likely to see smaller weekly losses, around 1-2lbs a week.

tom I ws you last week. I was incredibly frustrated and terrified that I was never going to lose weight. Then I dropped 7 lbs over 2 days. Keep at it - it's possible that your body is healing some thing internal and will postpone the weight loss until that is more sorted.

However, I dropped the ball a bit today, first time since start of January. I had a whole punnet of raspberries and some roasted chicken from Sainsburys, which has popped me out of ketosis today. Might also be because I have only had 2-3 litres of water the past few days.

Onwards and upwards. Back on it properly tonight.

BIWI · 02/02/2016 19:59

Hammer and nekobus you might want to watch out how much processed food you're eating - Babybels, pepperami, sausages, chorizo, Parma ham ...

OP posts:
LexLoofah · 02/02/2016 20:05

B- leftover beef sausage, avocado, scr eggs
L - at cafe rouge: seabass en papillote with leeks and butter and green beans, sq dark choc and pot of tea but only splashes of milk
D - roast beef, celeriac and a shallot roasted in dripping, cauliflower, meat juice gravy with cream, nibbled corner of Yorker, sq dark choc

Equiem89 · 02/02/2016 20:06

Anyone watching sugar free farm?

knowclue · 02/02/2016 20:27

Yes, comments on sugar addiction very interesting!

Equiem89 · 02/02/2016 20:32

I don't think I could eat just veggies. I need meat

knowclue · 02/02/2016 20:41

The sugar free pulled pork looked good! Not sure about that cake though, wonder where they sourced the sugar free vanill extract? Both mine list sugar as an ingredient!

CobOnTheCorn · 02/02/2016 20:47

Just logging my food to place mark and keep track of what I'm eating.

B: 2 scrambled egg with spinach wilted in butter
L: tuna and mozzarella patties with romaine lettuce and a couple of cherry toms
S: cucumber
D: chicken and coconut milk curry with baby corn and mange tout

RomiiRoo · 02/02/2016 20:52

I stopped eating meat, which I thought would be harder than it is. I still eat fish, though, and eggs. Not sure I could go vegan.

Well done Lex on your positive shopping tripGrin; and to all the other posters who have lossesStar

I agree with gcal about wide range of benefits of this WOE; but mostly I like knowing exactly how my body will react to certain foods weightwise.

Today I have been all over the place foodwise, though, as was completely washed out. Did try to keep up with the water though, so fingers crossed.

B was soya yogurt (plain) with flaxseed added
L was cauliflower with cheese
D was salad with mackerel and olives.
Actually does not sound too bad written down, but the cauliflower was raw, maybe that is why I felt lazy. Some 90% chocolate too and a couple of walnuts just now.

hefzi · 02/02/2016 21:51

Tom that's where I got into the habit of eating my own bodyweight in fruit and veg too Blush I really struggled in the first two weeks of BC, in all honesty, because I was really missing the fruit and the extra veg, but it seems to have settled down now - though I don't think I'm ever going to be like a PP that had her evening veg of 1/3 courgette Grin

I'm really encouraged too to read what gcal had to say about mood disorders: in addition to the 100 odd pounds I want to lose initially, what would be even better than that would be to heal my mind - I know I feel better generally eating better, but in my new fantasy, low-carb means not only I can finally ditch the vile venlafaxine, but also avert the lithium that's coming at the start of next month. I was starting to feel a bit wavery this evening - but this has renewed my commitment!

Patapouf · 02/02/2016 21:56

Hi all, I haven't caught up and RTFT I'm just checking in.

I'm horribly bloated and I'm in the same boat as beyond I've just taken a senokot which will hopefully resolve this. I darent step on the scales just yet so I'll be weighing in later in the week.

Yesterday:
B: total FF yog
L: huge chicken salad with sour cream and cheese and guacamole, we were in a diner and everyone around me was eating huge stacks of pancakes Sad
D: not very hungry so I had a bit of tuna mayo with lettuce, Parmesan crisps and pork scratchings

Today:
B: ham and cucumber
L: chicken, lamb, cabbage and salad with a creamy garlic dressing
D: boiled egg and mayo

I've only had 2l today as I've been so busy. I have bought som magnesium supplements to take in the hope my digestive issue regulates itself.

BIWI · 02/02/2016 22:13

If you're constipated, then not drinking the water isn't going to help you!

DiscoDancer · 02/02/2016 22:32

Can I ask how many babybels are acceptable in a day?!

Patapouf · 02/02/2016 22:33

I know BIWI today is the first day I've not managed a minimum of
3.5 and I'll drink a litre before bed. I have IBS and i think I need to cut back on dairy (and broccoli) because it does me no favours!

PaleoGirl · 03/02/2016 02:21

4lbs down for me and have just put it on spreadsheet (hopefully correctly)
I had a lovely breakfast today of toasted linseed porridge with almond milk and cinnamon. Was delicious.
Lunch was an egg
Dinner was cod with veg

RomiiRoo · 03/02/2016 05:05

There is one boot camp where I spent a good while trying to solve the 'regularity' problem, so those in that boat are not alone.

feekerry · 03/02/2016 06:27

Ye too much brocolli doesn't agree with me either!!

HammerToFall · 03/02/2016 07:08

After too much processed food yesterday today's food is

B - 2 coffee with cream ( can't eat before training)
L - corned beef salad
D- smoked haddock, cauliflower and broccoli cheese and poached egg

Does this look better BIWI?
**
I am still
Managing the 3.5l of water and dh is now on board so no more cooking three separate meals a night Grin

DrDiva · 03/02/2016 07:39

Can you get a second wave of carb flu? I felt dreadful when I got home yesterday Hmm
Or was it simply the result of running around like a loon all day and talking so much I lost my voice?...

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 03/02/2016 07:50

Lunch yesterday was 2 lc sausages with brocolli and cauli, dinner was egg in a cup with a cocoa/bpc type thing

Breakfast today - bacon, scrambled egg, mushrooms. Coffee with almond milk

My weight is bobbing around the 207 mark still, bloody week three hopefully there will be a whoosh following this third period though...?

Ooof35 · 03/02/2016 08:08

Hi,
Am a lurker on this thread- I just wondered
A) has anyone found any low-cal / high protein bread?
B) what alcohol is best - social function this week where I want to drink a couple

Thanks and great thread.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 03/02/2016 09:18

Ooof - I doubt you'll find an actual bread that qualifies as sufficiently low carb - is there some reason you feel the need to do so?
Alcohol - white spirits are best. But not rum.

Today:
B - usual lump of cheese
L - 2 HB eggs mashed with mayo and garlic salt, with grated cheddar and cucumber, wrapped in iceberg lettuce leaves.
D - pan-fried salmon in butter and lemon juice, with green beans, cauli and asparagus (avoided the carrots!)
BUT - did fail on the alcohol front and had a proper white wine spritzer. :(

SayrraT · 03/02/2016 09:21

Hello, I'm still here. Just signing in. No idea what I weigh, scales lost in the building site (house!).

Have two days at a conference, feels like a day off! I slept until 0715 which was AMAZING Grin

ami9 · 03/02/2016 09:24

I need to go buy senakot today. Have bad stomach cramps but no luck in the bathroom x

nekobus · 03/02/2016 09:31

Thanks BIWI, good point re processed food, I need to be a bit more organised and not just open the fridge door and see what's there!

Today's meals:

B - 2 hb eggs with butter, tea with soya milk, coffee and cream
L - salad with smoked mackerel (eek! Does this count as processed BIWI?)
D - salmon fillet with lc veg (broccoli, spinach, courgetti)
S - going to try not to snack
Water - 3 litres

Good question Disco, they are so handy to just grab as snack but yesterday I had at least 4...
