Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where you get to make a decision!

Afternoon all! Apologies for the later than usual start to this week's chat thread.

Here's the spreadsheet

I was up so early I completely forgot to weigh this morning Blush

Now. It's week 3, so you get to decide. Do you want to move onto Bootcamp Light, or do you want to stay on Bootcamp? Or, do you want to do both - Bootcamp during the week, and then relax at the weekend, with Bootcamp Light?

The rules for Bootcamp Light are at the bottom of the spreadsheet, but in a nutshell it means you can add nuts/seeds (occasionally, and in moderation); you can eat some fruit - mainly berries, and again in moderation, and you can have the occasional alcoholic drink - again, stick to spirits and wine.

If you're happy staying on Bootcamp, that's fine - but if you decide to do this, please make sure you're getting most of your carbs from veg and salad, and not from other processed foods, otherwise you won't be getting optimal nutrition.

And now for the warning! It's very, very common in weeks 3 and 4 (and sometimes even 5) for weight loss to slow/stop altogether. If this happens to you, please don't be disheartened. It's your body catching up with you! KOKO, and things will soon start to move again - albeit that you're more likely to see smaller weekly losses, around 1-2lbs a week.

Oh yes, will also probably stay on BC, although maybe not, might add in some fruit (although will wait til have new tooth onlay before attempting the cherries again, just in case!)

lavenderhoney · 02/02/2016 07:08

I lost a pound, which as I've started exercising more and am uber stressed with court, is fine - half a stone down anyway in all since start of bootcamp:)

I was really hungry last night, which was a little comfort eating I think- and I had some celery with coleslaw quite late which isn't like me- I'm eating 3 meals a day and drinking 2 litres plus water.

B- boiled eggs, coffee with cream
L- salad
D- chicken with courgettes and leeks
S - babybel and celery and coleslaw.

Actually I'm also incredibly short tempered but I put that down to stress, and impending period:(

lavenderhoney · 02/02/2016 07:10

Oh yes, and the strict vision bc for me- I don't like fruit, bread or pasta it's only roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings which are my downfall. I'll just have to make less.

Equiem89 · 02/02/2016 07:22

Can someone add my weight of 142 please. Weight loss has definitely slowed this week, 2lb compared to 6lb in the first but i knew that would happen

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 02/02/2016 07:52

Dulcolax worked. Promise to stop posting about poo now Grin

Made a smoothie - greek yog, blueberries and black currants, stick of celery, water. Very nice. I (contrary to todays breakfast) will be sticking mostly with bc. Chocolate is still unopened in the fridge :)

mustbemad71 · 02/02/2016 08:05

Morning all!

Inspired by Beyond I have just had a smoothie for breakkie:

Frozen blueberries, spinach, avocado, almond milk, Greek yog, 1 tsp almond nut butter.

Delish but not convinced I'll be full until lunchtime.

ChesterDrawers · 02/02/2016 08:20

Morning all, rough day at work expected but I will NOT comfort eat!

B: Three left over sausages
L: I have a tin of tuna and an avocado with me so will buy a bag of salad to liven it up
D: Will probs be an omelette as DH away and DS will eat at after school club

Off to update the spreadsheet now.

FelicityFunknickle · 02/02/2016 08:32

Hurrah Beyond
Well done to chester and lavender soldiering under stress.
I am the worst bcer in the history of bc.
Tip: before you give in to wine remember that next morning you are likely to feel even more tired/ grumpy/ hard to resist everyone else's toast.
Ok. Back on it.

Melinda you could also add a tsp of coconut oil to make it extra filling.

mustbemad71 · 02/02/2016 08:44

Melinda. You won't MSA the spinach if you don't have any in - just as nice without!

mustbemad71 · 02/02/2016 08:45

*miss

Oh yeah, i forgot to put spinach in mine! Oops!! Grin

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 02/02/2016 09:25

Wand - almost nothing puts me off noshing chocolate in one go.
Lindt did some white chocolate and lemon centre Lindor on a special time-limited offer over here last year; I adored them and ate far too many, which definitely contributed to my increased weight. A couple of weeks ago we were in Sydney and I found a Lindor pop-up shop - and they had these lemon jobs, that had long gone from everywhere else! I bought quite a lot of them, and also some raspberry dark chocolate ones, that I'd not seen before - spent $23 (£11.50 or thereabouts) and scarfed the lot over 2 nights Blush, although tbf part of the reason was to get them out of the way! But still. I'd probably have done it anyway.

I like the sound of the Hotel Chocolat single origin stuff though, might have to try that when I'm back in the UK at Easter... Grin

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 02/02/2016 09:29

Dinner didn't quite go as planned.
It got so late, and I had to pick DS1 up from tae kwondo, that I sacked off the duck and beans and let the boys have Maccers Blush, I still had the rosti (made with julienne grated swede and courgette, parmesan and cheddar, salt and an egg to bind it, then fried in butter and oil - very tasty!) and a tin of red salmon instead.

mustbemad71 · 02/02/2016 09:34

I think I'll have to lay off the choccie - I with you Thumb - I have never been able to restrict myself to just one square a day or other such nonsense!

Morning all!

Im so encouraged to see everyones weightloss as I am just about ready to throw in the towel. I have been doing this for three weeks now (started a week before bc offically started) and despite my weighing in day being friday I succumbed to the temptation to weigh again today.

After teetering around for a couple days I am now back at the exact weight I started. How and why?! Confused. Im pretty sure I am following to the letter and have between 1.5-8 of ketones in wee every day. Drinking like a camel. The only thing i think it could possibly be is maybe im eating too much veg? I have cut out dairy now as was worried that was stalling me. I have about 6st to lose so even a piddly pound would be nice!! Im also now on the 3rd week of this period so maybe my hormones are going haywire?!

Anyway yesterday I had:
B-Half avo with 3 slices bacon
L-Chicken salad with mayo
S- roasted aubergine with garlic and evoo, square of 80% choc
D- chicken salad again

TomHaverford · 02/02/2016 09:50

Also would like to add that my husband who is also low carbing has lost 10lbs and he's had cheat days Envy

Gcalgske · 02/02/2016 10:04

tom maybe weigh and count your veg for a few days just to get into the way of portion size?

My OH occasionally low carbs with me - he's a bit chunky and loses weight so fast - he a total pain too. Moans constantly that he is hungry and drives me mad.

Looking at your menu I'd query what you mean by 'salad'. If it's just mixed leaves it's pretty much eat as much as you like but once you add in other veg you need to be thinking about portions. Also 'aubergine' as a snack, was that a small aubergine or a big one or just a bit?

I'm a long term low carber, I have IR/ PCOS so my hormones are all to pot. I don't lose weight easily, I need to be around 20g carbs per day. You maybe need to do what Dr Atkins suggests where by you cut back to 20g and then increase by 5g at a time and see where you stop losing to find your level?

StuntNun · 02/02/2016 10:05

Tom it can take some people longer to see the initial weight loss. Common causes are previous history of low calorie dieting, PCOS or thyroid issues. I'm not saying you have any of those, just that there can be reasons for it taking longer to get weight loss started. Have you tried measuring your waist? Do you feel better? Less bloated, sleeping better or more energy? Are you enjoying the food?

VikingLady · 02/02/2016 10:17

Thank you BIWI both for updating me and for the picture. It does help!

Stuntnun Breakfast is generally a bucketful of tea with almond milk as it's the lowest carb option. Plus whatever I had the energy to prep the night before, or peanuts and an asda peperami (fewer additives and no MSG).

DS seems to be ok with me having a small amount of cheese, eg Parmesan on top of something, but reacts badly to me having a large chunk of cheese, even cooked. And definitely no cheese sauces or cream! And only very occasional small amounts of scrambled egg or omelette. Poor kid.

What do you have? And can anyone suggest easy breakfasts for someone dairy and (mostly) egg free who has to deal with getting her ASD/PDA/ODD/who-knows-this-week-but-definitely-challenging DD ready for nursery? Please? I'm out of ideas!

FelicityFunknickle · 02/02/2016 10:24

Emergency breakfast idea: smoked mackerel/salmon ready to eat from packet?

Gcalgske · 02/02/2016 10:59

What about a chia pudding?
