Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where you get to make a decision!

BIWI · 01/02/2016 14:41

Afternoon all! Apologies for the later than usual start to this week's chat thread.

Here's the spreadsheet

I was up so early I completely forgot to weigh this morning Blush

Now. It's week 3, so you get to decide. Do you want to move onto Bootcamp Light, or do you want to stay on Bootcamp? Or, do you want to do both - Bootcamp during the week, and then relax at the weekend, with Bootcamp Light?

The rules for Bootcamp Light are at the bottom of the spreadsheet, but in a nutshell it means you can add nuts/seeds (occasionally, and in moderation); you can eat some fruit - mainly berries, and again in moderation, and you can have the occasional alcoholic drink - again, stick to spirits and wine.

If you're happy staying on Bootcamp, that's fine - but if you decide to do this, please make sure you're getting most of your carbs from veg and salad, and not from other processed foods, otherwise you won't be getting optimal nutrition.

And now for the warning! It's very, very common in weeks 3 and 4 (and sometimes even 5) for weight loss to slow/stop altogether. If this happens to you, please don't be disheartened. It's your body catching up with you! KOKO, and things will soon start to move again - albeit that you're more likely to see smaller weekly losses, around 1-2lbs a week.

Thanks for your encouragement Gcal and Stuntnun, i actually do have PCOS and a long history of trying to diet so that makes sense. When im having salad it is just lettuce and cucumber although yes I probably did overdo it on the aubergine.

I do feel better although somedays still have bad bloating and am exhausted although I put that down to my 7mo dd. I will KOKO as i have no alternative plan and do find this quite easy.

hefzi · 02/02/2016 11:31

Tom maybe you're going to have a week very soon where you find you've lost loads in one go?

My starting goal (not for this BC, just in general Grin) is 6 stone off too - I second the idea of checking your veg portions: I did in the first week, and was really shocked, in all honesty - I usually have veg at least 2 meals out of 3 (and sometimes all 3) and just my dinner salad came to 27gms of carbs. Mind you, it also explains why I could never understand why people struggled with 5 a day!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 02/02/2016 11:49

OK, I gave in a bit. Have had a shockingly bad tempered evening, DH is away and the boys were being utterly rampant PITAs.
I nearly went the whole collapse route and had chocolate - BUT didn't. Had cherries and double cream instead. God it was nice! And just plugged that "I need something" gap.

Gcalgske · 02/02/2016 11:52

tom PCOS and associated insulin / hormone disorder will heal on low carb, but your loss will likely be slower than most. I find I stick religiously for 6 weeks - loosing not an ounce the over night lose 2kg. Keep at it. Low carb really is the best thing for PCOS, it healed my cysts to the point that I got pregnant after years of TTC under the fertility clinic.

mustbemad71 · 02/02/2016 12:16

Gcal that is bloomin amazing - must tell my pal with PCOS! Keep going Tom!

Thumb - impressive willpower!

I really CBA with work today. Must stop surfing MN!

DiscoDancer · 02/02/2016 12:53

Haven't read previous posts so apologies but will catch up later. Have fallen off the wagon slightly but have been back on it. Very stressful few days but all over now. Am starting BC again to kick start me off again.

Can someone please add my weight of 76.6kg?

Hopefully will be more of a loss this week.

Apart from fruit, what sort of things do you guys add to your total FF Greek yog?

Wishing you all a low carb filled week!

Hello all after last years big loss I was at a stage where I desperately needed new bras as so saggy and baggy, just been fitted and back size from a 36 to a 32 and down a cup size! Have really enjoyed trying clothes on for the first time in ages, esp when I have to ask assistant for next size down, very loudly of course so the whole fitting room can hear instead of the next size up whisper I used to do
Biwi for president!

TomHaverford · 02/02/2016 13:19

Thank you all for your encouragement. The pcos is a right bugger and i want to have more kids so happy to do anything to help alleviate it.

Hefzi I think it must be the vegetables not helping things. I used to do slimming world which was a vegetable free for all so i imagine im used to having a much larger than normal portion. Will start weighing this evening.

B- Half an avocado
L- 1 babygem lettuce, cucumber, feta and evoo with a burger
D- have pork belly in the fridge so probably that with those cabbage steaks previously mentioned?

BIWI · 02/02/2016 13:41

Tom - what struck me about your previous menu was that it seems like quite a lot of food. Your snack alone sounds like a fourth meal!

Are you snacking out of habit? Or were you genuinely hungry? If the latter, then it would suggest that you're not getting enough fat. Was your chicken lean as well?

Re Bootcamp rules, are you really drinking enough water? At your weight you should be drinking a minimum of 3.5 litres of water day.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 02/02/2016 13:44

Delish chicken and avocado salad for lunch, mmm!

TomHaverford · 02/02/2016 14:35

Biwi- Maybe I am eating too much, altogether i think im eating much less and am not really hungry. The roasted aubergines we mashed in to a dip style affair and I had a few mouthfuls of that. I will try and keep portions smaller.

I def am drinking enough, im permaglued to the toilet from weeing so much. Im having at least 4l min per day so should be enough.

Hello everyone! I've been solo boot camping for 4 weeks now and have been through the joys of massive first week loss, moderate second week loss and horrible bounce back week 3 and 4 - it's so true what they say! The weight stall and a drop in motivation seem to come hand in hand and send me off the rails. However, I'm on week 5 now and hopefully back on track, still an 8lb loss from last month, after a dire Christmas of face-stuffing, so all very encouraging. I had a great run with bootcamp last year, so looking forward to checking in here for a bit of motivation and inspiration. Thanks for having me!

BIWI · 02/02/2016 15:53

You're welcome!

I lost another 3lb in the last week, so that's 10lb since I started on 6th January! Smile

I'm now approaching the dreaded "dead zone" - but I have an added incentive of having booked a skiing holiday yesterday, in 3 weeks time and salopettes to get into BlushGrinShock

I'm therefore staying on Boot Camp most of the time with wine allowed on Fridays and Saturdays and maybe Sundays

I'm glugging down the water like nobody's business and enjoying a daily herb tea with teaspoon of coconut oil (I might have more herb tea, especially in this miserable weather, but then it's without the oil).

Now that full Boot Camp has been completed and people have the option of doing Boot Camp Lite, I can share menus. Because I started on 6 January, I'd completed Boot Camp in time for Burns Night Wink

Today was yoghurt with cinnamon (I'd run out of blueberries). Lunch was a bag of pork scratching and a square of dark chocolate Blush. Dinner will be cold roast pork with roasted broccoli and some brussel sprouts microwaved in butter.

AuntieMaggie · 02/02/2016 16:44

Another one with pcos here and this woe really helped my symptoms last time and I also conceived!

I'm not weighing this week as AF has arrived with full force and has exacerbated another issue I have so I'm in agony, doped up with codeine and in a fowl mood... if I weigh and find out I've put on my usual AF weight it will mess with my motivation so staying away from scales... also it's week 3 for me so expecting a bit of a stall. I had lost 5kg as of Friday though... hence why I don't want to weigh until normal service has resumed Grin

LexLoofah · 02/02/2016 16:56

am I kidding myself I can have Yorkshires with our roast beef? will be half a tablespoon of flour in a portion and 5.96g per tablespoon so a little under 3g for one? carbs per 100g are well scary though but with the egg in it and the goosefat they will be roasted in will that counter the insulin response effect?

HammerToFall · 02/02/2016 17:04

Food today, not great due to being out and about most of the day but at least no carbs!

B - cold slice of belly pork
L - scratching and a babybel (not a baby elephant) Blush
T - chicken wrapped in Parma ham, lettuce cucumber radish hard boiled egg and blue cheese sauce
S - cold l/c sausage

mustbemad71 · 02/02/2016 17:25

Anyone's sex drive improving with this WOE?!! Can't decide if it's because I've got more energy or if it's ASAP result of feeling a bit better about my body? Maybe a bit of both! Grin

Wombatinabathhat · 02/02/2016 17:41

Feek momof Equiem* I've added you
Disco know Somebody had added you

B: Ham and mayo
L: curry
D: Braising steak, buttered cabbage, sprouts and broccoli

nekobus · 02/02/2016 18:35

Thanks for the new thread BIWI, not caught up with all the posts yet as a busy couple of work days.

Wasn't well prepared in the office today as I missed lunch to meet a deadline and had only brought some hm dressing and LC mayo to add to a salad but never got the time to pop to shops. Ended up stopping in at a garage on way home for a pepperami and some cheese - best I could do!

B 2 hb eggs, 2 babybel, coffee w cream, tea w soya milk
L - late lunch of pepperami and 2 babybel
D - will be steak, salad and maybe some cauli mash
S - 2 slices chorizo, bite of brie

Seems a bit cheese heavy!!

Been feeling much slimmer even though I sts this week. Bought a size 12 skirt in white stuff at the weekend which is a first in a long long time Smile
I doubt I'm really a 12 as I am 177 lb and 5'5 but felt good anyway!

Equiem89 · 02/02/2016 19:06

Thanks wombat

Gcalgske · 02/02/2016 19:15

Are cherries ok? hopeful

Gcalgske · 02/02/2016 19:20

mustbemad your friend is welcome to PM me on here if she wants a chat. Also, sex drive wise yes I find mine improves (from nine to some) Wink
There is lots of chat in low carb groups about improving mood disorders, clearer thinking, less emotional roller coaster type emotional responses once a ketogenic state is achieved. I'm not good on science BUT I can say that anecdotally at least for me it's true. I have PTSD and whether it's being in control of food/ less emotional eating/feeling better about myself physically or a chemical reaction in the brain I can't say but it's real and it happens.

Gcalgske · 02/02/2016 19:20
