Low Carb Bootcamp - our final weigh-in! (And ongoing chat thread)

BIWI · 20/07/2015 07:23

Morning all!

Here, for the last time this Bootcamp is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Hopefully the scales will be kind to you for our last weigh-in!

For those of you that are still here - even you lurking at the back! - it would be great to hear how much you've lost this Bootcamp.

And also, we'll keep this thread going for chat - when it fills up I'll start another general low carb chat thread.

I thought gin was the usual recommendation? Don't bother with the tonic. Wink

I'm doing ok so far. Discovered a nice snackette today - it was just something I felt like and it worked - grated cheese and cucumber mixed together (Julienne grater, not normal one). Just took the edge off.

Still not got to the correct amount of water (3L) but had 1.5L today so improving. 3lb down since Tuesday...

StuntNun · 23/07/2015 14:48

That's totally expected Abbey, it will be water retention masking the weight loss. You should see another drop on the scales in the next week or two if you keep following the rules.

I am a little concerned about people eating a very low amount of calories. Your calorie intake should drop of its own accord if you have a stone or more to lose but below 1200 calories isn't necessarily a healthy way to eat. I have a stone to lose and today my food intake clocks in at 2500 calories comprised of 10% carbs, 23% protein, 67% fat. I get an extra 500 calorie allowance for breastfeeding but that still leaves 2000 calories for me.

Abbey0134 · 23/07/2015 15:16

Thanks for the replies. I'm not deliberatly doing low calorie and I'm sure that some days my counting is not so accurate, so I allow a couple of hundred for that. I'll stick with it. In fact, I've just come in a from a 'challenging lunch situation'.... where the only thing I could eat on the menu was feta salad, everyone else was on cheese scones and huge hunks of quiche. But I wasn't even tempted. Long may it last.

Good luck everyone, it's such a battle.....

Kleptronic · 23/07/2015 21:41

All the fat is making me feel nauseous. And I'm repeatedly 10% over my protein aim. Carbs are low though! Just as well cos that extra protein's probably turning to carbs. Averaging 1700 - 1900 cals a day.

Kleptronic · 23/07/2015 21:53

Breakfast:
2 egg omelette with brie and Delouis mayo in olive oil
Lunch:
Roast pork cubes with Delouis, green salad and spinach
Dinner:
Salmon and spinach in olive oil, creme fraiche and cheddar cheese sauce

2 coffees with double cream
8 glasses of water

Should I lose the cheese do you think. Or ditch dairy altogether. I really feel quite bilious, have done all week.

BIWI · 23/07/2015 22:11

I'd probably drop some of it.

And drink more water ...

OP posts:
Kleptronic · 23/07/2015 22:19

aw bugger more water? I'm awash! I'm 11st 2lbs, that's about 2 litres I thought?

trashcanjunkie · 23/07/2015 22:25

Evening lovelies. So, had a slight blip this afternoon, however, I did not then launch myself head first into shit. Clawed back onto the wagon and am moving forwards.

Feel like such a chump, as I've been doing this successfully for ages, and have really struggled over the last month.

Gonna fight like a tiger now. Grrr.

thumb I think I'm ok with eggs, thank goodness. That would be cruddy. I'm also ok with mushrooms, and olives, so there's a modicum of variety.....

When I stick to the foods I know are ok, and I'm not under undue stress, or in the middle of a huge gut kick off, things do go smoothly.

It just feels grim sometimes. Then, at other times, it's completely fine Grin

BIWI · 24/07/2015 08:58

Kleptronic If you read Bootcamp rules, look at the tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet , at your weight you should be drinking 3 litres a day

I have been mostly been doing BC lite, haven't lost any weight bit have easily maintained my loss of 16ibs on the January boot camp. This really feels like a permanent change in my woe now. I am planning to do a strict boot camp next time round to shift another half stone. I love this woe, am free from food cravings entirely. Thank you BIWI Flowers

Kleptronic · 24/07/2015 10:47

Ah ok 3ltrs thanks BIWI!

Must read spreadsheet again...must read spreadsheet again...must stop making up own rules!

10lbsleft · 24/07/2015 11:22

miffy thanks for that explanation. how long does it usually take to drop that initial 5lb when returning to a lchf woe? my tummy looked HUGE and pregnant like in a dress i wore Monday. Much huger than when I was another 14lbs heavier IMO. however i have also noticed that my shorts and trousers i previously wore at 14 lbs heavier that were VERY snug are still hanging off me. any explanation for that?

Beccus · 24/07/2015 14:44

pukka licorice and peppermint tea. delicious. but is it allowed? it was v sweet so must be quite carby. I do love my cafes, but struggle to choose something now I know milk is so carby. are fruit teas ok? what do other people order?

billabye · 24/07/2015 17:55

Beccus if you look on a supermarket website it should show you how many carbs. I like the Sweet Rhubarb one and that's minimal carbs so you might be ok

StoneFoxMama · 24/07/2015 19:01

Beccus I've been drinking both that one and the egyptian licorice after looking a bit insane at mils sipping it and mumbling that it absolutely must have sugar in it as it's so sweet. I had to google straight away and found a mfp breakdown which stated it had no carbs and found out some very interesting facts about the licorice root and it's natural sweetness but i think lack of impact on blood sugar. I've been drinking it and still lost, but you may want to do more research.

Beccus · 24/07/2015 20:30

I looked up mft and found it v confusing. apparently it has no micronutrients at all but is still 80 calories. right, am going to try googling the super markets

Milllii · 24/07/2015 21:54

I think you have to be careful with liquorice tea and blood pressure .

StoneFoxMama · 24/07/2015 22:59

Yes it is advised against drinking it if you have hypertension, this has no bearing on blood sugars as far as I know.

StoneFoxMama · 24/07/2015 23:11

I've copied the paragraph below which details a bit about licorice and effect on blood sugars. It is up to 100 times sweeter than sugar but has no effect on blood sugars, a bit like stevia. I drink the yogi teas both egyptian licorice and mint and licorice and they have zero calories.

Liquorice + shatavari is ayurvedic gold for diabetes. The 'sweet but not sugar' herbs are very good for diabetics (including stevia), the sweetness is different from sugar if you notice - different tastebuds notice the taste as sweet-. Make sure to keep potassium levels up and drink the tea in moderation - 2 cups a day or so tops. Liquorice is a harmless tonifying herb - just don't consume unearthly quantities -

Gcalgske · 24/07/2015 23:24

I've been wondering about fruit teas, a lot of them have fruit ingredients (like peach powder etc) they can't be that low. I presumed my fennel tea was ok but that's just because it's fennel herb/ seed. I wish they would put carb counts on. A lot of the twinning used to say 0.2g per cup but now say 0.

Beccus · 25/07/2015 09:42

thx stone, that's really helpful. so are the 'sweet but not sugar' herbs allowed on bc/bcl? are other sweetners, like sweet n low, still not allowed? am also confused about 70% + chocolate. I've seen it used on the bootcamp recipe thread, but it's at least 30% carbs

BIWI · 25/07/2015 10:10

Beccus - have you read Bootcamp rules? Sweeteners are not allowed during Bootcamp, but can be introduced (in strict moderation) on Bootcamp Light - hence why some recipes use them.

We avoid them because:

  • we're trying to retrain our tastebuds, and break the hold that sweet things have over us
  • they're artificial/processed (even 'natural' Stevia is processed)
  • there's some suggestion that the body responds to them as if they were sugar

Beccus · 25/07/2015 10:37

thx biwi, I will go have another look at the rules.

thetroubleis · 25/07/2015 15:43

Marking my place for Monday- need to print off the spreadsheet stuff for shopping etc tomorrow.

I wasted £60 on SW 3 month membership and have been doing the trick where you do it for 2 days, off for 3.

Tried 5:2 and that bizarrely triggered binge eating.

I love how calm you all seem on this board though, and I think it's the panic that gets me, but the one thing I have going for me is that I do go to the gym 3+ times a week for a proper work out, and I manage 8-10k steps a day knocking about.

I do need to drink more water though.

See you Monday :)

10lbsleft · 25/07/2015 16:01

BIWI are liquorice and shatavari that are mentioned further down processed?
