Low Carb Bootcamp - our final weigh-in! (And ongoing chat thread)

BIWI · 20/07/2015 07:23

Morning all!

Here, for the last time this Bootcamp is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Hopefully the scales will be kind to you for our last weigh-in!

For those of you that are still here - even you lurking at the back! - it would be great to hear how much you've lost this Bootcamp.

And also, we'll keep this thread going for chat - when it fills up I'll start another general low carb chat thread.

RaisinGirls

Remind me - when did you start Bootcamp? I seem to remember you joined us part way through, is that right? What week are you in, if that's the case?

Having a look at your menus:

SUNDAY:
AM: Coffee with double cream. two eggs and double cream scrambled with chorizo - fried in butter.

This looks fine, but it could be that you have an issue with dairy - do you know if this is the case?

LUNCH: two pieces of cooked chicken (drumsticks / thighs) with mayo and salad

Good! Did you eat the skin on the chicken? Did you have an oily dressing on your salad?

DINNER: homemade chili made with low carb tomatoes and lots of oil with lots of cheese grated on top.

This looks OK, and I know we talked about the way you were going to make this - did you use shallots instead of onion? But dairy again

SAT:

AM: Coffee with double cream. two eggs and double cream scrambled with mushrooms - fried in butter.

Same comment as before about dairy

LUNCH : Nothing as was full

DINNER: homemade pork burgers, with cheese, fried in oil with salad

How fatty was the pork? Again, did you have an oily dressing on your salad? And cheese ...

You haven't told me how much water you've been drinking (or what else you've been drinking!)

It might be worth you cutting out the dairy for a couple of days to see what difference that makes.

I'm starting again today. I had a major collapse and fail, and then decided there was no point starting again until after my birthday. So that was last weekend, and I was going to start yesterday except DH Hmm bought me artisan chocolates for my birthday, so I had to make sure they were all gone before starting. (Reason for waiting until after birthday = Christmas pudding)

So here I am. And determined to stick to it this time, again. Sadly I undid all my good work before Easter and am back to 12st, where I started the beginning of the year; my aim is to drop below 11st this time around. At least. Pref more.

ditavonteesed · 21/07/2015 07:47

signing in, 12.2lbs loss for bootcamp, I couldn't be happier thank you so much BIWI you have literally changed my life.

Sorry I havent been around much been mad busy on placement. I have been having lovely salads for lunch and lots of yummy bullet proof coffees. The caffeine has been sneaking back in but thats ok everything else is very much under control.

Now its 10 weeks till I go to centre parks and will need to look ok in a swimsuit, I would be very happy if I could repeat and get another 12lbs off.

SayraT · 21/07/2015 08:31

Well, I've lost 1lb over this BC!! Thats what I get for all my faffing about etc, I need to get myself back under control!!

RaisinGirls · 21/07/2015 08:43

BIWI Thanks Goethe review. I've been doing BC for two weeks. Lots of oil in salads, the pork was 15% fat I think (the highest I could find in shop). I'm drinking lots of water - 2-3 litres a day I estimate, and no alcohol.
Maybe it is the dairy. I'll easy off that and see how it goes.

TwoflowersLuggage · 21/07/2015 12:42

I'm checking in.... shame I didn't check in a little more frequently during actual Bootcamp!
Result of a 3.1lb gain over starting weight!
I need to get back on to this WOE as I feel so much better without lots of carbs and bread in particular.
So I'm going to keep up with reading this thread every day for inspiration and a reminder of what can happen if I stick to it.
Thanks to BIWI and everyone for all their hard work and encouragement.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 21/07/2015 13:25

Well I am at the end of my Day 1 so I will report:

B - forgot Blush - bad start. But better than having the hot chocolate I have been having daily because it's so effing cold here at the moment (winter in an uninsulated house).
L - celery stick filled with Boursin; couple of cold sausages (not ideal and they will stop), a Babybel cheese and I think that was it.
D - savoury cauli rice (spring onion and mushrooms fried in butter and olive oil, blitzed cauli added, a dash of soy sauce and garlic salt, and then I fried an egg into it as well) mixed with leftover turkey.

I did then also have a mandarin this evening, because I've found that they stop my acid reflux (I'm currently in the throes of being investigated for a hiatus hernia, which I'm pretty sure is to do with the mammoth spare tyre I have, pushing my stomach around in my abdomen Blush) but it was my last mandarin so I won't have any more while I get going again.

1L of water so far, I really need to work this up better. Always my down fall and I am determined to do better this time.

BIWI · 21/07/2015 13:26

Ah - Raisin - you're in the infamous week 3. Don't worry - it's something that often happens to people in weeks 3 and 4 - just keep on keeping on and the weight loss will start again. (That said, it's always worth keeping an eye on the dairy as it can cause some people problems)

Wow, can't believe bootcamp is over already! Thank you for all the help and advice Flowers . What happens next, is there another bootcamp straight away?
Been reading Dr Briffa's book over the last week, really interesting and I wish I had read it sooner.

Now that fasting is over - I want to start exercising more, 2-3 times a week and drink more water of course. Thank you for mentioning the Apple cider vinegar in the last thread, it is a great addition!

Well done everyone! It's lovely to hear about the losses, let's keep at it Star Star
Lost 16 pounds over the course of the bootcamp and to think I wasn't going to join. So glad I did Grin I've become a much better cook and my family are slowly getting on board. Aiming to get under 14 stone 7, and hopefully get into the 13 stone bracket by september.
Thank you so much, feeling so motivated to make a change and stick to it.

trashcanjunkie · 22/07/2015 11:01

Saranghae posts like that are very inspiring. Thanks.

So I'm going to post food to keep myself motivated and on track. I'm dabbling with dairy as taking it out completely for weeks made very little difference, my weight stayed pretty much the same. I'm going to really limit it though.

Yesterday's food

Breakfast
Two boiled eggs, butter and a small hm beef pattie

Lunch
Prawn, avocado and romaine with oil and vinegar dressing

Snack
Pret a mange crayfish and avocado salad. (2.6 g carbs)

Dinner
Pork sizzle steaks fried in beef dripping with romaine leaves and hm dressing

Drinks - approx one ltr peppermint tea plus two litres water plus a decaf bfc

So, I begin day three (always feels like I'm at the beginning of my journey) and breakfast this morning was a small portion of Greek yoghurt, which feels like a huge treat. I sliced three small strawberries and toasted some almond flakes to top it. Am currently drinking a large peppermint tea. I've gone caffeine free too. I'm really on the fence with the dairy. I worry about my food being too restricted.

Due to shocking ibs type symptoms which I'm having investigations for, I've been advised to stick to eating the veg that doesn't aggravate my tummy. This seems to be basically salad leaves like spinach, watercress, pea shoots etc any lettuce and courgettes.

So on I plod. My hypnotherapy session at the weekend involved creating a positive image of myself 'winning' at the weightloss. Over the last few days before falling asleep I've been visualising myself as this 'winner' and the visualisation began standing in the palm of my right hand. Now it's a full sized person, who seems to appear in moments of difficulty, and pops an arm round my shoulder Confused

I'm going back on Saturday to see if he can help me manage inflammation, pain, fatigue and get back the ability to exercise.

Managed a brisk walk to and from the city yesterday, and the plan is to swim this afternoon with the dcs and climbing this evening.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 22/07/2015 11:08

trashie - I don't like to suggest it, considering, but have you thought that it might be eggs causing the IBS? scdlifestyle.com/2012/08/13-causes-of-ibs-d-most-doctors-never-test-for-but-should/ try this link for more ideas as well. :)

rosieposey · 22/07/2015 11:38

Hello, i am not sure i am on the right thread but i am really interested in low carbing and wondered if anyone could advise me a little bit?

I am reading as much as i can and as far as i can see low carbing is looking good for most people on this and other threads i just haven't got a clue where on earth to start?

I thought today i would have a couple of eggs for breakfast, some chicken and chorizo skewers for lunch with a side salad and two pork steaks with a salad for dinner with snacks or pork scratchings and/or cheese? Also coffee ( is decaf ok?) with double cream?

I really hope to be able to join you, i think it might be too late on this thread but is there another support thread for beginners at all? I have so many questions and i appreciate that you must get this all of the time so i don't want to be a PITA!

It's just silly things like can i eat olives and feta cheese? Which Babybel is best, low fat or high fat ( i know you are supposed to eat plenty of fat on low carbing plans but if its possible to eat a bit lower fat here and there to cut back calories then i would like to) i have such an awful lot of weight to lose ( 7 - 8 stone) and my health isn't at its best ( type 2 diabetes which low carbing is supposed to really help) so i really want this to work just would be so grateful for some advice and support. Thanks!

rosieposey · 22/07/2015 11:41

Oh and does anyone know if any of the stuff from low carb megastore ( or a similar place) that sells things like low or no carb wraps are any good - can you eat them if they are very low carb - i know its cheating a bit ( and they are very expensive!) but i was just wondering for things like steak fajitas?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 22/07/2015 12:43

BIWI is excellent at answering questions like yours, Rosie but I can give you some info.

Your menu for today sounds fine to me, but make sure you include lots of water. By the sound of it you need to be looking at a minimum of 3.5L, if not 4 (BIWI will know) per day, to help with the flushing. You will also need to keep up your salt intake to counteract the flushing.

Regarding low fat anything, no, don't do it. Full fat everything. Calories are a bit of an irrelevance in this way of eating (WOE) because you need the fat and protein to help turn things over and help with the reduction in sugar/carb dependence.

Re. wraps - buy an iceberg lettuce and use the leaves! Works brilliantly, IMO. Some higher class burger places even do this with their low-carb burgers.

readyforno2 · 22/07/2015 13:11

Rosie, there's a link in the op. It will take you to the spreadsheet where you will find the rules of bc and veg carb lists.
I lost almost 7 stone last year. It can be done!

miffy49 · 22/07/2015 14:10

Yep! Its a great way to lose weight. Once you get through the first couple of weeks you will feel really well and your skin gets a glow to it. Just follow Biwi's instructions (in the tabs at the bottom of the spread sheet) and you will do fine. Most of us here have had far more to lose than can be achieved in a Boot Camp so we will all be tootling along here until the next one starts.

cathyandclaire · 22/07/2015 14:35

Hi all I've been ( and still am ) on holiday for the last few weeks so have been lurking quietly. However I've kept on bootcamp light and gone to the gym a bit ( with INDUSTRIAL quantities of rose and gin) and I found some scales yesterday and I have lost weight. I mean the scales could be wrong but I tried two sets and you can see my abs a bit too. Anyway I've added a pound ( just to be conservative) and it makes my end weight 114 lb, a loss of 9lb which was my target. It's the first holiday where I haven't rolled home feeling blubbery. Thanks so much BIWI and Sayra and all for the advice. ????????????

10lbsleft · 22/07/2015 16:56

i lost 27.8 lbs in 13.5 weeks. however I have put on a whopping 14lbs in 9 days on holiday. i normally put on around 5 lbs on holiday and haven't eaten or drunk any more than any other holiday. do you think i put on so much more because i was eating so drastically different before going away?

miffy49 · 22/07/2015 17:13

It depends on your personal build, but everyone stores around 1lb of glycogen in the liver. You lose that when you first go LC and it takes around 4lb of water with it. This means that anyone who has eaten low carb and then goes back to a carb heavy diet will put back the first 4 or 5lbs they lost immediately. In theory you have gained 4lb more than usual because you have regained around 4-5lb of water and glycogen.

readyforno2 · 22/07/2015 20:03

I love egg fried cauliflower rice. Made enough for dinner tonight and lunch tomorrow.
There's none left for lunch Confused

Kleptronic · 22/07/2015 20:36

I am so glad you said that miffy because I put 5lbs on last week at Butlins being a in a holiday carb fest and was totally puzzled as to how! I certainly didn't eat 5lbs of fat over my TDEE and that explains it.

Abbey0134 · 23/07/2015 08:40

I've been low/v low carbing for almost four weeks now. I've introduced 3 zumba classes a week plus one aqua, I've only lost 7lbs and that was in the first two weeks. Feeling a bit fed up that nothing is happening at the moment. Hoping and praying that the whoosh fairy pays a visit very soon. I'm determined to stick with it, but slightly mystified, when I am eating very little and nothing is happening. Very, very frustrating. I am entering what I've eaten into mfp and on average my carb count is 15 or under and my calories can be as low as 900 or up to about 1500. I've read various reports that say there is no such thing as 'starvation mode' but I'm kind of hoping that's what is happening.

BIWI · 23/07/2015 08:43

How on earth is it very frustrating that you've lost half a stone?! Grin

What you're suffering from is the week 3/4 slow down. It happens to most of us, and I post about it regularly on the Bootcamp threads. After you lose a lot in weeks 1 and 2, which is water, glycogen and some fat, your body is switching to burning fat, rather than carbs. It's an adjustment period, and once complete, you will start to see the weight go again. From now on, though, it will be at a slower rate of around 1-2lbs a week (depending on how much you have to lose).

Stop eating so few calories - this won't make any difference (in fact it can impede weight loss), and don't restrict your carbs so much.

You know it works, so just keep on keeping on (KOKO), and all will be well.

Honestly!

If you don't believe me, just ask all the other Bootcampers ...

RaisinGirls · 23/07/2015 09:52

I am going to keep on with this, despite the weight gain of 2lbs. I am off on holiday for a week or so, but its self catering so I can stay on top of what I am eating. Will download the spreadsheet as a reference so that I know what I should be eating.

By the way, can I drink tonic water? Was wondering if that was something I could drink if I went to the pub.

Gcalgske · 23/07/2015 10:57

Slim line tonic is sugar free but has artificial sweeteners so can effect some people. It's just like having diet coke really.
