Morning all!

Here's the Spreadsheet

And The Weight Tracker

Up at silly o'clock to catch a train to Leeds so no time for anything else.

Hope your weigh-in brings you good news. But if it doesn't - don't fall into a pile of biscuits - come and rant about it here!

X-post with Saff

sassandfaff · 24/02/2015 10:01

gal I struggle for the 1st few weeks and then I'm OK. I use ducolax. They are fab.

I have used them twice since Jan 1st and been OK since.

Are you drinking enough water? Do you drink a lot of tea or coffee?

Because these are direutic (sp?) So they will de hydrate you.

galbraith · 24/02/2015 10:07

sass thanks for the advice, I'll try dulcolax next. I drink about 3L of water a day and don't drink tea or coffee at all (if I have any caffeine I get very twitchy as I'm not used to it!). I am 5'10 though so perhaps need to up the water even more!

I've also been eating a lot of red meat, which perhaps isn't helping. I've got some lamb to get through but then will perhaps switch over to more fish and chicken...

sassandfaff · 24/02/2015 10:07

Another thing I have realised- because I tend to be, feast or famine- is that when I don't eat enough, I find it harder to go.

Hth.

cymrukernow · 24/02/2015 10:09

Galbraith I also suffer from that sometimes - it's usually eating eggs thats a problem for me personally, plus not enough water and moving around. Have you tried using curry spices in your food? That can help me too! Grin

Romeyroo · 24/02/2015 10:11

galbraith, it is not TMI, I have the same problem. I am taking senna but I need about four tablets to make a difference and even then, it is only about every three days. Then I lose about 4lbs at once, and put it on again till I can go again. So, I never actually feel I am getting a proper idea of where I am weight-wise.

This morning, I was thinking sod the weight loss, I actually need to sort this problem out more urgently, as it makes me feel off after a day or two of it. Somebody said upthread that eggs did not help, so I am going to change my egg-based breakfast to a high-fibre/no sugar effort (whatever that looks like) - and also trying to get more exercise (this is a struggle at the moment).

Also wonder if on a ketogenic diet, your body also uses up a lot of water to convert the fat, so this contributes to the problem?

Romeyroo · 24/02/2015 10:12

x-post! Maybe I will go and by some Dulcolax too, but my memory of them is that they are vicious. I don't want to be doubled over the loo either!

cymrukernow · 24/02/2015 10:13

beautifulthing don't give up!! Wait 'til BIWI gets here, she may have some insight...

beautifulthing62 · 24/02/2015 10:13

Thank you Sass and Chester. Do I need to replace the cream with anything? I was being free with it for the fat content.
It was a BIG mushroom Chester! I think I am eating enough but that is something to consider. I'm obviously getting too many calories somewhere. I'm finding I'm getting confused now which is a shame as I felt really liberated by this WOE.

galbraith · 24/02/2015 10:16

Sass If anything I've been overeating the last few days, but definitely something to bear in mind! Perhaps my fat intake hasn't been high enough?

cymru I've had to cut out eggs for that very reason, although it makes breakfasts a bit tricky haha! Definitely time to get the spices out - perhaps I'll have a really hot curry tonight!

galbraith · 24/02/2015 10:18

Romeyroo Flowers for you, it's awful isn't it? I have the exact same battle with the scales, I haven't weighed yet this week as I know it'll be way off. Gross! Exercise sounds like a good idea, perhaps I should start getting off the train a stop early. And please let me know if you come up with a high-fibre low-carb breakfast!

beautifulthing62 · 24/02/2015 10:45

Thanks "CYMRU* . I'd deffo appreciate her input.
BIWI sock it to me

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 24/02/2015 10:59

gcal have you had a referral to a pain clinic? I've never been myself, but might be worth a try? I'm on a shit load of meds too, i know how you feel Flowers

ijustwanttobeme · 24/02/2015 11:09

gcal I will deffo be trying the anchor extra thick unsweetened squirty cream - thank you.

It's DS's birthday today (where have the years gone- my baby is now 17 Shock ) and we are going out for dinner tonight. For celebrations we always go to a particular Italian that does the hugest most flavoursome pizzas- hmm, will have to look at the other options from now on.

On top of that I am off to lunch with a friend, not sure where we are going though, but am sure they'll be LC options.

Breakfast was a cup of tea, ham and cheese.

ijustwanttobeme · 24/02/2015 11:10

There'll be ....

Pisseslikeahorse · 24/02/2015 11:12

galbraith - I get a bit bunged up and painful if my water intake has been low or i've been on the booze, try upping water and getting some oil in you. olive oil, tuna in oil or chunks of butter Smile

beautiful - I agree with sassandfaff , it looks like too much dairy, are you vegetarian? try upping your LC veg / salad fatty meat or fish and cut out the dairy to see what happens...

Amaxapax · 24/02/2015 11:21

Beautiful, I can't sing the praises of going dairy free enough. I didn't lose anything for three weeks. I dropped diary entirely and have lost four pounds in eight days.

I really thought I would struggle without cheese in particular, but now it feels like something that is nice to have, rather than a necessity.

I've also been drinking a lot of green tea, which took a little getting used to, but hits the hot drink spot and now I love it, with the added benefit of not requiring any cream or milk.

trashcanjunkie · 24/02/2015 11:28

Morning ladies,

Right, I have a couple of things to say.

Galbraith and anybody else suffering from 'the bungs'

5 ft 10 is rather tall and not knowing your weight, I would just assume you aren't getting enough liquid down. I'm around your height and 233lbs so need to drink at least 3.5 if not 4 ltrs daily.

Massive tmi alert..... I had surgery on my foot in October, and due to oramorph and codeine I didn't poo for over a week. In hospital they used a suppository, which failed to produce the results, so then I had an enema, which got things moving again, although painful at first. When I was discharged I had the same problem, so sent my darling dp up to the pharmacy at sainsburys, and he bought me a packet of mini enemas. I used them if I hadn't been for a day, and it certainly fixed the problem. I'm fine now, just drink lots of water.

Other people have had great success using physilium (sp) husks. I have had some before, bought from a little health shop. You can put them in yoghurt or even just in water and glug them back. They were like rocket fuel in my tummy, and set off my ibs so I give them a wide berth.

But really, once you're moving, water, water, water is the key here.

beautiful I would reiterate what others have said, you're very dairy heavy, which is fine if the scales are moving, but possibly not in your case. So yes, you do need to replace your fat - you could try coconut oil instead of cream in your coffee. basically, replace the cheese you're putting in your food with butter or a lc mayonnaise, a that's not considered dairy. And I'd totally knock the peanut butter on the head - perhaps try and find an almond butter instead as it's much lower carb.

Have you checked out the dairy free uber camp menu on the spreadsheet?

Let us know how that goes, and best of luck, I really know how fucking demoralising it can be to feel as though all the effort isn't paying off.

I have had two boiled eggs mashed with butter and mayo with a cup of tea, then another cup of rooibos, and I have a litre of lime and ginger herbal muck to take with me to work.

Lunch will be tuna and mayo salad

Dinner is going to be cottage pie with celeriac and swede mash on the top I think... never done that one yet.....

Pisseslikeahorse · 24/02/2015 11:38

Just back from the morning run, I've been putting in 5 days a week and it still doesn't seem to do much for my losses, my body has adjusted and seems to have accepted that this is what it does from the fuel I'm giving it Confused????

good going on the loss Trashy and a big well done to your dp, tell him to look up the sub30club on FB if he wants any input. A nice bunch of runners that are an excellent cheering crowd or advice base when needed, i've really relied on them in the same sort of way that we all do with this forum.

SayraT - just checking your ok ?

StuntNun · 24/02/2015 11:44

Do you do any weight training Pisses? I did the Stronglifts programme for a few months last year and I was getting good results both from a weight point of view and from a strength point of view, before pregnancy put a stop to it.

DrDiva · 24/02/2015 11:47

gcal Thanks that sounds grim. Hope the dr can help and pronto.

Coffee and a few nuts for breakfast. DS decided that getting dressed was going to be a long and arduous torture fest Hmm so I lost time to eat properly. Ah well. I have the leftover souvlaki and salad for lunch so looking forward to that.

Pisseslikeahorse · 24/02/2015 11:51

Not at the moment, I'm 4 weeks off doing a half marathon and in the middle of a heavy training plan. Im also still doing the press ups 3 times a week that average about 250-300 per session, so just focussing on core strength

Gcalgske · 24/02/2015 13:20

Thanks for Flowers everyone xx
beyond yes I'm under the pain clinic, had some minor back stuff done (nerve blocks) and he's got me to an excellenct private Physio but day to day my pelvis/back/sacrum/ etc is still to sore to be a mum to an active toddler without lots of codeine and naproxen. :( I am also trying to move more (walking 9k steps - aiming for 10k /swimming/Pilates - under physio's watchful eye) the plan is to strengthen my core and in the long run be able to reduce meds (but in the short-ish term means an increase because I'm in more pain during / after exercise).
The op I need should stabilise my pelvis by bringing all the muscles back together. Grr.
If anyone tells you PGP goes away after child birth feel free to hit them with a fish for me!

beautifulthing62 · 24/02/2015 13:34

Can I just check ....? If I'm going to drop the dairy can I still have soya milk? That's not dairy is it?

BIWI · 24/02/2015 13:51

Right, beautifulthing!

Breakfast is always a one egg omelette with cream and a leek and some mushiness fried in butter and a noggin of cheese. Coffee with soya milk and a dash of cream

I assume that 'mushiness' means mushrooms?! I'd cut out the leek and/or mushroom and have a two egg omelette - so that you're having a really low carb but high fat/protein breakfast.

The other thing here is the amount of dairy - cream twice, and cheese

Lunch - yesterday was a small portion of leftover IPD moussaka and some courgettes fried in butter

Lovely - but the IPD moussaka also uses a lot of dairy in the topping - cheese and cream

Supper - a portabello mushroom grilled with creme fraiche and blue cheese with spinach and cucumber and olive oil.

More dairy ...

And where's your protein? Are you a vegetarian?

Another couple of teas or coffees during the day with soya milk. Trying to get the 3 litres in but usually getting 2.5.

You really need to get the water in.

That is a fairly regular day. I don't really snack as I'm not hungry. If I do get hungry I'll have some celery and cream cheese or peanut butter

Great that you're not hungry - but those snacks again are likely to feature some dairy!

I think you are massively overdoing the dairy. Unless you're vegetarian, you also need to be adding protein from meat/fish.

I'm also concerned that you are not really eating very much - reference to 'small' portions, one egg omelette and one mushroom - even those big mushrooms shrink when you cook them.

So - my advice:

  • really cut down on the dairy (you might even want to try cutting it out totally for a couple of days); NB butter doesn't count - you can continue with that
  • make sure you're eating enough; no need to count calories at this stage, nor should you be worrying about how much fat you're eating
  • it's really important that you drink the water

HTH
