Week 2 - January Low Carb Bootcamp - the first moment of truth!

BIWI · 26/01/2015 07:33

Good morning! Already seen that there are some good losses, even for those in the dreaded week 3 Grin

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I love this point in Bootcamp. It's such a leap of faith for so many people when they first start low carbing, because it seems so strange to eat all the fat we're told to eat. But then when the scales show the result, I love it!

sayra could you please deduct 4ibs for me? Grin Flowers

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 26/01/2015 21:59

Evening all! A late post from me but I finally got near a desktop and put my weight on the spreadsheet. STS but that's no surprise as I've been doing this for a while - no whoosh. I'm going to do dairy free Monday to Friday and when (not if) I've done it I'm going to buy myself some make up. The other resolution for the week is to make some pork crackling, mainly to keep me off cheese. I'm still hungry enough for snacks at the moment.

Hope a night's sleep does the trick bitchy

How do I make pork crackling though?

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 26/01/2015 22:01

Hi all, long time low Carber here who did my first BC with BIWI back in 2013 with great success. I can definitely say that (for me, anyway) this WOE works, I also found it reduced my PMT, helped my sleep, I had much more energy and my skin looked better.
Sadly despite knowing how well this suits me, I went very off plan this Nov/Dec due to work and other issues so am rejoining as I know how much the threads, chat and food ideas are so motivating.

SayraT I'm another annoying IPad user so could you please enter my starting weight for last week as 170 and this week as 169. Many thanks. Good luck everyone for week 2 (or 3/4/5 if you are ahead!)

MrsKoala · 26/01/2015 22:15

Todays food has been:
b - 3 rashers bacon and mushrooms
l - feta and courgette frittata and green salad
d - goat in a jerk spice rub slow cooked with leeks and green peppers with swede mash
s - chunks of cheese and a slice of ham

So so so tired. DS1 has a rotten cold so up all night and crying all day and ds2 is teething so, um, up all night and, er, crying all day. I am shattered and craving sugar. :( Todays food has been lovely tho, so i am having a licourice and peppermint tea and trying to not think about food that i don't even want, but my body just thinks it does because it is so tired.

yongnian · 26/01/2015 22:18

sayra he and I are staring at each other over an enormous hay bale, me wielding a headcollar and him saying 'but its January....and it's written into my contract I always have January off!' Grin - he's got a point!
But will be dragging him off the bale soon to start fittening work and reminding him that his wild man of the mountains act is....well, just that, an act!

ChesterDrawers · 26/01/2015 22:19

Hats off to you Sarya for that super Superpost!

And thanks for whoever updated the spreadsheet for me today Flowers

Good day here, firmly back on the wagon and hoping for a loss this week.

Romeyroo · 26/01/2015 22:28

Wow, well done everyone on the losses. I don't have scales, so no weight to record. Tape measure looks about the same, so certainly no whooshes happening here. I am curious to weigh myself though. I guess I need to start exercising if I can find the time.

But lightbulb moment - majorly stressed this morning and found myself heading for the (dark) chocolate. And it felt like stress going up, chocolate consumption going up. I munched a (big) square, realised it was stress munching and went to tidy up (figured a tidy environment would help). Now I have noticed the trigger - action and stopped it, I am going to look out for it.

My goal for this week, aside from exercise, is to start my daily meditations again. The stress = chocolate reaction was so obvious even I noticed it.

On a more positive note, I made cottage pie with celeriac mash for dinner it was lovely.

B was eggs scrambled with bacon
L was spiralised cucumber with black olives and Mayo
S was cheese, I think cheese needs to go, tbh, i eat too much of it

Loads of water. I am sure this woe is good for your pelvic floor.

SayraT · 26/01/2015 22:30

I think that is my biggest ever superpost chester Grin

Weights added Almahart and toomuch

Haha yongnian how dare you want to ride in the winter, poor pony. I think I'll have to report you! Grin

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 26/01/2015 22:36

Thanks SayraT

MoJangled · 26/01/2015 22:43

In that case Sayra I luuurve the spreadsheet!!

But just in case it wasn't being nice, if someone's start weight of about 163lb has gone missing, it might have ended up on my line by mistake!

Mrsstevejones · 26/01/2015 22:49

Hi quick question............. If cabbage is quite carby relatively speaking (who knew) what about spring greens? They arent on the spreadsheet. A google search said 1.6g/100g - does that sound right?

Chicken cooked in slow cooker - was a success, really juicy and now have pork chops marinating in harrisa for tomorrows dinner.

TIA

outtolunchagain · 26/01/2015 22:58

3 pounds off for me , have updated spreadsheet, nearly are piece of cake today but resisted!

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 26/01/2015 23:14

I found a few different results for spring greens, but all were under 3.5g/100. I have some in the fridge :)

Wow, that was a huge post sayra! Grin

Newbiecrafter · 26/01/2015 23:38

SayraT, I know. I know I shouldn't have had it but I did and I'm back on track now. In the past I would have eaten the whole damn thing but I really feel like I have a new mindset and will not kept one mishap derail me.

Thanks for the warning that it will affect my weigh in next week. I'll bear that in mind.

I'd still like to know if omeprazole, peri menopause or caffeine can slow down weightloss. Any ideas?

By the way, any chance you could add me to the spreadsheet with a 0.2lb loss for this week. I still can't access it on my ipad.

Thanks so much.

ChippingInLatteLover · 27/01/2015 00:01

Chester & others

Thank you for the Aldi Avocado Love-in Grin. I have one about 5 miles away, but it's in the opposite direction to everywhere I go. Annoyingly. I might do the next 'veg shop' there and stock up as much as I can, but obviously can't get too many days worth. Thanks!

SayraT. Yes, as a non egg eating vegetarian (who hates cooking) it is really hard. It's difficult to get enough protein & even the 'fat' is difficult. It's hard to think of things to have. My 'go-to' is avocado & cheese with seeds for breakfast, salad with cheese for lunch & veg in a cheese sauce for dinner... Can you spot the issue there Grin. But it gets very monotonous. If I loved cooking it would be a bit easier, but even then, there's really not a lot of other options. I do stir frys, I do mushroom as use instead of cheese sauce, if I cba I'll do a 'leek' lasagne and a parmigiana. Breakfast either total or avocado, or left overs.

I'd like to eat less cheese as I think it stalls me, I certainly don't get the drops and can hold a weight for weeks and weeks, but it's difficult.

I try to avoid Quorn too as I think it's far too 'manufactured' and it has egg in it, but I do occasionally eat it.

I need a Lo carb vegetarian chef if anyone is offering!!

I envy the meat & egg eaters as I truly believe in this is a woe. It dropped my blood sugar levels from high, to normal, in under 3 months.

I wouldn't have done it without BIWI, she totally rescued me when I needed it xx

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 27/01/2015 00:06

There is evidence that caffine affects the amount of cortisol which is produced, cortisol being the hormone associated to stress. Cortisol is known to convert protein to glucose and is linked to increased abdominal fat amongst other scary things that have just made me uber determined to ditch my caffine intake Shock

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 27/01/2015 00:08

Sorry that bit of info was for newbie in my state of shock i forgot to add that bit. Mind you not sure how much it affects actual weight loss directly i was a bit too tired to delve into the heavy scientific papers. And it should be mentioned that it is only in excessive amounts that cortisol is an issue. Normal amounts are essential for normal function iyswm

ChippingInLatteLover · 27/01/2015 00:09

Then there have been the studies that disprove that.

I think, that it's one of those things that affects people differently and it's down to trial & error.

Unfortunately.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 27/01/2015 00:38

That is interesting chipping. I know the part that I was interested in was the links of cortisol and memory/calcium issues. Perhaps I googled the wrong aspect for the questioned asked?

ChippingInLatteLover · 27/01/2015 01:05

Probably not. Lots of the studies were found to be less than perfect shall we say. I can't remember the details now, just the relief Grin. There are studies 'proving' and 'disproving' and for various different reasons. I doubt it's going to cause anyone a problem unless they're mainlining very very strong coffee all day, but you know, if someone's sticking to BOOTCAMP & not losing for a sustained period, it's worth a try isn't it.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 27/01/2015 01:36

Have been known to drink 10 plus coffees per day Blush I think i have around 5 today not sure cos i lost count Hmm

Thumbwitch · 27/01/2015 05:12

I used to work in a situation where I was sent emails regularly about the positive effects on health that caffeine/coffee could have, in direct contrast to previous studies that have shown negative effects. These emails came from a publicity company, one who was paid to find all the positives about coffee/caffeine. I took many of them with a tablespoon of salt...

Thumbwitch · 27/01/2015 05:16

What I actually meant to post was my lunch today!

Breakfast fail again Blush apart from 1pt of fennel tea
Lunch though - I had some smoked salmon and Boursin, as the boys were having it on crackers (obviously I had no crackers!) but didn't eat enough, so around 2:30 I felt hungry again.
Boiled 2 eggs, then mashed them with mayo, grated cheddar cheese and garlic salt, and made iceberg lettuce wraps with it! 3 largeish iceberg lettuce leaves wrapped around a generous dollop of the egg mix - YUM!

Dinner will be roast beef and veg - cauliflower, green beans possibly a few carrot batons but not many.

Romeyroo · 27/01/2015 06:11

Hmm, I am trying to keep my coffee intake to two per day, I know when I have given it up completely before I have been exhausted but that was not doing this woe. I work FT and am a single parent, so no caffeine seems a bit impossible. However I clearly manage no sugar and the benefits are amazing, so who knows??

Romeyroo · 27/01/2015 06:15

No idea what I am eating yet today, I think it could be

B - plain soya yogurt, BPC
L - three hard boiled eggs, cucumber, spinach leaves, cheese cubes and a few olives
D- the rest of my cottage pie with roasted broccoli and courgette

Sorted Grin
