Hey
I'm starting again on 5th Jan, just about to go through recipes and meal plan as for me, when I fail to prepare I prepare to fail!

Glen I like the Idiot Proof Diet cookbook. It isn't quite the same as the Bootcamp rules but it has a lot of suitable recipes and some really nice rubs/marinades.

Mootime I started low carbing on Bootcamp Light as I was breastfeeding my 7-month-old at the time. I think it's important to take a supplement such as Pregnacare Breastfeeding if you go low carb while bf as you don't want to get depleted of essential nutrients. As you're dairy-free you'll need to emphasise calcium-rich vegetables, may I recommend kale crisps - toss curly kale in olive oil with chilli flakes or garlic and bake at 180C for about 15 minutes. They're more-ish and filling at the same time. My youngest was CMPA but he could tolerate very small amounts of dairy in my diet so you may find something like butter which only contains a small proportion of cows milk protein is actually okay.

The BC plan is my normal way of eating now. Even over Christmas I didn't stray that far from the path as it makes me feel rubbish. Even so, I managed to gain about 3lbs and sent my blood glucose a bit mental. I think it was just stress and getting a bit giddy withy the dark chocolate though. Got back properly on plan yesterday but I'm like you Stunt, the sugar monster is snapping at my heels! Good luck with the OGTT. I wasn't doing low carb when I had mine and yet that slug of sugar on an empty stomach made me feel quite odd for half a day so plan to chill out a bit.Smile

miffy49 · 04/01/2015 16:38

Yes, I like the IPD book too. Its not full of faux puds with loads of sweeteners like a lot of the LC books. IPD isn't that different. Biggest difference for me was that they don't allow yoghurt until P2. I also have the Low Carb Gourmet and got one or two good ideas from that.

Apophenia · 04/01/2015 18:04

I've started. I just had a duck breast with buttered cabbage, leek, and spinach. I'm stuffed and it was SO good. GrinGrinGrin

glenthebattleostrich · 04/01/2015 18:05

Thanks I'll take a look. I do have some recipies from the thread but I like a nice cookbook Grin

SunshineAndShadows · 04/01/2015 19:24

Ugh! I think low carb flu may have hit. Feeling a bit headaches and glum. Never done this before so not sure what to expect Sad

projectbabyweight · 04/01/2015 20:08

I'm starting tomorrow too. We're off to Center Parcs on the 23rd Jan so I need to put in a last-minute effort before I brave the pool.

Durham, I remember you from last year! Am I right in thinking you haven't got all that much to lose? I've got 7lbs left of my "babyweight" (last baby is over 2 now!) but I'm short and narrow boned so it'll make a big difference.

Incidentally, I lost about 9lbs in the last few months on low-carb paleo, which I believe is similar to the ubercamp, with no dairy. Pretty hard to stick to though.

Best of luck everyone!

DurhamDurham · 04/01/2015 20:30

Hi yes, I remember you too, hope you are well Smile I've got about half a stone to lose. I loved low carbing, I felt great so I'm a t a loss as to understand how it all got away from me. I'm looking forward to it, the fridge is brimming with meat, eggs and veg.

bettybigballs · 04/01/2015 20:30

Just checking in to say hello. I'm also starting tomorrow, have had a carb frenzy of a christmas and looking forward to getting back on the wagon, all my clothes are a bit to tight. Hoping to be well in the swing of things by the time bootcamp starts.
My shop arrived today and it's filled with friendly food. Just thinking what to do with a kilo of mince. Maybe a vat of bolognaise to freeze. Any other inspirational ideas?

DurhamDurham · 04/01/2015 20:32

When we have a lotJ of mince I make a chilli but without the kidney beans, I make it very spicy. Once it's cooked on the hob I sprinkle on a load of mature cheddar on top and stick it in the oven for 20 mins, it's very filling and satisfying.

Apophenia · 04/01/2015 21:11

Betty- it's nice fried with some spices and then wrapped in lettuce to make 'tacos' Smile

projectbabyweight · 05/01/2015 05:00

Got up early as I'm dehydrated from finishing the xmas booze. There are SO MANY ways I feel better when I'm off the booze, low carbing, and keeping mainly paleo.

Starting right now Smile

Macloveswill · 05/01/2015 05:20

Hi I'm very new to this low carb lark, but have been trying it out since the 1st Jan. So far, so good, but I have a lot to lose.

Never heard of carb flu until reading this, but suffering with headaches and insomnia, so feel like it might be that?

Any advice very welcomeSmile

ChesterDrawers · 05/01/2015 08:04

I was back on it as of 2nd Jan. did try for the first but a raging hangover got the better of me and I fell on top of a pizza with my mouth open Hmm

As of this morning I am 4lb up on my end of last BC weight so pleased with that in the grand scheme of things. Food is planned for the week, although I am off to holiday on Friday for a week so that might scupper me a little.

Gluten free meal ordered for the plane, pork scratchings packed and the general plan is, low carb in the day with lots of water and then have a nice meal in the evening with wine or gin and soda. Damage limitation basically - not going to ruin my holiday stressing over it, but don't want to come back a stone heavier (it has been done before!)

MrsDesperado · 05/01/2015 08:09

I'm starting today too.

Those of you who've written out a menu plan, would you mind sharing? Looking for some inspiration.

bettybigballs · 05/01/2015 08:22

First day for me, lunchbox packed for work. Bulletproof coffee for breakfast, tuna mayo wrapped in lettuce for lunch and a chilli for dinner (thanks for the idea!).

VikingLady · 05/01/2015 08:23

Mince is brilliant for lc! You can make batches of bolognese, chili, savoury mince (with good beef stock), a range of curries, and freeze them in individual portions. My biggest problem with lc is meal planning when I'm tired orDH wants pizza, so it makes that a lot easier to deal with!

Am not doing BC this time (I usually lurk) as am pg but will be lurking again and reducing carbs very heavily, as my blood sugar got totally out of control over Christmas. MW is fine with this!

ChesterDrawers · 05/01/2015 08:54

Viking this is my menu plan. Not very inspired and a lot of doubling up as DH is away this week so lots of leftovers. Also trying to use the contents of the fridge before we go away.

L: tuna pesto mayo and egg salad
D: chicken curry and cauli rice

Sunday
L: broccoli and stilton soup
D: swede corned beef hash

Monday
B: eggs, butter
L: avocado, parma ham, olive oil

FelixFelix · 05/01/2015 09:09

My menu for this week (in no particular order as I just pick what I fancy on the day/what needs using)

Breakfast:
Natural yoghurt with cinnamon
Smoked salmon or smoked mackerel with avocado

Lunch:
Broccoli soup
Creamy red pepper soup
Salad with cheese, olives, meat

Dinner:
Fish 'tacos' wrapped in baby gem leaves with avocados and roasted peppers
Thai chicken curry with cauliflower rice
Some sort of marinated chicken thighs with roasted veg
Salmon with celeriac mash and fried mushrooms
Salmon with stir fried veg
Sausage (I have some very meaty ones which are low in carbs from the farm shop) with garlic roasted cabbage

Also going to try and cut down the amount of coffee I drink because I have far too much caffeine. Maybe one in the morning then I'll be drinking peppermint tea instead.

PeonyStick · 05/01/2015 09:15

What ..... No chesterschicken ? We still eat that in this house in your honour Grin

PeonyStick · 05/01/2015 09:16

Sorry xpost
That was a comment for ChesterDraws

FelixFelix · 05/01/2015 09:17

Haha I thought so! Now wondering what chesterschicken is Grin

ChesterDrawers · 05/01/2015 09:22

Ha ha Peony, none for me anymore I'm afraid as I've discovered dairy does not aid weightloss for me. Maintenance though, if I ever get there Grin Glad you are still reaping the benefits of my random recipes thought.

Felix, nothing fancy just chicken nuggets coated in parmesan, egg and spices. Yummy but v simple.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 05/01/2015 09:40

Starting here too, can't wait for another week!

ElectraCute · 05/01/2015 09:44

I'm starting today. Did Bootcamp a couple of years ago and loved the results - since then have fallen off the wagon completely, and a post-Christmas weigh-in has seen me back to the weight I was before I started Sad

I'm 42 this year and just cannot continue eating the way I do. I worry about diabetes - my blood sugars are all over the place - and I know that carb-heavy eating makes me feel like shite. So I really have to change things for good now. Luckily DP is pretty much on board (well, he's happy to forgo potatoes and pasta at least!) and we are both doing dry January so the no-booze but won't be too tough, hopefully!
