Pisses Sad

NaturalElfYayChristmas · 03/12/2014 19:19

Just tried celeriac chips for the first time, yum. Wasn't expecting to like them much as I'm not a huge celery fan but they make a nice treat.
I'm off to a a 'bring a dish or two' party at the weekend. Thought I'd do Parma ham wrapped asparagus and a low carb cheesecake. Anyone made the cheesecakes before? Unless you can think of a better/easy to transport dish?

MoJangled · 03/12/2014 19:29

Appetite returning and 1lb on already Sad I knew it was too good to be true.

Elf I'd be inclined to bring something I'd be certain to be able to fill up on, in the face of the likely sea of carbs you'll face. Instead of small amounts of expensive things like asparagus/parma (sounds delish) I'd bring loads of roasted cocktail sausages and a cheeseboard with celery sticks.

NaturalElfYayChristmas · 03/12/2014 19:41

DM is bringing a cheeseboard, might bring some cucumber as crackers. I don't want anyone to notice that I'm eating differently (too much pressure)
Oh yes, that reminds me- I had my first person notice weight loss today Smile Smile it's a real boost!!!, even though I don't feel drastically different yet.

prettybird · 03/12/2014 21:26

If you're prepared to have a small amount of Stevia/artificial sweetener, Nigella's Cloud Cake (I think) is good: cocoa, eggs and almonds, substituting the sweetener for the sugar (I used Fruisana/Fructose sugar as I had it, even though I know it's a no-no, but I cut the amount in half). Then fill the "caved in" cake with whipped cream.

imustbepatient · 03/12/2014 22:06

I just have to post about an amazing moment! This evening, I - wait for it - didn't feel hungry for dinner! After an hour or so past the point when I would usually be starving, I felt a little peckish and had some prawns and celery dipped in Mayo.

Utterly unheard of for me. I'd know if I'd been body snatched, wouldn't I?...

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 03/12/2014 22:20

Grin you should still eat something though because it will throw you tomo if you are not care Not eating in the evening has cause wagon falling, no make that face planting and full speed, in the past for me. So just be careful.
Grin Nice feeling not to be controlled by food though imust

Food not so good, sleep has been ok the last two nights but this means sleep deficit is catching up with me Hmm fingers crossed for a better day tomo.

ChesterDrawers · 04/12/2014 06:20

Agree with Bitchy re not eating and wagon crashing.

With that in mind I have a question. If say, someone paid a visit to Carbytwat Land, how soon would that misdemeanour take to show on the scales/ketostix? So if by the next morning they had a minimal gain and ketostix were still showing ketosis could they have escaped without too much trouble or does it take longer to take effect? Just, errr, asking for a friend, like Hmm

StuntNun · 04/12/2014 07:02

Chester once you are fully fat-adapted you may find that you can have the occasional excursion without much effect on the scales, although your rate of weight loss will be affected so it's better to wait until maintenance before you introduce regular cheat meals. When I reached maintenance I did notice that my cheats were very different so that I would regard having a roast potato with my dinner as a cheat rather than falling face first into a pile of carbs.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 04/12/2014 08:17

I can find that a cheat can take a week before it fully shows on the scales sometimes but it depends on the cheat, and how quickly I get back on the wagon.

Drink lots of water, be strict for a few days and you can minimise it. But everyone is different so you may well be lucky and the lag for full effect not be so great.

GuyMartinsSideburns · 04/12/2014 10:34

Hi all, haven't been on here much but Im sticking around the 124lb mark even though Im not being strict so Im happy enough here for now. Im taking it easy through dec but I don't really enjoy a lot of carby foods anyway - I get bloating and discomfort so avoiding them is a bit easier. Im still running when I can and walking miles everyday.

Hope youre all having a good December, I'll be up for a bootcamp afterwards! Grin

CharlieSierra · 04/12/2014 11:28

Bit worried to read a cheat can take a week to show up Shock. Went somewhere else for dinner last night, not the menu I posted. I asked for some adaptions and had a ham hock terrine with celeriac remoulade followed by roast partridge with some nice vegetables, was fine and delicious but did have 2 glasses of red and a tiny petit four with my coffee (the size of a sugar cube). Hoping I get away with what is literally my only cheat in the whole bc.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 04/12/2014 11:39

Like i said it depends on the cheat. If i fall off the wagon it is most likely to be a pure sugar fall. They can be a bit of an issue plus rather huge in size Blush thus it is probably mostly water accumulation and a complete fuck up of the hormone balance. I reckon small cheats will have shown up before then. I do fall off the wagon in style, with a complete high speed face plant Blush

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 04/12/2014 11:41

Plus i was bed bound for pretty much a year so no chance to work off the side effects. Exercise will help getting things back into control by working off the replenished stores of sugary stuff. brain is mush this morning but I am sure you can figure out what i mean

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 04/12/2014 11:47

Just realised that as I am a weekly weigher (when i remember) it would take that long for me to see the side effects as I wouldn't weigh before that Blush

Blush Sorry!

BestIsWest · 04/12/2014 12:22

I can testify to the not eating thing having a knock on effect. Had a 36 hour fast at the end of last week due to illness and have been useless ever since. Under control now I think.

miffy49 · 04/12/2014 12:34

Its like Stunt says Charlie, You start to see a cheat differently. the whole scale of whats a cheat alters. My cheats have gone from 200gr+ of chocolate to a 25gr mini bar!

Sounds a nice meal. I would have thought that the main problem would be the alcohol rather than the tiny petits four. (Except that the sugar can too easily set of the cravings!) I was reading earlier in the week about alcohol and ketosis. Can't remember where but it was one of the respected low carb blokes. The point seemed to be that it basically presses the pause button on fat burning. It doesn't knock you out of ketosis like a normal carb but your body burns it in preference to any other fuel that might be around so while you are giving your body alcohol you wont see any fat loss.

I think its the more carby excursions into cheat land that will cause an actual gain and that will mostly be due to disruption in fluid balance so if you do fall off the wagon folks just climb back on and stay off the scales for a bit. Its Christmas and we are all human and not super-carbers! Stressing out about what you are eating is actually counter productive so just settle for doing your best at these dos and being sensible in between rather than progressing to sod-it mode!

aNoteToFollowSo · 04/12/2014 12:37

Hello all. I havent posted in a while as I have been making regular forays into twat land. But I have more or less held on to my losses and have kept coming back to low carb bootcamp. Where I very much hope to stay until the end of the BC.

When do we think January BC will begin? Not too early in Jan, I hope.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 04/12/2014 13:32

It has been around the 7th ish before in the past anote I guess we will have to see what BIWI thinks is best for the new year. I know that I will sign up and then vanish until the official start as to not be knocked out of kilter by enthusiastic newbies who are cupboard clearing. I find that lag between the announcement of new bootcamp and its actual start quite a difficult time.

I nearly fell off the wagon today, there has been a lunchtime wobble, but I am out of salt crystals and this is what has caused it so will resolve it when I hit the shop for a few bits during the school later.

CharlieSierra · 04/12/2014 14:32

I think that's spot on re the alcohol Miffy, I actually drink very little, last night was a very special occasion, but I have had the odd drink through bc and it hasn't knocked me out of ketosis. I think although I haven't cheated with any sugar whatsoever before I'm definitely not over it, that petits four was the nicest thing I've tasted for weeks! Was happy with one though, so maybe that is something.

Pisseslikeahorse · 04/12/2014 14:58

I'm having problems getting warm today, normally after training or being outside, white fingers and toes a bit painful Sad and to think I would have still been in shorts this time last year... go figure.

As a comment about saying "cheating", try to think of it differently more as an excursion.
Otherwise your making the action a big negative, and if its what you want and under control (like a meal, swishy christmas drink/s, even a mince pie) then enjoy it and don't beat yourself up.
So how about a bit more positivity with our own actions 'Excursions', especially with Christmans around the corner, it would do us all allot of good.

B. Bacon eggs coffee cream
L. Cauliflower Chilli mayo
D. Pork chop salad, pickled radishes

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 04/12/2014 15:07

Am i allowed to count my falls into bags of pure sugar jelly babies/chocolate buttons as a cheat Pisses? Blush They really are a face plant off the wagon. I am focusing on causes and things atm. sleep/stress/lack of will power/not eating when should/self sabotage/etc etc

miffy49 · 04/12/2014 15:32

The longer you LC Charlie the more satisfied you get with just a tiny bit of something. I'm much better able to think that one is enough now. It took awhile but its a good place to be. Smile

Good point Pisses. As well as less residual guilt if you give yourself permission to have something it seems to lose a little of its fascination. I like to think that I eat this way because its my choice. I have bugger all control over most stuff in my life but I can still choose what I eat. I tend to be more mindful and I think I get more enjoyment out of my food and any small treats now.

BIWI · 04/12/2014 16:07

We can keep going on our own Chat thread if you like/find it helpful?

I think we could probably all do with a bit of mutual support over the Christmas period!

Being realistic I'm not likely to start the next one until w/c 12 Jan at the earliest, as I'm away with work (Vietnam!) in the first week back.

Bitchy im not trying to police anyone, its just so self depreciating to call it cheating, and I'm sure it hits high as a trigger or cause, to feel that you've been outdone by yourself or doing others out of something.

Falling off the wagon seems to have much better connotations and I love the image of face plant Grin
