Beautiful photo!

Onwards and downwards, plodding on here, but 1 pound gone, huzzah, as was feeling I'd stalled.

miffy49 · 18/11/2014 12:25

Congratulations Ready lovely photo. Glad it was a good day.

Notso Well done on the inch loss. That matters more than the scales. Tell DH its gone off your back and not the front I find that pacifies 'em! Grin

Regarding pork scratchings, Our local Morrisons sells packs of raw pork rind. Its in a sheet so you need a sharp knife to score it (I have a craft knife I keep just for the purpose) and you can make your own. Shove it in the oven when you are using it for something else and then finish off under a hot grill.

rybka13 · 18/11/2014 14:57

ready congratulations!
Charlie haha sounds good but it can not be true, all members of my team gone since I left on maternity and replaced by top management approved people, looks like I will be docked as soon as i am back...micro-managing nightmare sounds actually cute comparing to our high level MsManagement, as they say the higher monkey climbs the better you can see its bottom

SayraT · 18/11/2014 17:46

ready I meant to say earlier. Fab photo....the weather was good, I love the mist/fog (whats the difference?!). When we drove up from Peebles at the weekend the Pentland hills looked amazing just looming out of the mist. I am guessing you got married locally?

best well done on the no weighing Grin I might hide my scales so that I am not tempted!!

Notsoskinnyminny · 18/11/2014 18:14

Beautiful photo ready btw I've always read your name as readyfornov Grin

I'm shattered my admin asst has been signed off for a third week resists urge to make a bitchy comment and I don't know whether I'm coming or going. The plus side is I've been mainlining hardboiled eggs because I haven't been able to have a lunch break and lurpak at my desk so I'm hoping the whooshfairy will reward me with a visit.

pootlebug · 18/11/2014 18:50

You might find if you can stay consistently in ketosis for a while your body adapts and the running speed will come back. I'm experimenting with that at the moment (am 7 weeks in, with a large carby blip on Sunday night) and am finding that the energy levels come back. Once your body is used to it it seems people add in v slow release carbs like Superstarch…..have a read of people like Peter Attia at eatingacademy.com, or 'The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance' by Volek and Phinney. My aim is to adapt to fat-burning so that I need way fewer carbs in next year's marathon and half ironman

BestIsWest · 18/11/2014 19:08

Another day on the fat here. No breakfast on BIWI's advice. Couldn't face a BPC but had coffee with cream and just ate some butter.

Lunch was 2 chicken thighs with skin in and a whole small avocado.

DP is making me gammon, eggs and mushrooms cooked in butter for dinner.

Met him for a creamy Americano after work too which has given me an idea for a version of BPC with cocoa powder and chili.

ClashCityRocker · 18/11/2014 19:56

Hello all!

Hope everyone's good.

I've decided not to weigh now until the bitter end. Just for a bit of practice at maintaining really. Going to try really hard these last couple of weeks. Would love to hit 145.

Tough day in store tomorrow - up at five, three hour journey, full day at work then three hour journey back home for 8.30 pm! Have made a pack up with ham, cheese, chicken and a bit of salad.

Roseformeplease · 18/11/2014 20:01

STS. Well, lost 1/4 of a lb, but that is probably just a lungful of air. Main a hotel for work and have just had yummy steak, veg and mushrooms. Glorious. Am now in bed very, very early with the TV remote.

However, not surprised as AF week this week. Still 7.5lbs down so very pleased.

yongnian · 18/11/2014 20:21

Hello all...late checking in this week as I can't seem to edit the spreadsheet again as the edit button seems to have disappeared from the version I'm looking at...plus I definitely lost 2lb last week, when I weighed on both weds and fri...then by Sun I apparently regained it! I did go to friends for a meal and there were some carb slip ups (but not that massive -3 pot wedges, a small piece of cake and 2 cheese thins)...but did drink less water..so I was thinking more fluid retention...? (hopeful!) anyway I'm now back down a 1lb and hovering towards a further lb loss so seem to be regaining my 2lb loss.
If you're still with so far, I best just claim a 1lb loss and could someone add it for me, please and thank you!!
Well done everyone and congrats ready stunning photo and you have done fantastically.
On the plus side, the friends I went to haven't seen me for ages and were v impressed to see how much I'd lost...I've shaved a further half inch off my waist...and I even braved the changing rooms in tk Maxx today - ok, the mirror toldme I have a loooong way to go (brutal lighting) but it wasn't as gloom-filled an experience as usual..at home I had a little try on of some old jeans I haven't fitted for a while and have regained one pair, plus really not far off another couple. I'm kinda 'in between' one size and another at the mo.
The changing room mirror actually renewed my determination and spurred me, whereas normally it would see me reaching for the crap food.
Onwards and downwards! I will lose that last 15lbs I will I will I will.

Wombat22 · 18/11/2014 20:50

congratulations ready and what a stunning photo Smile

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 18/11/2014 21:26

Thanks Pootlebug. Great minds thing alike Grin though- it was Peter Attia's blog that got me into this to start with! (I googled "why isn't intermittent fasting working?" in a contemplative moment and ended up there). And I've devoured both Volek and Phinneys. In addition this is my third bootcamp and I've spent months without a slip previously... and I still struggle with my running.

I've worked at my electrolyte intake and that's helped - I now use the zero rehydration tablets (no sugar) or the cheaper wiggle equivalent daily if in ketosis, with an extra one after a run. It seems to work better than bouillon for me and I already add as much salt to food as I find palatable.

My current plan is to be super strict for a few weeks and see how things go. Weirdly, I find cycling easier once fat adapted - fat adapting is obviously useful for endurance - so hopefully it should stand you in good stead for the marathon. Which one are you doing? I don't do more than half marathon distance but I do like doing stuff like this.

aNoteToFollowSo · 18/11/2014 21:29

Hello all, slinking onto the thread to record my weight a day late. I strayed deep into carb territory last week and so gave myself an extra day to lose some of the weight gained. Today I was only up half a pound on last week, and I count myself lucky.

Today has been a much better day eating wise, and I am hoping I am back on the straight and narrow.

Congrats ready. What a gorgeous pic.

pootlebug · 18/11/2014 21:58

SBBA - have you tried Superstarch? Peter Attia seems to think it acts so slowly as to not muck up your ketosis yet allows you to use more carbs. It's pricey but maybe worth a go for long hard training sessions / races? I plan to give it a go but want to work on being more fat-adapted first.

I'm doing Brighton marathon, then Staffordshire Ironman 70.3. That race of yours looks fun (in a purely theoretical way….I have absolutely no knowledge of how to paddle a kayak!). I've only ever done a half marathon / olympic tri before now, so I was motivated by the idea of doing long endurance with fewer carbs, as the one gel I had in my half marathon made me want to spew.

NaturalElfYayChristmas · 18/11/2014 23:24

I really really fancy homemade soup. Chunky, ministrone style soup. What can I make? (Just the name, I'll google receipe)

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 19/11/2014 06:33

I haven't pootlebug and it's probably worth giving it a try! Like you, I want to work on being more fat adapted first, so if you beat me to it I'd be keen to know how it goes.

Good luck with your races. I agree that gels are disgusting! It's been a few years since I did the helly hansen and when I did it the kayaks were inflatable with no paddles- you used your hands! No skill involved at all, just hope and perseverance. Much easier than an ironman I'm sure Wink

elf I'm sorry I'm rubbish at low carb soups. Maybe leave the pasta out of the minestrone and use swede instead of potato?

BIWI · 19/11/2014 07:27

Hmm. Not sure about minestrone, tbh - I suspect it's probably pretty carby.

I made a lovely leek soup recently - sliced leeks fried initially in lots of butter, with a touch of olive oil, along with some celery and, I think, some shallots (sorry, can't remember exactly!), and then home-made chicken stock. Pressure cooked for 5 mins, then blended.

Well after declaring on Saturday that I was back on the wagon, I fell off spectacularly, only clambering back on yesterday. I felt so dreadful by Monday evening though, that it has put me off cheating for evermore.

So five days off in total, and I am now scared that I will struggle to get back in the zone as this is always my problem when I have a break.

Yesterday:
B: Nothing, felt awful
L: Chicken cobb salad
D: 97% meat sausages x 3, swede mash with butter, leeks and bacon in butter, half a bottle of wine that needed using up Blush

Today:
B: Eggs, butter
L: broccoli and Stilton soup
D: Slow cooked braising steak in stock, leeks, mushrooms, with sour cream and cauli rice in butter

Not read the thread yet so I hope everyone is ok - will catch up later when I have chance.

non126 · 19/11/2014 10:09

Awww thats beautiful ready, enjoy your honeymoon!

I'm pretty much STS so I'm going strict bc too for the last few weeks - may do a bit of ubercamp too.

Flowers to all those who've been feeling rotten lately, hope you are all feeling better soon.

Have a great week everyone Smile

Liveinthepresent · 19/11/2014 12:53

Hi am just popping head up to ask if anyone can help me choose foods that are on message while I am recovering from a vomiting bug?
Struggling as all I want is stodge.
Sorry not weighed or read thread - for hopefully obvious reasons.

BeyondTheLimits · 19/11/2014 13:24

STS this week, happy with that as i was away on the weekend :)

prettybird · 19/11/2014 14:45

Liveinthepresent - what about some yoghurt with cream and cinnamon? Or mashed neeps? A low carb soup? (Diced neeps turnip, celeriac, leeks, carrot, sliced cabbage, chopped shallots fried in butter/coconut oil, in chicken or vegetable stock).

Pisseslikeahorse · 19/11/2014 16:43

Hi all,
Still ill, now its all in my sinuses and making my face twitch Sad

B. BPC
L. 3 HB eggs salad and cheese
D. Porkchop cauliflower

Tomorrow taking the new sneaks out for a spin, I'm so excited Grin
even if I have yuck streaming down my face

BestIsWest · 19/11/2014 17:56

Experimented this morning with various BPC recipes and chucked them all down the sink and decided it's not for me. So just had coffee with cream.

Met up for lunch with a group of women i used to work with. It was so lovely to see them. Meatballs for starters and Caesar salad so not much fat there but have had a further coffee with cream.

Then met DH from work and had yet another coffee. I feel I may have overdone it.

Making a Coconutty chicken curry for everyone else for tea so may have some of that if I feel hungry. They will have rice with it.

BestIsWest · 19/11/2014 17:57

Sorry you're still not well pisses I find if I have a snotty cold, dairy really slows down mu recovery.
