My last few days before I go on holiday, so I'm making them extra specially good.

Hope you all have a good week Flowers

Username are you actually in ketosis? If you're following the Bootcamp rules you probably won't be unless you're going out of your way to keep carbs very low. I find at 20g per day I'm not in ketosis but at 10g per day I am. One 'carby twat' moment will put you out of ketosis and it will take you a couple of days to get back into it. But as far as being fat-adapted goes then it would just temporarily refill your glycogen stores but you would still be fat-adapted so it might stall weight loss but won't mean you're back to square one. The exception is during the first two weeks when it is really important to stick to the rules so that the fat-adaption process can happen.

I'm waiting a day to put my weight on the spreadsheet as its all over the place. Presumably because I've been poorly for two days. It shot up yesterday but is down a bit today. BG is all over the place but that's to be expected too. it always goes up if I'm not well. I can only think that is a gluten thing as my stomach is settling but now joints are bad. I'm stuffed if I know where its come from.Confused

Rollergirl Does it list anything along with the actual scratchings that could constitute a coating? I've noticed that even the ones labelled gluten free have seasonings added. They often use a rice or wheat flour carrier to add things like yeast powder and other seasoning when they make them commercially. That could explain some carb. Don't forget, they are very light. There may not be 100gr in the packet!

Stuntnun I have been in ketosis since I started bootcamp, confirmed with ketostix. Prior to bc when I was eating primal, and therefore lowish carb, but including some fruit and starchy veg I wasn't. This is one of the reasons I won't cheat, it helps me stay honest with myself. I don't go out of my way to monitor carbs, I just stick to eating only bootcamp allowed foods.

poleallthewayHi all I started No carbs yesterday, today I haven't stopped eating Sad I feel like the meat just is not satisfying and all I can think about is cake and chocolate.

Firstly, this isn't a no carb diet, it's a LOW carb diet. You should be eating vegetables and salad as a source of carbs. You should also be eating a high fat diet - it's fat:protein:carbohydrates - and it's the fat with the protein that will keep you satisfied.

You can't have cake and chocolate! They are hugely carby, and it's these things that led to weight gain in the first place!

You will have cravings to start with. It's part of the withdrawal from carbs. You may also find that you start to feel unwell in the next couple of days - it's called carb flu. Make sure that you eat plenty of sodium, magnesium and potassium, which means salt (cook with it/add it to your food, or try drinking a hot drink made with boiling water and Oxo, Bovril or Marmite), salmon, spinach, avocado and full fat natural yoghurt.

Today I have had:
B - omelette, avocado and tomatoes
D - mixed grill with side salad - went out for dinner
Snacks -
2 peparami
A few olives
Some mozzarella

This sounds OK - but where is your lunch?! First rule of Bootcamp is that you have to eat three meals a day. This is important as it helps to keep your blood sugar levels stable, which means it will keep your hunger under control.

I still want something but I won't have anything I'm going to bed.

Going to bed is a good strategy! Were you hungry though? The rule is, if you're hungry then you must eat. This isn't a WOE (way of eating) that's about deprivation.

Is there anything I can make that resembles a chocolate dessert?

If you read the Bootcamp recipe thread here you will find various different chocolate dessert recipes. However - THESE ARE NOT FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF BOOTCAMP! The first two weeks of Bootcamp are to help break the hold that sugar and sweet stuff has over us.

I'm glad that you've joined us, but it's really important that you read Bootcamp rules. (thank you Bitchy for cutting and pasting those!)

Well I guess the meat and the peparami were fatty.

What meat did you have? If it was a grill, I'd be surprised if it was fatty enough!

Tomorrow I am planning on having:
B - omelette with bacon
L - pork loin, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, mozzarella
D - pork loin, cauliflower with cheddar, green beans, carrots

Not much fat going on here either. Fat is really important on this way of eating, so make sure you fry with it, add butter liberally to your veg and use an oily dressing on salads, along with mayonnaise (full fat!)

Green beans and carrots are a bit carby for the first two weeks of Bootcamp, but the rest of your veg is good

Snacks -

One of the great joys about low carbing, once you're properly into it, is that it acts to suppress your appetite, so you won't need to snack - in fact, it's not unusual to find that you've forgotten to eat! However, as I said in the last post - if you are hungry, then you must eat. Olives and cheese make very good low carb snacks.

Good luck! I know it's a bit daunting at first, as it runs counter to everything you've ever been told about dieting, but trust us all - it really does work!

Charlie, sorry you've been feeling low and ill. Flowers

I'm down another lb so that's 9 in total. Have had a very bad 10 days or so (not with diet, with life!) but I have not dived into the carbs to compensate. Have been really ill and having some tests to get to the bottom of it, and then went into work this morning after a week off sick and I was laid off.. Nothing to do with being ill, a valid business reason. If anyone deserved a Biscuit with her coffee this morning it was me!! But I left the office, came home and ate my low carb packed lunch while updating my CV. Sad

Hi to everyone who is still keeping on, hope everyone has a good week!

My sympathies Charlie and well done for sticking to the path. Flowers

I know how hard it is to keep on when you feel tired and sore. My consolation is that there is a lot you can legally snack on with this WOE during flares and I do think that it cuts the number of flares and shortens them. When I feel rough I eat when I want as long as its on the BC list. If I don't want stuff off there then I try to tell myself its not actual hunger. If its a real struggle I allow myself a short foray into BC light. Grin When you get out of the other side of the flare you will feel even better for knowing you were sensible and there will be far less damage to undo.Smile

It says in the description "crunchy seasoned british pork crackling". Then in the list of ingredients it says Pork Rind (36%). Sugar. Salt. Water. Cranberry Puree. Cranberry Juice. Dark Brown Sugar, and goes on to list all the ingredients for the dip. It isn't clear if the Sugar and Salt that is listed immediately after the Pork Rind is for the crackling or the dip. But it sounds like they could be used as seasoning for the crackling straws?

They are very light but the entire packet is listed as being 142g. I would imagine the pouch of the dip weighs a sigificant amount of that!

I had a lovely bacon, avocado and blue cheese salad today for lunch, smothered in mayonnaise. DH is off work today so I made it for him too. When I make salads I make them pretty big, think the amount you get as a main at a restaurant. DH said that it was loads and left quite a bit of it whereas I happily polished it off. It made me feel a bit piggy to be honest. But you can eat as much salad as you want, surely?

Hmmm, if the nutrition panel lists the rinds and the dip separately and its showing carbs for the rinds then they are adding something. Its also showing sugar and brown sugar in separate sections which makes you think that there could be sugar on the rinds and brown sugar in the dip. Theres sugar in the most unexpected places these days!

The pork straws are still showing as available with apple dip this year, and straws themselves appear to be pork rind, salt, olive oil....

Thank you for the information guys.

Pisseslikeahorse/Birdinacage/StuntNun It happened last week. Not planned. Had a bad day. Stuffed on rice and dessert (sugar). Got back to it the next day but was wondering if a seriously bad binge day knocks you out and you have to start over.

gointothewoods - sorry to hear that Sad

charlie - they are quite low if you only have one or two, but are you only going to stick at one or two?! Overall they are quite high per 100g

Charlie: The ones in store at my closest M&S are with the cranberry, pomegranate and clementine dip. The Nutrition information is the same as the picture you posted, in that it doesn't seperate out for the straws on their own and with the dip/sauce. But the ones with the new sauce are listed as 20.3g for 100g and 2.4 per straw with dip. So virtually double what they were listed as with before.

BIWI: I am hoping that the carbs listed are with the dip and if you were to have the straws on their own then it would be just like eating pork scratchings. But that's wishful thinking on my part!
