Eeeeek!

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here along with The Weight Tracker

Here's to another good week.

Four weeks left, including this one, so chance to lose up to half a stone if you're really focused!

I'm glad to see that we're all thinking about Christmas and how we're going to deal with it. My own personal problem is that I find it too easy to let things slide - well, I've already had that, so I may as well have this as well - and before I know it, I've scarfed chocolates and eaten a sandwich and start to eye up the pasta as well ...

Other people are much easier to deal with than yourself! Grin

Anyway, I have one social event this week to negotiate, but other than that all should be manageable.

Hope you all have a good and successful week Flowers

Rollergirl there is a theory that the medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) in coconut oil can't be stored by the body so they must be used right away giving you an instant energy boost, particularly if you have it in caffeinated coffee. A lot of people find it difficult to get enough fat in their diet, particularly when they're at maintenance weight, and a bulletproof coffee is almost entirely fat with very little protein or carbs. Some people have a BPC instead of breakfast, this is called bulletproof intermittent fasting and is a good alternative if you really only need two meals a day but can't quite make it through lunch a la 16:8 intermittent fasting. Finally some people can't have dairy but don't like black coffee so coconut oil makes a good alternative. Plus BPCs are actually quite nice!

Thanks for explaining StuntNun. So adding it to my tea would still be worth it then?

Report

I add it to my herbal tea and find it gives me a boost. Don't wash the cup and you get a wee bit of a boost in the next cup too! Grin

prettybird: Do you only add it to your first cup of the morning? Does it alter the taste of the tea?

Sorry to go on about it, but i have a couple more questions if people don't mind. Do you have to freeze the coconut oil to put in your tea/coffee? or can i just keep it in the fridge? Is BPC = coffee, coconut oil and cream? can you have it as well as breakfast? or for a mid afternoon snack (which is when i find myself hungry and craving biscuits)?

Rollergirl a teaspoon of coconut oil in rooibos tea is my favourite but apparently it works in green tea as well.

Koala I keep mine in the cupboard, it would go very hard in the fridge. My BPC recipe is 200 ml coffee, 15g butter, 15g coconut oil, 5-10ml double cream whizzed up with the stick blender or a milk frother but that doesn't emulsify as well. The cream isn't necessary but IMO improves the texture somewhat. CAUTION if you aren't used to BPCs then this will make you feel queasy as it is a lot of fat in one go. Start with 5g each of butter and coconut oil and work your way up.

all coconut crazies I keep mine in the cupboard as well StuntNun, never got organised enough to prepare proper bpc as most of things I do one handed with 4 mths old hanging off me, black coffe with spoon of oil is my basic version. I rub whatever left on spoon into my arms as wel haha!
Somebody before mentioned KTC brand of coconut oil. I guess it is something if you can not get anything else. The oil they sell is RBD type-refined, bleached and deodorised. Made of dried copra so in pure version would be unpalatable apparently. I think it is worth to spend little bit more for virgin oil. There is odourless version as well. People claim much better cosmetic and health results using virgin oil.
wellnessmama.com/5734/101-uses-for-coconut-oil/ just to cheer you up i tried number 17, DS wasn't impressed anyway then I couldn't wash it properly, it went off on his head and we had bad hair week (I was washing it every day and still could feel the smell, dysfunctional mother Wink)

I keep my coconut oil in the cupboard so it stays runny. Its the devil's own to get out of the jar if you fridge it! I only put some into ice cube trays in the fridge because I don't actually like it IN my coffee or my rooibos. I know some people just have it from the jar but I can't stomach a spoonful of the runny oil. I just have 1 or 2 cubes and wash then down with my first coffee of the day. Does the trick for me and I go through until about 2pm before I feel the need for food. I just use the trays as a measure really. 1 cube +1tbs. I do a batch and then store them in a jar.

Afternoon all

I’ve not gone anywhere, just ill and am having issues with reading and typing .
I Think it was a subconscious sign that my body was about to give up, I’ve got the full on thumping headache, streaming bogy, under a blanket with a bobble hat on Smile

I've been training allot and thats been my focus, makes it easier for me to cope with the WOE. I run 4 days a week, 3 days do pushups, (when broken swim) I also dabble in Judo and teach Aikido and have an affection for Jillian Michaels dvds. So getting in 4 months of training to be undone was a big shock to the system as I’ve actually got used to completing these things and it all came at the totally wrong time.

I do think it gets harder closer to goal as I’ve slowed down, the loss isn’t regular and the scales have become even more crazy. I very happy to be where I am but can’t stop that want for a 3lb week or a big whoosh, and frankly when I get to goal theres another minefield waiting called bastard maintenance.
But the foot is on the mend, I have a recovery programme and my heads in a better place. Again thank you all for your comments, if anything it was probably my ego screaming out for a bit of attention.

SarahB - It took me ages to get my running sorted, it could be that you’ve changed physically and need to slowdown a bit to get used to your new body shape and focus on your running action, cadence, etc before you get back up to pace (if that makes sense). Also have a look at www.runketo.com

I really do need to sit down and read Phinney and Volek book, keep on coming across references to it. Thanks miffy will give me something to troll over in my sic pit

Aww Pisses poor poorly boy! Brew Stick with the WOE and you'll recover much faster.

I'd be interested in an opinion on the book. I do mostly weights with some yoga mixed in. Cardio is out for me with my health problems so I've never bothered to buy it.

I did try upping my fat and lowering my protein to try and coax the Whoosh Fairy back but it really hit my lifting. I was struggling to maintain my reps. After a trawl around various sites I don't think my protein intake is outrageous so I just went back to my normal level but with the extra fat. No difference in weight but I'm back to my normal number of reps.

Get well soon pisses ease yourself back into your exercise routine slowly when your foot allows otherwise you could end up making the first injury worse, something I learnt the hard way when I got a shoulder injury when I was into bodybuilding a drunken dare turned into a short obsession and even now years later I don't have as much flexibility in that shoulder.

Tesco have got groovy coconut oil on offer for £4.50 instead of £6. I prefer a bpc to coffee with cream as its not too sweet. For anyone craving chocolate I buy the mosher 85% stuff from aldi. Its 5 small bars and each one has 5g of carbs. I take 1 to work with a tub with 30g of mixed nuts for when I need something and make them last all week but as you only need the smallest piece I've been nibbling on the same bar for nearly 2 wks and there's still 1/3 left and I've hardly had any nuts but I think knowing they're there stops me falling face first into the crap that's always in the staffroom.

MrsK I'm full after a bpc but this week I've been organised up when the alarm goes off and had a couple of buttery poached eggs as well.

BC tip of the day - if anyone else is fed up burning their fingers trying to shell an egg for egg in a cup and doesn't have a poacher line a ramekin with a 12" square of clingfilm, add a knob of butter and crack an egg on top, grab the 4 corners of the clingform and twist and tie in a knot and drop into boiling water, 3 mins later perfect poached egg and no pan to wash but watch out for the steam when you open the clingfilm - simples Grin

Hope you're feeling better soon pisses. Glad your head is in a better place. I keep telling myself 'get your head right and your body will eventually follow.

Haven't done much exercise at the minute - mega overtime at work, plus studying for some professional exams and a load of family shite has put it firmly on the back burner.

In a way, it's been a good thing. Normally when I try a new woe, I instigate a new exercise regime too. With the benefit of hind sight, it's too much too soon and I fall in to the exercise - I've earned this treat - eat treat that far outweighs the exercise done trap.

Things should quieter down at the end of January, so will start introducing some structured exercise then - feel hopeful that by then this woe will be second nature!

I must live in a cold house if you consider 18c cool , as I keep my coconut oil in the cupboard and it's very solid (only time it went semi liquid was last summer when the temperature inside went over 25C Grin).

BTW - I was mistaken on the price: I bought a new jar today at the local shop - it was £2.49.

Report
prettybird · 13/11/2014 20:59

Rollergirl - I have it in a mid-morning cup of tea and the KTC brand I buy doesn't change the flavour of the tea. When you carve out the teaspoonful, you need to stir it well in the cup of hot tea - but it will quickly dissolve.

If I feel I've not had enough fat during the day, I might have another mug in the afternoon.

Also - the second cup after the "coconut oil" one will also have a film of oil in it if you don't wash it out inbetweentimes .

Pisses - sorry you're not feeling well. Sounds like you've been doing a lot maybe a bit too much

I too like do the Jillian Michaels' DVDs - am currently on Day 9 of Level 2 of the Shred (the level I hate the most) especially the Chair Squats with V Flies . I take weekends off, so it takes me 2 weeks to do each level. Once I've gone through all 3 levels, I'll start the Ripped DVD. I hate the burpees.

I really should start running again - many years ago I used to run 10k and 1/2Ms regularly but I just haven't been able to get back in to the groove.

hi all, i'm knackered (up almost all night with ds's) and i need a treat tonight. i can't face cooking and want a takeaway/something easy. Any recommendations on what's the best takeaway to have? or an easy but nice dinner to cook? I've got celeriac and swede and cauli in but i can't be arsed to prep them. No eggs tho, altho i could pop to the shop i suppose. i just want a stodgy stew and creamy mash to be brought to my door.
