Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Where the End is Almost in Sight!

Morning all!

Hope that you had a good week and that the scales are kind to you today.

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and/or on the Weight Tracker

So we have four more weeks left. A focused effort could see another four or even eight pounds disappear. Which would be 8 or 16 packs of lard!

Just to keep you focused on that, here's a picture of just one measly pound of fat. Imagine losing four of these - or how much eight of them might be Grin

Thanks Roaring. Honestly if one year ago someone had told me, "follow Bootcamp and in a year your BMI will be 21.0" I would have taken that deal like a shot. But obviously at the time it took a lot of faith, a certain amount of judicious application of BIWI's big stick, and some nailbiting when the scales didn't go the way I wanted them to. It really is only with hindsight that I can see just how well this WOE worked.

Birdinacage · 16/06/2014 10:39

Good morning everyone, congrats for the losses, Thanks for those who have sts or gained.

The scales have started moving again for me and I've had a visit from the woosh fairy this week so very pleased with a 4lb loss ShockGrin. I changed a few things in my diet this last week which seems to have paid off. I started drinking BPC in the morning with 1tsp butter and 2tsp coconut oil, cut out the fruit tea I had been drinking and also reduced my protein portions down a bit so I'm not sure if it was one thing or a combination of all of them that helped really.

GuyMartinsSideburns · 16/06/2014 10:42

Jimmy thanks again! Don't know what Im doing wrong Blush

trashcanjunkie · 16/06/2014 11:31

I couldn't weigh this morning, as I have a student staying, and it didn't seem right to stroll through the flat naked (I keep my scales in the kitchen cos that's the best floor). Tomorrow he will be gone by eight o clock and I can run through then and whip me keks off. I'm hoping to weigh in around 104 kilos, and that'll be my lowest weight since I started in January.

I have had ridiculous cravings for fags lately. Bleaurgh. I'm an ex smoker, and really hate the smell etc, but for some fucking reason, there it is.... tabby longings. Eugh. Nasty.

lowcarbforthewin · 16/06/2014 12:06

Well done everyone!

I had my carer make me some amazing soup; cabbage, onion, wild garlic and some porcini mushroom and chilli powder dusted in it. It's lovely. Love spring greens.

Had a cheesy omelette for breakfast, my soup and some sausages for lunch. Having said 'I'm going to eat cheeeeese' I thought, 'are you mad? You just lost 2lb after weeks of stalling, this is working. Don't adjust it!' So other than my cheese in my omelette, I really don't have plans to reintroduce it.

CQ · 16/06/2014 12:11

About to try my first BPC. Will report back.

miffy49 · 16/06/2014 12:18

I wasn't going to weigh in this morning as Sunday is now my day for eating a few carbs. Anyway, force of habit found me on the scales! I expected a big watery gain but I was the same as yesterday. I'm well chuffed because my trend line has finally turned downwards and its showing a trend loss of 800gr. I'll take that and run thanks! Even better, my fasting BG has dropped over the week. Its lower than its been since March.

I don't think the True Weight app is available for Android. I think its only for I Phones. The one a lot of us on Android use is Libra. A trend line is invaluable when you low carb as you only have to look at Stunt's graph to see the big dipper effect that you get when you low carb. Until I found out about trend lines my mood would swing along the same lines as the graph! Grin

doineedhelp · 16/06/2014 12:27

Can you let me know the quantities of butter / coconut oil you used CQ as i'm attempting my first one tomorrow.....

Does anyone have any advice re: bowel movements. Sorry for the TMI (especially at lunch time) but i'm finding it increasingly difficult to go to the toilet, can anyone recommend anything to ease this Grin

My second week weigh in tomorrow so will post then although we out for cocktails on the weekend and had a few more than expected so not expecting a loss

Thanks
miffy49 · 16/06/2014 12:27

trashcanjunkie I haven't smoked in over 40 years and yet there are still the odd occasions when I could kill for a ciggy. Its totally crazy as I can't even cope with the smell anymore either. Somehow the brain seems to hold onto those last traces of the habit. Weird things brains!

StuntNun · 16/06/2014 12:52

DoIneedhelp I would start with 5g butter and 5g coconut oil in your BPC and work your way up to 15g of each. I find a dash of cream produces a superior texture, you only need about 10ml. With regard to constipation it seems to be quite common on this WOE in the first few weeks. I'm sure other people will have tips.

Pisseslikeahorse · 16/06/2014 13:01

hello everyone

The camping went well not admitting to running out of food.
Roaring - Thanks for the tip , the frozen meal was great and we also did some bacon that defrosted perfectly for day 2 breakfast. but I forgot my yogurt, mayo, cream and cream of coconut (so no BPC). My saviour was that I took lots of butter, mushrooms and water, in various bottles so kept myself toped up between cups of black tea.

Next time I will take at least one backup meal (tin tuna & avocado) and bring more veg to fry.

I found that if I was cooking for the family the massive carb / eggy bread intake didn’t bothered me, and actually sitting with everyone in the evening and not boozing was lots of fun.

Today I will mostly be being lighter by … 4.5lb Grin

I think I would be a fool to do anything else apart from stay on boot camp and keep on keeping on

doineedhelp · 16/06/2014 13:28

thanks stuntnun

Suzymoo09 · 16/06/2014 14:06

Thanks Stuntnun for the inspiring graph and BIWI for the graphic pic of what a pound of fat looks like!

I am still losing slowly - have to be under 9 stone to be within healthy range for my titchy height so still have 8 pounds to go.

As far as cholestereol levels - yes Stuntnun it's familial - I have decided to stick with low-carb most definitely as it WORKS but change my proportions (so up the low-carb veg and not go so mad on fats as Laura Dolson recommends) but it's very important I still lose weight so will have to experiment a bit with this WOE and see what works. I am sad not to do bootcamp proper any more but it will be sort of bootcamp lite and I will still read posts and post weight. It has helped me so much despite a five week plateau last bc and also and during the totm my weight ups a couple of pounds - so really recommend those struggling to keep on.

Suzymoo09 · 16/06/2014 14:10

Stuntnun PS. By the way doc didn't do that test so I will ask for that next time - thanks for the support

trashcanjunkie · 16/06/2014 14:15

Yippee pisses welcome back Grin

miffy groan....

doineed my best tip for pooing is to up your water by at least a litre. It really really works. I had four days without going at the start, and then actually tore my bum a bit. It was terrible, dp and I were at a shopping outlet miles from home, and no bloody toilets. Suddenly from nowhere the urge came upon me, and I was like 'We're leaving. NOW' When we got back to the car, he was nearly dying laughing at me - he said I'd gone grey. Cue a very uncomfortable dash home, and me then legging it to the bog, to deliver what can only be described as a bowling ball. Oh the fucking agony, but then subsequent pleasure. After that I became fanatical about drinking enough.

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 16/06/2014 14:31

Hi again everyone! Some great losses.

DoINeedHelp my guts settled down after a few weeks on BC. Plenty of fat, water and salt helps!

Stunt your graphs are great! The comment about it only being with hindsight that you can see how well it worked is really useful. A 20:20 retrospectoscope into what it feels like when your stalling. I'd already cut out dairy which is really contributing to the feeling of deprivation, so yes, I'll enjoy my week of BCL Grin!

Ewan that's certainly food for thought... (sorry awful pun). I might give that a go soon but I'm not quite ready to yet, IYSWIM. Too committed to BC!

BIWI, thanks, I'll start listing them this week will be rubbish though as doing BCL all week, in all likelihood with a bit too much gusto

JimmyCorkhill · 16/06/2014 14:31

Guy when I enter my weight on the spreadsheet I then click on any empty white box nearby. If I don't do that my weight disappears. Not very technical but it's how I do it!

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 16/06/2014 14:36

My weight graph so far: (makes me happy)

spamm · 16/06/2014 14:40

Hello all - start of another great week.

Well done on some fantastic losses - Pisses, I am impressed, that is fantastic. Nice to see you back here!

Stuntnun - have started my own graph on true weight now - thank you.

Lowcarbforthewin - a great result, well done.

*Trash - stay away from the cigarettes, you know they will actually taste terrible and give you that hangover feeling.

Roaring (and everybody) - thank you for the kind words and thoughts. We are doing well.

GuyMartin - well done - you must be very close to your goal?

And all the other losers, STSamers or even mini-gainers - no giving up!

I have lost 1.5lbs this week, so down to my lowest in about 5 years I reckon, at least, which is great. Can somebody please post it to the spreadsheet for me - 202lbs?

Am aiming to get below 200lbs this week - that will be a great milestone for me! I am waiting for dh to say something - nothing so far. By the way, I do not mean he is not encouraging and supporting, because he is, but I think I have done this so often in recent years that he does not know whether I will stick to it. One day he will say: you've got your slim face back, and I will grin like an idiot!

Have a great day - today is going to be in the 90s here, very hot and humid. Love air conditioning!

antimatter · 16/06/2014 14:41

JimmyCorkhill - enter your weight and press RETURN

StuntNun · 16/06/2014 14:42

Suzymoo looking at your lipid profile results one thing I would say is that they don't ring immediate panicky alarm bells. If you have a bit of weight to lose then I think you could absolutely stick to LCHF for a few months and then transition on to a different way of eating for maintenance. There are lots of different plans out there and some research will likely find you one that sounds preferable. There are loads of options, e.g. continue LCHF but add in one or more higher carb-low fat day a week. Something like the Zone (30% protein, 40% carbs, 30% fat) might appeal. Then you get the cycling methods that bodybuilders tend to prefer, and let me tell you they know a thing or two about losing fat, where your proportions vary over time. At the end of the day you don't need your doctor's approval over your diet, you don't even need to tell them how you eat. But you do need to find a way of eating healthily for you. Research, research, research, there are loads of people in your boat so find the ones that have done the work for you.

spamm · 16/06/2014 14:48

Antimatter - I have been reading that link you posted about dealing with grief. Thank you, it is very deep and thought provoking. Dh says he said goodbye to his Sister 7 years ago when she was severely ill, and the last 7 years have been a bonus due to the transplant she was given (do not want to give too much detail - as I am probably already very identifiable). In some ways it has made it more difficult because it has been a bit like grieving twice. But the fact that she had 7 years to meet her grandchildren and visit us in the US, etc... has been fantastic.

doineedhelp · 16/06/2014 14:51

thank you trashcan that did actually make me titter out loud in the office!

I have had the same experience, it felt like giving birth again, it was horrendous, hence the post asking if there is any way to help things pass more smoothly phew, i was sweating and swearing it was that painful

I'm drinking at least 3l water everyday so not sure how much more i can fit in but i will try, i might have a look in Boots later for anything else that can help as i'm actually afraid to try and go again Shock

Pisseslikeahorse · 16/06/2014 14:51

Spamm - spreadsheet done Smile

Best1sWest · 16/06/2014 15:05

Hello all, just marking my place really as I'm not weighing properly until tomorrow but the scales looked promising this morning. Congratulations to everyone who has survived thus far.
spamm sorry to hear your sad news.

I can't believe we're on week 7 already.

Does anyone know anything about hyperparathyroid and carbs?
