Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Where the End is Almost in Sight!

Morning all!

Hope that you had a good week and that the scales are kind to you today.

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and/or on the Weight Tracker

So we have four more weeks left. A focused effort could see another four or even eight pounds disappear. Which would be 8 or 16 packs of lard!

Just to keep you focused on that, here's a picture of just one measly pound of fat. Imagine losing four of these - or how much eight of them might be Grin

What a lot of typos in my post! Thanks Miffy. I'm not very good with lamb!

sarah gigot is a cut of meat from the leg of lamb, if you imagine a leg sliced with the bone still in. Well done to your DH today Smile

Supermum - you really aren't eating enough! This WOE isn't about deprivation, honestly. You need to eat more calories to encourage your body to lose weight.

Hello all - good day today, if not great. I had the most gorgeous salad for lunch, but I suspect that I had too many carbs in that. But it was sooo good.

Supermum - listen to BIWI, she knows her stuff. Try some new things and see if you can be more tempted with variety. I cannot speak too highly about courgetti with mushrooms and cream, or pulled pork in lettuce wraps, as examples.

It was 97 degrees here today - very warm, but we did get a cooling breeze this evening which has helped cool things down a little. Still steamy though. We had to go to rugby, so I could not slink off to the pool, but that is my plan tomorrow!

I am getting ready to send DS off to cub scout camp for 6 nights on Sunday and I am trying not to worry too much - he is only 9 years old, but he is looking forward to it and he will be with 7 other boys from his troop, as well as 4 cub masters he knows quite well, so I am sure he is going to be fine. I am going to be the one worrying!

Good night - light dreams (not sweet, that would not be LC).

Hissy - I saw your post on the other thread re courgette ribbons.

I bought a julienne peeler, the good grips one, and I use that to make spaghetti-like juliennes. Then I heat olive oil and butter in a frying pan, fry mushrooms in garlic, add the courgetti for about 3-4 mins, and then a big splash of cream with salt and pepper. It come out so yummy - I could eat plates of that instead of pasta. It is a great side to any meat, fish I have. Love it with turkey sausages, or with a baked salmon fillet.

oolaroola - I remember feeling weak and I think in my case was lack of minerals, when you start drinking loads your body takes time to adjust (in my case 2 weeks) to double what I used to drink
I found taking rehydration over the counter meds helped (a small sachet of rehydration powder, I think I had them nearly every day in from day 11 till end of 4th week)
it also got rid of my headaches I was having whe my body was switching to ketosis
on couple of occasions I had stock cube in a mug Grin (in my case Knorr) to top up my salt intake, I also use salted butter for cooking

fitflopqueen - did you mean 1.2l of water or more?

I think I need to buy julienne peeler Smile

lowcarbforthewin · 18/06/2014 06:53

Have been on amazon to buy a julienne peeler too. Tried courgetti a year ago and liked it v much so will get good to have it again.

And I think a glass of coconut water might be better than a rehydration sachet of you are feeling weak and wobbly. To get some, stick a can of coconut milk in the fridge and it separates into cream and water. I only recommend that because rehydration sachets can have a lot of sugar in them.

Bacon and eggs for brekkie.

this coconut water you can buy from the chilling cabinet contains 5% sugar

Good advice, I love the idea of coconut water.
It is a bit of a shock to the system all the water!
I have a bit of a challenge next week. Am working at a festival for 10 days. We have catering but it's veggie. Any tips on maintaining the LC?
Am planning on taking some mayo, yogurt, cheese and deli meats.
Is it ok to switch between veggy days and meat days?
Can I eat pulses on veggy days?

You're not eating enough either! What kind of lunch is that?! And you need to drink more water - 2 litres a day is the minimum

oola make sure you're getting enough potassium from things like kale, salmon, pork, spinach, mushrooms and avocado. Potassium is bound to glycogen, the stuff that is exiting your body at a fast rate while your body adapts to LC. Supplies will rebuild, but in the meantime to avoid feeling tired and wobbly, keep your K levels up.

Had a nice night last night with my family, made them curry and fed mum and I cauli-rice and now they are going to try it. Mum sent dad into the kitchen to see how I made it Grin

Got friends coming over tonight as there is a festival thing on this evening. I live in the Scottish Borders and every year they have the common rides these were traditionally to check the border between Scotland and England. Now it is a sort of gala week type thing but the borders towns still do ride outs. Lots of my friends from work have come from abroad so thought they might like to see this. Picture included in case anyone wants to see what it is like.

There are food stalls so I am hoping I will get something LC or if that fails a burger and not have the roll.

Food for the rest of the day looks like this:

B: BPC
L: Tuna mayo, lettuce, cucumber, peppers, babybel
D: Something

Hi everyone, the chat whizzes so fast.

Those of you who make your own yogurt... Amazon finally delivered my muslin to strain it, and I made soya yogurt overnight last night. It is hard to thicken soya yogurt - but it's strained down to less than 400ml. Should that happen? It was on for ages. Really thick and delicious though.

I'm trying not to have a repeat of last Thursday's heat exhaustion - I love the sun, my body seems not keen lately.

DH has lost the 6lb he gained on holiday already - surely he's just dehydrated??!! I'm not weighing til at least Sunday (my weighing day). Going to make some more fat bombs today, they are getting my numbers to work out ok. Halloumi salad for lunch - yummy.

I've said it before but I'll say it again - please don't use dioralyte or similar products unless you have a diarrhoea and vomiting illness and you are unable to keep fluids down - it has sugar in, that's how it works, it's developed for patients who develop cholera to use the relationship between the absorption of glucose and sodium with water to get the water in before the bowel gets rid of it. If you feel "wobbly", have muscle cramps, etc, especially in this weather add lots of salt - I mean lots - make sure you're having plenty of green veg, and maybe consider supplementing magnesium (Tesco sell their own brand of single mineral quite cheaply). Don't forget to eat just because it's hot, and space your water consumption out so you aren't rushing a litre or two through in the space of an hour.

Feels like the natural choice I am making - carbs don't have hold on me.
I have so may around at work and at home - I have no urge to eat sweets or cakes!

Hello everybody from steaming hot Virginia - we are supposed to hit 99 today, with the heat index up around 105. That's 37 and 40 in real numbers. It makes it a little easier to drink that water. I am about 1l down and it is just 9.30ish.

doineedhelp - I wish it would curb my appetite too. But it does make me want salads rather than complicated dishes, so that helps.

I am loving my True weight graph - the downward trend continues! I am going to call my doctor today and get my next appointment. I hope my blood tests are better!

Keep on keeping on! Have a great day.

antimatter - I know, I just walked into the kitchen at the office and there is a big plate of yummy things, which smelled so good. In the past I would certainly have had at least 1 or 2 (or more), but instead I have had my yogurt and coconut, and my cheese stick, and I am happy. I hope that one day I can have an occasional treat like that, but right now I am happy.

Hello everyone, I have not been on this bootcamp yet as I had a brief flirtation with 5:2 (partly due to DH not being able to digest FAT ffs how annoying). I carried on losing weight, think it is a good plan but it left me with the most diabolical pmt. This is because I did not cut out sugar and bread, as I didn't have to iyswim. I went back to bootcamp rules about two weeks ago and feel immeasurably better. It is just so much better for me to eat this way.

I am also back in my prepregnancy clothes, and for anyone who remembers me from the bootcamp before, one of my boobs is indeed now smaller than my baby's head

so is the other one, just to be clear!

has anyone done low carbing and intermittent fasting?

Report
miffy49 · 18/06/2014 15:24

I tried it HumphreyCobbler. The basic 5:2 gave me a loss of around 3lbs over about 3mths but my blood glucose went up as did my cholesterol and blood pressure. I tried going back to low carb and doing 16:8 but didn't see any real improvement. Only got back to feeling really well after I went back to LCHF (basic Bootcamp really). I feel good now and the blood numbers are back in line but it seems to have naffed up the weight loss.

I still tend to just have some coffee rather than breakfast so that I make sure I'm going without food for at least 12hrs each day. I do my weights fasted and then have a protein rich lunch. I've read that fasting isn't always good for women and in particular pre-menopause women. It made me very anxious and jittery and not just on fast days. I remain a disciple of the low carb path!
