Week 9 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The End is Nigh!

BIWI · 10/03/2014 07:41

Morning all!

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And don't forget the Weight Tracker

As we get to the end of this Bootcamp, I'd like you all to think about how MNHQ can make our space even better for the next time around.

The original plan was to move to the Weight Tracker and drop the Spreadsheet, which would mean Willie wouldn't have to tend it all the time - but we seem to have kept it going for this Bootcamp. If we were to lose it next time, what do you think you would miss the most?

For me, I think definitely the information in the tabs needs to be transferred over somehow - but is there anything else you'd like to see?

Anyway, a busy week for me as I'm off to Lille Tuesday/Wednesday, up at 5.00 am tomorrow and not getting back home till around 10.00 pm on Wednesday. All I will see will the inside of a taxi, a French supermarket, an office block and another taxi - no time even to go out for dinner on Tuesday night!

And I have no idea what's going to happen on the food front as it's all out of my control But then, that's what this WOE is all about - making the best choices we can at the time.

So - good luck to you all, hope that the fine weather helps you have a great week Flowers

Oooh oooh oooh Im 152.8lb! Ok, so not much difference from the 153-155 Ive been bouncing around, but havent seen a '2' before!

LittleMissDisorganized · 12/03/2014 08:44

Surely une twatte des carbs, non?

CrabbySpringyBottom · 12/03/2014 09:08

Whoosh your name seems particularly pertinent after your gushing urination emergency... Grin

Pisci that's reassuring about the improved NHS dietary advice. We have Virgin contracted services in our area too.

Yay for Eva the activist! Flowers

Thanks for that MrsHP. I've been reading a fair bit about Low GI/GL in the last few days and I'm not sure what to do for the best tbh. The values of various foods are incredibly variable... wholegrain bread doesn't seem much lower than white bread in many tests, for instance, and things that I'd read in the past were low GI don't necessarily seem to be in the more recent data.

Fucking hell I don't know. Sad I feel that our diet has been very meat (especially processed meat) and dairy heavy lately and it just doesn't feel very healthy to be honest. I know that I can still eat low carb with less meat and dairy, but just veg on its own doesn't much appeal to me, and I have to be in the right mood for fish. I've realised how fussy I still am with food - I have to be in the mood for something or I just don't want to eat it.

Grin BIWI at twat des carbs!

LittleMissDisorganized · 12/03/2014 09:18

Sorry
Eva that's brilliant, very well done
Pisci that's really interesting, shows a bit of broadening, and how grey the whole area is (I too have the core belief about privatization but it's not black and white in the real world)
MrsHP that's really interesting to add to my arsenal of information for talking to my aunt about food

Bonne journée a toutes!

EvaTheOptimist · 12/03/2014 10:03

Excellent news Monkey, I love the "lowest weight yet seen" moments

BIWI it is such a nightmare feeding yourself while on work-trips. In the end you can't work if you're hungry. And I find all my usual "control" goes as well - if I had one biscuit from a meeting-room table, I'd just dive into the rest with abandon. I think you've done well given the options! Good luck with the rest of the trip.

Crabby ooh have I earned the badge of activist?! I'm usually so mild-mannered! Good luck with your menu choices - remember the humble egg (neither meat nor fish nor dairy) - mushroom omelette is a surprisingly satisfying dinner. Or fried egg with a ratatouille-style mix of veg.

Felix90 · 12/03/2014 11:43

Sorry don't mean to intrude, but will there be another boot camp once this one has ended? I am starting low carb today after finding loads of brilliant recipes on the recipe thread here and I'd love to join in the next one! Grin

MrsHerculePoirot · 12/03/2014 12:46

It might work for you crabby, I just don't know. I am pretty certain that looking at glycemic load is definitely better that just low GI. I am like Kefy though and find that as soon as I have carbs, I crave more, I don't stay full as long and then I eat far too much and so it all goes to pot - that probably says more about me though and my willpower than anything else!!!

I have a veg box delivered each week in order to make me vary my veg and I promise myself to use it up. That has been quite good for me. I also find when I smother fish in pesto, esp salmon, we all prefer it! I am not at all inventive with fish, and often don't 'fancy' it when thinking about dinner otherwise. What I find is that I look at my box and think what can I do with this veg and what meat will go with it rather than the other way around.

I don't know that our meals are very interesting mind, we tend to have meat grilled, cooked in oven or fried with two vegetables just boiled or steamed and covered in butter. I mix mayo with pesto for a sauce for chicken, mayo with horseradish for a sauce for beef and mayo with mint sauce as a sauce for lamb. Casseroles, omlettes and in the summer kebabs and home made burgers are our staples. I don't have much diary as I don't really like it that much!

MrsHerculePoirot · 12/03/2014 12:48

Felix you are not intruding - welcome! Jump in and join in these threads right away. BIWI usually starts an ongoing chat thread once the 10 weeks are up and we all just natter away until the next bootcamp starts. There will deffo be another one, I imagine in the build up to swimming costume season!!!

You must stay and chat to us as you get started... You'll be all keen and focused and help keep the rest of us on the straight a narrow!

Thumbwitch · 12/03/2014 12:53

Kefy (in particular) but also anyone else worrying about dairy and meat intake - I am just reading up on the value of a vitamin called K2. It's not the same as vitamin K1 (the one everyone might know about, that is in green leafy vegetables and helps with blood clotting, the one they can give injections of to newborn babies to help prevent haemorrhage) but it is extremely important in heart disease. Its job is to channel calcium in the body to the places it is required, and keep it away from places it shouldn't be, like creating atherosclerotic plaques in arteries, that can lead to heart disease. Vit K2 is found in meat, dairy, eggs etc. - have a read of this article about it if you want to know a bit more. Your docs might find it interesting too, it's quite new information from what I can see (as in just in the last few years, not the last few weeks Wink )

BIWI - boo to Francocarbing, but it's not for long and maybe it will just be enough to replenish your glycogen stores?

Eva - bloody well done on saving your field! Yay!

A better day today - although I did have a glass or two of alcohol-free fizz, spritzered with carbonated spring water.
Lunch was sausage and cheese;
Dinner was salmon fillet with coriander, parmesan and a touch of lemon juice (to bind it) crust, with swede-salad, broccoli and carrots.
I shared a lemon yoghurt with DS2 - it's about the only way to get him to eat it these days :( - he started out so well with eating everything but recently has started to refuse things, which is making me a little worried, although I'm doing my utmost not to convey that to him.

Felix90 · 12/03/2014 12:57

Hello! Thank you for the warm welcome. I think it will be useful for me to post on here as I'm getting started as I keep trying to discuss low carb related stuff with my DP and he's less than interested Grin I've had scrambled eggs for my breakfast and not sure on lunch. Maybe some salad bits with avocado and ham. Got a massive shop delivered last night and done a meal plan for the week so I'm raring to go. I have around 5 stones to lose after pregnancy Blush hoping I can lose a bit before summer!

MrsHerculePoirot · 12/03/2014 13:06

Sounds like a good start Felix!

LittleMissDisorganized · 12/03/2014 14:06

I have that sort of weight to lose Felix although 3 stone is my goal this year, and 17.5lb down. This really works for me - my DH is a bit more interested in me wittering than yours sounds, but no more interesting in participating!

I have had signs of positivity and progress today - a belt I bought a few months ago is too big, and from where it's very worn, to the smallest hole that is now too big, is a wonderful visual of what's changed (I am measuring, but sometimes seeing something rather than the numbers helps). I also realised today that a couple of the tops I've been wearing, including my lovely warm cardigan, look terrible!! Not just snuggly and comfy but just far too big! I am going to start a charity shop bag - I'm determined that I don't need these things any more.

Wittering endlessly as usual. Going to have a further try at cooking fennel tonight - it was... ok last time, I am trying to embrace new things :)

WhooshFuckerFairy · 12/03/2014 14:55

Survived conference catering ( I think !) there were mini sausages in an onion jam ( scraped that off ) and individual Caesar salad pot with a quails egg ! Very odd mixture - but filled me up .
Conference is dreary and boring - hope None of you organised it must think before posting such things happy to be in London again though .... Loved my short time living here when I was a youngster !

HeirToTheIronThrone · 12/03/2014 15:24

Je suis aussi une twatte des carbs. J'ai honte. (I knew my French degree would come in handy one day Grin)

Masses of uncontrollable biscuit eating the past couple of days, and today had half a piece of toast with my greasy spoon fry up and some pretty carb-tastic veg soup for lunch (all there was in the corner shop). AND too lazy to Shred for past two days. AND a lovely friend is coming for supper tonight (roast chicken, celeriac dolphin pose and broccoli so that at least is fine) and has offered to bring the pudding. Gah.

Someone come and kick my dans les fesses :(

WhooshFuckerFairy · 12/03/2014 15:32

Lmd maybe there us mileage in a LC bootcamp clothes swapping .... Perhaps clothes too big for one May now be perfect for another .... Just a thought ... wittering on train

BIWI · 12/03/2014 15:46

Zut alors. J'aime beaucoup des chocolate biscuits que they have provided dans cette facility [rougir]

Demain est un autre jour, comme quelqu'un once said

Mais peut-etre avec un petit verre du vin? Tres petit, naturellement...

FelixFelix · 12/03/2014 16:09

LMD you've done fab so far! I think I'll set my initial goal to get down to 12 and a half stones, as this is where I got to before pregnancy and I have 3 massive vacuum packed bags of lovely size 14 dresses that I'm currently too huge for. I'll be so happy when I can get them out again! So 2st 9lb to lose to get to my first goal. It's funny as I thought I was still huge at that weight, but looking back on photos I looked quite slim!!

Had a salad for lunch with lovely posh ham and cheese from the farm shop. I forgot how good it is to just have a simple salad.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/03/2014 16:12

Un petit verre? BIWI ? Vous having un rire!
